I've got the 5 drawer version of this with a bottom storage area and it is fantastic. I got it for $100 while they normally cost $200! Both boxes got used and abused and both held up over the years, the only difference is it cost the poor guy a arm and a leg for the similar box. Mine is holding up alright, but I don’t use it every day, more like weekly so it has an easy life. Rolling everything to the work area is a game changer for sure
Bought one yesterday for $526 out the door. I will be using mine professionally though. Man it is heavy I do know that haha. I have all US General boxes and carts besides my Craftsman and they all do very well and hope up well professionally. When I seen it on sale for $499 and I could get it early with my membership I jumped on it. Had to go to two to find orange to match my box but it was worth it. I do wish it was assembled already though since it’s so heavy.
Good to know! Yeah unloading and assembling it solo was a bit of an adventure, as you can see in the video intro...would have been handy to have a buddy left a hand, but with some spare tires to protect it from hard bumps it was a doable solo job😅
Sure thing! I wanted to go into more detail about it, but the video would do terribly if there was 5 minutes on how I managed it so I tried to work it into the intro quickly for anyone wondering how doable it is to solo wrangle the thing. It was a channel he but not impossible 👍🏻
Yeah I just bought the same box in red, harbor freight has them for 599.00 now The emailed me a coupon for 25% off any item so I ended up picking it up for $450. I had one of their five drawer carts I bought a few years ago and it was in excellent condition. I was able to sell that for $180 so I was able to upgrade to this cart for about 300 bucks. I'm using it as a second toolbox to put place some items in that I didn't have room in for my main box that I had to store on shelves in the back room. So now I can have everything in my main garage area. I'm putting a power strip in the top and I'm going to use the top section for all my battery chargers and batteries since my tools are in my main box. But it's a decent box for the price. I don't think you can go wrong
Absolutely agree, congrats on the upgrade 👏🏻 I need to sort out a storage solution for my trailer and might look at picking something else up from HF for that. It’s got a “racer box” on the front of it that’s about 3x4 feet high with a door on each side and I want to make one door open up to some sort of tool storage cabinet or removable toolbox
They’re nice, huh? I’m still “organizing” mine, I picked it up a week ago. I had the 5 drawer cart and upgraded to this full bank one, I got green. 😎 When I first ordered mine it was on sale for $630, not bad… then Harbor Freight had ANOTHER sale that put it at $600! 😡 However, I took the receipt in with me the other day and they didn’t even bat an eye and “refunded” me the difference of $30… of course I gave it right back to them on more tools 😆
watching this as they are on sale for 499...and I am in need of finally buying a good tool storage solution. I am also going to buy the 428 piece quinn set on sale...it also has great reviews.
It’s actually a nice cart, was planing on buying a new snap on tool box for my job and take my older snap on classic home an share the same key, but between snap on, Matco an us general cart, it’s pretty comparable to the snap on cart, the us general has stronger corners, $600 compared to $2400, yeah it’s a no brainer
I was wanting to get the 5 drawer cart, but they raised the price on it. Of course this weekend it was on sale for $499. I jumped on it. I’m happy I did. I got the last one the local store had in stock and it was the color I wanted. Blue.
I got the black on black for 550 total price including taxes.. I put mine in a heavy duty diesel environment and it seems to be holding up well so far.. thinking of upgrading the slides for some heavier duty ones considering the weight of tools I want to put in this cart.. all the snap on guys at work are thoroughly impressed with the build quality of the box.. happy us general customer here!!
I had to unload mines by myself as well, and I was so nervous of dropping it when I had to lift it up after installing the casters but I didn't drop it, this tool cart is awesome.
I wish they would make it 40 inches. I bought my 40 inch matco Jamestown cart used for 1300. It's the perfect size. Not to large to roll around but not to small to need more space.
