Thanks Tyler for saving another old Porsche, the Turbo deserved another chance. Looking forward to seeing it brought back to its former glory. You have inspired my projects and RUclips channel, saving old cars that nobody else wanted to save (even if some are serious moneypits or even if they had to be rescued from an overgrown jungle). Given how new cars are going, it justifies saving a lot of the older ones particularly from the 1990s and 2000s.
"Looking forward to seeing it brought back to it's former glory"...you came to the wrong channel for that my friend😂😂 I mean sure the Wizard and his boys will get the thing road worthy once again, but Hoovie usually doesnt do ground up restorations for cars like this, he saves that for the much older classics.
@@jbm0866 It will at least be in a condition that it will run again. After all it is a 20 year old car that was an ex-rental, it won't be perfect but better than what it currently is.

I had an S-Line a6 2.7t, years ago. I honestly didn't hate the tiptronic. You learn to time your upshifts a half second early, and once you nail that delay, it becomes fun to use. I remember the downshifts being almost instant, so if you needed to pass, you just tossed the stick over and down and zoom around the slow guy lol
It's actually a good thing these initially came with slushmatics for the automatic version. It would have been worse if it had the sequential automated manual transmissions that most other supercars had at the time. In everyday cruising, stop/start traffic and freeway driving you wouldn't want clunky shifts.
tiptronic became popular when I was learning to drive stick, tried it on a new (at the time) altima which threw me for a loop because it was down to upshift and up to downshift so I'd accidently try to downshift to hit third but that thing didn't accept your prompt to shift half the time anyways lol

On the orange Porsche - I detail cars, and I think the paint could be brought back with a moderately aggressive polishing compound, followed bu a hand wax. Be careful not to buff through the top coat, Comet WILL work, especially on single stage older paint, but it bleaches and flattens the finish. On the deck lid, the holes are relly ugly. IF you can match the paint, fill and touch them up .If not , consider putting in flush carriage bolts and touching them up. Wouldnt look too badLOL.
Hoovie: Cars too nice for me I'm kind of a bottomed feeder.
Also Hoovie: I paid $300,000 for one car.
Look up the definition of bottom feeder. He's spot on.
A 300k SLR is most certainly bottom feeding lol
@@ericervin4778 are you serious? cause this dude is loaded and is not a bottom feeder, and yeah he buys some shit cars but a bottom feeder is buying cars for 500$
@@jacob1423 I'm dead serious. From Merriam Webster: "an opportunist who seeks quick profit usually at the expense of others or from their misfortune." Someone's financial status has absolutely nothing to do with being a bottom feeder. And Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos, the Walton family, etc., etc., etc. are loaded. Hoovie is doing well financially for himself. And more power to him.
Thanks Tyler. Loved this video. Got a thing for Porsches and it was lovely seeing your family asleep on the journey too.
As a Porsche enthusiast, I'd really like to see you bringing that back to a decent standard.
The Tiptronic transmission in this 996TT is actually the same unit that’s in the McLaren SLR you just bought it Barrett Jackson.
PLease swap the wheels on your slr...the left side should be on the right!! The turbines are the wrong way haha PLEASE
Love it when you save the older classics, hope you keep it up.. modern supercars are boring
Hoovie: This paint, it looks a little bit shinier than it used to be, so you did something!?!?
Leonard: I did. We did something. We polished it with... We gave it a bath with Comet!!😂😂
I enjoy how so many times Hoovie gets the experts to explain what was done. Not that I would ever attempt any of this with my "newfound knowledge, " but it's still fun learning.
Top gun : I feel the need for speed
Hoovie : I feel the need to buy old crap
I'm so happy that you rebuilt it like this. Nothing cooler than an old, used, patinated Porsche with history. Good decision, Tyler. so cool.
I feel lucky... I bought my 996 Turbo in pristine condition 3yrs ago for $33k.. when prices were much better :) -- and it had the GT body kit, Bilstein coil overs, and perfect service history.
That sounds phenomenal! Lucky you! 😁
lol Tyler I thought you'd have heard the old saying that "All that Glitters is not Gold"
This will be a classic Hoovie Hooptie fix up!
The guys look when you started the video inside the dealership screaming! lol idk how people can be so loud in a quiet area
