I REALLY like your idea with this to expand the storage capacity of the tool cart. I WILL definitely do this side cabinet mod to mine as well. Thanks! Also, food for thought, in my 22 years as an Air Force heavy equipment mechanic (mobility/deployments) we used to bolt the top and bottom toolboxes together by removing the drawers as needed for access and drill a couple holes and use bolts, fender washers and nuts to tie both together for better stability. You could do same by bolting through the corners and with spacers for empty space on sides on cart, along with casters that everyone has already suggested. Since you keep cart strapped inside trailer, this would prevent the side cabinet from possibly coming off IF you hit big enough bump or pothole then open trailer to find cabinet and tools off all over trailer.
I hung an add on cabinet to both sides of the cart. Built a cradle of sorts outta 1/4 thick angle for under both add ons and mounted the blue hd wheels under each end. Also mounted the folding shelf to the side of the add on. Heavy but works great.
Can you do a follow up video after some use, I love the idea but I'm concerned it will be to heavy and it will fall over with out the added Jack holder to counter balance, also did you look at possibly adding casters to the end cabinet
Andres Apodaca I thought about adding casters to the end cabinet. Shouldn’t be to hard. Adding the jack holder was to help balance the cart out and to make it a easy place to keep. I’ll definitely do a follow up once it’s fully loaded and I’ve been using it.

I was thinking of adding that end cabinet to my blue cart. Looks great. I also agree with you on Harbor Freight should come out with different color jack stands.
This is what I was going to reccomend. Maybe add a thin plate to bottom of the cabinet along the outside edge to support the casters, and add like 2 there.
I did just that. Built a small "trolley" with sides to hold the end cabinet. Sits at the same height as the 5 drawer cabinet. Works great and you don't have to haul all that weight around.
I built my paper towel holder . Just bought a plastic paper towel holder at Wally world and gorilla glued two magnets into it ! I enjoy building the things I need more than buying em .
I did the same thing on a cart I use at work. The thing I had to do was make a base for the cart and side cabinet. When I had everything loaded up and tried to move the whole thing, the side cabinet made it too heavy on that end and almost flipped the thing over. maybe your floor jack will balance it. Great job.
Did the same hack on my cart, but kept the front of both units even. This meant notching the back of the side unit. I also bolted the side unit to the main cart’s legs, just for added security. I’ve been looking for a matching touch up paint for the neon green, so will look into 22Trips. Nice job!

I like your quest to build the best tool cart, and I understand why you chose to add the "end cabinet"(because you needed more tool storage while maintaining a compact footprint in your trailer)... Although, it may just be better and more cost effective to get a whole additional tool cart instead. Maybe one for SAE and one for METRIC; or one for SOCKETS and one for WRENCHES... Or just spend the $400ish upfront on a suitable sized box and then do your upgrades on that and have plenty "room to grow"... While maybe not practical, it was entertaining to watch and cool to see all the possibilities of what could be possible...
Spectt thanks for watching and the support. I would definitely agree that a box would make more sense for most part. For me I like the cart because I can store the jack stands and some other bigger items on the bottom. The end cabinet isn’t great. It’s narrow so arranging certain tools it tough. We will see how it works out this season. Two carts would work well for me.
I just bough one. Thanks for the great ideas. Although I probably would have went with some type of dremel tool or electrical cutter, for the cuts. When I assembled my tool box I knew it had more potential.=, but you blew me away. The only thing that I probably would have done different would be to add two more casters.
jt mobley I would definitely recommend using a small cut off wheel for the cuts. The casters under the box would definitely reduce the load on the cart. I’m glad I could help you. Thanks for watching and commenting.
If you make the fronts flush with each other, it only takes 2 little slits with a cutoff to make the side box work, one at the back of the lid and one on the box.
thanks for doing a video on adding the side cabinet some of the guys at my work and I have been thinking about doing this. Please do a follow up video after use to let us know if it is too much weight we have to move our carts around in a factory.
