  • In today's video, I am going to review the one-of-one salmon red 1989 930 Turbo.
There were just under 19,000 930s produced over its 15-year run. Dr. Porsche signed the inside of the hood. In his life, he's only signed about 33 cars. 350 Horsepower and if the car does weigh 2,900 lbs, this car definitely has some serious power.
I am driving and reviewing the car in this video and will share my thoughts; immediately you feel the steering is heavy, especially at low speeds. But then once you get moving along, it lightens up. This car feels like its really put together well. The G50 gearbox feels good. The shifting feels actually pretty smooth and not clunky.
To know the full review, watch the video till the end!

@@RSXperience i have the red 86 with black sugar scoops. I was at the shop/show when you did the dyno pull with your GT3. I'm usually at a few C&C's when my garbage is running but I'm kind of a hermit. I'd rather be driving than sitting at a show. A few of the RCR's know me. I've known Steve since 2007.

Stunning Porsche 930 turbo probably one of the best Ive seen tho Watching the driver sit in that beautiful White interior Porsche in jeans was a bit triggering cos the blue staining the seats arghh.

Great car! The ride of these older cars is so good. So compliant yet not too much roll.
Is that a Cincinnati Microwave Passport up on the headliner?

    • @RSXperience

I agree. The ride was quite compliant. The smells and the sounds brought me back to my youth the way cars used to smell.
I don’t know regarding the Cincinnati Microwave Passport. I need to f/u with the owner.

Thanks for watching. I was already very nervous to drive it. I’ve driven all kinds of cars but not an air cooled Porsche and especially not a 930 turbo. Then Steve’s says he’s never let anyone drive the car. Gulp! He was very gracious and I appreciative.

@@RSXperience my first job was parts at a Porsche dealer in 1979. The 930 shows up and I say to myself I will have one someday. Most were black or white. The car you drove today would be my absolute favorite. I about jumped out of my chair when I got the notice...

I was only 9 or 10 when I first went into a Porsche 911... It wasn't a turbo but a targa of the same era... (They did do a turbo soft top though so who knows, can't remember) Same colour than this car on the video though... I was at the back, and my cousin and his godfather took us up the Mont Saint Odile mountain in the Alsace region in France, and the feeling of sheer power it left on me never disappeared 36-37 years later. We overtook at one point 6 cars going up as if they were parked on the road 🤣. Still one of my dream cars... I now am very fortunate to drive a 997 c2s but that "widdow maker" remains a dream... 😎

@@RSXperience I could not have said this better as I do the exact same thing. I love to share and encourage others if they catch me out with mine . I keep a low profile though so you would never know i owned one unless you catch me out with it. You say a lot of things in this video that are spot on with the driving experience . These cars drive very well even modified (up to a certain degree suspension wise) and settle into a steady "bob" . You have to work the car as you said and that's exactly right. Some people don't like the 4 speed in earlier models and prefer the G50 5 speed. Personally I enjoy the 4 speed, keep the motor spinning at 3000 RPM and power is instant. Driving back roads im in 2nd and 3rd all day so there's not a lot of shifting depending on the roads. The gap from 3rd-4th with the 4 speed is significant especially when combined with 17 inch wheels so you really never use it unless you're on the expressway. These cars don't like to lug at low rpm's as you seen when Steve took over, I get not wanting to run it up with him riding shotgun lol. We can fix that next time!

maybe the most sold 911 body second half of the 70´s till the end of the 80´s allthough the turbo came out 2 years i think after this body was released, it had many options since the interior design to the body options, this one looks more modern in finishings inside but the body looks like a second half of the 70´s car ,everybody wanted one , had two but only one turbo already in mid 80´s

That is a really nice car! I love that red color with the white!! Thanks for the detailed information and video. The tire upgrade was a good move as the old 16" fat tires are hard to come by now a days. I owned an original unmolested numbers matching / certified black 82 with 33K miles that I bought in 08 before the spike in price. The Euros had around 300 hp and was an amazing car. The only thing I didn't like was that 4 speed and could tell from your video that the 5 speed is really what the 930 needed! Here is a peek if you are interested: ruclips.net/video/p3Erw-00yGM/видео.html and a more serious overview version:> ruclips.net/video/wd1QSLSaEyk/видео.htmlsi=F76PGvbXff1oBJjA I'm sad I sold it too soon, I could have probably gotten another $100 K out of it.

Rear weight bias allows for more braking force to the rear axle without locking it up... is my guess.
