I'd suggest picking up the Ernst Wrench Pro wrench organizers. Inexpensive and incredible for keeping wrenches organized and saving considerable space at the same time.
Wow thank you for that. I hate all wrench organizers I can’t seem to get the wrench out without using two hands. That Ernst looks legit. You just made them money when I tell 20 people about it.
I picked up the wrench and plier organizers. My now has 2 empty drawers AND 2 half full ones. They are WORTH IT. Also they have said they are working on a screwdriver version. Will buy that when it comes out because the tool box widget I bought for that drawer SUCKS.
My job has provided me with a Series 2 & recently upgraded to the Series 3. The sliding lock is hard to operate one-handed when compared to the Series 2. One of the drawers snags on the corner, requiring 2 hands to open. I had similar issues like you pointed out with the bottom right drawer, but went away after break-in. I am seriously thinking about buying the Husky for my home. Thank you so much for this video.
I took the slide locks off my box because they became too frustrating to use, the old style harbor freight boxes with the latch on the corner were so much nicer.
A lot of dudes are short, so they can't see into the top of a top box or most of the drawers. That's why they get the hutch. Also, for people that need a monitor/laptop/PC, the hutch offers some protection from dust and makes it easy to leave in place and secure. Also, many chargers are big and funky, the hutch can be a good place to store and lock up power tools. I'm the same as you though, flat surface, stuff accumulates. They make those computer style power cords with a 90 degree plug on it for those of you that want to push your box back closer to a wall and not kink the cable. Also, be sure you swap it out for one of similar gauge, they make those with different ratings. Look into getting the Ernst or Teckton modular wrench organizers, you can fit way more in a drawer with them because you can reduce the blank space. The powder coating will stand up well on the US General, it will just show scratches easier, but it is also easier to wipe down and keep clean. They sell magnetic backed power strips in matching colors that will work perfectly in that top box.
the hutch is a WORKSPACE in professional environments (dealerships, shops, etc)...where else would they work on calipers, parts, etc..on the ground?!?!
Love the video, real nice comparison. Couple of tips for ya. I have the Series 2 box, and if you take the rubber mat off you actually bolt the top box to the top of the bottom box. Much better than the husky brackets. They have a wax or something on the top so it won't scratch and actually slides really easily when lining up the bolts. I highly recommend renting a low uhaul trailer when picking it up. If you're unloading it by yourself, put the top box in the bed of the pickup and the bottom box in the trailer. then you can roll the bottom box off, uncrate the top in the bed, remove the drawers and tilt it onto the bottom box. Easy to do with one person. I don't like the new drawer catches. I just take them out, they pull out from the side pretty easily. I peeled the large US General sticker off the top box. Was pretty easy. The drawers do loosen up over time. They are full length extension, but you need to pull them all the way out a couple times until they break in.
My wife would tell you to throw away that shirt because it has a hole in it. However, I'm SOOO proud to see you rockin' it! Great review and thanks for your service.
I was going to get that US general set up but then a black friday deal came around on the 19g version of the Husky that I ended up getting for around 700 and got free shipping so I couldnt pass it up. It definitely isnt as sturdy of a box but it is good enough for me and for half the price of the general I am happy about it.
Very helpful video. I'm actually seriously considering upgrading to one of these, from my older, smaller, and very antique-feeling Craftsman rolling chest and top chest. After watching your review, I think the Husky is the better of the two for me
Not a husky fan? As in you don’t like a single Husky branded product out of all their branded work benches, roll carts, cabs hutches, top tool box’s, Jacks or Jack stands like at all? Is that like a sour warranty experience or something or what? I’m only curious as to what that based on cuz their catalog has and continues to be pretty expansive so it being more of a style thing doesn’t really make much sense & I couldn’t care less in all honesty however over the years I just haven’t seen or heard of many ppl disliking the brand so much they indiscriminately say they’re not a fan of husky. Have you tried their new “ Bite” anti slip traditional and ratcheting combi wrenches or Allen’s? Seem to work well ime and at a great price of 55 for the ratcheting set.
