Great review! I'm an engineer with a background in science, physics and a number of other disciplines in history, technical writing and electronics. So I may have a deeper appreciation than others.
I did know the US General was a better quality purchase, but didn't realize how poorly made Husky tool boxes are by comparison. Husky isn't a brand name, its I believe part if a conglomeration of Stanley (not American) products made by different manufacturers. Husky hand tools were formerly manufactured exclusively in the United States starting in the 20's but are now largely made in China. US General is misleading although its quality is purportedly controlled by a higher standards from the US is also manufactured in mainland China.
Historically speaking, America had the best manufacturing in the world but the trade agreements signed in 90's allowed China to purchase manufacturing and they did which would later be shipped to Asia decimating our manufacturing independence and 100 years of proven American quality. The hit to manufacturing jobs is still being felt throughout America's manufacturing industries and may never recover. America used to have some amazing engineering and it's sad we let that legacy go along with the jobs and knowledge we had.
I pick Husky but I was wrong ! After watching the video I would go with USG. But as a retired mechanic I don't need a box for daily use. USG has a way better warranty which tells me they stand behind their product.
Can you compare snap-on vs Cornwell tool boxes please
Please compare snapon vs usgeneral I know usgeneral will beat it
Stop buying Chinese made junk , stop importing their JUNK !!
The only thing husky in my garage is me.
🤣🤣🤣
I got a good deal on some Husky shorty combination wrenches several years back. I think I used one once.

The PC term is "sturdy"!
I just shot my Dr. Pepper out my nose, funny shit right there
Dude, harbor freight absolutely crushed it with that toolbox. That thing is a tank.
I have that box and LOVE it
Us general toolboxes in general are dam good for the price. Harbor freight has shitty tools. But some are pretty great and top 10. Like their 20 dollar breaker bar
I have a 26 inch. Great box.
The ratchets are pretty tough too, and lifetime replacement. I have snap on, crapsman and shittsburg ratchets and the pittsburgh ratchets are usually the ones I grab first.
Yes beside they need latches an soft close draws an it would be premium
That is possibly the most comprehensive comparison of two items that I have ever seen. Excellent job. Thank you for your hard work in doing this video.
Mr* Torque test* (typos, can't edit)
You went thru unbelievable great lengths to compare very fine details of these 2 boxes, thank you so much for such a thorough review and tear down of these boxes!
Dude this review is so thorough. You drilled through a new toolbox to see how a caster was attached. You have my respect and now my subscription sir!
They didn't know it was drilled through when he returned it. Even HF's smaller 44" box has a full 2" x 1/4" angle iron frame under it.
Ditto. I have an official rival now for my OCD challenge. The rust and leftover manufacture just inside was the nail in the coffin.
Legit! Same for me! 😂😂

@@nashehanes1044 I have to agree with your observations, Nashe. I worked the Quality/Materials Engineering Department in my last manufacturing job and that sort of "OCD" was part of the job description. Those pop rivet scraps and sketchy paint work would drop these Home Depot boxes off my list if they were the only gigs. The design comparisons were just the nails in that coffin.
I wasn’t even looking to buy a new tool box but you sold me on the US general. Good vid man!!!
I especially love that each drawer locks independently when you close it on the US General. I hated other brands boxes that you would have to lock the whole cabinet to keep the drawers from sliding open on their own when sitting on uneven surfaces. This setup is just way more convenient and solid
Thank you for the time and effort you put into these videos. They honestly do help me a lot.
I work at harbor freight in riverside California and I’m glad you are pointing towards the us general because it might make stock room space open up a bit.

Harbor Freight linked to this review in their newsletter today
It looks like they definitely pay attention to what people are saying about their tools and products.
Thank you for your detailed reviews. Your efforts show that you care about truthful information and showing the extents of what these products are capable of. Whenever I consider buying a new tool I look to this channel to see what I would be purchasing. Thank you for always upholding your standards in reviewing these different brands.
I also noticed they used the video! I had actually watched this review video a while ago, but I noticed in today's newsletter they linked the video. Pretty neat!
That's a real good thing. Paying attention to customers. They'll be held more accountable. More likely to try to fix deficiencies in their products and offer something better to customers. It's free customer feedback and so many companies are tone deaf nowadays.

@SaltyStang That's exactly what they did by linking his review. Not only did he get all those views and likes but probably gained subscribers as well. That's how they make money on here.
4 years later, this video is STILL on HF's page for the 72" roller box.
As an engineer by trade, I can definitely appreciate the level of detail that you go into on your reviews. This is one of the main reasons that I subscribed months ago......I've made numerous shop and tool purchases based on the information I've found here, and have not been disappointed once.