The extra room would be nice, I think tool carts are like trailers and to some degree you’ll always want more haha. If I had a bigger shop I’d probably have considered a longer bench style cart
What's good? About this box, the rails are more sturdier than other tool boxes. That's what I like. The smaller drawers have one rail. But the bigger ones have double. That's how all these boxes should be made
I purchased a Cornwell made similar to this 10 years ago for $1200 at the time with a stainless top, it was the best you could get at the time but times have changed. Myself i just started a new maintenance Mechanic position in a Food Plant and started out with a $259.00 5 Drawer roll a round box.
I’m sure the cornwell is still holding up well, but it’s hard to hate the cost-to-performance aspect of these boxes as higher quality material and construction trickles down. The folks who still want the brand loyalty and exclusivity have their options, and the folks who aren’t worried about that get a better end result, too 👍🏻
I paint cars for a living, been in the paint shop for 14 years. I don’t need many tools especially not quality ones, just my sander and paint guns. So naturally I got myself a nice Cornwell power cart in lime green.
1:32 Now is a great time to place a washer between the body of the box and the plate of the caster (just on the 2 front casters). This will make your drawers drift closed slightly
I have the 5 drawer cart and LOVE it. I've thought about getting one of these to match.... My issue has nothing to do with the box itself. It's awesome 👌. But for the price I kinda feel like you might as well spend another $200 and go with the full 56" box. Also it's a little disappointing that they don't have all the accessories for these that they do for thier smaller carts. In fact it's pretty much the same price as the 44 inch box wich is also an excellent box (I had one for years at work).
That’s good feedback, they do have some nice accessories for those other boxes. I hope they’ll develop some more specific for this size but we’ll see 🤔
Pre ordered mine today at $499 plus I applied for the credit card and regardless if approved or not, the 10% will apply. It was like $476 with taxes. I can wait for that price.
Kame Trick... Nice review of that cart.. Harbor Freight has that cart on sale right now for $599. I just confirmed the price on their website. I am thinking about getting one at that price. The thing about "tool truck" brands is they have a lifetime warranty and that covers everything, even the paint. And they are made in the USA.. The Harbor Freight cart only has a 90 day warranty and it's made in China. That's why there is a difference in price..
I get it, though I wonder that even without a lifetime warranty it may still last just fine for my lifetime and possibly my kid’s...I have plenty of tools and metal pieces that have outlasted my grandfather and dad, and they are still holding up just fine. No disrespect to the higher priced boxes, of course 👍🏻
@@mk5damian I'm not 100% sure if they do or not on their carts. I have heard one of the tool truck brands don't. They do on their toolboxes to the original purchaser. Same with all of the tool truck brand toolboxes.
@@RenegadesGarage 3 HF tool carts for the cost of 1 Matco. No brainer - buy the 3 HF. Stash two in the closet - if one breaks you have 2 backups. Which you'll never need because these things are built BOSS! So use all 3 and have confidence that they''ll just as long as Matco or Snap-on. I know - I have several of their chests, including this one and use them in an industrial setting (I own and operate an industrial metal/woodworking shop.
I would still take a Matco over these because of the thicker material and quality control Matco has over the production of their boxes but this box does have its place I’m glad to see harbor freight is offering more than just the 5 drawer cart
I can honestly say I'm not a fan of Harbor Freight tools as a whole, but I researched, looked in person and decided on U.S. General toolboxes for my garage over the other available options. They'll outlast me without having to spend Snap-on money.
I’m pretty much on the same wavelength as you, went through the same process, and came to the same conclusion 👍🏻 When you copy such a nice base product, even the budget version is pretty damn good.
I thought about getting a us general tool cart but what didn’t sell me was the plastic retainers that lock the drawers in place seem cheap. My snap on roll cart was the same and they always broke because of the amount of tools I had. I ended up buying a Mac maxsimizer tool cart instead
I could see the plastic retainers being a failure point, though you could always use the metal locking bar while moving the box, then unlock when you get to your work area 🤔 For my part, I’m not a mechanic by trade so I probably won’t move it so often or so far that I put any strain on the retainers
@@KameTrick I never moved the snap on cart, only slide the drawers in and out but I am a professional mechanic so I open them all the time but that box seems good for the diy person
nice video you showed the box off nicely!! but i do have one question..if you lock the box with the key but the drawer lock latch is in the unlock position, will they still be locked of does the key only lock the lid?