It's too much rolling around a factory. Unless you reinforce it really well the bolts will start to try to pull out of it mainly it seems to be the expansion joints they put in the floor. I've seen it happen on at least 3 of them now. Unless it just sits in one spot I'd suggest skipping adding any big locker or drawers on the end. If you still have to do it, IMHO best thing to do is get some angle iron and build a frame for it to sit on. Then move the casters out to all 4 corners.
I did the same for mine but I then drilled 4 holes into it and remounted my folding tray to the side cabinet...then I took the magnetic paper towel holder and stuck it to the tray.... now then you’ll have the ultimate tool cart
This is a good idea. Thanks for posting this. You talked about the color of your jack stands. How about painting your floor jack and jack holder to match everything else?
William Waugh I’m actually just going to get the green jack from Harbor Freight. I think the texture of the jack holder won’t take paint very well. Thanks for watching. I appreciate the support.
Maybe you answered this already, but where did you get the jack holder??? I’m going to want to do the same with mine, being it will be my mobile setup.
Flip the handle upside down so it’s flush with the top. What brand, color and where did you get the paint? I like the additional holes in the screwdriver tray idea. Pretty sure that bad boy is over the weight limit. Hope it works out -thanks for the video.
This is awesome I was thinking the car is really good but I was afraid it might be just a little bit too small for some of my tools so adding this extra cabinet is a great idea you showed it really well what I found one for mine whenever I get as I want to change it over to pneumatic off-road tires for the cart and what I'll do is add two more tires to the side box that way it's six wheels instead of four and that will help out with the tippiness because I don't need the jack holder on mine or I could go real crazy and add two side boxes one on each side
I’ve done this with my harbor freight box just didn’t put the jack on it lol. But once it’s filled up it gets pretty heavy to push around to add a jack that’s gotta get heavy. And idk about lifting the jack up and down after a few times I’d just leave it off.
Mattterson34 !! For me having the jack on there is just storage. I keep my cart in the car trailer. This allows me to have a spot for it and take up the least amount of space
What about adding the tool tray to the other side, and making it flip up on top of the lid of the cart. Then you can still use the pull handle, and have the cart tray work surface. Drop the handle lower, and install a flip hinge, and braces? Just thinking in my head
if you mounted the side box flush to the front the power strip could be put on the back unless you need to set the tool box flat to a wall idk just thinkin
I actually built this to go in my car trailer. So I wanted it to sit flush against the wall. Otherwise I would have flushed the front. If you did that then mount the power strip in the back. You could drill a hole to run the cables through to charge stuff with the lid down.
Way cool. I am surprised you didn't paint the jack holder green. Also surprised you didn't put the fold out table on to the add on side cabinet. It would take some work but I bet you could figure it out.
Well, I suppose if it works for you, then it works. Do you know the weight capacity of the casters? I'm thinking that as you fill the add-on cabinet, your total cart might reach their limit. A bigger tool chest is going to be more robust. You could upgrade the casters as an alternative. In any case, monitoring the casters might be a good idea.
Did you bolt the cabinet on any other way besides just hanging it by the top lip? I think I missed that part and didn't see you drill anything into the insides before the drawers were put back in.
If you make your cart so big it has all your tools then what's the need for a tool chest? I store all my rarely used tools in my cart to have more room in my main box. I leave the top empty to hold tools while I do a job and when the job is done I put them all back in my tool box then move on to the next job.
Retrogamer1010 for me it’s being able to store stuff underneath the box. Have the jackstands and other bigger items there is really nice. I normally have my cart in my trailer. It’s geared towards my racecar. But I agree if you don’t move it around much and have a lot of tools a box is the way to go. It’s more economical to get a decent size box than my set up.
I put the same side cabinet on my us general cart. I have mine so it’s flush at the front. I plan on adding casters to the underside of the end cabinet. I have a walk around video of it on my channel. 👍
I would recommend using nut rivets and bolts to anchor the bottom of the side box to the main cart, also to attach any other accessory's to the side of the side box.
