I am a professional auto mechanic and strongly recommend the Harbor Freight 5 drawer cart. Since it was released it is one of, if not the best quality tool for the money. It is big enough that techs who are starting out can make there living out of the thing for years and for guys like me it can easily lug around the tools I use 90% of the time. And that's what a tool cart is supposed to do; extend the reach of your main box. The struts will eventually fail, but all of them do. No biggy, just clamp the strut open with a small pair of vice grips. I have replaced my top compartment drawer liner with a diesel truck mud flap cut to fit. I have the folding side table also. I make $72k a year and can afford any tool cart I want but the Harbor Freight 5 drawer is the real deal. No one has made fun of it, even guys with $2k roll carts that are as big as main toolboxes used to be.

      Thanks for the review.
I mentioned this to some mechanic friends of mine and they assured me they wouldn't hold up in a pro garage.
      That seemed odd to me.
Tool boxes hold tools whether at home or at the car dealership.
Yes Snap On parks a truck on their boxes as a demo but that that isn't something you should do at work.
Seems like to me the tool box is a great place to save money so you can afford to fill it with quality tools.
I have been impressed with many of HF hand tools.
I have seen their ratchets, sockets and wrenches tested to failure.
You are not going to break any of those without a piece of pipe.
They aren't the best but for many of us they are good enough.

I work at a dodge/Chrysler/Jeep/ram dealership and all my coworkers are very experienced all with 1500+ in their roll carts & roll cart accessories alone. That being said they always say what an impressive value my harbor freight 5 drawer cart is when I roll it past their bay. Like every time they see it they wish they could return theirs for the money back and buy the harbor freight. I did the bumper rubber mod and snap on side peg board thing also welded some scrap tube steel to the back to stick my BIG pry bars in and have also welded other mounts on the back and sides to hold other tools like my set of persuaders (hammers). It’s nice that the cart was only 150$ because I don’t feel bad about grinding away some paint and welding something on that will make it more functional. Also, it says 700lb capacity but I’m sure I have mine loaded with at least 1000lbs of weight with all the mods and tools I have stuffed in there 👍 I have all the roll cart features I could ever want and the price I paid for everything saved me money that I could spend on tool truck tools and I think the brand on your tools are more important than the brand on the box I put them in

@@andybub45 Not $550 worth of differences... and it ain't even close! Snap-On has some great products, Auto diagnostics and hand tools in particular. But Snap-On (particularly with Tools Storage and battery tools) needs to change its price/distribution (entire business) model. Their distribution and pricing/margins/distribution model in these times is the business plan equivalent of Ford having a product line business plan of the Model T and Pinto. While Snap-On PRODUCTs are solid, their distribution/profit margins model is Jurassic.
That said, I really would like to hear from you what those "lots of differences" are... I could well be missing things that are much more significant than I realize. I'm always eager to learn new things. But I hope you can recognize that nearly triple the price makes for a pretty tall mountain of differences to climb.
      Just sayin'

I’ve worked at HFT for the past year and a half and can strongly recommend the 30” box as i’ve had NUMEROUS customers compliment the box’s performance against that of the competitors when comparing price, quality and the origin of manufacturer. You can say i’m bias; but I also own a craftsman 26” box alongside my US General 30” and I can say I prefer the US General features as they seem to be better thought out and user friendly. The small side locks on each drawer are my favorite feature because you can easily transport the box, let’s say to the road course or track in your trailer, and not have they drawers open when the lid is up. Thanks hope this helps someone