Interesting question. So I just checked it cause I’d never thought of that. If a drawer is “shut to” but not actually latched, locking the box (lever under the lid) does not prevent the “shut to” drawer from opening and closing. Something I thought was neat, though, is that you *can* fully shut the drawer left open and once you do, it will stay locked shut. Thanks for the good question!
I wonder if they are going to bring the sliding stainless steel top instead of this version that the top flips up. I’m stuck between this one and the 56”. Thanks for sharing! 😎👍🏻
I like it, except the value still isn't there at the price. The U.S. General 27 x 22 roll cab have 7 drawers, 10,900 cu. in. of storage space for $399.99. You get a little more storage space, one less drawer, and a lid for $200 extra dollars. Either the 27 is too cheap, or the 34 is too high. I dunno really.
I believe the bumper is listed as a part on the owners manual, there’s also a number to call. I suggest calling and asking: manuals.harborfreight.com/manuals/57000-57999/57517-193175450760.pdf
I've heard of dealerships making people agree to buy a snap on/mac/matco tool box within x amount of months of starting at their dealership as to upkeep their status
Dang, that’s kind of intense...maybe the idea is to make ppl get into big debt so they don’t have the ability to leave or something 🤔 Also thats an awesome username 👌🏻
It looks like a carbon copy of my Snappy box with a few improvements. Only two of the casters on my box swivel, the latching strips only span 3/4 of the width and my bottom drawer only has one set of slides. You paid less than I did for my box used. It would be interesting to see if there is a significant weight difference (thinner steel, less reinforcement, etc).
This is awesome feedback, thank you for sharing. I have some buddies in the mechanic industry but haven’t made it out to check out their boxes for a direct comparison. If you know the weight of your box I’m sure I could weigh mine, just to satisfy that curiosity as it’s a great question...but I bet that’s a tall order since we will both be packed down with tools haha
Yes they’re thin & not very well reinforced. The drawer latch things will break soon enough. Could have been a fantastic product like their 5 drawer ones are but they dropped the ball going for looks over materials.
I think it's funny that the snap on box and probably the matco box went up in price and this one dropped 100 dollars 🤣 this is priced at 599 now and the snap on box it 2,000
Oof, I would get the Matco and snap on stuff if I had more money than I knew what to do with, but until then it’s usually craftsman and kobalt type brands for me. While this basically a replica product, the good news is, if you copy a top class design you end up with a really good option for so much less 💯
They’re going worldwide now under different brands. Not made along the lines of the other US General boxes though. Feel cheap & flimsy in comparison to them. Shame really I don’t see anyone else making a low cost version of this style box? Up the quality or lower the price? Take The standard HF roll cab & put a flip top section on that. Now that would be a Strap On killer
I work at a dealer and will never under stand how someone could pay thousands for a box when you can get the same shit way cheaper. I beat the hell out of my husky box never a issue however I plan on picking one of these up soon.
That’s the wavelength I’ve always been on. I guess if I had more money than I knew what to do with I’d roll out the red carpet for my gear, but until then I’m “dollar to performance” first 💯
But think about it, who is going to cut through your box at your house or a work place. It's to keep out the common crook not someone who's going to come take the whole box. Metal means nothing. Think about a gun safe... Same deal!
Yeah but the Matco drawer sliders are much much nicer. And if your doing work professionally, it's nice having a drawer that just glides smoothly out. Now for home, and taking to the track o. Weekends, the HF is great. They both have there place to me. But once you've had and used the Matco, you'd understand the differences
@@ls_812 I have the snap on cart and the both feel the same to me while loaded down with tools. I oil the rails anyways but it really doesnt matter to me cause it's just a tool box but I get it.
it's a nice box don't get me wrong but he dropped something in the holes where the screwdrivers are you got to go fish to get it out quarter inch Drive my dinner's ready
Yeah, and that is a legit problem. Social pressure is real and no one wants to feel bad for having less than their coworkers or buddies. It seems hard for most people to step outside of that mental framework.
