I broke my nose on a bicycle accident in my early teens that lead to a deviated septum, which lead to many years of mouth breathing. I've spent over $25,000 on braces and jaw operations since then, oh how I wish someone showed me this video back then!
@@baran39392 I had to correct an underbite, and I still have a bit of TMJ in my jaw joints. Hooked noses aren’t always a sign of mouth breathing. It can be genetic as well. Roman noses and middle eastern noses are usually slightly bent. I have good facial growth and forward jaws, And I’ve always been a nose breather. But my nose has a slight bump below my eyes. Since I have Italian ancestry...
@dany ay lol Yes, there’s many models with a bump on their nose. There’s also many recessed people with relatively straight noses… However since I started seeing many improvements thanks to Mewing. My nose has evened out and became more “balanced” or more symmetrical. But the bump is still there lol. My cheekbones also sprouted from my face drastically. Hope I can continue to see improvements. Hope you are seeing improvements too…
As a mouth breather, it's the shape of the face together with the nose that signals mouth breathing. Mouth breathers tend to have triangular side profiles with the nose being the thing that mostly sticks out whereas the entire lower face is receding gradually. Also the face tends to be long and lacks good cheekbone definition and the eyes are droopy
My recommendation for anyone that is a mouth breather is to buy some medical tape of Amazon and every night before bed tape your mouth closed, may sound strange but after a week or two you will start to realize how much better your sleep is getting + you will start to see a difference in your jawline and upper neck area.
This is true, I have great face development as a kid and baby but allergies in my environment and soft foods narrowed my face and caused me to breathe mouth breathe most of my childhood and teenage years. I developed acne, long face, and congestion. Thank god I discovered mewing a few years ago. My face is getting better, no longer have allergies, and no more congestion.
So mewing is necessary while nose breathing because many people are not aware about tongue posture who nose breath because my mom is a nose breather and when I asked her about the tongue keeping on the roof she dint knew about it but still she has a symmetrical face so I am really confused now
That's why they have go to the doctor to get treated. They have also probably agreed to share their pictures as showstudy for educational reasons. So i don't think that would be any shaming for them.
I don’t think dorsal humps or large noses are only mouth breathing. I mean look at Samantha- a mouth breather but with a small nose. I know several guys who mouth breathe and have short chins and flat cheek areas but smaller noses then me. I had biobloc treatment when a child and stopped mouth breathing young but still got a big nose. My grandpa had a HUGE nose but was a nose breather and had a perfect square jaw. my God! why nobody told me that 10 yrs ago? My teeth started crooking and the doctors were like "dunno why, you have anough place in your jaw, but they just climb on one another". Did you get teeth removed? Still have quite narrow palates? If you find in the future you think this is causing you health issues and or limitations you should seek a 'holistic' or functional orthodontist. The general orthodontic system is broken, it focuses on nothing but aesthetics and disregards the potential health and well being implications of jaw, mouth and facial structure. A functional orthodontist can use a simple light wire palatal expansion device to widen your palates/jaw properly, which can have all kinds of potential benefits for some people, not to mention improvement in your facial structure and how you will age.
Hi @kannadabooktuber2549, There may be some slight change, but at 29, there is not likely to be much change in facial structure at all. The vast majority of craniofacial development happens in the early years of life from childhood to the teenage years. Hope that helps. Kind regards, Ronan
@@OxygenAdvantage has your facial structure changed after widening the jaw? How long did it take? We’re you a mouth breather, and if so, until which age? Thank you.
Hi @@stefpix I was a mouth breather but only found out about the face changing aspects of mouth breathing in my 30s. Most face changes happen in childhood so it's probably too late to make much change in adulthood, though certain devices can be purchased to try and gradually extend the palate. Hope that helped.
what about breathing with the back of the mouth closed versus breathing with the back of the mouth open? When i breathe, i can feel some air whooshing around inside my mouth because the back of my mouth seems to want to stay open, but i can quite easily put some effort into keeping "both ends" of my mouth closed. Thoughts, anyone?
I used to have the same issue. When trying to breathe through my nose, the breathe I take would still go in my mouth first and only after that it would travel down. Never thought I was a mouthbreather but I realized my jaw was dropping down whenever I tried to sleep. Luckily after keeping my mouth shut and my tongue on the roof of my mouth gently pressuring the palate for about a month, I was able to breathe through my nose with no airflow in my mouth whatsoever. So, close your mouth, put that tongue on the roof of your mouth and stay consistent about it. Reset your past behaviour by deeply breathing into your belly. Activate that rest mode instead of fight/flight. Do not resist against it in order to make it a new habit. Good luck.
This is why the tongue needs to be on the roof of the mouth. It blocks the rear of the mouth so that air travels from the nasal passage directly down to the lungs.
@@JusTaHoLy I keep the back lf my throught closed but the tip of my toungue stays relaxed. Would you recommend that the tip of .y toungue touch the roof of my mouth as well?
What he should be doing it comparing those teenagers faces to the mother and the father and researching if the parents were in fact mouth or nose breathers. Point being most of this is genetic and you would find that out through look at and studying the parents. No amount of nose breathing was ever gonna make the 5 yrs boy with the shallow jaw classically handsome. And Dave the boy with the nice face when younger is mostly do to genetics and a poor diet.