The hutch is basically what a mechanic uses as a desk that can hold a computer, office supplies like pens and stuff, place to set stuff down and close and lock at lunch or when going home for the day
Amazing review. Thank you for posting this. My 2 cents: As for the Husky box, I feel the drawers are superior to the USG. The Husky’s skinny ones are still 3 inches deep, compared to the 2” depth (I think)of the USG. I get the the soft close drawers don’t close the drawer 100% of the time, but what it does do 100% of the time, is prevent a harsh shock, which will cause the tools to slide towards the back, and that gets old, quickly. I’ll take the Husky system over the US Generals system any day. I like the idea of the extra wide wrench drawer, but I simply used the top two left skinny drawers, under the socket drawer, as my wrench drawers. One for Meteric, one for SAE. Works great for me. I’m 5’11” and the Husky’s tall enough that the top of the box’s hutch comes up to my chin. I wouldn’t want it any taller. You must be a tall guy. I’m guessing 6’1” to 6’3. The US Generals’s height might want to be something someone considers if they are not a tall person. As for the price difference, Homedepot regularly marks these boxes down MASSIVELY during specific sales. I seen them go for less than $800 new. I do have to say, I prefer the US Generals caster system: the bigger wheels do make a difference, as they are more forgiving of going over small rocks or anything not a perfectly clean and flat floor. The Husky has stationary wheels in the middle, and they are a pain when trying to maneuver the box into any kind of tight position.
Picked up the bottom 56” and I’m going from a 41” kobalt I outgrew. I literally put all my power tools and my nail gun in the bottom drawer. When in the kobalt I had them in 3 drawers. Good solid review also
I had a Husky, i dumped it to get a US Gen ... way better built ! Top hutch is typically for a laptop , scanner and temporarily placing items such as wallet, keys, phone, drinks ... And the guys at Harbor Freight loaded mine up with a special lift cart that made it easy as they weigh close to 300 lbs.. All in alll , love my Series 2 box . 😎
@ Wrong General is like Hyper Tough. The soft close drawers and the Badges are superior to The US General. Not to mention the Casters or Paint Scheme Hammered edition.
Nice review. I just bought the 42". Managed to get the top out of my truck and onto the bottom cabinet by myself after taking all of the drawers out. Probably reduced the weight by 40-50lbs. It was really sketchy but i managed to not hurt myself or damage either cabinet.
I have a 56" us general that is supposed to arrive the middle of January. I think I may just remove the drawer release mechanism but not sure yet. I also don't see much sense in the top hutch.
Have you ever considered using Filing cabinets for the large items. Face book Market place has them. 4 drawer for as low $ 25. Some sell for $50. I assume they will hold circular saws, saws all. They come in different shelf numbers.
A hutch is useful in a professional environment for a work area , paperwork, for a monitor and your daily items like a lite. And chargers .And most want the ability to lock it at night.
yep, but the number of people buying toolboxes for home use is much higher than mechanics using them in a shop setting. I was just speaking to my fellow home guys
@beardedreviews that's because guys see what is being used in a professional environment and want to copy that, not nessasarly knowing why. That said I have a hutch at work and love it . I have 2 boxes at home and would prefer if 1 also had a hutch.
1. I wish the lids went fully vertical. I have not been able to find alternate longer struts to allow this. The 5-drawer mechanics cart does though. 2. The drawer openers can be easily released and slid out of the ends. 3. If you remove the drawer, at the back of the sliders there is a receiver whose arms can be adjusted slightly by bending, that will allow the drawer to open a easier, but it doesn’t take much to change the feel.
Im debating why the 72” is double the price? Wouldn’t it be wiser to just buy two 56”s? Any difference in the construction/reinforcement/metal thickness? Looks like only the casters 🤔
I gotta say I use to agree with you on the top hutch. Now after looking into it and all the accessories I can put on the back board and it can double as a work bench . That sold me and my next box will be getting the hutch.
@@beardedreviews Well let me elaborate. The hutch only works on a tool box that is 30 inches deep. You could fit all the tools from a top and bottom 20 inch deep into just a bottom 30. For your US General then yes the top box is a must.
hutches are VALUABLE for Professional Technicians in dealerships, shops, etc as work benches, to monitor your scantools, to fill out paperwork, to work on brakes and other parts...of course if a person doesnt DO those things they wont see the value in it. Walk into ANY dealership and you will see boxes with hutches everywhere..so it is NOT "to each his own". PROFESSIONALs use them...garage hackers dont need one
I have a seris 3 56 inch green and it’s slam pack with tools for heavy equipment and I have no issue with opening or closing the box even with one hands, although I would argue that it could be at least 2-3 inches deeper
I have the exact same Husky box. I had a us general at work and it was nice. The biggest thing is if you're ever going to move it around the Husky is a pain in the butt with the middle casters. The General is so much easier because its like a forklift. The Husky you have to move it a little at time.