GREAT video. Did the same thing with my tool cart. An electric or air powered cut off wheel makes the necessary cuts easier and quicker in my experience. Would you mind to give us the name of the paint color you used ? Not perfect, but best color match I have seen
Mark Bell i couldn’t find my little cut off saw. That would have definitely made it easier. I’ll take a look at the paint next time I’m at the shop and let you know. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Only thing missing is the 1000lbs harbor freight lift table. But that's a option if you work on trucks. This cart setup is basically my set up but I have the lift table because I'm a diesel mechanic 😂
@@BringItMuscleCars check out my Instagram codyphillips48. I took the cart put it on the lift table drilled the 16 holes and bolted the cart to the lift table I place of the wheels
Hammerdown Motorsports I like it but if it wasn’t going in the trailer I’d have bought a tool box for a bit more money. Way more storage for the money.
the series 1 cart/7 drawer cabinet worked better for this IMO. instead of it hanging off the front or back, it was about 2 inches shy in the back, which i used to make a space for my creeper to hang on a custom 18 gauge steel bracket coated with plastidip. i put the handle and can holder on the same side on the left, the 7 drawer on the right, creeper hook behind the 7 drawer, and the folding table to the right of the cabinet. everything mounted with matching carriage bolts, locknuts, and red loctite. 2 of the HF magnetic strips are bolted center on the lid, for pliers, cutters, nippers, drill bits, whatever. i upgraded the hood struts to ones off of a jeep cherokee back hatch, they hold 65 lbs a piece so i hang whatever i want on that lid. i also used an old ford fuel filter hanger and some air hose scraps as a drill holder mounted to the bolts of the top left of the cart body. this was before the boom in bluetooth speakers, so i wired up some battery operated ones for tunes too. got the magnetic glove holder right behind the cans on the left of the box where there's dead space under the shorter screwdrivers in the sides. i also stacked a couple 2x6" under the cabinet and added 2 more swivel casters. you had to do that because the bottom of the cabinet is recessed. works great. better than 7 years old now and it hasn't failed me once.
How end heavy is the cabinet after it is full? Do you actually have to compensate for the weight of tools in the cabinet? Like making sure you only put light stuff on the top/ect
I picked up the 4 drow and then added a side tool box on both sides then l put on bigger wheels. Works great. Then found a 9 drew top box, took the lead off it fitted in the bottom.
Add folding shelf to the back and another cabinet to the other side. On the inside of top box remove tools put plasma TV. In one draw put laptop. And on one of side cabinets put vice on other cabinet put mini lathe.

Just picked up one of these carts for racing superbikes. My cart will be travel to the race track in a trailer. You mentioned that yours travels in a trailer. How do you strap your cart down in the trailer? I assume you use ratchet straps, but how do you strap it in. With my current cart, I use “D” hooks on the floor and strap the hooks around the square steel tube of the Bluepoint cart frame. The HF cart frame doesn’t seem sturdy enough to handle being hooked and strapped. I was thinking of doing E-track on the trailer wall and strapping around the cart to the wall. Just wondering what solution you came up with. Thanks in advance. JohnV.
I have two D rings on the wall I strap it to. It runs across the drawer and I have to slide the strap up and down. I haven’t had a problem with it moving or loosing up.
@@BringItMuscleCars Thank you for the reply. Do you still do that even with the extra add on box that hangs from the right side of the cart side? I guess the bumper guards, placed properly, can serve as a protector from any rash caused by the straps going across the front of the cart. JohnV.
@@gecko6952 I still do. The strap did wear some of the paint though. It’s not the best layout overall because it’s a lot harder to load and unload from the trailer.
You may have doubled the weight carrying capacity of the cart, so the weak link may now be the wheels. Any thoughts of upgrading the wheels and castors?
Awesome video---great mod---been looking at the side storage too! One thing that is bugging me: hit those cut corners with a little paint. I bet someone has the color listed of exact match. I got blue and someone had listed the exact color match for it----Rust-Oleum Painters Touch 2x Ultracover DEEP BLUE GLOSS. Almost identical.
