Breaking a Gibson Guitar Headstock... it's way harder than I thought.

- Everyone talks about how easily the Gibson Les Paul headstocks break... I'm guessing they haven't actually tried to do it. This guitar took a beating.
Plot twist: It's a Chibson
Correctomundo!
I hope so!!!!!

😂
Neck twist.. its a chibson
“Heavy Relic’d 59 reissue. Original Cherry sunburst, 1 owner. No lowballs! I know what i have. 15k firm.”
Good luck.😅
Yeah, how about kiss my ass?
Nailed it…people really do put up ads like this🤣
Owned by Jimmy Page. Small repair done. Reduced to $375,000.00
Bwahahaaaa 😂🤣🤪
PLOT TWIST: Now the G string stays flawlessly in tune.
You're doing it wrong. Need to lean it on an amp, and observe as it slides to the floor in slow motion. You're welcome.
You need to turn around to speak to the drummer and allow the headstock to lightly come into contact with a mic stand.
Watching this hurts
You know it. Why did he do that?
So THATS what the airport guys are doing that takes so long. Doing kick flips with my fucking gear!!!
YUP LMAO
It shows the airport guys are putting forth the extra effort to earn their paychecks. Breaking your guitar takes real work.
The only thing this video does is help validate the purchase of a good Chibson 🤘🏻😎
Chibsons might just sell out now nice! Lol
That's a Chibson
Yes, you can tell by the ugly green sticking out tuners.
Thank God
clearly, not a real Gibson. The headstock is too sturdy
Clearly you don't own a Gibson and spend all your time in guitar forums whining about guitars you can't afford.

While gigging in San Francisco, a band who was billed before us was setting up. And the band's guitar player was bragging all night that he "only played Gibsons".
He was a rich kid- about 21 years old and was a mediocre guitar player if anything.
Of course, he is setting up his restored 1959 Marshall Plexi half stack (mind you, we were in a small club) and he had a Les Paul Custom with wireless receiver connected from that guitar to his Marshall (along with unnecessary compressors, exciters, etc). He went to the bar with his girlfriend and left his $3,700 (at the time) guitar leaning against a tour case with casters.
Well, his drummer was setting up for his set, and he bumped the case and th5e Les Paul fell and went *CRACK*. The headstock cracked almost completely. It was literally hanging by a piece of wood grain. This happened 2 yards in front of me. The guitarist ran to the stage and tried to pin the guitar falling and breaking on me, his drummer, and another spectator. The club owner saw and told him that it was his fault that he put his expensive guitar, that he shouldn't even be playing in the first place, against a case with casters.
The guitarist started flipping out, crying like a toddler and hyperventilating. He said that "his dad was going to kill him" and things of that nature. I asked him, "so it's your dad's guitar?" And he said, "everything here is my dad's". Lol.
My point is that the guitar didn't even look like it fell hard. Instead, it fell at the perfect angle and it almost snapped clean off.
lesson - don't gig with expensive guitars. Get a cheaper Les Paul instead, something like Epiphone, PRS or LTD.
@@williamtm1965or just keep it in the case at all times. Only take it out to play, practice, tune
I had a GF who’s dog knocked down a really. Nice ES-335 and destroy the joint right at the nut where it couldn’t be repaired
Wah
Hey Ludwig just wondering where you were playing in San Francisco not really a reply on the actual comment but just curious in the 80s that I was living in San Francisco in the western addition and I was a professional drummer at the time and yeah I'm just curious what what the venue you were playing at my first gig out there was in a place called mabuhay gardens which I know closed down a while ago quite a while ago but also you know whenever there was a new set we play at Chi-Chi's also played a couple of times at a place that is also defunct on the upper head it was called a tiny little wine and beer bar called a the night break played once at another place that's the funk now also on the upper head call the I-beam and divisadero Street place called the best club visual other places to those are just a few that come to mind so yeah and one other thing actually has to do with the comment I don't think anyone can tell somebody I should tell somebody that that's not a guitar that should have brought to a gig I don't think it's anyone's business or anything to tell anybody what guitar they can play that again unless it's of course evidence in a murder in which case probably not too wise to bring to a gig you know I had drums like that because people always said my drum and killed them so LOL bad joke I know sincerely to read Raphael AKA Bob the blind bedroom guitarist
The secret is: it's a chibson 😂
Isn't it hilarious that every guitar player that watches this immediately knows it's not a real Gibson right after the first drop the headstock doesn't fly off like a Russian nuclear icbm at the U.S.?
I saw a video of a green day member smashing his Gibson LP Custom on stage and the ONLY thing to break was the headstock.
