Owned a KX125 back in 2006 and it was rebuilt by a guy who raced it on track. I used to ride it through the trails, even tight technical stuff and because I was young and fit and had nothing to compare it to I rode it as best as it could be ridden. I tell you what though it threw me off a few times.. Huge amounts of power for a 125. I just got a 2018 YZ250 and wonder how I'm gonna go with it..
The 125 does actually make for a good lightweight option for trail. Everything all in check with proper jetting, a 125 will hang with big bikes no problem.
ianks for your comment! For me Its not a question of being able to hang with the big bikes, but even with mods in my opinion the power band is not favorable for lugging up trails. As for the suspension it will take a ton of mods to get it supple enough for tight woods trails. After all these mods, you might as well get a KDX or KTM thats made for the trails.
@@osggarage5575 you are correct even with say a flywheel weight and big bore kit you get minimal ability to lug it down low. I used to work as a mechanic on motorcycles and out of all the street bikes and everything else in between, the two stroke Japanese mx bikes were my favorite to mess with. Great reliable machines
Try ebay. I have a 1998 and got almost everything from ebay. Got a good deal on plastics and graphics.. (Put up some videos on restoring the bike, I did Everything.)
would a kx125 carry around a 190 pound guy all day no problem? Looking to get another bike. Last one was when i was 17 it was an rm 125 Im now 35. Trying to figure out if i should go 125 or 250
I owned a 99 KX 125 for years and absolutely loved it.
Like the Miguel shirt lived in slade my whole life
Looking forward to the woods/trail riding comparison!
Miss mine so much. would love to rip on one again someday

@@tcrides2137 why would anyone use a flywheel weight on a 125? A 250 sure but a 125 would be a absolute waste and would gain little.
Got one when I was 13 raced it had me Owen mx track and lived next to the forestry lots of ridding had it till I got my car license
What was the name of the company that did your plastic kit? I own a 1999 kx125 and I'm having trouble finding plastics for it
I think it was from a Acerbis . It was ordered from either Rocky Mountain ATV, or moose racing.

The 125 could work if you are going to race MX. The powererband is way too narrow for trail riding.
badass bike.
i think the acerbis plastics are pronounced a-cherbie.
