I’m a United fan and have been since 1964. I’ve always hated Leeds but about 7/8 years ago I was out in London with some mates on a bit of a pub crawl. We met 2 Leeds fans about 22/23 years old. We got chatting. We were all in our 60s but these lads were such great blokes, such good fans and so passionate for their team they transformed my attitude. Leeds were challenging to get back in the Premiership that season and I’ve had a soft spot for them ever since. Change is possible. Best wishes to you all.

He sure was. At Forest he was a box-to-box defensive midfielder, launching out of defence to attack. That was what made his name. He continued that role at Man Utd, before Ferguson retrained him as a central midfielder, with Scholes as the attacking midfielder. This prolonged his career no question.

Keane had three careers at Utd. He was more of an attacking mid when he signed, then he transitioned to box to box before becoming purely a defensive mid. Let's not forget he also played CB and RB quite a few times during injury crises. He was RB when Utd battered Ipswich 9-0. His first 3 managers in professional football were Brian Clough, Jack Charlton and Alex Ferguson...that's not a bad education.

There was a time when, if Keane didn't play, we all just knew that United would lose. Without Keane, a United loss was almost inevitable, that was his influence... I still remember the treble days... when there were rumours when he would leave for Juventus, every United fan was nervous.

The hardest thing to do is control and pass the ball at the highest level when the game is played at a 100 miles an hour. Control, pass and move is the basis of football. Then doing it at 200miles an hour is the difference between a pro and everything else. Then he added tackling ie retrieving the lost balls etc then ofcourse his leadership skills. Not the most skilful but had the basics to a T.

Control, pass and move. The players who excel are of course talented, but they do the basics so well. Milan is my team for 35 years. Watching my team over the past 10 years, I'll tell you that control, pass and move are skills not easily gotten or honed. Too often instead of control and easy pass forwards, footballers decide to play it backwards or sideways. Scared to take responsibility or panic when the opposition even slightly press. Last weekend we literally seemed to play with a 1-4-0-6 system. Midfield non existent, the defenders just passing it around amongst themselves, and all of the other players with their backs to the opponents waiting for some sort of magic to happen. Scared to receive the ball, pass it and or take it past an opponent and put the opposition on the back foot - just can't do it. So whilst it seems that roy Keane is downplaying or simplifying his abilities, the reality couldn't be more different. He could do those 3 things extremely well, and that's why he is so celebrated by his clubs' fans even after all these years.
