Sharpe was absolutely unbelievable in the 90-91 season, then we added Kanchelskis in the following season when we finised runners up to Leeds and then Giggs came in to play on the left and the wing situation looked out of this world, then Sharpe just fell off the radar and as a kid I remember waiting and waiting for his big return but it never really happened.
United ruined 20 years of my Life from the 90s being a Liverpool supporter, but I'd admit for real, United were much more likeable early 90s and yes, that all black kit. In fact, all the kits with Sharp on them I liked.

People look at me funny when I say Sharpe could have started that 1999 European cup final. But, with suspensions and injuries. The fact he was a better player than Blomqvist and if he stayed at utd, who knows? You have to see it Alex's way mate. You, Neil Webb, Dwight Yorke and so on. Its just the way it was. Bruce was a real legend too and a fantastic captain!

me too. giggsy was the better dribbler, but sharpe was more imaginative and a better crosser of the ball, he just generally stroke the ball better. OBviously giggsy ended up being the far, far superior player, but sharpe was as talented in many aspects of the game, but failed in the main one: he wasn't ambitious or driven.
I loved Lee but fergie was right, he was a waster, he had immense talent but he never got the right work ethic and professionalism. The fact that after united he basically languished in lower divisions is evidence enough, fergie tried his best to make of him the star his talent deserved, but Lee wasn't interested. Fergie was generally very good at getting rid of players at the right time - but when you're dealing with people who have contributed to past successes (or anyone, just because they're human), why do you consistently need to be such a d about it?

Exactly my point. Pre premier league he was half decent, thereafter he was awful. You can put it down to lifestyle choices which certainly played a part. But as soon as the game rapidly increased in terms of skill, talent and professionalism, he was awful. His supposed peak was at a time when the standard of football in this country was atrocious, as soon as it increased he looked like what he was- a league two (old fourth division) player.
100% disagree...i reckon he would have thrived in modern game even more so with more focus on mental health and support...his constant smile hid huge anxiety, but he was fearless, strong, fast, skillfull and best consistent crosser of the ball I've seen.....I think in modern game with zero drink culture, he wouldn't even think about the nights out, he was at torquay at 15, and it was the culture, and continued at utd in late 80s....to say he wasn't good enough is bollox, but I think with all the injuries he fell out of love with the game....defo should have stuck it out at united, but I really think fergie tolerated Beckham better because of what happened with Sharpe...I'm not saying he wasn't blameless, but big injuries and meningitis at 19 definitely affected his career, and confidence, and I think an arm around the shoulder instead of bollockings at a young age would have been more beneficial....nearly 300 games and 36 goals, countless assists for united?! Was definitely good enough!

Also this is evidence that had Gazza come to United may be Sir Alex wouldn't have necessarily been able to keep him on the right track either.

He was canny things though, Ferguson would get rid of players and seem to time it to an attitude change towards them,he did the same thing with Beckham, but being ruthless on that side made him the top manager,he did keep scholes and giggs and afew others around though so it wasn't a lack of duty to his players. Still Manchester United players have always been their own group,we should have not picked any of them for the England squad and stayed away from Chelsea players, we'd probably have done better at the world cups and not seen our national teams being so useless at the biggest tournaments
