DrGreener: I have succeded in loud whistling! Been practicing for a day to get the first sound. When I got it, began fine-tuning it for a week. Then adjusted the pitch and volume. Now i'm a pro at it! Thank you, this is probably the best thing I've learnt at RUclips since solving Rubik's Cube.
Omg this is so hard lol. When you breath out are you making a shh motion breathing out or a haaa motion breathing out or a thhh. Does it matter what shape your tounge is. Mine is like a triangle at the tip not round. Also how do you get your tounge to sit flat in your mouth. Mine always wants to raise up to the oof of my mouth and not make that curve you talk about. Thanks.
Not sure if it would interfere. I think anything might interfere, it is pretty tricky. Why don't you put some paper in the space and see if you can get it that way. I notice that there is a little air leakage in my teeth near the top, so a little seems OK. Actually I don't think a gap is a problem because to do a low pitched whistle, it only takes a light air flow, so you would just have to blow that much harder to compensate for the air loss in the gap.
Should the tip of the tounge be placed behind the lower teeth or in front of them. Like between lower lip and lower teeth. (Sorry for my bad english, hope you understand)
um does your jaw get like stuck forward? or when your muscles relax does it fall back into it's normal place? just asking because my braces fixed my teeth lol and i don't want to ruin that...and yes embrasure is the correct word
Dentures should not affect whistling at all since I can whistle with various objects in my mouth not really sure how that changes things. The important thing is to get your tongue in the right place over your bottom lip, creating a v-shaped gap with your upper teeth. Equally important is to keep your tongue away from the roof of your mouth to create a chamber where the air can swirl before exiting your mouth. The size of the chamber and force of the air of will affect the pitch/volume.
Your tongue definitely has to be touching your bottom lip. There can't be a break in the air flow or you won't get a whistle as it would create a second cavity between your tongue and bottom lip. The air should flow across the tongue/lip continuum (just made that up) unimpeded as though it was one.
thx man...i have only one problem i cant get that loud whistle because only some of the air coming out of my mouth is creating the whistling sound...if u have some advice i would be greatfull
tongue should touch all along your teeth, except right in the front where you make a little notch by folding your tongue a little. The air escapes through the notch and over your bottom lip making the whistle. Look at any whistle and you will see some kind of bevel shape. That's what you create with your tongue
It shouldn't get stuck forward. To do a soft whistle you shouldn't have to push your jaw too far forward. Only for the extremely loud whistle does it need to be forward to create enough tension on your bottom lip. I don't provide dental insurance however, lol
I think so since it is really what is happening between your tongue and bottom edge of your upper teeth and also the air passing over your bottom lip. So long as the braces don't interfere too much with the air flow, it should work. Email me with questions if you want
I can't seem to bend my tongue the required way. Like how you have the edges of your tongue touch your teeth but there is a gap/valley in the middle. In fact, I can't seem to consciously force my tongue into any position =\. Maybe it's just lack of practice.
I would have to say that I can go consistently louder with the fingered whistle since I can hold it more easily. I can hit pretty much the same volume without fingers but more sporadically.
think of making the 'th' sound but instead of it being completely flat, you create a little notch by folding your tongue slightly. My other vids have some closer shots which should help. Post a vid and I can comment on your technique
tongue sits directly below and touching your upper teeth like you are making a "th" sound, but you create a little 'v' notch where the air escapes by folding your tongue at the exit point.
maybe i'm doing it wrong but i get a sound when it doesn't touch and when it touches i get nothing but air...lol i'll just keep practicing!!! i'll figure it out
I know its been several months of me trying to get this. maybe as much as 6 months, but I dont have it, yet I try continually. sometimes I get a low type whistle but when I add some more air, it seems to escape through a space in my two front teeth. the space isn't at the bottom of the teeth, but up at the gum area and it gives off a hissing sound and the whistle dies. kill me someone.
man..!, thaks so much :p i can wistle in everywhy(even hindu wisle my azu teach me),, but i never maneged to wistel with no fingers. *ill keep trying until ill get it(:cause its realy hard

You made me smile… I have the low key whistle down pat, (for 2 years now) but battling with the loud shrill. Will keep going 😅

you're welcome. It's exciting to hear that it's working for people. Post a vid of your whistle if you can!

clearest tutorial on youtube.. i'm still trying to get it but yours has helped loads.. thanks man, liked =)
Thanks a lot for this man! Finally after 4 days of practice and trial and error i got the trick of it, it's pretty loud ;)
sorry another question...is your tongue touching your bottom lip or is that going to have a major effect on my whistle?
@dgreener1 i have a feint whisle sound doing this. if i keep doing it, will it eventually turn into a full loud whistle?
Your tongue definitely has to be touching your bottom lip. There can't be a break in the air flow or you won't get a whistle as it would create a second cavity between your tongue and bottom lip. The air should flow across the tongue/lip continuum (just made that up) unimpeded as though it was one.
is there suppose to be a little cavity under the tip of the tongue????????
Awesome, way to go. Four days is fast. It will get better and better.

Does it work with Tounge Piercing o.o?

oh, am i right to say that the tongue is sandwiched in between the upper teeth and lower lip?
I got a underbite so it gets a bit harder for me, any tips? i just get a wind sound :/
tongue rests against bottom lip. They need to touch so the airflow doesn't get interrupted.
No, he uses both lips in his whistle, covering his teeth. I find that one harder, but it's pretty much the same thing.
It shouldn't get stuck forward. To do a soft whistle you shouldn't have to push your jaw too far forward. Only for the extremely loud whistle does it need to be forward to create enough tension on your bottom lip. I don't provide dental insurance however, lol
I'm just going to leave a commentless comment without a comment
Your facial expression is priceless.

@125meadowbrook Redundant title brings more viewers with different search terms.
and great tutorial by the way

I keep trying but my lip piercings are in the way... not nice.
And i cant manage to get more out of it then a wind sound
Just practice. There's a whistle in everyone! Took me literally a couple of years because I didn't have a tutor. You'll get it in no time.
can u do a video for me to show how to place your tounge that is the only bit i cant do
tongue sits directly below and touching your upper teeth like you are making a "th" sound, but you create a little 'v' notch where the air escapes by folding your tongue at the exit point.
I still don't have it, but I enjoyed your video.
I'm drooling a lot...
Where does the tip of ur tung need to go?
maybe i'm doing it wrong but i get a sound when it doesn't touch and when it touches i get nothing but air...lol i'll just keep practicing!!! i'll figure it out

lol, you remind me of a couple of my music teachers.
haha the title is "loud fingerless whistle WITHOUT FINGERS!" like we didn't know it didn't require fingers
it should be easier because you have to create an underbite for the technique to work.
well i don't got underbite so much anymore actually, i got my traintracks off some months ago (braces)
not sure exactly what you mean. If you can post vid, I can comment
