+Keith Birch SO DAMN TRUE!!!!!!! EVERYONE IN MY FRIEND CIRCLE AND FAMILY CAN DO IT BUT I JUST CAN NOT!!!!! UGH!!!!!!! AND NOW I AM SO SAD THAT I DONT WANNA STUDY FOR TMRRW'S EXAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm thinking about giving up on whistling. I've already watched 6 tutorials for whistling and none of them got me anywhere CLOSE to whistling. Thanks for the tutorial anyway ;)
For 50 years now I am trying to learn how to whistle without my fingers. I must say, although it does not sound as good as with fingers, actually it does not sound like anything at all, but still my dog comes. However, he looks at me like he is saying: You got a lot to learn boss!
well after 1 week straight of practicing I was able to get the whistle with both lips, then I was able to learn the one with teeth within 5 minutes and also learn the fingered whistle within 5 minutes. To everybody just keep practicing and you will get it I practiced a week straight about 2 hours a day and was able to get it
+XxBestPrimoxX , That's useful feedback. Two hours a day for a week. That gives me a target. I haven't gotten near that yet, but I'm also trying to learn to juggle (3-balls) and ride a unicycle. I think I'll master the unicycle first, but I'm not sure that I will ever be able to whistle again--I could, once.
I have the sound down. So I can make a decent whistle sound. With volume come with time? If I try to force a little more air for a louder whistle I lose it? Any suggestions?
You can do a really loud almost ultrasonic bat whistle if you do this exact whistle but just use your teeth rather than your bottom lip. To get the higher pitch you also push your tongue up to your teeth a bit more and close your teeth a little bit more. It takes a little bit of extra practice, at first it's just hissing. it's good for doing a really loud bird impersonation or a bat whistle if you want to get some dogs barking
After reading the very few positive comments, I have to believe that videos like this are of little value (if it helped, there would be many comments thanking the author). I've certainly seen my share of videos on the subject, and I also have books and booklets on the subject, but I still can't whistle. There was a time when I could--poorly--but I can't now (so whistling is not the same as riding a bicycle). Anyway, since I could do it before, I have no doubt that I can do it again; it is just a matter of how long it will take. I keep looking for some magical trick, but I think that time, practice, and patience are the only things you can count on. I give myself a week. If I can't relearn the art after practicing for fifteen or so hours, I'll just have to admit defeat. Since I'm also teaching myself to juggle and ride the unicycle, I'll have some success--I hope.
I just can't figure out how to keep my tongue pressed against my teeth AND curl my lower lip. I either end up with my tongue sticking out or not curling up my lip...I just can't figure out how to whistle like that... -_-
Try bringing your bottom lip up around your teeth, then say the word "Thesis". Keep trying till you hear the whistle sound forming, then modify from there.
You probably won't see this comment, but I'm really close to whistling like this, with my lip down instead of my teeth, but I get like a "flapping whistle" and I can't maintain it. What can I do to control the whistle??
Hey, sorry for the late reply! It sounds like you need to work on controlling the flow of air, and keeping the shape tight. Nothing should be flopping or flapping, lol. I hope you were able to figure it out long before now, but if not, I hope this helps!!
Hi SInclair i know how to do it using my toungue folded to the lower part of the mouth but that's not so good as yours. I'm into in learning how to it the same way u do. Do you've got Skype, Whatsapp or any other way that i could show you and get my doubts clear by using video preferencialy live? Any sugestion? Thanks.
well, still unsuccessful, but at least you're the one who explains it the nicest and most gentle! I feel close to getting it, but still not there. AGHH!!!
Question: do you sort of roll the tip of your tongue below the bottom teeth? Another question is what's the back of your tongue doing? Do you try to keep it low or high?
A bit, yeah. The tip of your tongue is sort of pressed against your bottom lip which is pulled tight across the teeth. I don't pay much attention to the back of my tongue, but in order to form the right shape it front, you definitely can't have the back high. Don't focus on the back so much as the front. Hope that helps!
Thanks for the reply! Is there a gap in between the tip of the tongue and the bottom teeth (and the bottom lips), or is the tongue pressed tightly against the teeth?
haha good memories i remember watching this a year ago trying to learn. Didnt take long to learn tho, when i saw the vid only like a week of practicing
so where does the tip of your tongue touch when you're whistling and making the v? is it resting on your bottom lip? between your bottom lip and teeth? Is it behind your lower teeth? I feel I'm very close. I went to the mirror and i seem to be making a similar face shape to you, but not making a whistle. My tongue is going mental trying to get it, but it's not sure where it's supposed to sit. Any further advice?
Hey Cormac, this is a very unflattering picture, but it shows you exactly how and where my tongue shapes. It's between the lower lip (which is curled over my bottom teeth), and my upper teeth. You really have to bring your tongue forward and allow only a small space for the air to pass. Try to press the sides of your tongue forward, not just the tip. link -> i.imgur.com/9dZIBkt.jpg Best of luck!
I know you won't read this because this is 7 years ago but, the hardest thing is to press the lips down and have the tounge press against the teeth on top at the same time. Only trying the first day though
@@slimeagedon5147 Just close your mouth a little more and stick your tongue a little more forward. Keep your tongue soft, and let the remember that you aren't touching your top teeth with the tip of your tongue, just the sides. The middle of your tongue needs to make that valley where the air passes through.
Been trying this for about 5 minutes now, only getting a soft whistle unfortunately.. I can do it great and very loud with fingers and only use it if someones really far away. Besides that I can do a normal musical whistle pretty good, even whistling songs on note :-) My friends always ask me how I do that..I'm not sure actually, I use the air in my throat to lay down the notes and vibrations , bit like with singing. I want to learn this too offcourse, never really bothered, but shouldn't be too hard for me over some time, thanks for explaining!
I learned how to whistle loudly with my upper lip, but I can't manage whistle loudly using my teeth, and it's not very comfortable this way since as you described it, it's a lot harder to do! It just makes me whine like a baby because I can't learn the easy way but the hard way I can.
Try this. Do the same instructions for your bottom lip. Bring the jaw forward and curl the lip over tight. Then, also bring your top lip and curl it over your teeth, tight. Then, just sort of stick your tongue out, just barely. Now try blowing. With any luck, you'll get just a LITTLE whistle sound going. If you do, let me know. I hope this helps (:
Try doing the "basic" whistle, in that case. What you do is you stick your lips straight out like you're going to kiss someone. Exaggerate this and really push them out. Then, blow air through your lips. The breathing has to come from your lungs (not your cheeks). Also, your cheeks should not inflate. Focus the air and feel it pass through your lips. Finally, adjust your lips back and forth just a little and eventually you'll get a whistle!
I didn't watch the video, but it's just like that: Blow all the time in different angles and at some point you will hear a tone. I just did it all the time all day long and after 1 week I was able to pretty perfectly whistle
swaminathan savukanthiga idk, i dont have it perfect but its working lol... just follow what he does exactly. also i knew how to do it with my fingers, and really loud too, before this

I was planning on replying as soon as I was able to do it, but I haven't had any luck so far. I can't seem to make the shape between my tongue and upper teeth. Or maybe it's something else. I don't know. Maybe that other method would help. :->