On my husky, the middle casters never really touched the ground. Maybe we had different ones? If you watch my first review of the husky, you can see me pushing it around really easily
I really appreciate your review. I came upon your review trying to find one without the hutch. I also agree that’s a waste of space and money. It would be a giant catch for crap and be useless for my needs. The top box is a far greater value for storage and use of drawer space. It gives you about 1/3 more tool storage space from what u can see. My store did not even have on in stock to view just the hutch. I Just ordered one today with the top tool chest in the grey color. I got mine out the door with both top and bottom boxes 56” for $1,278.00 got 20% off both pieces. Mine is supposed to arrive January 16th 2024. Can’t wait to get mine! This is just for my home garage. Way over kill for my needs but should look great and be a huge organizational tool for my garage and tools. Can’t wait to clean up my work bench when this arrives.
I know late to the show but for that bottom drawer being hard to open check that slide lock peice on the side it locks on (should be on the right) but make sure it is slipped fully into its little slot. I have seen a bunch of them sometimes pop out just snap it back in or you can just slide it completely out and avoid it all together you can still use the key lock and if you don't plan on moving it around alot shouldn't be a problem.
Just a few inputs. Generally, the more casters, the weaker the box. They use the extra casters in the middle to help make up for weaker metal, so the US general probably is stronger. Also, 4 casters makes it far easier to back it against a wall vs 6 casters. Some home depots will help you load the husky into your truck, others won't, your mileage may vary. HF will always load the box into your truck unless they don't have a forklift tech on duty or the forklift is broke. you can get a us general 27 and 42 inch and bolt them together (they're designed to do this) and you now have a 69 inch cab for the same price, but you would lose the top hutch and the largest drawer wouldn't be as wide as the largest drawer on the 56 inch. Pros and cons to both setups. Good video. I like the straight to the point format.
@@beardedreviews The hutch works if you work in a shop. 2 of the 4 mechanics in my shop have hutches. I'm seriously considering purchasing this box with a hutch and a Side locker. For me it's the being able to store some higher things inside the hutch, but also being able to quickly secure everything by just closing up the top. When you are in a shop you tend to get really good at not throwing everything onto your box, or roll cab. I think my only issue with the bottom cabinet is the lack of a few smaller drawers for the catchall bullshit that we all accumulate. But with that being said. I can't bring myself to buy a snapon box at $4000 with 19% Financing. I've acquired a lot of snap on and Mac tools, but that box price got me like, whoa. Not going there. I'd rather have a $1500 box and use the other $2500 putting tools into it then spend $4K and have crap tools. But thank you for the review and comparison between a couple of entry level boxes. I found this very informative.
@@ftkinney yes I would like a hutch to keep a clean space that no dust gets into and feels like a part office. The Icon hutch works very nice, but because of certain dimensions being the door swings out more than the depth of the box sticks out too far and I could easily bump my head on it. So for the Us general the extra storage with the top box makes more sense. I just got a couple series 2 26" boxes and its amazing how many tools and organized a garage can get with those.
@@jacobe1942 that makes sense. The idea of having a clean area that closes versus a drawer is something I didn’t think about that probably does make sense for quite a few homeowners.
@@beardedreviews lots of DIY, and equipment maintenance , I’ll be storing our 12v tools in the bottom drawers. I’ve run into needing more space than what I have as issues spring up and new tools are needed!
First of all, my first car was a mustang and second, I like TikTok. That being said, you seem like a handsome, respectable young man and I trust your opinion. I’m going to subscribe
The casters came installed. They seem nice, I didn't see any grease fittings, but I guess I didn't check. Mine will just sit stationary and never really move
yes the us general comes with casters, and a ramp to easily slide off once the holds are removed. I am sure the US general is heavier. I think that is the only way the husky can incorporate more thrill features. This extra weight is in its strength and there is a reason husky decided it needed 6 casters instead of 4. I am hesitant to think they have grease fittings, looks like no from pictures.
The only thing I can think that would be beneficial about the enclosed hood top would be if you work in a shop and needed somewhere to lock big items away. Also the peg board, but that’s about it
Sometime if you get a chance I’d like an overall height measurement with the top lid open. All I’m finding on the HF website is the height measurement with the lid closed.
