Superbo superbo superbo! The best 9 minutes of my experience on RUclips. 911s are iconic but the turbo deriving from the famous 1974 Martini 911 2.1 RSR makes it the number 1 iconic Porsche ever. Keep that gorgeous thing and get a second car if you must - but keep the 930.
Owning one of these has been on my bucket list for so long. I even had a model I put together of this same car(1/24 scale) without the whale tail. Sadly, that model went up in a house fire a few years ago.
Interior smells, isn't is incredible that after 30+ years they still can smell like new cars inside? I never liked the 4 speed and the notchy shifting but that was normal for the day. Good video, the red looks great.
The best thing he said of all is LIFE is indeed short to hold on to one car for too long, losing my Dad made me realise this when my Mum called me to say what are we going to do with all his collectibles. I realised he kept stuff he could not take that he cherished and used sparingly for a rainy day. Well best live every day like last one or it will be a shame, this is reason i sold my e30 M3 after over 20 year ownership. Bless.
I have a 1977 2.7 with a 5 speed! Porsche had the 915 gearbox 5 speed back in 1977. my electric sunroof switch is in the middle of the whole dash and yes my clock has a distinctive ticking sound which i love.
Never driven one and would surely drive one but i have the feeling this 930 would drive like a vw bug that is modern and powerful and i love the bug feel. The engine noise is behind you and you are trying to run away from the sound but like a shadow it keeps up with you, compared to front engine that is in front and pulling you the driver along so the noise is with you in front. With the 911 the sound is behind and you have that silence in front.
This vid has everything. The car, the place, the surrounding is so beautuful; especially the countryside, the town, the river, and the bridge. Wow I would love to take a drive along this road myself.
Every kid I knew salivated after a 911, ANY 911, but especially the turbo. Later on in life I found 'my' car: a 1996 993 C2, 6 spd manny. Yup, I do my own oil & (2) filter changes.
That’s a great looking 911. Very jealous ! Thumbs up for your obvious passion for the original air cooled turbo. I’ve just bought a 2009 997.2 carrera s.its the first Porsche that I’ve owned. But way back in the eighties I drove one like yours and I know exactly what you mean. I may try for an old turbo next time. Nice video . Hi from the uk
funny video, pretty accurate in an owners viewpoint... laughed when you mentioned the "windows down" vs using A/C - that's what I do. Secret buttons - check. Kid seats in the rear - check, although better used for my German Shepherd who loves car rides! good job on video. Oh BTW gorgeous day today, going out for a ride with my 87 911..... yeeehawwwww
I heard a joke - if Porsche 911 doesn't leak oil, its probably dead. Unusually huge oil circulating system, including dry sump and front oil cooler, with long pipes going underside of the car... so many places for leaks in pipe and hose junctions
Not true awaken77.....I had an 83 911 SC convertible for 3.5 years. When I bought it she was 29 years young. Original motor, gearbox, stater motor, wheels, oil / petrol hoses, interior. Even with 291.000 klms on the clock, she went like shit of a stick, no air bags, no power steering, totally bullet proof engine.Guards red like in this video. Best car I've ever owned ( and I have owned many cars, BMW's, STI,s MX 5's. These cars make a good driver great. I sold her a few years ago ( only to buy an investment property ) but hopefully soon I wish to get back to another one ( air cooled of course ) So to sum up the joke you heard ( I must admit, I've heard it too ) the only oil drops I had on the garage floor was when I changed the oil myself......all 11 litres of it :=)
I always had trouble understanding the difference between air cooled and water cooled. "In the Porsche world" as far as sound and the break through as meaning. So does this mean water cooled means there is a radiator in front of the newer turbo as far as 996 and up. As far as the sound change in air cooled vs water cooled, what can make the sound, sound different?
