Emily was such a nice character. The writers unnecessarily turned her into a villain.
Actually the actress was pregnant and could not continue shooting in LA , that's why they had to remove her from the show . Otherwise Ross and Rachel would hv ended up with different people .

@@Crochetique424 Except this is not true at all, I've seen this gossip spread online, but it's not true. Emily was supposed to stay longer according to the original plans, yes, but she was never meant to stay until the end of the show. In the interview I read, the writers said Ross and Rachel would have end up together anyway, one way or the other.

Although, if the writers had *not* spent half a season on Ross and Rachel making each other miserable, and then, forcing him to move on from Rachel's character enough to marry someone else, we could have seen more of him and Emily as a couple. At least making more sense as a "rebound" within that successful Sitcom formula. You know, for Ross and Rachel to organically and meaningfully reunite at a late date.

Ross and emily didn't have a toxic relationship ( there was no hint of that while they were dating) writers thought that making Emily toxic was a great idea to finish what vould have been the best couple on the show.
@@dertree4187 I'm not talking about the writers and how they wrote her. Yes, they wrote her into a toxic character. I am not talking about when they were dating, but after when they were married. In the show, like you said, she became toxic. This all happened after Ross said the wrong name at the altar. She then grew toxic because of what she was making Ross give up. People often have their reasons for why they brcome toxic. Emily, just like my ex, became toxic when she became insecure and no longer trusted that her partner was going to stay loyal. So instead of working on trust, talking through their issues in a healthy way, or just ebding it, Emily became toxic because instead of working things out in a healthy way, she gave Ross an ultimatum as a way to control him. This is toxic.
Besides, they ruined nothing brcause thry planned to get Ross and Rachel back together anyway and honestly, the way things panned out all makes sense. Ross and Emily jumped into marriage way too fast and because of that, Ross didn't have a lot of time to move on from Rachel and fall deeper in love with Emily. In addition, Ross didn't have that time to see the ugly traits of Emily come out, such as her jealousy for Rachel and her insecurities with trusting Ross and her need to pull Ross away from his friends without any regard for his true feelings or asking what he wanted. If they didn't rush into marriage, they may have come out somewhere down the road, and Ross could have then seen it and broken up with her before going through another divorce. Or maybe it would come out even later, when Ross had more time to realize that Rmily was the person he wanted to be with.
All and all, the writers actually did a fantastic job of wrapping up Emily's story earlier. I think the way they made her toxic is actually so important so prople can watch and maybe learn from it, and see how a nice relationship can turn ugly because of one person's insecurities and attempts to control their partner.

I loved Emily's character. She really did nothing wrong. Too bad she had conflicts in schedule which didn't allow her to continue on the show.

Ross was so much more attentive to Emily than any other woman he dated on the show, that's what makes the demise of their relationship so sad, I always got the feeling he would not have flown to Paris to get Rachel back.
Exacly , what happened to Ross and Emily was just another ploy by the writers and creators that Ross and Rachel were the "endgame" of the series , to make the series have an audience and more success they used Ross and Rachel , even if that let the relationship and the characters toxic , immatures , massive and irritating.

He left New York City and went to London to say he loved her and wanted to be with her , that is for sure the biggest romantic thing he have done , even more than the "prom video" , and let's be honest here , Rachel only dated him because of a that videotape and she feels bad for him and she forgot him for the list he made , Ross and Rachel were made for the audience throughout the series and their relationship gets toxic and dull for both of them.

Adreed. She was out of line in the end due to severe trust issues - and who wouldn't have trust issues after all that? Once she realized they could not make their marriage work on those conditions she called it quits, I really don't blame her.
Well first of all, I wouldn't have said "I do" after that.
Second of all, I would have broken it off if I lost trust in him, or at least do what Rachel did - a break. Give Ross freedom to decide what he wants instead of making him cling on desperately and then setting up unrealistic rules that could have shattered his entire friends group. I'm sorry, but friends always come before relationships that happen as quickly as Ross and Emily's progressed, and nobody should ever agree to sacrifoce their friends - ex or not - for a toxic and insecure person as Emily became. Her jealousy and insecurity was reasonable, but not her actions or demands because of it. This is talking from experience of being in Ross' shoes (not exactly the same form of "cheating" but you know)

Toblerone is probably a really hard candy bar to find in the states at least not easy to get so Joey definitely wanted that candy bar way more than just say a Snickers or Milky Way bar.
When ross first said "I love you", Emily replied with "Thank you", and it made no sense, and now when Emily proposed with "I love you", Ross replies "Thank you", but here it actually makes sense, he undertook all the trouble and was waiting for her at her doorstep in a snowy night in London. The writers are geniuses.

I actually felt really bad for Emily. She loved Ross and he was the one who suggested marriage so early on in their relationship and she said yes but then he ruined it and Emily turned weird.
Emily didn't turn weird, she did what most people would do : telling the spouse to cut the obsessive ex off ; she also didn't want to sleep in the same furniture Ross and Rachel had sex in ( pretty regular demand ), Ross demanded for her to leave her family, friends, job everything to move in with him ; so she wanted to see if Ross would do the same for her .. well , the friends took an issue with it and called Emily crazy( even though, they were fine with leaving behind their own family and friends when they got married).
Emily was the best! Always nice to all of them. But they weren't equally nice to her. It was never Emily's fault. Never.
Actually when was emily nice to them? She always ignored amd rude to all of them but ross...
They all arranged a farewell for her (ya..ya... For joshua)... But she was so damn care...

Emily was sharp minded, very clear thinking, all so called friends feel much respect for her, she didn't let them play games with her, she valued her time and dignity. Ross couldn't handle this relationship, he was to immature for her.

@True Indian I hate to break it to you, but Helen Blaxendale had not much do with the production of season 4 and how season 5 was going to be involved with that.
Ross was going to "marry" in the season 4 finale. regardless of Helen Blaxendale being pregnant or not. Because, it was already planned by the Producers of Friends during the 1997 summer hiatus. Writing Ross and Rachel to make each other miserable during the 1st half of season 4, the writers were wasting valuable time, creativity and energy to explore Ross and Emily's relationship enough for the Proposal/Marriage to make sense.

Did you watch the whole series or just blabbing with what you have heard others talking? He did not choose to be with Rachel till the very end. He never wanted to get back with her till the last few episodes till then they have accepted at multiple occasions that they aren't into each other (eg like with Mona). And he went on to marry Emily (I know he screwed that up too but not because he loved Rachel he was just overwhelmed to see her at his wedding and misspoke). Plus he gave it all to make that marriage work and did not choose Rachel as a lover but as a friend and important part of his life when he eventually ended his marriage with Emily
@The Dude We get what you mean. Especially, after Rachel was so horrible to Ross in the 1st half of season 4, and then, drooling all over Joshua purely to make him jealous. That was one of the few major disappointments you have with season 4. Because, although Phoebe's Surrogacy was great ..... Rachel was just written more selfish and self-absorbing than the need to be.
I think it's not just Emily but even Mona were really good matches for Ross. I think they Ross and Rachael should have just remained on a break.

Emily wasn't a 'bad' character. She was understandably hurt and angry with Ross. What she shouldn't have done though is take it out on his friends with the demands.
She should called it off completely and not given Ross another chance.
