It was a little flimsier than I expected. I had to add a 2x2 piece of wood to the bottom on the rear side in order to stabilize it better ruclips.net/user/postUgkxXTh-lz-8W6GcB219vTLp27-MxbZYObBX . It is also starting to bow a little at the outer wall ( I've had it up for about 6 months), I've already had a shelf tumble down because of the bow and the fact that the little shelf brackets are quite short. I went out to home depot and got some longer ones so that the shelves don't tumble down again. Overall, it looks very nice for the price and it holds a lot ( I use it as a pantry). I am very satisfied with my purchase. I just strongly suggest reinforcing it before putting it up.

You mention that the 26 is a good size for the home DIY type and I agree completely. I actually have the 26 inch wide box in my professional setup as well and love it. Admittedly my professional setup is the Craftsman lineup but my reason for the 26 preference crosses over. Easily maneuverable, can build taller (mine is 3 tier), and in the event that I have to change sites I can reach the handles and move the box myself. Sure, I have to unload it first, but only because I don't want a back injury or hernia.

Good review of these two items.
I’ll stick with the 5 drawer for my work in the light industrial maintenance tech field. It rolls really nicely between machines and tight areas while having all the tools I’ll need.
I like that I’m able to have the tools I use most frequently, on display when the top is up and easy to get to, only opening drawers for the more in-depth work orders.

We use this everyday at my plant. Drag it around to each machine we are fixing. Great cart. Best you can buy for the amount of money it cost. Sturdiest for the price. Drawers have detention locks so they don’t fly open and bang into stuff while wheeling it around. Holds a chit ton of tools. No better cart for the money. Originally got the 4 drawer. Upgraded to the 5 drawer because needed more storage. Just
Go for the 5 drawer. You’ll be happy.

Great video! 👍🏼 I own the 30” cart in blue since October and love it, I filled it up quick! This past weekend I purchased the 26” cart in blue for $279. I assembled it and put all my tools in it last night. My first impressions are I like the way the drawers feel (open, close, the smoothness of them and the over performance of them) on the 30” cart better than the 26” box. I wish the 26” box had thicker drawers up at the top.. My intentions are to add the top box on the 26” bottom box shortly but overall I am happy with the 26” box so far! Best boxes for the $$ IMO!

It looks good. I have the older 4 drawer cart which is overflowing. On the open shelf I have my nearly 50 year old Craftsman (includes 1 inside single tray) toolbox.
I have one other larger (41 inch wide) Porter Cable tool cabinet. It works real well for my power hand tools. I need another cabinet or cart. I also bought the open mult-shelf rolling cart. I like it because I can bring my immediate tools out where I work on the car.
I just picked up the welding cart with the slanted top shelf fir $29.xx. I'm going to use that for electronic repairs. It's a perfect rolling cart for my oscilloscope, voltmeter and signal generator. That totally frees up my work bench surface area. I can wheel it to either side of me to form an L shaped work bench system with flexibility.
I find your videos helpful. Thanks.

I wish they had the colors out when I got my tool cabinet last year for class. The red just kinda blends in with all the Craftsman and Kennedy boxes in the machine shop (learning to become a CNC machinist btw).
My only complaint is that some drawers feel too shallow. I'd like to put my drill indexes and some indicators in the upper 3 drawers, but the boxes are just barely too tall to fit. The next step for me is to get some Schaller bins for organizing end mills, taps, and inserts.

I have to say, I bought 2 of the carts, one of the 26" cabinet + the top, and also the 56 inch cabinet. I'm very pleased with all of them. They are very sturdy and fit my needs as a DIYer just fine. I'm still saving up for the top cabinet for the 56". I have 3 generations of tools to store, so...
To think though, I've spent less on. The 5 pieces than what some one might pay for one snap-on, Marco, etc equal sized tool carts, and in my opinion, just as good quality.

Good for you. Bear! I got the blue 26" roller chest for Christmas (love it) and found the top chest NOWHERE in stock so they ordered it for me. Came in under 2 weeks and the carton was pristine. The chest... not so good, with a big dent in the bottom frame that blocked the drawer from opening. Still waiting for that second top chest and hope to see it in the next week. The factory must have boxed up a damaged product so tell your viewers to open these cabinets and carts at the store to save time. I'm not growling too much - the top chest is worth the wait.

As an industrial maintenance mechanic we have our own tool boxes . We travel around from building to building to make repairs on a forklift. Yet production down time is money . So we the company after talking to them decided to buy the tool top boxes to roll around the building. Please understand we are talking Aerospace lots with 60 acres or more. And 100s if buildings. With a 6 man maintenance crew on three shifts. Yet when we need the big gun tools we have to bring out tool boxes. And also have carts to remove large motors and replace them. My point is I enjoy your channel and have saved my self some money . Yet industrial is not the same as shop or garage .

For anyone interested in the 26" keep in mind any of those plastic trays that icon, snap on, and many others include that keep your tools organized will NOT fit in the drawers as they are way to shallow. Ended up returning mine for the same reason. If only all the drawers were 1/4 deeper, and the top drawer was deep for sockets to stand vertical, this would be perfect

Pros and cons for sure. There's certainly a market for each. If I needed a cart I would wish it had drawers all the way down, as I don't see the open area being as useful as it looks. Perhaps one deep drawer there would be the ultimate compromise. I do wish all toolboxes had a deep drawer on top for socket racks. Divided, narrow drawers are always a negative to me too, as the cart has. The 22" depth is awesome. Don't you wish there was some way to fully customize what drawers you could get for your needs?