First of all THAT IS NOT A GIBSON. Second of all, it likely has a scarf joint which makes it much stronger.
Why do you say it isn’t a Gibson?
After watching a few more times, I see now it is a chibson - fake Gibson, the green tuners give it away
spot on.
@@josephbest7610 It would have broken on the first drop.
Ur right, i thought it was the lighting, but yah, theyre not green like that. I was wondering why he wouldn't take the green keys and bridge and etc before destroying the body. @josephbest7610
Well…it’s only proving that the “chibson’ can take a beating 🤣
Kind of says a Chibson is sturdier than a Gibson. 😂
That’s a nice Chibson
But yes all Les Paul style guitars are known for headstocks snapping
This one however isn’t a Gibson and the neck angle isn’t the same as well as there being few strings and no tension on the ones that are there
Main giveaway is Gibson don't use scarf joints on their necks, this guitar clearly had a scarf joint and it also shows they used poor quality glue since the scarf cut clean when it snapped.......CHIBSON certified
@@nicolashrvthis broke nowhere near any glued joint. The neck snapped where it was impacted, near the 7th to 8th fret and where it's the least stable, at the truss rod channel. The uppermost third of the neck including the fretboard managed to flex and not break or separate. From there, fracturing propagated along the wood grain in both directions and surfaced near the scarf joint, where the strain was much higher because flex was prevented due to the abruptly changed orientation of the grain. In other words, the headstock didn't snap nor was it otherwise involved in the damage other than providing the ground glearance for the neck to exceed its flexural modulus when the bloke was jumping on top of it.
One tough chibson
I'm glad to see that I just ordered a few of these. They are getting better and better. Replace the tuners and drop in a hundred dollar pre wired harness with splittable coils and it's as good or better than any Gibson and costs a fraction of what they ask for a gib in the states.
Got me a Explorer style Koa Chibson which plays awesome . 2 piece body but with a Strat mensur . FAT neck . Seymour Duncan '59 and Gibson mini humbucker from 1970 in the neck position. Rewired . Glad I have it
This hurt.
It's a chibson
Felt fine to me
Even then it was the neck that snapped, not the headstock
Not a Gibson, but a Chibson. This had a scarf joint. The video only proven chinese replicas are even better than the original gibsons!
Watching cheap sneakers jump on expensive guitars is pretty rock'n'roll ngl.
I'm pretty sure that's not an expensive guitar
This is stupid, wasteful and did I mention STUPID (AND OFFENSIVE)?
that proves Chibson's headstock is better than Gibby's
If it were a Gibson with the true headstock angle it would have broke before it hit the ground!! Norms new guitar of the day!!!
Man this was just painful to watch🤣 no offense to your efforts l but I’m still gonna pamper mine😂
looks like it has a scarf joint so its not a real gibson. might be an epiphone but the reason gibsons necks are very breakable is because they dont have a scarf joint.
Where does it look like a scarf joint?
The grain clearly is parallel all the way along the neck and through the headstock.
❌ Not a scarf joint.
@@creamwobbly you are right. it looked like a scarf join because there was a scratch along what would normally be where the scarf joint is. i still think the necks should have a scarf joints if its a pitched headstock
@@briantopps5638 this is a chibson......watch the plastic nut, the horrible green color tuner heads, the blue trussrod.......also notice the headstock is not straight (when he first starts to put his leg on it)......
Sir Max donating the body for scientific research At Normans is most honorable!🙏 🎖 🤘☮
Max is too cheap to sacrifice a real Gibson
I recently lost every instrument I owned in a house fire, watching this guy abuse any guitar is sickening
Womp womp
Is a chibson, relax all good
wtf!!!! dude stop doing that!!!!!!!!!
his guitar, his money, he can do whatever the fuck he wants bro
You're dropping it the wrong way. Fretboard down does the trick every time.
Man you broke my heart doing that! If you want to do it again please don't do it just remember me I'll be very happy if you donate it to me!😢
I always thought the breaks happen when it falls face forward.
I broke one guitar by accident, this was like nails on chalk board watching him jump around on it.
Bro everyone remembers your video where you were grinding off the logos because you were supposedly "getting rid of your Chibson's" no matter how hard you try you're just an advertisement for Chibson lol... Though you didn't have a stand to set it on and just kind of let it tilt sideways and hit the ground sideways 🤔🤷🏻 you know emulating the "To drunk to get it on the stand move"...