You need some toolbox widgets for your wrench organizing. I'm considering getting a gray series 3 for the exact reason you are ... the socket and wrench drawers. Will be replacing a husky also. It is nice but I'm pretty sure I can combine a 54" husky two tier and a smaller old school 3 tier craftsman both into the 56" two tier series 3
I have both US General (Harbor Freight) and Husky (Home Depot) tool chests. There are things I like about each of them and things I don't like about each of them. On the US General Series 3, I don't like the drawer latch system. My Series 2 cabinet didn't have the same type of latches. On my Series 3 cabinet, I removed the plastic latch to make the drawer operate the same way as my Series 2 cabinet. My Husky cabinet drawers don't have a complicated latch system and just work the way I want them to, more or less like on my US General Series 2 cabinet. My Husky cabinet also has soft-close drawers which I kind of like. I believe that feature will help to prevent things from shifting around in the drawers. Also, I'm not a particular fan of the "power drawer" on the US General. I prefer to charge my batteries on the top shelf of the upper unit, so the power drawer just seems gimmicky to me. The power drawer looks somewhat small, and I believe will only accommodate one or possibly two chargers and batteries. That isn't enough for several various battery systems I use. My Husky cabinet has a power strip on each side of that upper shelf, so it makes charging all my batteries there quite simple. There are also USB charging ports there, as well as a cabinet light. I can't say for sure, but I don't believe the US General has those features. My Husky cabinet has a feature that some will like and others will not. On the long bottom drawer of the upper cabinet, there is a wooden "desk" lid. The lid needs to be opened in order to reach anything in that drawer. While this lid is handy and provides a good surface for taking notes and things like that, I find it something of an annoyance when I want to get something from that drawer. The lid will only open when the drawer is fully opened, so it's not easy to just open the drawer slightly to grab something from the front of it. Because of this lid, I feel it makes that drawer somewhat unusable. I only use that drawer on my cabinet to hold instruction manuals for my various tools. Where I think the US General cabinet and upper chest really shine is in the drawer layout. There is a good selection of wide and narrow drawers as well as drawers of varying heights. I think that this allows for better organization of tools than what the Husky cabinet provides. I feel like I am better able to organize my tools in the US General cabinet than in the Husky cabinet. Another area where US General shines is in color selection and matching accessories. Harbor Freight has a wide selection of add-on units and accessories that match their tool cabinets. They also offer many of their cabinets in up to 8 colors, so you should certainly be able to find a color of your liking. Husky only offers four colors, and that's only on some of their cabinets. Finally, the US General cabinets can frequently be found with substantial discounts, either in the form of a percent off coupon, or in a "members-only" Inside Track promotion. You can also get an additional 10 percent off your purchase if you open a credit line with Harbor Freight. These things can result in a pretty fair savings off the retail price. The same types of discounts can sometimes be found at Home Depot, too so be sure to check on them before committing to a purchase of either brand. Overall, I think I'd give the slight edge to Harbor Freight's US General line as far as my preference is concerned, but I won't be replacing my Husky cabinet anytime soon. The Husky serves me well as my battery charging station, which the US General doesn't do as well. My US General cabinets serve me well for tool storage and are a little better organized in that regard than the Husky cabinet. To summarize, I would say look at both brands and pick whichever one suits you best. For me, my decision was largely financial. When I purchased my cabinets, I bought the one that met my needs most affordably. I now have cabinets in both brands because they have both come out ahead at one time or another.
How did u put the top of the us general on top of the bottom chest when u were home since u don’t have a fork lift at home? Thanks. I’m searching for a box now.
Very good review vid. My buddy has that same Husky set-up in black, and I have that same US General set-up in black as well. He's a tad jealous of mine..... Lol. One thing I like about the US General smooth finish is that it is way easier to wipe off greasy fingerprints and such. And of course the ease of applying stickers like you said.. And that full-length wrench drawer is awesome. Just a tip: Ditch those space-eating trays the wrenches come with, and forget those triangle holders as well. Grab a few pair of the OEM Tools rail wrench organizers. Part #22218. They changed my wrench organizing life! They are 23" long, but you can cut them down to any length you need. :)
If you look at the channel, I made a video about modifying it, and one of the things I did was those wrench organizers like you were talking about. They work awesome!!
Huskys are the lowest budget cheapest box a professional can have...it is like using the neon green Home Depot tools..not really for those who are good at what they do or know what they are doing. US General are PROFESSIONAL boxes....they arent SnapOn boxes but definitely arent husky!!