Hi evo552, the sound of the engine has more to do with the configuration (flat six, V8, straight 6, etc) and overall engine design than the cooling means. Air cooled (which is really oil cooled) simply means that the engine is relying on oil as the only fluid (liquid) to do the actual cooling, in addition to air (technically a fluid) being blown over the "outside" of the engine for additional cooling. In other words, oil moves through a loop from to the engine to a reservoir (where it cools), and goes back through engine to draw out more heat while lubricating the moving parts. In many of the 1964-1989 911 "air cooled" models, there was an oil cooler in the front fender of the car (similar to a radiator in water cooled cars) and the oil was channeled up to that cooler and back to the engine. This gives the oil more of an opportunity to cool. As seen in the video, there's a fan mounted to the back of the engine that blows air over the engine. The fan speed correlates to RPM, so the higher the rpm, the faster the fan spins and the more air/cooling you get. Of course, you generate more heat at higher RPMs, so there's a balance. As you mentioned, in 1999, Porsche released the 996 model 911 with a completely re-designed engine. It is still a flat 6, but the entire design was changed, and water cooling was added. One of the reasons for moving to water cooling is Porsche was having difficulty meeting increasingly strict emissions requirements, and needed to incorporate better cooling into the engine design as part of the overall effort. Keep in mind that the exhaust plays a huge role in how the car sounds, and when people talk about "engine sound", they sometimes don't realize they are actually talking about "exhaust sound". I hope this helps answer your question.
The only thing I’d add is this. Once 2nd gear was selected the thing would just go n go n go n go to an indicated 100mph on the speedo and because there was no let up with the acceleration it felt like u were taking off in a light aeroplane! Most amazing buz I’ve ever had in a car, but I would also add it was the most dangerous Porsche I’ve ever owned! .....Never meet ur hero coz you’ll b sorely disappointed!!
+marcia menage oil discussions are like religious debates these days, with many strong opinions. I used the 15w-50 synthetic as an example/prop, but people use all sorts of different brands/variants in these engines. There was no synthetic oil with the 930 was released, so the closest dino oil to the synthetic 15w-50 I used in the example would be the 20w-50 you mentioned.
the questions were dumb and annoying. i wish all the music during the drive were gone and the bell noise lower. outside of that this video is pretty good.
I agree, the factory wheels were 9” in the rear. They are often referred to as 11” flares because that’s the widest wheel you can fit back there. Similar to how the SC and Carrera had 7” front and 9” rear flares, as that’s as wide as you could go with wheels. Factory stock wheels were not that wide...they always like to leave some buffer.
styling as he said, more iconic and recognizable than Lambo or Ferrari. One thing these 930 guys have in common is that they were smart enough to stay single.
I want a couple of opinions..I have 2 930 Turbos which are BOTH VERY RARE U.K. RHD Models..one is a Metallic Brown 1976 UR-Turbo. MINT..GARAGE KEEP BUT ENJOYED WITH ALL RECORDS AND I have it at my shop in Vail Colorado with only 44,8** kilometers on it. unrestored..has never needed it. wish I coukd sgow pics of the under tray..not a scratch NEVER EVER DRIVEN IN RAIN..YEP CRAZY SINCE IT WAS A UK CAR!!! ITS ALSO A 1OF 8 RHD CAR#%% IN 76..WE GOT ANOTHER 930 TURBO IN 1984 IN ALSO U.K.RHD spec..1 of 18..The car now had the better engine . better intercooler..G50 TRANS.. THE 84 WAS BANNED FROM THE U.S. BECAUSE OF ITS MIDOW MAKER SNAP OVERSTEER..LOOK ONLINE..U WONT FINF A 1984 EVER FOR SALE..THE CARS WERE SHIPPED TO DALLAS IN 87 WHEN MY DAD GOT A TRANSFER..HE WORKED FOR Ensearch Oil Exploration for 44 years.. my dad gave me the cars...I bought a pair of 2008 GT3 RS MANUALS AND A MATCHING 08 GT2 RS ALL 3 IN Carrera white with black and Gun Metal grey wheels..I sent tge 76,84 and 08 to SharkWerks because I had moved to San Francisco yo live on my Catalina 455 moored at Clippers Marina in Sausalito..I now have a Catalina 459 Blue Water and I hsve a warehouse in Marin I work from and keep cars at.I live full time in Vail and own not only 3 Cannabis Dispensaries but a Vintage/Exotic DEALERSHIP WHICH ARE MAIN FOCUS IS ONLY TRUE MANUAL GEARBOX CARS..ANYWAY ALL 3 CARS..THE 08,84&76 ALL SPENT BETWEEN 6 MONTHS 14 MONTHS..THEY ARE ALL NONSTERS NOW. THE 76 SELLS AS A Ur-Turbo 930 and avg price is $325,000 with 80,000 plus miles and boring. Anyway..great cars..ill NEVER SELL THEM!!
Beautiful car. I would have to replace the turbo for a newer slightly more powerful one. Some good coilovers, sport clutch, and some brakes.. Maybe some wheels.. Stereo, oh and get the dude from RBW to put a body on for you ! Just do it !😁😈😁
The passenger is the weirdest dude ever. Body in the trunk? Who would the car be? Why are you even in this video when Todd is doing everything and you know nothing?
My favourite Porsche of all time
Every inch of this car is iconic.
best 930 video explanation from the owner itself ...he nailed the Porsche sounds imitations