One of the best reviews of any product I've ever seen. Well done sir!!!! Subscribed!
In our shop my dad and grandfather bought Craftsman,Waterloo and Williams tool chests. I have bought Matco, MAC and Snap-on chests. Recently I purchased a US GENERAL chest for my son. I was so impressed by the US GENERAL that I went back and purchased a top chest for my pickup. We are farmers and drive very rough terrain. After close inspection the other day that box is still in new condition other than chips and scratches.
That was one professional review.
Lol. Literally just watched the whole video, don't even need a tool box, but it was interesting and very detailed.
I was a mechanic from 1962, till 2017. I used about every brand name tool box in existence during that time. Kennedy was the overall best bang for the buck until US General came along. I was shocked at how this cheap US General box performed compared to the other. You can teach an old dog new tricks. LOL
WOW the comparison was like night and day. Well done buddy.
Yeah so did ya rate the Husky better?
Dittos on the Wow.
The Husky box was made by union workers.
Do they have Union Thugs in China?...lol
@@modkartracer3358 Oh hell yeah... they still have a red china commie culture built into them, too. It's even worse than the States or Canada. Steve Rob loves unions, though. He has been one of the few who benefit from them at the expense of every other citizen.
Props for drilling into the cabinet to inspect how the casters were attached.
NO DOUBT!
Great analysis pointing out the significant differences and also give details. Super video.
This guy needs his own tv show so professional it’s insane you hands down make the best review videos
Yes, your right about that. He sounds like Lionel Hutz 😂
Then his opinion would quickly become bought by the corporations...
Without a doubt this is the most comprehensive, in depth, detailed review I have ever seen on a tool box. This was quite a bit of planning and work and the end result is spectacular. Thanks for a great video!
I saw the Husky at Home Depot and was impressed and felt it was a good value.
I does have some attractive features however the US General is a step above and built to last I feel.
Thank you for the in depth review.....well done !
That's one of the best reviews I've seen. No B.S., to the point and in-depth, without boring me.
Easily the best tool reviewer on RUclips! You’re really taking the “cheap” stigma away from HF tools. It seems like they really started improving the quality of their tools over the last 10 years. Like we all know, HF tools were thought of as throw away tools so it didn’t matter that they were cheap overseas junk. Now we’re seeing noticeable updates and upgrades which is exciting for guys who don’t have a fortune to spend and yet still want quality tools. Well done sir! Double thumbs up!!
they have a professional line while i dont see it at the top its clearly way better than a lot of junk out there. and cheaper might I boot.
The most complete review I've ever seen. You just put to shame Consumer's Review ! Heck, they should offer you the Editor's Review of the Year Award.
I have a US General 44" and have had it for about 15 years and guess that it is the better box.
YAY!! Ive really been happy with my Gen 1 44" box. Id like to see them make a deeper drawer version than the 22" with soft close drawers! That would be a for sure buy for me! Great review!
AlphaFox38, almost 15 years for me also. Never have had a problem. A former co-worker had a Husky box, and it didn't last 5 years before it began falling apart. I have the 44" top and bottom box with two side drawers cabinets. It has ample room for my needs.
Probably the most thorough review ever posted, great job!
Harbor Freight really stepped up their game. Great Review.
hazard fright has always been just as good as anything else. its the price to performance ratio that shines.
HF stepped up their game 10+ years ago.
But People still think they only sell "single use" tools.
I bought one of H.F. heavy duty tool karts that weighed 125 lbs and used it everyday for two moths, for the price and function I had not complaints and it was a few dollars over $200.00, I hope they raise the quality of other tools they carry as well.
@@mymusicaccount1456 depends what u do, for a profesional mechanic like myself they only last about a week, compared to snapon or matco that lasts forever. but eh for the money and maybe using it twice a month its worth it

Thanks for making the Yukon/USG vs Husky videos. I never would have thought HF had a better tool than HD and was going to buy 3 Husky cabinets so I REALLY appreciate your videos ... very detailed and thorough comparison!! Your audio sounds REALLY great on your videos ... what camera, mic, editing software do you use?
Thanks! I use a canon XA30, Yeti Blue, and Final Cut Pro on an iMac. 👍
I don't know why this video was recommended, I'm not a mechanic or anything, but it was still very interesting. I figured the Husky would beat the US General, boy I was wrong!
Son Goku I thought the same tbh, but like always do a little research before making your purchase
Honestly Husky tools are for the "I think I am a diy er" but barley do anything before the wife calls up and has it done for you.
Wow! What a great review. Thank you so much for being thorough. Most reviews are so half-hearted. Thank you sir.
Just the VERY BEST VIDEO ON THE BOXES 100 points It looks like Harbor Freight will become the new Sears.
I'm sorry please don't compare harbor freight with Sears harbor freight wipes Sears ass I haven't purchased anything from Sears in 40 years. And now Lowe's is selling Craftsman tools I still won't buy them. I've been a harbor freight tools fan for 10-15 years now I will go out of my way to shop at harbor freight tools.
Good comparison, you hit all the key points I was interested in.

