Fairly good review. Since Harbor Freight does not list all measurements, it would be nice to inform that the larger (higher) drawers measure 4-7/8" vertical depth, basically 5", and the smaller drawers measure 2-3/8" vertical depth, basically 2-1/2". The widest width drawers measure 36-7/8", the second width drawers measure 22-1/8" and the third width drawers measure 11-7/8". The sliding depth (away and towards you) all measure 19-1/4" deep.
Jimmy, great video, very informative. Just wondering, on your 42"roll cab. Does your roll cab have 2 -90* angle braces underneath the roll cab, between the wheels? The reason I ask, I bought 2- 42" roll cab recently. One had more and beefier bracing (4 total), and the other had fewer and flimsier bracing, only (2). Facing the roll cab, one had U shaped bracing at each set of wheels, along with 2- 90* angle bracing between the wheels. The other had only 2- 90* angle brace at the wheels, instead of the U shaped bracing. No bracing between the wheels.
How deep is the wide top drawer on the base cabinet? Trying see if it would fit my sockets on the hansen organizer trays. My big husky won't unless i remove the drawer liner. Kind of a bummer
If you put a small screw and flat washer in on top of the latch it eliminates the latch without having to remove the whole thing. Then there is a detent that will hold the drawer if you don't push it in to hard, if you push it in hard then it opens hard. On my gen 2 I had to remove the latch and put a couple of magnet blocks behind each drawer. All in all it's a good solid box. Mines a 52 sitting on a gen2 72 inch.
I can't figure out how to attach my top chest to my bottom box. Does it just sit on top of the bottom box? I figured there would be bolts that hold the two together?
I cannot find anything on the height of the top box as an alone piece when you open the lid. Did you happen to measure that at all or are you willing too??😂 thanks if you do!! I’m trying to fit it underneath where I have my work station from a converted Husky shelf. The website has just the height if the box is closed. So I guess I can add about 8-10 more inches if it’s open due to the angle but not sure
I guess I wasn't clear with my question. What I need to know is how high each of the drawers are so I can stand up some deep sockets on a holder. I have been unable to find these measurements on the website. Thanks @@jimmysgarage9068
@@jimmysgarage9068 Thank you so much! We discovered you can remove the drawers and that made it liftable with two people. But glad that is only a one time deal.
Yeah. On the bottom box if you look at the back of each drawer you'll see a little silver plate riveted in place. The other side of the plate has a notch that gets engaged by a bar that hangs behind the drawers and is actuated by the key lock. Locking the box drops the bar down, unlocking it pulls the bar up. The top box operates in a similar fashion with those cutouts you can see in the back of the drawers. The outside latches are just to keep the drawers from potentially sliding open on their own. Snap-On boxes use the same setup, other boxes (Mac, Matco, Icon, etc.) use spring detents on the drawer slides.
Great video. I’m kicking around the idea of selling my 5-Drawer US General service cart and updating to a roll cab like you have. I probably should have gone with a cabinet to begin with but the price of the carts was too attractive. I’m just a DIY’er/weekend warrior so my cart just sits stationary as it is where it fits in my home garage, and I don’t really benefit from it being a mobile cart. I may eventually do the top box as well like you have as it seems like a good place to charge and store all my batteries for my cordless tools. I saw the power drawer they have on the bigger boxes but I think the top like you have would be better.
Sometimes ya just gotta? Because even a fellow H E plt. Red patcher-Jarhead has been known to SLAM A DRAWER! or two. In the sight of a project's mission having the slightest thread of uncertainty! That action naturally produces an intensified focus to aid in a successfully completed Mission. Esprit D' Corps in it's rarest form. Many a Seabee can recognize this. That action within the split second of your video was genuine. I let out a chuckle while my wife was getting her H F shirt on in preparation to report to work. Tapped the subscribe button. And I said, honey, You gotta take a look at this! We both laughed, and enjoyed your video. Tonight she'll be bringing home after work, a new slate grey 42" U S General cabinet tool box for our interior mudroom. Just kind of a lil tool storage so we don't have to go outside to the shed when we need a tool for use inside our home. Because when it's subzero weather up here in the Great Northwest. There hasn't been too many times when finally acquiring the tool I need. I haven't found myself "SLAMMING" the toolbox drawer before returning to the confines of our warm home. Thanks Jimmy for the video, and enjoyment we got from it. Oh, and not to mention a new tool storage unit!
Good review. On a contrarian note, I purchased this same setup in part because it _did not_ have soft close drawers. Those things drive me nuts. Opening requires pulling past a threshold, at which point the drawer flies open, potentially spilling any contents not locked down in organizers. Give me an old-fashioned smooth-pulling/closing drawer slide anyday. Oh - I also removed all of the plastic drawer latches. A couple other noteworthy pluses of the USG Series 3 cabinets... drawers slide _completely_ open, so I can easily get to the socket in the far back corner. And there are a number of modular options for attached side tables, cabinets, etc.
I wish they had a option to let you specify draw order and draw size to make the box more to your particular needs ,. Be nice if you could swapp the drawer on the lower left to right.