@@markpell8979 yeah I agree really anybody who can afford a Gibson them by want to buy Chibson can't really afford to shell out three grand for a guitar
I love shit like this. I used to be obsessed with bolt ons for fear of the neck breaking. Never changed the neck on any of my guitars and now I own a SG.
I don't know why I kept watching, but this made me sick to my stomach watching.
Same Man Same.
Classic. Drop off at Norms.
Good advert for Chibson !
No way he did that to a Gibson costing thousands hahaa. They break extremely easy. I know as customers have told me how it actually broke. Very bad design
Definitely a Chibson. No nibs and the thin truss rod cover give it away.
That being said, I've dropped two Gibson Les Paul's from about waist height, due to not having strap locks.
Only damage was a scuff on one that went away shortly after, and a broken tuner on the other.
The main giveaway is that neck had a scarf joint.....gibson should pay attention to this video and changer their effin desing once for all.
I hope this was a Chibson!
Could have donated it to me
I cannot watch this!?😮 This is going to give me nightmares!? STOP IT!?!
1) It looks almost as if this neck finally separated along a scarf joint. Gibsons typically don’t use scarf joints, so I don’t think this is a typical Gibson headstock failure mode. 2) I notice you didn’t have all the strings on the guitar. Having tension on the neck makes a big difference.
This is 100% a chibson....just watch the plastic nut, + the blue truss rod, and the scarf joint, + the horrible green plastic tuner heads.
Thats not a scarf joint.
This hurt my soul 😂
Gibson fed
I broke a MARTIN D28 headstock with one simple fallover.
That's not a gibson
yeah. no nubs. fakery bro
Dude, not cool...
Bro why would you do that.
He has like 900 guitars. Why not?
The nut is also not a Gibson nut shape. The truss rod cover is not Gibson (even wrong screws). The tuners are wrong. The headstock is wrong shape. No nibs. Not a Gibson and the wood is not mahogany. C'mon GuitarMax, you make better content than that.
even Nigel Tufnel understood you don't even point at a Gibson, otherwise they snap.... that's another maker, no way is that a brittle Gibson...
I had a nice Gibson Flying V and it fell over and snapped the head off. A little wood glue restored it to working condition but still sucked.
There are two kinds of Gibsons: ones with broken headstock and ones with headstock that are going to break.
I have owned hundreds of guitars and never had a broken headstock on any.
@@SKRooU2 Gibsons?
@@7007matthew of course not, he said they never broke
"Hey man. I just bought this Lamborghini last week and it's defective and I want a refund!"
"Really? What seems to be the problem?"
"I crashed it into a telephone pole and now it's all broke and shit!"
the break usually happens when the guitar falls face first and a "shock" hits the nut. Counterintuitive I know, but that's how it happens.
I've only ever owned one Gibson (a Les Paul Studio, which is not enough $$$ that some other Gibson owners won't give me sh** about it). It's been solid for 21 years. I guess I need to pay more for the 'detachable head' option. 🤔
I'll just say it, this things more resiliant than a real gibson. ill be living that Chibson life all day everyday. I dont play as good as the dudes that made the real gibsons famous, and neither do you, even if you had a real gibson in your hand. That dosnt make you a better player. Practice does. I just want the look, and thats what these give.
So reprehensible. This type of “content creator” shouldn’t exist.
You should get out of the house more.
On the one hand, I'm heartbroken.
On the other, I'm happy to see my dream guitar is more invincible than I originally thought.
First put all the strings on so its under the proper string tension and let it fall back on a ceramic tile or cement based floor. Pavement has quite a bit of forgiveness surprisingly enough. NO ! Don't do that, watching this video was painful enough. Yes some do break easier than others, depending on which headstock angle gibson used, the neck (a 54 reissue baseball bat thick neck is harder to break than a 60's slim C). Plus a good number of times seeing broken headstocks someone got twisted up with the guitar and tripped with it, usually a cord involved). Believe me seen more than my share needing repairs.
That's not a Gibson, buddy. A Gibson does not have a 2-way truss rod wrapped in blue shrink wrap.
Fun video. In over 40 years playing, I've seen a number of broken Gibson headstocks. In the same time I have never seen a broken headstock on a fender, and I've been around way more Fenders and many were abused. Saying that, I have seen a couple fenders where the skunk stripe needed to be reglued.
All the clowns freaking out in the comment section, hahaha. Relax people, this was a Chibson that was covered in lead contamination. He's shown this guitar in past videos, and it needed to be put out of its misery.