I wish I could get a half hutch to have for power tools. I understand that's dumb in most cases but I'm going to start potentially in airframe maintenance and we will roll all our stuff under wings. So there's disadvantages to anything other than a cabinet
Hello Bearded Reviews I just found your channel and subscribed. Rather than just two full length drawers. I would like to see three or more drawers at the full length. It depends on what tools you acquire. Besides sockets, ratchets, extensions and not to forget breaker bars. Then pliers take up a lot of room. But I have a suggestion for you. I think you will appreciate the Toolbox Widgets Organizers. I started with their wrenches and screwdrivers organizers. What a difference they make. They are very easy to use. They are pricey, but compared everything else. It's worth it. Again thank you 😊
I’m liking the drawer layout on the USG and the latches on the HSKY but am really curious if you notice any significant build quality differences? Is either built with thicker steel? Are the drawe glides stringer on either? Do you know if the load capacity is different per drawer or overall? Do the larger USG casters have a better load rating than the smaller HSKY ones? I’m really looking for build quality info as well to help round out my decision making. Great video overall! Any extra info on build quality would be greatly appreciated!
I'm not expert or mathmagician, but to me build quality feels almost the exact same. I think in the 1-2K price range, most tool boxes will be around the same quality and you're just picking brand loyalty or drawer layout or one of the few features one may have over the other
I absolutely despise the handles on us. General boxes. That is the reason I bought 3 72” Roll Cab boxes, they have the lift handle like the husky’s. I did get 1 hutch, I use it as a work bench for small stuff. But it does tend to collect junk. I have had my boxes for about 5 years, and if a drawer slide does go bat I will replace them with soft close ones. Because your tools tend to migrate to the back when repeatedly slammed (as you do when really working on something) no matter what type of liner you use. I’ll check out your channel. Like how you did the video, not groveling for likes is refreshing.
I just got a 72" series 3 base cab and the drawers suck a little bit to open and close. Its loosening up, and im used to my crappy old Kobalt box but its noticeable.
I would look into Alien Space Saver wrench organizers. I was going to jump on the toolbox widget wagon but chose those instead. Townline auto has a bunch of videos on them as well.
I have 3 of the 34" Carts and a 56" Series 3...1st thing i did on all of them was pulled the drawer latches out...(to the right), and put them all into a plastic garbage bag and stuck them in the garage attic...
I will probably do the same thing that I did with my 72 gen 2 and eliminate the latch, and then put the magnet blocks from strips behind each drawer. 3 years and no problems. My top box is supposed to be here in the middle of January
Men I was in between buying the tool chest or buying a 42 bottom to attach it next to the 56 and decided on the chest. Hopefully is not that high for me, I’m only 5 feet 10 inches in hight 😂
just loop your chunkier charger cables down into the bottom drawer for the chunkier chargers. But then you'd be using another drawer for charging. The bad opening on the bottom drawer might be the lock thing not installed properly. i saw another video where you can easily slide the lock out. maybe take it out and put it back in. might solve your issue.
Hard to say which would last longer. I think construction is similar but it would just come down to the latching mechanism being better on husky and drawer layout being better on usgeneral for me
Are you a home mechanic or a dealership mechanic or a jobcorp ASE Certified mechanic Can you please provide your info are in Tampa Florida our you saling these tool box
Thank you for the great review, especially showing the underside of the box. I plan on getting the hutch. I do body and paint so I don’t need many thin drawers. I don’t need a drawer dedicated 02 sensor sockets or any of the many small tools you wrenches do. I do however need to hide repair orders from coworkers eyes, a place to hang my guns, and a small area for a tea kettle would be nice. My DA sanders just get kicked around and fall over so there’s that. They sell holders for everything I’ve mentioned and many drawers just don’t do it for me. I just discovered you can put a mini fridge in the side locker so I’m getting that as well. Homak boxes were made in the us until a decade ago I really regret not getting one of those and entertaining chyna.
With the hutches you can do paperwork and use a computer and put your scan tool up there when you work at a dealer or do paperwork then you need a kind of desk that’s why I want one
Professionals have a need for the hutch for their scantools. to do paperwork and to work on parts. Workspaces are gold in a shop..there is usually only one workbench...technicians dont leave their workspace and walk to the other side of the shop to use a table...EVERY top mechanic/tech Ive seen has a box with a hutch...I dont see why this guy has so much of an issue with it...not a big deal... every environment has different needs..obviously guys who use Huskys dont understand how valuable boxes really are...lol
I'd be more confident in the us general's quality. I've seen a guy that had a husky with both bottom drawers stuffed with heavy specialty tools with no problems but the one I had the heavier drawers either didn't lock or rubbed the ones below. Btw I've seen someone use that handle on the side locker and it looked like it was designed that way
Good tip about the loading, not a lot of people mention that. I've bought several boxes from harbor freight, always goes very smoothly. I've gotten two boxes at Home Depot and it was a shit show both times, guess because tool boxes just aren't as big of a thing there as Harbor Freight.