I wasn’t really worried about the doing that but I do have some more custom stuff coming to the box so I could do it then. Thanks for the paint recommendation.
FYI for those who have powder coat guns or access to one: The RAL 6018 green powder coat from prismatic powders is an exact match to that tool box color.
Bring It Muscle Cars one other tip is you can take some of that dry powder and mix with MEK (methyl ethyl ketone) and it will turn the powder into a liquid and you can touch up the bare metal where it’s cut and then use a heat gun to cure it.
Just wondering why you didn't fab up a frame to go under them both so you could upgrade the casters the ones on the cart do not hold up when over loaded and pushing it around they will last for awhile just my thoughts plus with the cars behind you you should have all the tools to fab it up easily
Michael Cross I’ve seen people make a frame for the bottom. It’s possible that I might do that. I’ve been looking at bigger “off road” casters to make it easier to move around at the track if I need to. For the most part it sits still in the trailer. I don’t do the fab work on the race car. I leave that to pros. When you’re doing 155-165 you don’t want anything to go wrong.
Michael Cotten I had thought about that. I wanted to wait and see if I was going to need them first. I’ll probably end up with them once I load it all up.
Why didnt you have the side cabinet flush with the front of the cart? What about putting that side tray back on? I'd put a set of casters under that side box.
Heavy D I chose not to have it flush with the front because I strap it to my car trailer. This cart is meant to stay with my drag car. I could put the side tray back on if I wanted to drill holes in side cabinet or not have a handle on the other side. You can put casters on the side box. I have plans to modify it even more now.
@@BringItMuscleCars That makes perfect sense, you may have said it in the video that it was going into your race trailer and I just missed it. I have the yellow cart and was wishing it was bigger, I am going to absolutely steal your upgrade tip and put a side cabinet on mine! Awesome tip!
Hey buddy I have saw another you tuber that had made a 10 drawer tool cart using 2 us general tool carts into 1 so I thought that was awesome and with your side box you would definitely have the ultimate box and maybe some day I'll be able to get it done for myself but anywho go and check it out I only wish I knew how to find it again??
Think I'd just buy the 44in tool chest. Has wheels. Bolt a handle to it. Put your jack holder on the side, done. I just think if you fill that end cabinet full of tools you're gonna run into that thing trying to tip over. But maybe I'm wrong.

I think if you can weld adding a frame to the bottom and moving the casters as far out as possible would be really good.
Harbor Freight could sell pre primed jack stands and the matching spray paint for all of their tool box colors.
William Brady is be okay with that that.
Where did you get the jack holder? I love that idea! Looks great hope its held up. Thanks
Amazon or summit racing. It’s held up great.
What about adding the tool tray to the other side, and making it flip up on top of the lid of the cart. Then you can still use the pull handle, and have the cart tray work surface. Drop the handle lower, and install a flip hinge, and braces? Just thinking in my head
That probably would have worked.
if you mounted the side box flush to the front the power strip could be put on the back unless you need to set the tool box flat to a wall idk just thinkin
The only reason I didn’t add the tray was because it was meant to stay in my trailer. I really should have just added it anyway.
I think you have the jack stands that are recalled. Guess you'll need to paint the replacements too. LOL. Great video😁
Ron Dunn I think you’re right. Oh course I paint them and took the sticker off. I’m out of luck now. 🤦♂️
@@BringItMuscleCars you may reach out to hft customer service. They maybe able to help, maybe...
If you need the number let me know
What happened to your side tray/shelf? Will it mount to the end cabinet?
Project Bumble Jeep you could mount it in the side cabinet but you’d have to drill holes in it.
Where you snag that Jack holder?
Well, I suppose if it works for you, then it works. Do you know the weight capacity of the casters? I'm thinking that as you fill the add-on cabinet, your total cart might reach their limit. A bigger tool chest is going to be more robust. You could upgrade the casters as an alternative. In any case, monitoring the casters might be a good idea.