Thanks for the info and thank you for watching 🇺🇸🤘. You’re awesome.
Do you have the outside dimensions of the bottom box, not including wheels? Thinking of putting a couple of these under a workbench.
@@RPM_Tim 42" wide x 22" deep x 35-3/8" tall without casters.
@ddb1143 thanks, I picked up a couple husky 46" cabs. About 31" without the casters, with a 2x4 and 1 inch roller bearings mounted 33.5"
So much awesome new stuff coming in
Kicking it up a notch.
Jimmy you know Seabees need good things to have in their garage. 😊
One Seabees to another. CAN DO
You got yourself another sub. You seem to like harbor freight as much as I do! I also just picked up the Bauer 8 inch drill press today.
Thank you sir!!
Very nice! Just looked at this very exact red setup at HF 2 hours ago. Love the classic red. Not sure if need this 42" or the smaller setup though.
Go big or go home 🤘🇺🇸
Would have liked to see the entire unboxing, especially of the top chest.
BTW, how did you get that top chest placed on top of the roller ?

Stopped the video at 23 seconds. You started FF the unboxing. Thank you x10. Good editing.
Thank you for that feedback. I try to make my videos watchable the whole way through without being boring. 🇺🇸🤘
Hi do you know the height from the ground to the top of the open lid, you mentioned it’s 67” closed but what’s the height with it opened
Thanks

It’s deep. I have all my air tools in that drawer - some of them pretty thick. It’s a great toolbox thus far.
@@jimmysgarage9068 nice.

Just sits right on there.
Is this particular one allow you to put those side cabinets on it if someone decided to?
I believe so, but you should check the HF website to be sure.

How deep are the drawers? I have a lot of deep sockets mounted on organizers (standing up). Thanks
As deep as the box is. The drawers differ in height. All the numbers should be on the website 🤘🇺🇸

We just purchased this but we’re at a loss as how to get the top put on bc of the weight/size. How did you get it put on the bottom chest?
I used my adjustable work table. A friend helped me lift it on there & then we slid it onto the box. It’s extremely heavy.
@@jimmysgarage9068 Thank you so much! We discovered you can remove the drawers and that made it liftable with two people. But glad that is only a one time deal.
How heavy is it and how many men to lift that top piece on top bottom piece?
Very heavy. At least three.
Will the drawers still lock with the key even when the drawer latches are taken off?

It’s a really nice setup. I’ll warn you - you’ll need at least three able bodied adults to put the top box onto the bottom. Super heavy! 🇺🇸🤘
@@jimmysgarage9068 That right there is why I am hesitating to buy it. I may just do a side box and a side cabinet.

Is there a way to ship this to UK
I’m not the guy to ask. Look on the website maybe?
Great looking box. Does it come in other colors?
Yeah man. Harborfreight.com -> tons of colors.
How tall are you? Just for reference of the total height of both boxes. I’m 5’9”