    • @truckerpeterose

john4kc I agree, a tool cart with drawers all the way down would be perfect. Mac sells one for over $1000 but I don’t want one that bad. I actually use my space for all my tool kits that are in plastic cases and it actually works out pretty good.

    • @truckerpeterose
      @truckerpeterose 5 лет назад +1

john4kc I was curious about rearranging the drawers on the cabinet and did some research and found out that the Snap-On boxes can be arranged differently and although I haven’t seen anything on the HF boxes I think the bottom big drawer could get moved up to the top in place of the 2 little drawers. I still haven’t looked in there to see if it’s marked or not to accommodate moving the rails.

Like you, I needed max storage in my work shop. (Actually a 12x16 shed) and mobility was not important to me. I looked at all options, and the 5 drawer cart just didn't make sense for me.
The cart is more for a guy in a repair shop who needs to constantly move the tools to the project, and as an added piece for his tool chest. (Just my opinion).
I bought the 26" roller cabinet and the top chest. It has much more tool storage capabilities, but can also be moved when needed.

The most impressive aspect of the cabinet is that it was cushioned with "genuine high-grade Styrofoam." (Lucky you!) I hate it when a product is cushioned with faux high-grade Styrofoam. Non-genuine packing material debases the ever-exciting unboxing experience. Unboxing a product is almost as important as using it (proven by the huge number of unboxing videos on RUclips). By the way, I like the cabinet more than the cart---seems more useful. Blue is nice. Shine on.

I bought one of those five drawer tool cabinets and it's BLUE! I told them if they didn't have green, then I'll take a blue. They didn't have the green.

im sure i watched this a year ago when it came out, but pretty much just glazed over . ive been him hawing about getting a tool cart for the last year. pretty much finally decided to do it and after watching 2 days of "hf tool cart mods" ive come to the same conclusion, im going to spend more money and time pretty much just turning the cart into a tool cab, so might as well just buy the cab. then i saw this old video and saw i already had you tell me this but i wasnt paying attention.

The cart is more of a "big tool storage" appliance imo. It has space for things that don't quite fit in a drawer on the top, sides and down below, as well as the drawers being deeper. The open lower space can hold some longer materials which gives it an advantage over the "homeowner" style tool chests with the big covered bottom space. If I decide to get it I'd probably fix the lid open and attach a small tool board to it as I don't need the locking feature either.
Will say though, the big vulcan welding cabinet tempting as a center for working on my bikes... the ones in the stores feel really sturdy and I wouldn't worry about it tipping over if I slapped a bicycle vise over the cylinder storage ledge. (Plus the 20% off vulcan coupon works on it)

Having the portable work surface seems like it would be more useful than the hinged lid for home use in a lot of cases.

For some reason I never got any carts or cabinets. My shop in the basement has peg boards with all the tools hung up and some shelves for powers tools. In the garage I have a few basic tools hung up. I get a lot of exercise going to the basement for that tool that I didn't think I'd need.

Is this a sign? Lol am I now destined to own one of my own? Only time will tell, enjoy the game! Shine on brother!

I love my box. Picked up one for school. My professor gave me shit for buying a harbor freight instead of a snap on. But I told him I’d rather spend my money on the tools. Friggin love this box. I feel the rubber top is easy to be chewed up by anything remotely sharp. And it collects grease and dirt easily but is hard to clean. Also depending on how the wheels are it will rock a bit. Not enough to tip over but enough to be annoying if you’re working on it. Overall a really nice box for the price, (USE THE COUPONS!)

You know, next month the top box for this has a coupon for $169.99. I had not planned on getting it, as I like the extra space but I think I'm going to do it.

I’m kinda surprised that at 52, you needed a new cabinet. To me that would be a one time buy when young. I’ve had my Craftsman for 25 years almost and haven’t seen any reason to upgrade....”upgrade”?....to what? Not being able to open more then one drawer? I’m assuming you bought it for video purposes which was an interesting watch.

The only problem I have with those tool boxes is that long pry bars and breaker bars don't fit well. Also, the dang drawers are to shallow. It seems that every tool I own won't fit in the shallow drawers. It looks great for wrenches, screwdrivers and such. I have a couple tool boxes like that with several shallow drawers. I put Sawzall Blades, misc springs and Clamps, and things like that in there so they aren't just thrown all over the shop. The US General boxes and carts are very stout and nice!

Nice Job Bear. I like my 5 drawers. The problem I have is I need more deep drawers. I wish I had the option of adding deep drawers under it. What is my best option for deep drawers? I have a 6 piece Ridgid with the extra batteries and charges it is full the skill saw is in the car plate underneath. Keep Shining Mr. Bear. Thx Tom

I have operated out of the 5 drawer cart for 2 years... I aquired a kobalt cabinet with drawer, and use that to hold my tools in cases. On top of the cabinet I put my coffee pot and battery chargers. I recently bout the 52 top and bottom, so now I'm not shy of room... Just tools to fill it up.

He needs to get an impact from harbor freight and do a video on them as well. I personally don't mind my hf impacts air and electric. However the air ratchets are horrible and don't recommend. I actally replaced my junk HF air ratchet with a CH one for only $5 more and its a mile better.

Wish they would make a model of the cart with a big drawer where the open space on the bottom is (easier access and more secure) and a split top that slides to the sides like others do (can set tools on top and still access the tools inside and no need for a side tray)

When I first started looking at them the 4 drawer would regularly drop to $99 and special down to $89. The 5 cart I seem to remember it dropping to $139 for specials. Seems like when they come out with the extra colors they jacked the price up.

you need to start using www.hfqpdb.com There is a plugin there for chrome so that when you are on HF's website it will show you the best, current, coupon. You can see the coupon at work in the video at 8:22 Its the green box to the right of the price.