I did not purchase the top cabinet. I have very little space in my garage to work on things. The lower cabinet holds all my tools and a piece of plywood on the top gives me a place to work. Tool storage and a work surface in a single footprint works for me.
Really helpful review. I dig your no nonsense, straight to the point style. You’re good at this - maybe you should do more.
I might just have to do that!!

@kr2513 good deal. You won't be disappointed.
If you want one handed operation, husky unlocking mechanism hands down is better
I took the slide locks off my box because they became too frustrating to use, the old style harbor freight boxes with the latch on the corner were so much nicer.
The slide locks on the Series 3 can be easily removed.
@@MarkSergentMX5 Taking off the slide locks does that stop the drawers from locking with the key afterward?

Junk a tool truck box is way better
Very helpful video. I'm actually seriously considering upgrading to one of these, from my older, smaller, and very antique-feeling Craftsman rolling chest and top chest. After watching your review, I think the Husky is the better of the two for me
Yea each one has its ups and downs for sure! The husky soft close and opening mechanism is my favorite
Toolbox tour when ever you have time!!!!
I would never leave a lithium ion battery charging in a closed drawer, or leave them charging overnight...You never know what could happen...
I'm not a Husky fan, I grew with Craftsman-Sears and fir thus video I would definitely go with the US GENERAL SERIES 3 b4 the Husky. Good video bro.
The hutch is basically what a mechanic uses as a desk that can hold a computer, office supplies like pens and stuff, place to set stuff down and close and lock at lunch or when going home for the day
Please make another US General series 3 video! 👍🏼
You did a great job explaining the good and bad in each box... one of the best Videos.
I try to keep it honest and fair :)
Picked up the bottom 56” and I’m going from a 41” kobalt I outgrew. I literally put all my power tools and my nail gun in the bottom drawer. When in the kobalt I had them in 3 drawers. Good solid review also
real review by a real consumer thanks for the video brother
Keepin it real!!!
Nice comparison but I was hoping for some inside drawer dimensions.
Love your scruff profile and how you ventured into RUclips
this is the second comment i got about scruff. is it a dating app?
Great review thanks, and yes I agree the with you concerning the hutch. I'm sure those hutches will be on clearance soon enough.
I just wanna thank you for your adidas style!!! Well done!!! Hat, Shirt, Pants, and Shoes. You are my people!!!
You should see the tattoo on my chest lol
I had a Husky, i dumped it to get a US Gen ... way better built !
Top hutch is typically for a laptop , scanner and temporarily placing items such as wallet, keys, phone, drinks ...
And the guys at Harbor Freight loaded mine up with a special lift cart that made it easy as they weigh close to 300 lbs..
All in alll , love my Series 2 box . 😎
Better built your on glue
@@clintonmclimore8370you’re* and it’s facts. Husky is more like Yukon. US general is better built than husky
@ Wrong General is like Hyper Tough. The soft close drawers and the Badges are superior to The US General. Not to mention the Casters or Paint Scheme Hammered edition.
@@clintonmclimore8370 need to do some more research bud. You sound like you got a husky box and wanna make yourself feel better lol
Nice review. I just bought the 42". Managed to get the top out of my truck and onto the bottom cabinet by myself after taking all of the drawers out. Probably reduced the weight by 40-50lbs. It was really sketchy but i managed to not hurt myself or damage either cabinet.
stronger and smarter man than me!!! :)
Would definitely suggest tool box widget for your wrenches!
I gotta say I use to agree with you on the top hutch. Now after looking into it and all the accessories I can put on the back board and it can double as a work bench . That sold me and my next box will be getting the hutch.
hey, to each their own
@@beardedreviews Well let me elaborate.
Thank you for a great video. I am trying to decide between these two toolboxes and your video was really helpful for making a decision.
So glad I could be helpful! Thanks for the comment!
I had to double check your post, to see if my name was at the top. My experience is the exact same.😂
I know late to the show but for that bottom drawer being hard to open check that slide lock peice on the side it locks on (should be on the right) but make sure it is slipped fully into its little slot.