I knew who would win having gone through this last year, but, your review was out standing.
This was very helpful to anyone thinking about getting a large toolbox. I do like what I saw here, and I will keep that in mind... Go ahead pass it on!!!
Recently, I examined the General top box at Harbor Freight. I found it a quality product. Thanks for this comprehensive review.
Another great video. Please keep them coming. I think you are the best “Real Tool Review” channel on you tube. I can’t thank you enough for the content you make / produce.
Well narrated video. Very informative. Enjoyable to watch as opposed to most utubers.
Very informative. I have a General smaller box that I keep in my motorcycle trailer, got to love them locking drawer latches. Husky falls way short for a brand name.
Thanks for your videos that's really helps me to understand conceptions between those two brand name toolsboxs.
This is why I subscribed to your channel, a complete and non biased review. Great video and thanks for sharing
OMG now that is one intense review. Great review and thanks for telling it like it is. I am an old man now (80), so I wont be buying a tool box any time soon. For years I worked as a mechanic and worked out of a Craftsman tool box with all craftsman tools. I worked next to a guy with a Snap On tool box, of which he paid a small fortune. He had every tool under the sun and was a very good mechanic. One day I came to work, and he had quit as a mechanic and was working in the parts department huh ? The Snap On truck guy loved this guy, as he always bought something off that truck. Now what really got me was a young guy working LOF and purchased a Snap On tool box just to change oil. His tool payments were more than he was making, and he soon quit and lost everything. Three tool trucks came by every month Snap On, Mac, and Matco. I worked there at that Oldsmobile dealership for about a year, then went into Law enforcement, where I retired after working 11 years, due to an accident. After retirement I began shopping at harbor freight and bought some very good tools. The price was right and HF sure has improved over the years. Yes HF has some made in China junk, but not everyone can afford made in USA. PS, Oldsmobile went out of production as we all know. I am a retired US Army officer w/ 20 years, Vietnam Vet with two purple hearts and retired Police, so I do well. After retirement I bought a huge tool box from COSTCO, can't guess where it was made, but has served me well. I enjoy watching your tool reviews, knowing I will see a fair honest review.
I understand this review is about HF vs US Husky. A guy should buy what he can afford and gets the job done. ..Ken
if that boxx is stainless it maybe a Knight Box I got one years ago and its an amazing box that has held up and still looks new.
Ron Paulk a big You Tube guy who has a great reputation and a true craftsman, carpenter, photographer, and many others I am sure also bought tool boxes from Cosco. He loved them. I would have never consider Cosco and didn't even know they sold them till Ron had them on his channel. Take care Kenneth.
Kenneth welcome home and thank you for your service. I hope the VA is good to you. And anyone who isn't should be fired it seems like Donald Trump is doing a lot of good things for our vets like they and you deserve if you don't get treated with excellence let the public know we must stand behind our heroes.
for those of you who don't already know this but most tool boxes are made in China including Snap On.
Thank you for your service and sacrifices to and for this country your a true American hero thank you sir I stand to salute you god bless you and your family
Great comparison! I’m not a purchaser of anything Husky and only certain limited use items from HF, but that US General box looks like a real contender. You may have made me a believer!
Wow you went deep with this review. Great job.
This might be the most detailed review video of any product I've ever seen. EXCELLENT. You could teach people how to do reviews.
Thanks!
Home Depot should be embarrassed to offer such junk
Anyone looking at HD for a toolbox doesn't know the first thing about quality. They just want a large volume. One thing this reviewer didn't examine is how smooth the drawers are when fully loaded. Also the depth os these boxes compared to Snap-On style true 24" deep boxes makes a huge difference to store larger power tools.
My broader point is that HD used to offer quality, and HF had the cheap tools. The US General box is twice the HD for the same money and that is a shame for HD. My 56" USG has been loaded to capacity for several years now with no problems. I am under no illusions that it is a Snap-On box, but then again it was 1/8th the price.
Home Depot is about profit margin...
No profit if consumers don't shop there. Ask Sears how that worked out
Lane Shurtleff he never goes into that detail especially on the bluepoint vs HF roll cart review…
I have this 72" US General Box and I LOVE it .
Review is spot on .
Your review pushed me toward the General. Ill get it in couple of weeks. That is a review. Thank you.
I know harbor freight is considered "cheap". But because of these reviews I would literally have no shame cruising up with the us general tool cart (the one always compared to blue point). These reviews are by far, some of the most useful things to watch when looking for any size box
I used to be so proud that I owned so many Snap on and Matco tools. I still have them, but I now rock a lot of Harbor Freight stuff with no shame.
I use a blue HF cart in a Diesel shop. No issues at all except I don’t have enough room lol. Upgrading to a matco 770 cart for roll around use but I’m waiting to see if the 56 or 72 will come in blue sometime soon. Only thing coming so far is a hutch for the 72 according to a manager at HF.
I just graduated from Automotive college and during my tenure I had purchased the 5 - drawer tool cart from HF and has been a great. What I love is that I can continue to customize it to my liking without the high cost... 👨🔧🔩
Merry Christmas Real Tool Reviews.... Your content is missed. Hope you have a wonderful new year!
Thank you my friend…. Merry Christmas 🎄
About a year a go I decided I needed another 42" roll around. After looking at the big box stores and Harbor frt. I bought the HF. It doesn't have some of the features you show but seems well made. The differences that I see now: no separate latches on drawers, simpler casters, I haven't measured metal gages but seems strong enough. The deal with the 2 slides on the side of the deeper drawers is that it allows them to be moved to a location that has two shallow drawers. But if you move the bottom deeper drawer up and put two shallow drawers in the place, the bottom shallow drawer will not catch the lock bar. Not a big deal for my use. HF now sells a premium line that is very nice but much more expensive.
I have 7 Husky tool boxes. You just ruined my morning...thanks. lol
Jeff Parker you should get 3 HF boxes. Lol
@@sideshow45 lmao, no doubt. Believe me, I have been contemplating making a switch. I just wish they made the 72" in black or blue also.
You could pay for the HF boxes for what you get out of selling all the Husky boxes.
@@detonator2x I'd only get between 1200 and 1500 for the 5 main boxes. I'd rather just give them to family and friends that could use them and just upgrade to the US General. I may just grab one 72" around tax return time. Then just put a couple of my Husky boxes in my basement.
Jeff Parker I,ve seen a lot of your videos and yes you do have a lot of Husky Tool Boxes and it sucks that you paid all that money for them and then see in this video just how bad they are made.
Well thought out as always. Glad you're still making videos
Nice review and I concur; I looked at both the HF and the Husky. The Husky is not as well built, and for me, the drawers would have sagged in the middle in some cases. I got 2 HF US General boxes in 56 wide (the chest and the cabinet) and kept them, but also got matching tool cart, but I sold that because it was ok, but didn't really do what I wanted. I ended up buying the Icon 36 in tool chest, which is a complete beast, way overkill for this home mechanic and will outlast my mechanical aspirations. Its as good as I could ever ask, lifetime warranty and so on. But, it is stronger in every dimension than even the US General boxes that I also own. Solid bit of work in this video.
I realize this is an older video, but have you considered doing an update video, to see how they have held up over the years?
Also, Husky has now introduced three tiers or levels of boxes, from normal/home, heavy duty and professional levels. I'd like to see a comparison
Thanks for the great review and now I know where my next tool box is coming from.
Using the word “thorough” here is an understatement. Lol
Well done 👍🏽
Just an FYI I watched your review about a year ago and I bought the US General box! For the money it is the better deal! I'm not a professional mechanic just a DIY'er and coming from a CSPS Costco SS tall box it was a great change up! I like having a wider box that is shorter. It makes it so much easier to find tools and you have a flat surface to work on providing you don't use it as a storage shelf! I looked at the Husky and after I found your review the choice was obvious. Thanks for doing all of the heavy lifting (Research) made my job a lot easier. A year in and no regrets!
I have been wanting to replace my 1970's Craftman tool boxes for years. I built a trolly frame on wheels to load 2 tall stacked Craftsman boxes together just so I could get my tools closer to the projects without having to walk all the way across my 60' wide shop just for one tool. Even added one of the Harbor Freight hang on side box on it and that HF side box, with it''s roller bearing drawers, outclasses those old non ball bearing Craftman boxes. So been thinking of just yard selling the Craftsman boxes off and putting some hard earned cash on the 72" HF Box with the big top box. Have it figured that almost all my tools will fit in that set up. Currently using 6 Craftsmans spread all over the shop now. Each with specific tools for that area. Well, almost.
Thanks for the review. Now to just find a Coupon to get an even better deal on them.
The best tool reviews on RUclips, I wish a US Tool manufacturer could offer a good tool box like this at a affordable price for the US worker. Snap On, Mac, and MATCO tool storage boxes are real nice, but cost the price of a used automobile. Who has that kind of money????
I bought a Husky tool chest a few years back that seemed pretty well built and it came with a nice looking faux wood top. I am impressed with the Harbor Freight comparison!! I saw those chests a lot but never really looked close at them.. Thanks for the side by side in depth comparison....