@@KameTrick I'm a machinist. I remember many years ago I got shit because everyone had a brown Kennedy box. I had a very nice box but it was a red craftsman. Wrong color. It actually bothered me too. I still have that old craftsman box and it's going to be here long after me. .
Sorry but the US General does not compare to the quality of the Snap On box, plus the Snap On box is made in America the US General is made in China. Support America and American workers. Back to the build quality of the box vs Snap On, the Snap On is head and shoulders better build quality.

I snagged this for 499 on sale and it is 100 percent worth it, i think it has amazing quality for the price
I was wanting to get the 5 drawer cart, but they raised the price on it. Of course this weekend it was on sale for $499. I jumped on it. I’m happy I did. I got the last one the local store had in stock and it was the color I wanted. Blue.
Very nice, congrats!
Nice! Same here, mine probably has an easier life for now but it’s still good as new 👌🏻
I had to unload mines by myself as well, and I was so nervous of dropping it when I had to lift it up after installing the casters but I didn't drop it, this tool cart is awesome.
Yeah solo handling these parts is kind of a pain, but once they’re set up they are great
The 34” US general tool box will be on sale for $499 this week. I think HF can do price adjustment for you.
That’s actually better than I paid for it-I got mine for $535 out the door 🤔 I might have to look into that 👋🏻
Great video! Very detailed n explains everything in easy step by step process. Thanks for your Awesome video!
Thanks for the feedback!🙏🏻
I just pre-ordered one...they were out of the blue at nearest store...on sale for $499 + another 10% off using their credit card for the 1st time...
Nice! I paid 535 after tax but 499+10% off is the best deal I’ve seen 👏🏻
I got mine for $535 out the door, you’re getting an excellent price. Worth the wait for sure 👌🏻
@@KameTrick Exactly and even if you ever did need something like a drawer slide surely they can't cost that much..
@@RenegadesGarage pretty sure Matco doesn't have a lifetime warranty on their boxes
If they could make an ICON on for $1000 it would be perfect 👌
Do you think I could fit the box in the back of my 4 door jeep wrangler? With seats folded down. I don't have access to a truck
Awesome video! Thanks for all the details!
I would still take a Matco over these because of the thicker material and quality control Matco has over the production of their boxes but this box does have its place I’m glad to see harbor freight is offering more than just the 5 drawer cart
Competition is usually good for consumers 👌🏻
Hell for the price of 4 or 5 of these they should be better built but for 4 or 5 times the cost no absolutely not!
The strap ons are giving people a screwing
@@michaelvoorhees5978 The price is astronomical for very little improvement over quality competitor brands.
@@wendellgreenidge3362 you messed up and wasted alot of money

nice video you showed the box off nicely!! but i do have one question..if you lock the box with the key but the drawer lock latch is in the unlock position, will they still be locked of does the key only lock the lid?
Interesting question. So I just checked it cause I’d never thought of that. If a drawer is “shut to” but not actually latched, locking the box (lever under the lid) does not prevent the “shut to” drawer from opening and closing. Something I thought was neat, though, is that you *can* fully shut the drawer left open and once you do, it will stay locked shut. Thanks for the good question!
i got 2 0f the 5 drawer ones at home and work and never had a issue and this is probably gonna be my work car soon but i wish it was a slider top
You liking them pretty well then? So far I’m really happy with mine 👍🏻
Wish we could get these over here in the uk!
They need a purple with black trim and I’m sold lol
Anywhere in canada sell these boxes? Looks like a great entry box
These are amazing
I wonder if they are going to bring the sliding stainless steel top instead of this version that the top flips up. I’m stuck between this one and the 56”. Thanks for sharing! 😎👍🏻
That’s a good question, I haven’t seen the sliding top yet. Thanks for checking out the vid!
