I was just about to comment on something above that was asking who else played the two videos side by side, there's a video on youtube that does it for you if you don't want to go through the trouble of syncing them. I get super Adam and Eve vibes, from the videos themselves especially. When played side by side, the videos are slightly different, even with just timing in some of the shared images, like the part with the dog barking, when the image appears varies between the two, but the bark is at the same time. Then of course when played side by side, the male and female switch at the end of the video. It gave me the sense that the videos were almost like representations of 'Man' and 'Woman' in the biblical sense of Adam and Eve, created together, different, but also to compliment one another and made to be a pair. Of course, that's where I stress that it's very Adam and Eve in the heteronormativity felt by the idea that men and women compliment one another, and therefore are meant to be together, not men and men or women and women (This is purely what I'm seeing from the videos from a critical stand point, literary criticism for media type thing, and NOT my personal view on the sociological aspect of sexuality.)
Reading the comment section, one notices 99% of people criticized youtube for censoring the girl version and not the boy version. That just shows how people who listen to alt-j are smart and open minded ;) I'm just happy you guys exist

You can reaserch the song further and find many more references to homosexuality if you don't trust a random RUclips comment. But overall, Alt-J don't just focus on heterosexual relashionships, as you are implying.

After watching both this and the girl's version, I have to say that although I absolutely adore this song to bits and pieces neither one fully captures just how carnal this song makes me feel. The videos are so slow and majestic, and that's wonderful, but listening to "I want every other freckle, I want every other freckle, I want every other freckle, I want every other freckle..." on that repeat makes me visualize beautiful chaos. It just doesn't capture the poetry of this song, about swallowing someone whole to the point that you can't tell where you end and they begin. But yeah, actually watch both versions side by side in separate windows (or screens) synced up. The interplay of imagery and the way some of the cuts are syncopated on purpose to the beat are incredible. At somewhere around 3:10, the bubblegum is one of the most sophisticated uses of editing I've ever seen.
The Boy version is very aggressive, whereas the Girl seems oddly frightened for the duration of the video. The message is beginning to seem a lot darker than I thought.
God, the more I listen to songs from this album, the deeper in love I fall with it. In the very beginning I was kind of disappointed at how different the new album felt and now I think I like it almost as much.
I loved the video so much, couldn't help but analyze. The opening sequence of natural world scenes (the unfurling seedlings, the fish-creature on the mud, the microorganism), are raw, primordial, and prepare us for Man's entrance. As the video makes clear, with its slow-motion accentuating the sensuality of both the world and man, he too is raw, beastly, fleshly, part of Nature. We see elephant skin blend into a man's shoulder blades. We watch a man draped in animal skins, perhaps the very embodiment of ferocity, about to viciously attack (us); and lest we forget that man has always been man, we are shown a modern-day dude toting an axe, the mirror image of the aggressive afore-mentioned warrior. This video smacks us in the face with the fact that man is part of nature; he is beastly, naked, desirous. Particularly when it comes to love - passion is brutal, look at the rawness, the violence of a kiss. And the lyrics, "I want to… turn you out and lick you like a crisp packet." And YET, this video is its own greatest irony, and probably consciously so. Man is beastly, but more, more than just that. The beauty of the music, and of its lyrics, and of the video itself tell us this. Man is self-aware. Unlike animals, we can see how we are similar to them. Which in itself tells us that we must be always, essentially, different. Look at the intelligence in the man's face. Look at the video's obvious sensitivity to the beauty of the world, the human face, the human body. Nothing else in our world is conscious of such beauty. Look at the song itself: "I want every OTHER freckle." Though love is desirous and beastly, in one sense, human love is yet more. I want one freckle; I leave you to possess your own freckle. One music video is "Boy" and the other is "Girl"; I want you, but respect you. You are not merely useful for the sake of pleasure and reproduction, but you are someone to be respected, and you are beautiful. Hence those lingering and tender scenes of the other half of the pair at the end of each video.
