Haha i buy used bikes with intention to open then up straight away. While checking If it run good but mostly i check shocks and lingages. Those are good i take it. Never trusting someones hours on piston storys.
He has the garage, the body and the brains! Love you dude, hoping to be doing projects as such on my own someday, sadly deals arent as good around here.
I'm auto tech and I appreciate the great workmanship that you do and the videos that you put out. Have ever thought doing what to look for video when buying a used bike?
@@KincadePavich I highly request this video, im currently looking for a trail bike and a project bike . I’ve been watching your videos along with some others, trying to educate myself on how to work on bikes. Myself and Im sure many more would highly appreciate a video talking about what to look for when shopping for used bikes . I’ve seemed to find a lot for a good price that say they run good but how do I know I’m not gonna run into issues like these such as previous mechanics making non beneficial add ons/repairs. Great videos keep it up!!
21:26 some people may not agree with me on this but when im working with stuck hardware on the vice i smack the vice handle with the mallet or sledge gets those seized bolts every time
Pro tip, when resurfacing a cylinder try to go in an infinity symbol type pattern to avoid shaving too much off from one side, as you’ll find your fingers might weigh down one side more than the other. Also, make sure to regularly clean your sand paper, the shavings can build up and glaze the surface, reducing the bite on the gasket. Love the rebuild, not to much or to little!
We've had a few '02 KX's. That year is really the best of all from '97-'06 - best motor character for sure. A "must do" however, is to put '03 triple clamps on it. Makes it a whole new bike that can actually turn with the front. A friend who was a race mechanic gave us all the goods on making KX's haul, so we implemented a few of his suggestions with great results...
Watched each individual video on this build and gotta say the full build video was just as awesome. Liked the commentary through out on this one. Looking forward to the next project! Honda 😮
Even tho I watched every episode, i enjoyed watching this again. You're a good dude and you have a great eye for making bikes look great. God help you with that CR tho that's proper roached, haha. Look forward to the build.
If you ever have to cut a sleeve or even a bearing off, cut it with a die grinder but don’t go all the way through, then take a cold chisel to your cut and it’ll usually split along that cut and won’t damage the shaft, I use this all the time at work.
iCat spark enhancer is what the component installed in line was. We used them on my 85’s back in the day and it would make the spark plug so hot it would embed the electrode into the top of the piston. Not from hitting it but from heat alone
Bro, i had a 96 xr600r that was street legal when i bought it in 2015, and 90% of the spokes wouldnt tighten or loosen. I was broke at the time so i just rode it anyway. The rear wheel ended up exploding, cracking the wheel and luckily i was only going about 10mph in a turn. Lowsided and even with jeans on my entire shin was skinless! Always check old wheels and spokes!!!!
Some nice tips and tricks I'm going to use on my '00 KX250 ... though I actually love the raw aluminum color of the wheels, I hate the black on my new bike. 😀Love that case sticker, I'll be grabbing one of those for sure.
Hi, Use 1/4" to 3/8" green tempered shelf glass. Make sure is is on a perfectly flat surface. I use an old counter top. You need copper jaws on your vice. I'll make a pair for you. I have that (20) vice/s..Great job on the rebuilds. I'm 62, Hobby machinist. I'm looking for a Cr250r late model. I had 3 and sold all of them, back in the day. Urrgh! Serb or croat? Redbud is our track.
I have to say this is about what to expect every time you buy a used 2 stroke. I have done it many times. The fact that I love doing it doesn't justify it in my wife's eyes though. Lol.
@@KincadePavich Cool, got 1987 CR250 im just about to get stuck into as well. You got a good thing going on here, please keep it up,you only have to read a few comments to see how much folks are enjoying them. :)
Must be satisfying to do this. Makes me want to get an old 2 banger and take my sweet time over it. If I can even break even on a sale, I'd be happy. I used to be a welder and metal finisher/polisher so, I have a few skills to call on and friends that still work there could come in useful lol. Even have a powder coating oven that could do frames with. Maybe one day..... The ONE thing I don't like or rather, like less, is the black rims on modern bikes. Prefer gold or bronze personally or silver. Gunmetal would look cool.
Man as someone who would literally kill to own a dirtbike i love watching ur restoration videos learning the ins and the outs of them one dayy ill be fixing up my own 🤞🏼
Thanks a ton, I believe you will! And I see you response - no, I will never notify anyone of a bike giveaway via RUclips comments. You gotta be careful of scammers!
I just bought a 94' kx250, i have a similar isuue with the top end because the walls have been worn down so ill have to get a whole new big bore kit otherwise it'll keep burning up my oil
I think you need to invest in an ultrasonic cleaner for your carbon stuff or anything else engine wise tbh, easy and gets into every single nook and granny!
nice work However noticed when you put grease on stem bearings You should watch a video on packing hub type bearings You will be surprised on how much grease they use.
Theres always some valuable information in these videos for people who like to work on things. I was thinking it might have been better finding a brand new coil instead of that old one for that price.
I don’t know about you, but the clips I think are the hardest to install lol. The 65 sx I did it took me forever to get the in correctly. Not to mention I lost those little clips at least 10 times and had to look for em. So frustrating
Those Kawasaki Japan stickers mean something bro. If you know you know. That was probably a serious racers bike back in it’s hay day if it’s sporting that sticker on the shock

Man that glass/sandpaper re-surfacing trick is money.
Smooth counter tops work good too!

Thanks a lot! Truthfully I haven't really, I feel like there's good content available for that, but I may take it into consideration!
You should! It’s great to hear different opinions!
@@KincadePavichyeah I'd rather you focus more on in depth rebuild stuff like transmission/engine work along with electrical.

Ive used that very same shop vac extension to drive MTB fork bearing races 😂
Love the number you chose. (406) That’s my race number. 😂😂
Try penetrating oil. Liquid wrench makes good stuff that will dissolve rust almost instantly. I use aerokroil if I can get it.

U had me at kx 2 stroke. But the shot of the rig?, haha😂
Next time prepack those stem bearings with a bearing packer then tap em on. I also wipe a little grease in the cup/race.
you can use a PVC pipe for the steering stem bearing too
always RAD my dude! Keep it up

There's always another one
Gotta see this thing rip buddy !

beautiful bike. sometimes the cheapest bikes are the most expensive
where do you find all your broken down bikes
Facebook and Craigslist. Occasionally friends or word of mouth.

How did the paint hold up on the rims. I’m tempted to paint mine but question the durability
That Baby is Sweet!!!
7:22 that killed me 🤣
how did you biy the piston without knowing the cylinder diameter? simply took the same size as the one that the bike came with?
You seem to do a good job at everything else hangers would have been no prob great job 💯🍺🍺
I have NEVER seen rusty bearings like that>>>>>>>>>>>>> Whhhoooooo!
the handlebars give it a freestyle bike look. Get a set of crossbars for it lol