Sorry to hear you lost the model to the fire. Maybe the next one will be in your garage instead of on your shelf!
This has been my dream car for the longest time. Mark my words, one day I will own one!
You will with that attitude ! Good luck You'll love it
Interior smells, isn't is incredible that after 30+ years they still can smell like new cars inside? I never liked the 4 speed and the notchy shifting but that was normal for the day. Good video, the red looks great.
Wow, beautiful, that Guards red is awesome
My dream car
just looking at it makes me feel like a kid in a candy store

I love the setting. Gorgeous.
+pezzonovante888 thanks! We were at a horse farm in central NJ, then a few spots along the Delaware river.
Wow this is amzing
The smell, the sound, the way the nose is always digging down. If you've never lived it.. you'll never know.

This is my second dream car!
My first is the Porsche 918 Spyder
Every kid I knew salivated after a 911, ANY 911, but especially the turbo.
Later on in life I found 'my' car: a 1996 993 C2, 6 spd manny. Yup, I do my own oil & (2) filter changes.
Guards Red, the right colour. and a stunning example as well.
Beautiful, thanks guys!

They should make the new 911 look like this. Maybe get a kit car 911 replica with modern running gear. But this is my favourite Porsche by far
I own a Benz clk, but the Porsche 911 is my all time favorite, and the, Germans know how to engineer a ride..I'm getting one soon.

This car has made me a mint on FH4 lmaooo
Good work on this video, I really enjoyed it being a Porsche AC fan
+Briank Kotyk thanks for the compliment, I'm glad you enjoyed it! It was great fun making the video with that beautiful piece of history.
Super, thanks....
I owned a 1987 Turbo Targa.Great car.👍
Old Porsche is olso good
I know I own an '87 930.. I would question this 930 as a US car, since it doesnt have the periscope brake light mounted on the back deck.
leather oil n gas! you are so right man, awesome!! sold my 86 years ago and now I cant buy one again, they sky rocketed .. :(
Looks like you were on 29 heading to Lambertville, that correct ?
Very close! We were over on the PA side for most of those shots. The bridge you see in the video is the Stockton bridge.
Beautiful
Jesus…. I was driving while watching this. That honk scared the sh*t outta me.

dangerous Porsche?
What an car! I had a 1987 Carrera and lost it to lift off oversteer. Oops.
The oil displayed is 15 W 50 wasn't it 20W50?

only change i'd do is swapping for a g50 5sp.
One time this car will be worth 1 million whatever. Hope i can buy one.
the questions were dumb and annoying. i wish all the music during the drive were gone and the bell noise lower. outside of that this video is pretty good.
and apparently magic color shifting paint
these are awesome cars no doubt, but they are also really expensive 100k up where i live (the turbo one)

Great video about a great sports car
Thanks, Scottyk!
These cars were selling for close to $90k back in 1988. You get what you pay for!
Most erotic car ever......for me anyway. Niiiiiiice, thx for the vid.
Beautiful car.
I would have to replace the turbo for a newer slightly more powerful one.
Some good coilovers, sport clutch, and some brakes.. Maybe some wheels.. Stereo, oh and get the dude from RBW to put a body on for you !
Just do it !😁😈😁
Then probably the 964 Turbo 3.6. Newer, more powerful and one of the best looking cars ever
I see you used Daddy Doug's music.
The best!!!
honey badger
Wow looks orange from side, I will ha e one soon!!!
Yes, the color grading was off a bit in some of the clips. One would look great in your garage!
I jave two one red one yellow. I may sell one there both stick 33 k miles one has 42k original miles
Noted
It's the Mystique
It isn't, the honor of most iconic by far goes to the beetle.
Good review but please lose the bells and sounds. Very annoying
Vw beatle new body
seemed like a cool guy until he said "pitbull."
Cool car but the audio in this video is horrible
🛵 red matic....
in one movie, dead body was stashed in the trunk of Porsche 911.
Most recently, the happened in Atomic Blonde where Satchel stuffs two Russians in the trunk in his 964.
stututututututu
duhe per tapke pisk
Terrible color correcting job....at times the car looks orange then red when they cover it with B-rol
Very true, I failed miserably at color correction.
loved the video though, just retouch the color correcting on the "arial" shots and it'll be awesome!
very annoying beeps...
The passenger is the weirdest dude ever. Body in the trunk? Who would the car be? Why are you even in this video when Todd is doing everything and you know nothing?
At least put a Blauplunk deck in with an MP3 Jack
Beautiful car, cringy commentary. :) Why do you always have to look into the camera? Feels like 1980 television. :)
Gays?
For sure
Great.car, nasty music...
Cringe
My dream car