I don’t know what caused it to happen, but a j45 I had hanging on the wall for years fell about 4 feet onto a soft rug and snapped the headstock at the truss rod cavity. Never figured out why the hanger came off the wall. It was in the drywall with those plastic expansion things and they pulled out. I wasn’t there when it happened so I have no clue what happened. Only thing I can figure is the dogs were and he jumped on the desk and then jumped to the wall of guitars. That’s very unlikely though. But all that to snap that Chibson, and it didn’t even snap at the headstock. Yet some
people say Chibsons aren’t built well and use junk wood. I think this proves that wrong. Unless good wood and craftsmanship makes things more delicate
What did that obvious Chibson with snot green tuners and a scarf joint neck do to deserve being sacrificed under false pretenses?
my drummer knocked over an arctic white anniversary les paul and snapped the headstock.
Sideways torque on the joint, yeah that'll do it!
LOL how come drummers are always the one to kill guitars its like its in theyre blood
Why did you buy it in the first place, if you're so much against those Chibsons? You're keeping those counterfeits alive by doing so! But then again, you're youtuber, you'll do anything for clicks and likes, right? ;) I call that hypocrite...
If it were a real Gibson it would have screamed and fell apart as soon you looked at the headstock. Gotta hand it to China on this one. For $300 you can get a replica that's 75x stronger than the $5000 US counterpart.
It's a maple neck and not mahogany which is why it's not breaking. Mahogany is a softer wood typically used in Gibson necks and that's why they break.
The way it eventually broke suggests a two piece neck with a scarf joint. That’s not the U&C Gibson way of building a guitar and also suggests that wasn’t a genuine Gibson…excuse me…an Authentic Gibson. 😉
I'm just learning to play guitar. I bought a Schecter Apocalypse with a "5-piece"(?) laminated neck to avoid this problem. It cost me $1,000 used but I guess it's worth it! 😂
Chibsons are amazingly well constructed. 😅 I know how fragile Gibsons are, strap button slip and its off to the luthiers.
Not everyone is build equal (measurements, fibre direction, wood). So this is not representative at all. You show a sturdy, very resilient Gibson or whatever, this is all that your video shows.
It’s probably much stronger because it’s made in Mexico or China. If is were an American Gibson, it would have broken rather quickly. Lol
Seen it twice...angled headstock broke. Just falling off a stand.
Okay, get doing a vid like this for views, and maybe info.. but why the fuxk didnt he take the greenkeys, bridge, humbuckers, etc?? Seeing those green keys getting stomped on made me cry!
Most are broken in the case, shipper etc etc sets the bottom of the box down and lets it fall over whiplashing the headstock as it hangs free in the case ! Cases are great but don't support the headstock..
Owned by Jimmy Page. Small invisible repair done. On sale for $375,000.00
Maybe that's how Gibson should ship them... Apparently once you put them in a Gibson case and then a Gibson box, they lose all structural integrity at the nut.
my former band mate broke his Flying V Gibson Headstock because it accidently landed on the floor. but i heard gibson had a massive problem with their woods at certain charges

Yep I'm pretty sure.
I fucking died a little
@@doknoxlol chill bruh
And yet I watched my friend's cat knock over his Custom Shop in a guitar stand and off came the headstock upon hitting the floor...
It's a Chibson with a much shallow headstock angle first of all. A real Gibson would have snapped on the first drop.
that aint a gibson, one drop off a stand (on deep pile carpet)and my les paul custom ejected the headstock....you can clearly see the break angle is absolutely wrong on this one
That's not a Gibson. Thats the Chibson that you ground the "Gibson" & " Les Paul" logos off of with an angle grinder.
That's Chinese quality right there. The USA wouldn't have lasted the first drop
but why? :( what's the purpose of this? you could've given this to another player :(
Wow something Chinese that doesn't break on first fall. Im almost impressed
This is toxic. I can't stand any of these videos. They thought to be reported
Cheater when it snapped that wood tells me its a fake that's not Mahogany you got a Chibson there buddy nice try but why play authentic when you can get your wings Dean Guitars #1
Well this could go one of of two ways. Either its a real Gibson and your going to hell, or its a Chibson and you get a ticket straight to immortality.
It proved it was tough. But Mr Nugget of Butt busted it anyways.
Hey man, next time you can just throw the thing over my fence, but please don't jump on the neck....
Try that with a double cutaway les paul special ,les paul SG body or a reverse firebird
All you have to do is ship it on united or Delta.most will arrive broken even in a mr Roadie hard shell roadcase
I've broke a few guitars in my time, but I would've still loved to had that no matter what it was, but I see it's not JET proof
Sorry what was the point of this video? Its clearly not even a gibson guitar. And then he dumps it outside some guitar shop.