Did you bolt the cabinet on any other way besides just hanging it by the top lip? I think I missed that part and didn't see you drill anything into the insides before the drawers were put back in.
Scottie Manners I just hung it on the side. Without it being loaded up I don’t see the need to bolt it down. Once I load it up it might be different
Hows the balance on the cart pushing sir thanks
is there a link to that jack holder?
Is the bottom of the side cabinet secured to the cart? If so how did you do it
It’s not. It’s heavy enough that it’s not going anywhere. The Sid cabinet weights like 120 lbs or something. It’s heavy.
I’ve actually watched your video a few times.
I would recommend using nut rivets and bolts to anchor the bottom of the side box to the main cart, also to attach any other accessory's to the side of the side box.
William Johnson that’s a good recommendation.
Casters on the end box to support it when it’s full of tools?
Me personally I would put Castor wheels on that side box that way you don't have to worry about counterbalancing it
Only thing missing is the 1000lbs harbor freight lift table. But that's a option if you work on trucks. This cart setup is basically my set up but I have the lift table because I'm a diesel mechanic 😂
Cody Phillips I’ll have to check that lift table out I’ve never heard of that with the cart. Where is it mounted.
@@BringItMuscleCars check out my Instagram codyphillips48. I took the cart put it on the lift table drilled the 16 holes and bolted the cart to the lift table I place of the wheels
nice I have pretty much the same cart and side cabinet I was thinking of putting them together like you did
Hammerdown Motorsports I like it but if it wasn’t going in the trailer I’d have bought a tool box for a bit more money. Way more storage for the money.
Looks great, only question I have is … did you bolt it to the main box or just let it hang?
Just let it hang
the series 1 cart/7 drawer cabinet worked better for this IMO. instead of it hanging off the front or back, it was about 2 inches shy in the back, which i used to make a space for my creeper to hang on a custom 18 gauge steel bracket coated with plastidip. i put the handle and can holder on the same side on the left, the 7 drawer on the right, creeper hook behind the 7 drawer, and the folding table to the right of the cabinet. everything mounted with matching carriage bolts, locknuts, and red loctite. 2 of the HF magnetic strips are bolted center on the lid, for pliers, cutters, nippers, drill bits, whatever. i upgraded the hood struts to ones off of a jeep cherokee back hatch, they hold 65 lbs a piece so i hang whatever i want on that lid. i also used an old ford fuel filter hanger and some air hose scraps as a drill holder mounted to the bolts of the top left of the cart body. this was before the boom in bluetooth speakers, so i wired up some battery operated ones for tunes too. got the magnetic glove holder right behind the cans on the left of the box where there's dead space under the shorter screwdrivers in the sides. i also stacked a couple 2x6" under the cabinet and added 2 more swivel casters. you had to do that because the bottom of the cabinet is recessed. works great. better than 7 years old now and it hasn't failed me once.
koolBOY8323 thanks for sharing. That’s a great idea with the creeper.
How end heavy is the cabinet after it is full? Do you actually have to compensate for the weight of tools in the cabinet? Like making sure you only put light stuff on the top/ect
It’s okay when it’s fully loaded as long as the rest of the box is full. It is tippy when pushing it around. I haven’t tipped it over yet though.
Good to know! “Havent tipped it yet” is good enough for me Thanks! I may just caster wheel the add on cart- use it as an electrical cart or something!
@@Superfly816 I think a lot of people put a set of casters on the cabinet. I was going to build a frame. I still might I just haven’t had time.
I picked up the 4 drow and then added a side tool box on both sides then l put on bigger wheels. Works great. Then found a 9 drew top box, took the lead off it fitted in the bottom.
Matt Swearingen that’s a lot of box at that point. Why didn’t you just get one of there boxes. It might have been cheaper.
Well I already have a Craftsman bottom and top box but I like this set up.
Matt Swearingen makes sense then.