I'm surprised that US GENERAL smashed Husky in almost every comparison. Thank you for this excellent review! 👏 I clicked the like button.
I’m a traveling welder and have always had the standard “gang box “ style tool box , but I have been looking at changing over to one of these styles of box .They would be moved frequently from job to job and the ease of finding the tools that I need would be a lot quicker with a drawer type box. This video is exactly what I needed to help with the decision process. I appreciate the fact that you guys went into so much detail with your comparison. All my tools are investments and most aren’t cheap. Although there are a couple of things I liked more on the Husky, overall, I think that the General would be a better overall box for the abuse that it might encounter over time. Thanks for this wonderful comparison. Really great job.
This is one of the best RUclips channels period!!!
Hell yeah he's working man like the rest of us.
This review makes me laugh (in a good way) years ago I bought the HD 52" box. It buckled and collapsed one day from the tools that I had stored in it. The weight in the drawers were ok, but the bottom of the box had such thin gauge steel it couldn't handle the total weight and said it had enough. I never really looked into it back then because it was so cheap between it being a dented unit and getting military discount. I've since upgraded to a snap on box, but I'll tell ya, for the money, I'd take the HF over the snap on.
Yea I have this box and love it. My bosses snap on is very nice, but I can buy 10 of these for the same price.
HF has improved their manufacturing, and they listen to videos like this. Nice review
I initially thought that Husky would be better as far as quality, but not capacity. I was wrong. The US General was better than my Craftsman from Sears...had to replace it 2 times before I got one that was able to handle the tools and roll without losing a caster. Good review.
I'm not in the market for a tool box this big however I can definitely appreciate the quality of the US General box. Your review was very thorough. Thank you for taking the time and sharing with all of us.
Check out us general’s 5 drawer tool box. It is exact same build quality and materials just different dimensions. All of us general’s tool boxes use the same build materials and quality across all their boxes, all that’s different is the dimensions
YUGE difference in construction and materials used. Awesome review, thanks!
Up until now I have only bought snap on, I am seriously considering US General after watching your review well done.
Had a Husky top box for about 20 yrs. Used it for field work too. When I got a bigger top box I gave the Husky to my dad. He mounted it on his welding truck. It was on his truck for at least 10-15 yrs and it was still on the truck when he finally sold his truck and welder. Tough box. The drawers never did break down or crack.
Incredibly detailed review! Thanks so much!!

