Definitely the most fun you can have with your pants on.. 52 years old and all I ride is 125's. Along with my big wheel 85s and 100s from time to time but the 125 has always been my passion. Never cared for 4 strokes.
While I grew up racing the Green Machines I have always had an appreciation for Yamaha and how they build their bikes. What is even more impressive is that they have always catered to the Gearheads when it comes to factory direct aftermarket parts. For example the GYTR 140 Bigbore kit for a YZ 125; heck for a while you could buy the kit with the bike as a package deal. If that isn't forward thinking I do not know what is. I won't take anything away from guys like Eric Gorr because I had a 99 CR 125 with his 134 kit in it that was straight up gnarly as hell. It would hang with stock 250s if you didn't mind pinning it all the time and if they were novice 250 riders you could really hurt some feelings. That being said Yamaha's 140 factory kit with a Pro Circuit exhaust, Tokyo mods carb and a set of V3 reeds would spank the hell out of that Honda all day. If you want an affordable all around good 125 2t MX you'd be hard pressed to do better than a new Yami. Sure the KTM & Huskies are more modernized and come off the floor with all the bells and whistles but you are going to have to dig a bit deeper into your wallet for either of them. Here's the other thing, in a world where thumpers rule the day and the market Yamaha is the sole survivor from Japan that still offers a 2t in more than a 65, 85, or 112 super mini. For a weekend warrior looking to have fun on a budget a YZ 125 is the best bang for your buck on the market today if you are going new. Wish I had some disposable cash because that little blue beast would be making the trip to Indiana in a heart-beat. Whoever ends up with that bike is getting a sweetheart of a machine. Take care fellas and thanks for sharing with us.
The reason us vets love 2 strokes is because we rode them in the 70s. I had a 125 cr Elsinore Honda. Still my favourite bike. You haven't ridden a motorcycle till you ride a 2 stroke with a power band.
I bought a '96 YZ125 on New Year day, in 1000 pieces. To my delight it has an Eric Gorr 144 kit on it. Slowly getting it fully restored.. I just wish I had someone around like The Wizard to tune the carb when I get it up and running! This is beautiful machine as always guys!

I've slowly started liking the more modern plastics ever so slowly and it's def weird how my taste fluctuates cuz I used to love the style and shape of these side panels (the 2002-2014 gen plastic design) but I've now really taken a liking to the newer side panels that follow the curve of the silencer , they are all smaller for numbers, but u can also get smaller digits that are big enough and look fine......and I've trimmed my yz250s plastics down to match that look and now when I go back and look at the stock size and shape, they look like the size is of BARN doors , absolutely huge looking to me now.....lol
Had a 2014 with Vortex CDI, V-force reeds, full Hinson clutch, custom pipe&silencer, engine tuned, suspension set-up, all kinds of goodies. That thing ripped. Honestly think my KTM 380 was easier to ride, because on the YZ, you were constantly busy shifting and trying to keep the front wheel down!
Beauty. Great bike. I've had 3 of em and at 53 i'm looking for #4. So easy to maintain but clean ones are hard to find and used bikes prices are crazy right now.

Great looking bike and all intangible uprades just awesome. I couldn't imagine how much money has been put into this bike. It's going to make someone very happy.
It looks good to me, other than the chain and sprockets. I understand that aluminum is lighter than steel, and gold looks nice... but I really don't like my drive chain or sprockets to be made out of soft materials that don't hold up as well as the "less flashy" (but definitely longer lasting) options. I really don't see the point in a gold chain... it's going to be covered in oil and dirt will stick to it if the bike gets used, so it ends up looking somewhat the same as a regular chain during use but it is soft metal and not as durable.
Yeah I just bought yz125 2003 an im redoing the whole bike like this one every week I spend 500 hundred on parts il have it done soon it look like that one beautiful bike

"They'll kill each other for a 10 dollar trophy." lol. Isn't that the truth. Very nice 125 Yamaha. 125's can haul. I seem to recall 125's sometimes making the fastest lap times. I'm always impressed how much you know about these bikes. It would be easy to remember if it was your personal bike, but these are all different and you really know the scoop on each bike you show.
Good morning Ken, so I’m not sure what I should use for the ratio on the gas oil mix for my newc2021 YZ-125 , can you help me out with the? Do I do the traditional 32:1 or is it a different ratio ?

Skip the 4 stroke and stay with a 2 stroke haha.......although a honda XR is a kick ass 4 stroke. I've had a 450 crf and although very fast and powerful. It felt top heavy and unbalanced, and super stiff suspension to me compared to a older Honda cr.
If you do not like being on the clutch all the time invest in a Rekluse setup. I had the same issue with my 250 on some of the smaller private and local tracks and considered a four stroke right up until one of my riding buddies had to do a topend on his CRF 250R; I could rebuild my entire engine for what a valve job cost him. I bit the bullet and bought a Rekluse Auto Clutch system and what a difference that made. It takes some getting used to but it gives you the best of both worlds in that you can still dump the clutch and steer using the rear wheel, but you can also set it up like a CVT so that it only engages at certain RPMs and not have to use the clutch handle for every shift or risk tearing your tranny up by power shifting. I took a second and a half off my lap times once I learned how I could use the clutch system and well fatigued and cramped fingers were a thing of the past for this old man. A 2 valve four stroke for trail riding is great, but for riding on a track a 2t is the less costly option in my opinion. Just saying.
