Harbor Freight 72 Inch Tool Box | US GENERAL | Best Affordable Mechanics Tool Box

Today we review the Harbor Freight 72 Inch Tool Box made by US General.
In this video I discuss what I love about it so far, and what I do NOT like about it after a few months of daily use. Stick around, this is an honest non payed review of this box.
In the end, I still consider it a must have for any DIY homeowner or auto mechanic.
This video is made with the Do-It-Yourselfer in mind, the guy/girl who wants to work on their vehicles at home. I am a California licensed and certified automotive technician, and these are some of the methods I use to install a timing chain and water pump at home.

Some guys will add flat washers between caster and box on front of box giving a slight tip back so drawers are less likely to come out on their own.

You should rivet those slides into the frame. They wont squeak and less wobble. I did mine before i loaded up the box.

Good review. I bought the same box about 7 or 8 months ago. With a locker and end cabinet. It is very heavy, packed full. Honestly for the amount of weight I have in it, I probably should have bought an epiq or something. But the USG takes it like a champ...only thing I've noticed, the paint will chip fairly quickly if you use it everyday and are hard on it, and the chrome trim and handle trim is very easy to nick. But some positives...those casters are heavy duty, the big drawers have double slides, and it's cheap compared to a snap on.

The only thing with the latch is on the wide draws it sometimes sticks when you only pull from the one side of the draw so it forces you to use two hands like your top draw you actually prove my point lol 😂 great video

Mechanic once told me get the biggest box you afford. Going from a 41” Craftsman ball bearing grip latch to a 72” USG bottom box. Will grab a matching 56” top for it soon as well.

I'm no fan boy of the HF drawers latches system, I prefer the soft closing with safety latch of the Husky HOTC5618BD1S and Homak RSpro series. I just hope HF come up with deeper drawers (24"+) and a new soft closing drewer system for his futur "Series 3" because his ICON Line is to expensive for "weekendner wrencher". As far I'm concern the Husky H61MWC15HTCLCK is a perfect match for my need but it's out of stock and not sale on my side of the fence (Canada).

Nice review, I was considering that box for my garage, that glove holder is a joke though 🤣 I had to tweak mine, don’t understand why HF didn’t make them for the standard glove boxes