Nice! You got great info man!!
the hutch is a work bench or for your pc when your a mancanic and need to do pc stuff
nice to see a review of the top chest, your right everyone is so hype for the hutch. I got top chest for my 56 inch went full black.
yea hutch seemed useless to me. Couldn't believe I couldn't find any videos of the top chest
I think for a homeowners that hutch makes them feel and look like they have a professional mechanic set up and that’s why they buy it
@@ftkinney yes I would like a hutch to keep a clean space that no dust gets into and feels like a part office.
I’m buying a series three top chest next week. In white. I own a restaurant and the functionality of the toolbox is incredible.
What kind of stuff do you guys use toolboxes for in the restaurant industry? I had no idea people used them for that
@@beardedreviews lots of DIY, and equipment maintenance , I’ll be storing our 12v tools in the bottom drawers. I’ve run into needing more space than what I have as issues spring up and new tools are needed!
@@turtelz217 oh ok that makes sense! I thought it was something you put spices and pans in or something
Any idea what gauge steel the USG is?
Thank you very much. Great video - great review. I prefer the Husky bottom cabinet over the US General.

Very good review and comparison. Your tool-use knowledge shows in your explanations.
First of all, my first car was a mustang and second, I like TikTok. That being said, you seem like a handsome, respectable young man and I trust your opinion. I’m going to subscribe
I almost blocked you for the mustang/tiktok comment. But you seem like a nice, sweet, classy young lady and I will also subscribe to you
10 months later, how do you like the US General?
Did the US General come with casters installed?
Which toolbox is heavier?
Are the casters the same quality? Do they have grease fittings?
The casters came installed. They seem nice, I didn't see any grease fittings, but I guess I didn't check. Mine will just sit stationary and never really move
yes the us general comes with casters, and a ramp to easily slide off once the holds are removed. I am sure the US general is heavier. I think that is the only way the husky can incorporate more thrill features. This extra weight is in its strength and there is a reason husky decided it needed 6 casters instead of 4. I am hesitant to think they have grease fittings, looks like no from pictures.
I have the same box. And my big bottom drawer I got the power gun insert. And it has always opened easy
When the top hutch is closed on the us general, can you still open the drawers? I will be only using the top box on a bench. Thanks in advanced!
yea as long as you dont lock it
I highly recommend the wrench organizers.
Can you disable the opening lock on the USG? Never had a lock on a tool box drawer, don't need one.
Never mind, just found your other video, thx!
@@balancecatamarandefects Lol yea I was gonna say, go check out the newest video
Thank you... new Sub even tho you didn't ask us haha. Great info. Loved the comparison and helping me make my decision.
My wife and I have the same love-hate relationship with horizontal surfaces. 25 yrs so far...
I think you can take out the safety mechanism on the drawers on your US General tool box and top chest.
Yessir 🤔 every one needs a honker drawer 👌💯🇺🇲
big honker of a drawer can fit so dang much in it
I have both US General (Harbor Freight) and Husky (Home Depot) tool chests.
Now that you have had the US general for a year how do you feel about it?
Honestly love it. I took the latch system out of the drawers and it makes it so easy to use
That's great thanks for the feedback. This 56'er is on sale for one day only today. Going to get mine on order at $599.
Just ordered the us general 56in and top chest 😊
How deep is the charging drawer? I can't find that measurement anywhere.
6 1/4 deep. 10 3/4 wide. 19 1/2 long
How did u put the top of the us general on top of the bottom chest when u were home since u don’t have a fork lift at home? Thanks. I’m searching for a box now.
the fork lift shot was while I was at my house
@@beardedreviews Very cool.
Sorry, I just saw the one vid.

@@paulmysliborski4832 Hey thanks for checking out the video though!
Huskys are the lowest budget cheapest box a professional can have...it is like using the neon green Home Depot tools..not really for those who are good at what they do or know what they are doing. US General are PROFESSIONAL boxes....they arent SnapOn boxes but definitely arent husky!!
How did you unload it once you brought it home?
My friend and I just used his skid loader
I wish I could get a half hutch to have for power tools. I understand that's dumb in most cases but I'm going to start potentially in airframe maintenance and we will roll all our stuff under wings. So there's disadvantages to anything other than a cabinet
end locker or side cabinet would fix that for you right?