Add folding shelf to the back and another cabinet to the other side. On the inside of top box remove tools put plasma TV. In one draw put laptop. And on one of side cabinets put vice on other cabinet put mini lathe.
*Hey man I just subscribed I have the EXACT Same box and would LOVE to do this as a add on, because I don’t want to buy a full size tool box just yet, I look forward to seeing the Review and maybe adding the casters under the End cabinet? Hopefully you show us step by step how to do it because I NEED This in my life haha my box is getting a little cramped!!*
IDABAYAREA650I thanks man. I definitely have more in store for the box. I’m going to do casters on the cabinet.
Bring It Muscle Cars *hell yeah! And maybe if you can give us Step by step Details like the Caster sizes and where to bolt where or make holes and so on and so on! , I’m sure I’m asking from a lot of other people too!*
It’s not the best layout overall because it’s a lot harder to load and unload from the trailer.
you should put the folding side try on the side of the added side cabinet, more work surface.
Did you do the swivel castor mod so they all movie easy?
ClientGraphics I did do the swivel caster mod. I really like that mod. I watch your videos. I really like them. Thanks for watching and commenting.
@@BringItMuscleCars with this mod please support the chest otherwise you will have to replace your whole cart
So, they sell a side box for that tool cart that you have to cut up to make it fit?
It’s not made for the tool cart. It’s made to fit on their tool box.
I like the idea of to Jack holder where did you pick it up at?
Johnny 155 I got it from Summit Racing. It worked out great. I’m glad you liked that idea.
Great job! Cannot find that Jack holder on Summit Tools, any chance you could link it?
What magnetic rail did you use for the wrenches on your list?
They were from Lowe’s. They are kobalt brand.
were is your grinder with cut off wheel ?
DO YOU HAVE A LINK FOR THOSE BUMPERS?
You may have doubled the weight carrying capacity of the cart, so the weak link may now be the wheels. Any thoughts of upgrading the wheels and castors?
I had upgraded the wheels. The weak point is actually the side frame and bottom floor. It’s already bent
@@BringItMuscleCars dam 😁
Great, I will be doing the same thing but I cannot find the jack holder? Where did you get it?
Thanks
I bought it from amazon or summit racing. both had them.
What did you use for the jack holder?
I got it off Amazon or SummitRacing. It’s designed to mount in a trailer.
Sheer determination while using metal shears 😂
Good idea for DIYERS
The One thank you. Thanks for watching and commenting.
This is genius!
Thanks
The screwdriver tray would be great with extra holes drilled as you stated to hold T handle hex wrenches.
FYI for those who have powder coat guns or access to one: The RAL 6018 green powder coat from prismatic powders is an exact match to that tool box color.
outdoorzone thanks man. That’s great to know.
Bring It Muscle Cars one other tip is you can take some of that dry powder and mix with MEK (methyl ethyl ketone) and it will turn the powder into a liquid and you can touch up the bare metal where it’s cut and then use a heat gun to cure it.
outdoorzone that’s cool. Just learned another useful fact. Thanks for sharing.
@@outdoorzone Would you happen to know the US General Blue powder color?
@@jeff32689 no sorry! You could try and contact prismatic powder coating online and they may know!!
It you connect the bottom with boit's you can put wheels on the end cabinet
You could also add a caster to the bottom of you addon box if it still gets too heavy. Or if you need the jack.
Thanks red green 👍
Billy Hill thanks for watching it all of the way through.
Can you also re-use the side shelf on the new add on shelf ?
Ive send people mount it to the side of the box.
Bring It Muscle Cars. Is there a way to mount caster wheels on the side box??? ..... great video thank u guys
I liked and subscribed.
Thanks for liking and subscribing. I would say you can mount them underneath but it will take some fab work.
Think I'd just buy the 44in tool chest. Has wheels. Bolt a handle to it. Put your jack holder on the side, done. I just think if you fill that end cabinet full of tools you're gonna run into that thing trying to tip over. But maybe I'm wrong.
Definitely not wrong. And the side cabinet doesn’t hold that much anyway.