On the soft close, you better buy a few extra slides because they give out in a few years. (cabinetmaker for over 40 years)
I hate soft close slides. So annoying.
I was looking at the Husky box in Home Depot the other day and was considering making a purchase given its size to cost ratio. I received the HF catalog today and saw the US General boxes. I thought, let me take a look online to see how they stack up against each other. I am glad I saw this video because now the Husky is eliminated as a choice. I can't afford a Snap On or Matco as they are ridiculous in price and honestly, the US General is just as good looking and completely on par with quality materials and construction, so why spend the extra money for the name. Plus, I'm not a professional mechanic, so I can't justify having one of those. Thanks for the great run down, professionally done and super informative, no bias to either box, just plain and simple facts.
THIS is how you do a review! very thorough, well done.
Great review, in depth without being tedious.
My coworkers have HF and husky boxes they both seem to hold up well minus the husky wheels breaking.. I bought a HF cart to go with my Matco box and that cart was trash in so many ways so I sold it.. but the boxes are very nice..

That was an amazing amount of research. Wow.....Thanks.
Excellent excellent excellent review top-notch quality. I have not been into a Harbor Freight store in many years, I had no idea that they had this type of hardware. Sounds to me like they got their customer service thing locked down too. They just opened up a new store about 10 miles from me, I'm going to have to swing by and check out their stuff. I bought a HF a few years ago and love it, heavy duty.
I bought the 52" setup and added the side cabinet from the 48" to the bottom box to get to the 72" total. When I bought mine the 52" was on sale and so was the bolt on cabinet. Ended up with basically the same thing and saved a few hundo.