@beardedreviews 100% there's a ton of solutions...it's that childish I always thought it looked cool factor
Great video man. I don't usually watch these type of videos in their entirety but i this one i did. Thanks for psoting it.
Hello Bearded Reviews
I just found your channel and subscribed.
Again thank you 😊
I literally was just looking at those. I ended up getting the ernst/tekton ones though. They were alot cheaper and I wanted to try them out
Anyone know if hercules charger and 5amp battery will fit in the us general charging drawer while closed?
Great video! Seems like good quality!
pretty dang cool!!! :)
I think in the 1-2K price range, most tool boxes will be around the same quality and you're just picking brand loyalty or drawer layout or one of the few features one may have over the other
I would have liked more useful information about quality and materials such as what gauge sheet metal, welds and construction.
Well if you would have held the flashlight like I told you, I would have been able to see the welds
I had no idea the series 3 roll cabs had the lift handle!! I might have to look at those, and yea every flat surface I own turns into storage lol
I just got a 72" series 3 base cab and the drawers suck a little bit to open and close. Its loosening up, and im used to my crappy old Kobalt box but its noticeable.
yea mine move a lot more free now. It was kinda rough for the first week lol
I would look into Alien Space Saver wrench organizers. I was going to jump on the toolbox widget wagon but chose those instead. Townline auto has a bunch of videos on them as well.
I was looking at those and the ernst/tekton ones as well
The hutch would be good for somebody needing a computer to run diagnostics, schematics or have a printer etc
And I think there is locks for the drawers and they are adjustable my matco is like that
very true!
Men I was in between buying the tool chest or buying a 42 bottom to attach it next to the 56 and decided on the chest. Hopefully is not that high for me, I’m only 5 feet 10 inches in hight 😂
Just a thought. But comparing weight, gauge steel, number of slides for larger drawers would be helpful.
you can look those specs up yourself on the harbor freight product
Let's see the update video my guy !
One other advantage of the US General is modularity and expandability in how you configure it. Color selection is nice too but not a critical factor.
the colors are pretty dang cool!
It's nice that they forklifted them onto the truck, but I was wondering how you got them off the truck?? 😮
well we used a forklift, but you could also just get like 4 dudes
I'm going to subscribe, and I expect to see nothing but mustangs and tool boxes
I sure hope I don't let you down :)
just loop your chunkier charger cables down into the bottom drawer for the chunkier chargers. But then you'd be using another drawer for charging. The bad opening on the bottom drawer might be the lock thing not installed properly. i saw another video where you can easily slide the lock out. maybe take it out and put it back in. might solve your issue.
I have been looking at both of these exact ones. Hard to decide between the two. Which feels like it's going to last longer? Also, excellent review!
Hard to say which would last longer. I think construction is similar but it would just come down to the latching mechanism being better on husky and drawer layout being better on usgeneral for me
Who’s box has better drawer slides
They both feel the same to me as far as rigidity, they both shake back and forth if you open the drawer, but almost any toolbox will do that
Despite that Milwaukee comment, i will give a like lol in all seriousness, great comparison. Good points made
We can all make jokes :) Glad it was helpful for you
Are you a home mechanic or a dealership mechanic or a jobcorp ASE Certified mechanic Can you please provide your info are in Tampa Florida our you saling these tool box
I just work on my cars at my house
I could never :)
The hutch is nice if you work in a shop and have a laptop or whatever that you keep.
I'd be more confident in the us general's quality. I've seen a guy that had a husky with both bottom drawers stuffed with heavy specialty tools with no problems but the one I had the heavier drawers either didn't lock or rubbed the ones below.
Btw I've seen someone use that handle on the side locker and it looked like it was designed that way
Which is cheaper?
The US General 56" roller cabinet will be on sale for $600 tomorrow, Dec. 23, 2024 . Part of the 12 Days of Xmas.

Good tip about the loading, not a lot of people mention that. I've bought several boxes from harbor freight, always goes very smoothly.
I've gotten two boxes at Home Depot and it was a shit show both times, guess because tool boxes just aren't as big of a thing there as Harbor Freight.
Sameee bro, even with truck boxes. Harbor freight has hands down better delivery/loading
I see you posted this two months ago. What's your current option? Any issues?
Loving it so far. Have been thinking about removing the latches
I did not purchase the top cabinet.
I have very little space in my garage to work on things.
The lower cabinet holds all my tools and a piece of plywood on the top gives me a place to work.
Tool storage and a work surface in a single footprint works for me.
yea that's definitely a good option as well