They are 499 now. I will be getting one really soon hopefully.
That’s a solid deal, should come out close to what I paid after tax 👍🏻
Great review buddy!
Thank you, I hope it helped you out. I’m still enjoying this box, it’s served me well
I purchased one of these too and I don't think mine has grease able casters
Hello Kame Trick
Thank you for a Great Video. I just found your channel and subscribed. Your very thorough. Again thank you
Glad I could help, thanks for taking a moment to leave me a comment! 👋🏻
I bought a like new snap on roll cart used for $900 on offer up just before HF came out with these.
That’s a solid deal and you got a rad brand name, so that’s good 👍🏻
That 300 though! Nice 👍
This box is on sale now $599 bucks I think the sale ends Sunday night Oct 31 , 2021
That’s a solid deal! All told I got mine for $535
Love you dad.
I never thought I'd see a Fiero again.
Haha 🤣
Ready for this in slate gray
Any idea if you can purchase the bumpers separately?
I believe the bumper is listed as a part on the owners manual, there’s also a number to call. I suggest calling and asking: manuals.harborfreight.com/manuals/57000-57999/57517-193175450760.pdf
I've heard of dealerships making people agree to buy a snap on/mac/matco tool box within x amount of months of starting at their dealership as to upkeep their status
Dang, that’s kind of intense...maybe the idea is to make ppl get into big debt so they don’t have the ability to leave or something 🤔 Also thats an awesome username 👌🏻
That’s disgusting.
Id beat somebody for that
Beautiful tool box
Yeah, I’m very pleased with it 👍🏻
I’ve got this one at home and the Matco at work I hate the Matco one at work
Sweet, well organized
I just don’t have much in there yet, I’ll make an update video as I get my tools fully transitioned into this beast 👌🏻
Great Design
Great video!
Thank you! I appreciate it :)
Where’s the video on how you got the discounts?
@@TheLexiconDevils you're so wrong..... must be a fan boy
Anyone watching this video: There's a coupon on their website for this box in any of the 6 colors for $499 until 3/20.
I used it and ordered an orange one yesterday. Can't wait to get it in 2 to 3 weeks they said
Sold!
They need top sliders !!!!!!!!
You could scrape off the us and fill in with the general lee
Haha that’s pretty creative, I gotta admit 😆
I ordered the orange. Gonna find a big rebel flag sticker for the top
I guess if I had more money than I knew what to do with I’d roll out the red carpet for my gear, but until then I’m “dollar to performance” first 💯
Cool video. What year is that red car?
Thanks! The car is my 1991 Nissan 240SX, you can see it in action in several vids such as: ruclips.net/video/xny9dY_kiiU/видео.html

Can't beat the quality for the Price point. The "Name Brand" boxes are mostly paying for a Name "prestige" factor 🙄

$499 today here in Pa
Yeah the Black Friday deals are solid 👍🏻
not gonna lie...Im jelly like SMUCKERS.
I want the green color though.
Their green looks pretty good, too. Would have matched the racing clutch unit on my track car 😎
matco has better , thicker metal.. but the savings is a consideration

100 bucks off right now !
it's a nice box don't get me wrong but he dropped something in the holes where the screwdrivers are you got to go fish to get it out quarter inch Drive my dinner's ready
The problem is if you work with other guys they're going to give you shit everyday because you didn't buy off the tool truck and spend 3x too much.
Yeah, and that is a legit problem. Social pressure is real and no one wants to feel bad for having less than their coworkers or buddies. It seems hard for most people to step outside of that mental framework.

Sorry but the US General does not compare to the quality of the Snap On box, plus the Snap On box is made in America the US General is made in China. Support America and American workers. Back to the build quality of the box vs Snap On, the Snap On is head and shoulders better build quality.
