Awful snap but actually a great job by the holder to recover. The ball was in perfect position for that kicker, pause it if you need to see it better. It was entirely the kickers fault. I've never seen a kick that short missed and not to mention it was outside the field goal post the entire time.
It pains me that 2 of the best QB performances in CFB history (this and 2019 UCLA) are not only from Washington State QBs, but also resulted in absolutely improbable losses
You mean on the 4 yard line to run the clock out? Why would they throw the ball to take a chance on stopping the clock? I don't think they expected their kicker to miss a kick my grandmother could've made. How in the world did your comment get so many likes, as if what you said wasn't idiotic? 😂
I was a Student at WSU during this game. Never been more infuriated after a game, horrible special teams and a TERRIBLE missed TD at the end of the game....
1: He absolutely broke the plane there at the end and it should have been a TD. 2: You had 3rd down and 19 seconds left on the clock, run another damn play and go for the score. Even if you run the ball and don't get it, you should be able to get lined up for a FG in that amount of time
or jus pass the ball to the corner or low on a short slant, so its either completed or under/over thrown incomplete. not to mention ur qb just broke an fbs record and has 0 interceptions
The real mistake here is not kneeling the ball in the dead center of the field. Instead, they gave the kicker a really sharp angle up close and these kickers are not used to that.
I was at this game, Connor and the Offense were dialed all night but the Cal QB some dude named Jared Goff had 500+ yards & like 6 TD......College football just isn't the same w/o Mike Leach R.I.P.
16:51 I think the ball just barely breaks the plane before his left knee goes down. Idk why Mike Leach didnt call timeout there so the officials had time to review the play
Also it was 3rd in goal with 19 seconds. He should’ve ran a pass play and if that didn’t work try a field goal on 4th. Just bad coaching on that last sequence of the game
@@reggiesmith4132I mean all you need at that point is a field goal to win it. No use running another play that could potentially turn it over. Just watched the highlights. It was Washington State vs UCLA in 2019. Gordon threw for 9 TDs and they still lost to UCLA. The same coach for State as well. I guess State never learned they would need a defense no matter how many yards and TDs their QB throws for.
@@marcd1981 Again, WSU had 6 turnovers and 2 punts and twice on downs....so, WSU had 19 possessions....it was all about the game script and even the best defense would've given up at least 50 points...having to defend so many possessions and bad field positions. Same team, same coach, lost to UCLA in 2019 after State's QB threw for 9 TDs. They never learned they would need defense to stop the other team from scoring more than their record setting QBs.
This is my issue with the no huddle thats rampant in college now. That last play was a score but because your players knew if he didn't get in the next play was to run the hurry up and run zone right you couldn't get enough time for the coordinator to watch the reply and tell the coach to call a review and now you missed an opportunity to review and win that game all because you wanted to go faster and not let them off the field.
Lmao this is like playing road to glory on freshman. You score 10 touchdowns and throw for 600 yards, just for your kicker to blow a chip shot at the end of the game ☠️
im not tryna downplay the qb but there were a lot of yards after catch this game and he threw a hell of a lot of screens. his receivers went to work this game.
I know it's easy to blame the kicker/snapper/holder for that final missed field goal. But how does the defense still choke so hard when the QB and the offense puts up 59 points in a game?
WSU FG kicker had jersey #41, same number as Alejandro Maldonado of Oregon, who blew easy FGs in two games that cost the Ducks chances at the national championship