I just purchased a blue one tonight. I have been watching the price of these go up in the past few months... Today they were $209.99, on sale for $189.99, and I had a coupon for $169.99. I purchased the additional side tray with a 20% off coupon. It was like buying the cart, and getting a free side tray. It took 45 minutes flat to assemble, which I owe you for the awesome video showing the assembly. Thank you for the awesome review!!! It certainly made my decision easier. I am sure to get many good years use out of this cart as I already own the 30" 4 drawer unit (7 years no problems). I also own the 72" tool box, with a 56" chest, 7 drawer end cabinet, and 16" end locker (5 years no problems). In one of the 200lb drawers I have my 3/4" drive sockets, ratchets, breaker bars, etc..., which weigh well over 200 lbs. It still gives me no headaches as it functions like it has less than 100lbs. Absolutely love my 2 original service charts. Have had them in use for 2 years as a in house fork lift tech and has held up rather well. With the exception that I've had to pull drawers out several times to move from location to location and bent a rail. No replacement parts that I know of

I purchased the U.S. General because of this video. I made the same purchase you did with the rubber bumpers and am quite happy with the choice. I got a better deal on the box than you did because I purchased an open box. Someone had purchased it and decided the assembly was too complicated and returned it. Paid $92 for mine and about $30 for the bumpers. Removing the drawers was a GREAT suggestion... made the final assembly a snap. I sold my BluePoint back to the Snap-on guy... He wasn't happy, but he did understand.
Thanks again for the awesome review!

First and foremost, this was an EXCELLENT tool review!
What I’m about to say is merely one 60 year old man’s opinion and may have no meaning to anyone, but you don’t live to this age and wrench on stuff for longer than many readers have even been alive without stumbling over a few truths in life. Case in point, This review just illustrates how easily we can be sucked in by greedy marketing. I don’t care how you look at it, there is no way in hell that Blue Point is worth THREE TIMES THE MONEY! And I’ll lay you odds they’re probably made in the same assembly plant with only slight different specifications and colors. I once read an excellent article in a woodworking magazine what had actual photographs of an overseas manufacturing plant building large woodworking machinery coming down the assembly line. Just by the color scheme alone, you could clearly recognize and identify FOUR different branded pieces of machinery coming out of the same molds!
More recently, a fellow woodworker and I were comparing our different (differently branded and PRICED) lathes, only to realize the castings were IDENTICAL in every single aspect! (except a 42% price difference!). I’m talking about down to the most intricate details that no two designers could have possibly included by coincidence. We further decided to test that theory by attempting to swap out key components to ensure it was not merely an optical illusion. You guessed it......EXACT fit....on every part we tried! Same castings, same quality, same machining process, same factory warranty, with a different color sprayed on and as previously mentioned, a 42% markup on my buddy’s unit. 😝. Honestly...it makes us both sick that marketing departments have gotten so good at deceiving us into believing we’re paying almost half again as much for increased quality when many times nothing could be farther from the truth. Now, I’m not implying that this is never the case because sometimes, you really do get what you paid for, but the older I get, the more I understand just how sneaky and effectively a good marketing ploy can doop us into turning loose of more of our hard-earned dollars for a snooby name sticker when we would be waaaay ahead to have done our homework to determine if there really IS a true difference in quality and if not....put those dollars into expanding our tool collections instead of making “brand X” richer. Do your homework and be cautious. Do not go just on the word of those that purchased brand “X” because they often will adamantly defend their choices despite having realized they paid way too much for a “branded” product. Yes, I know this will ruffle some feathers on some people, but please folks......do your homework before signing that contract on the big name toolbox that you’ll be paying on for the next twenty years when a lesser named brand would serve you for years and years and be paid for before the tool snob has made his third (3rd of 400) payments on that over-priced unit. EXCELLENT TOOL REVIEW!

I used to work with a guy who worked on cars professionally for many years and one of the best pieces of advice he ever gave me was to never buy an expensive tool box, at the end of the day all they do is hold tools. You won't get tool truck quality at harbor freight but for 1/10th of the price it's extremely close

I have seen reviews on these carts on other channels and i have to say.. your review is the one that sold me on the HF cart. I could by 3 of those carts with upgrades for 1 of the blue point.
When it comes to value.. i dont see how the blue point is 3 times better than the HF. Basically they are selling to their fan boys.. knowing their fan boys will buy it because its a snap on.

I use the US General 72" box every day at work in a heavy duty diesel/heavy equipment shop and i love it. The only complaint i have is the drawer liners suck. I highly recommend replacing them with a higher quality liner before stocking it with tools. The liners slide and rip very easily but other than that, it is an amazing box that you are going to love.

I have the 56" box. Would have bought the 72" if I had known it was available. Cost me $700, 4 years ago and it's still a box that's able to hold my tools. Equivalent Snap On would be 6-7 times that cost, for a box that hold my tools...I like the snap on box and I know there's a quality difference, just could not justify another payment.

I have the original HF version of this cart and have had it in daily use for over ten years. I added the folding tray but retained the original casters. I also made a couple of personalized mods the first being the addition of plastic-coated1" square wire mesh (1" square mesh leftover guarding from a job at work before retiring.) THE mesh is installed on both sides and the back and allows me to stack larger tools on the bottom without them falling off when moving the cart. I also added black vinyl liner to the top of the cart as well as the folding shelf. This protects the top surface and makes for a workbench. I only store seldom-used tools in the top section. In fact, I use this cart primarily for specialized automotive tools. It gets for use as a mobile workbench. In all the time I've owned it, I've only had to replace the gas struts once. I'm retired and I have my own shop where my hobby is restoring old cars. I have four large rolling tool cabinets. Two are old Craftsman boxes (One is for air tools and the other is measuring/test equipment and more specialized automotive tools. I use a large HF box for handtools.

I got the HF one for 170$. Been using it now for 6 years with heavy use. Had to replace the nitro for the lid once so far. Other than that this is the best tool cart for the money. I have seen so many tool carts fail by losing hold on their drawers. Do not underestimate the locks on the US General cart.

Wow, what a review I don't think you repeated yourself once. You tell it like like it is. I no longer work as a mechanic, but "back in the day" when I was poor with four kids, I made do with my Craftsman tool box. Snap On, MacTools and one other guy I can't remember came by the shop every other week, trying to sell me some new gadget. What really cracked me up was, the Snap On guy managed to convince the young man working as the LOF oil change guy, that he needed a huge tool box. The poor kid barely made enough money for living expenses, let alone pay for that tool box. They soon repoed that box and he quit. Funny how everything is made in China these days. What's even funnier, is the quality is pretty good. I quit that job and became a police officer until an injury retired me out. Now, to get back to your question, which one would I buy ? I would probably buy the HF US General, if I were back in the day, seeing they both are made in China and the price is right. I was a mechanic back then, today they are techs. I was working (flat rate) $10.00 per hour which usually ended up making a lot less. When I announced I was leaving, they offered me $12.00 per hour. I asked, is that flat rate or actually $12.00. The boss almost choked on his cold over sweetened coffee, and spit out flat rate of course. Bye ! You do a great service with your videos and I look forward to the next video. PS I am 80 years old and back then was a long time ago ;-) take care....Ken retired CPT INF, US Army 20 years Vietnam vet and 15 police officer. Marina CA....

Harbor Freight is upgrading it's tool cabinets as well. Was going to purchase the 44" set but noticed that for a week or so the upper cabinet wasn't available on line. Glad I waited as the series 2 44" cabinets are now 22" deep instead of the former 18" deep model. The side locker has been upgraded as well. They replaced the 2 shallower drawers in it with 1 deeper drawer and it now comes with 1 additional shelf compared to its predecessor. There are a total of 3 shelves now in the locker instead of 2. This better utilizes available space for storage in the approximately two 55" tall cabinet

I absolutely love my U.S. General cart. I use it in a small fab shop that I run all the time. Planning on buying at least one more for the plasma table and then probably powder coat as well. It is sturdy, looks good, and holds more tools than you might think while still being mobile enough to move it all over a shop. Being able to move it was a bigger deal than I realized going from a garage to even just a 2k sq ft shop. Lot more space and a lot more walking around.
