  • Join me as I walk you through the joy of ownership and driving impressions of a 1988 3.3 liter Porsche 911 Turbo Coupe. Having owned this 930 for almost 15 years, it's been a dream car in the stable and I'm fortunate enough to share the experience with others.
    Watch as I show driving footage as well as all of the important interior and exterior details that make a 930 such an interesting, beautiful, and iconic exotic sports car of the 1970s and 1980s. From the whale tail, flared fenders, and opulent interior, to the staggering performance for its time, the 930 is an icon in Porsche history and all Turbos that followed were based largely on the groundbreaking efforts of this car and platform.

    Totally agree with you comments about the skyrocketing price of these cars. A black on black '89 930 was the poster I had above my bed as a kid. I was lucky to buy a pristine 20,000 mile one 6 years ago for $35k but the skyrocketing prices made me afraid to drive it anymore so I ended up selling it for $125k last year. Wish more people could experience this car - it was so fun to drive.

    We had one in 1986. White. Really fun to drive and compete in races. It did hydroplane on me a couple of times. Got it up to 160 in 1986-87 on a straightaway on the way to Atlanta from Huntsville Alabama. I'm missing our 930 turbo whaletail right now. Cops mostly pulled us over because they wanted to see the engine!

    Ughh I wish my dad kept this car, he had four 930's around 12-15 years ago, but he sold them all and now he has a 1988 911 turbo look, I miss the 930 so much.

      These air cooled 911s, are becoming serious investments.
      Just imagine if you could turn the clock back to 1973 , and purchase one or two original Carrera RS models.
      Collectors are paying huge money for them.

    All true:
    I’ve an 88, 930 Cab, also guards red w/cashmere inside.
    Basically bulletproof, beautiful, and if disrespected, a bit dangerous.
    Great video, thanks.

    Loved this car. Congrats on being able to own a piece of supercar history. Yours looks great too! I'd take one of these over almost any of the newer Porsches. though my personal favorite was the 935 slant nosed. Do your mods hurt the value of it or is that something you weren't really that concerned about since you actually drive it. I totally agree about newer cars having too many gadgets. I love the simple dash that has all gauges you need (and analog too). I'm having to add gauges to my STI to get the essentials like boost and oil pressure. Nice vid thanks for sharing!

    • @ChrisWorldTV
      @ChrisWorldTV  6 лет назад +1

      The mods are probably a wash. Dont hurt value but don't help it. Some want bone stock originals, but there are so few bone stock 930s its almost expected there have been some bolt-ons done. These cars were choked from the factory and once driven with another 100-150hp on tap, I could never go back to stock. Looks and drives like a stock 930 w/o your foot into it, but a missile when you stomp. These cars are 2950lb so 425-450 feels like 500 on modern pig. Car beats me up though. Hot, loud, hates idling in traffic. More of an occasion car.

    My '87 is relegated to the garage.....not a queen....but out of necessity as the snow begins to fly. Been a part of my life for over 10 years. I do all my own work and have her cranking out some serious HP. 282 from the factory is great - initially - but there is so much more to easily be had on these classics. I'll have it 'till I die, or die having it..

    • @ChrisWorldTV
      @ChrisWorldTV  6 лет назад

      The engines feel like choked lung cancer patients until they are opened up. I know the car isnt technically twice as fast with the mods, but dammit it sure feels like it. The torque is what I noticed most.

    Also Cris, get some Fuchs on your car ASAP. It will increase the value of your car way more than the cost of the wheels.

    Chis, I would like to get a 911 (2005-2010) to keep for the long run and have it possibly go up in value. With the IMS bearing problem in the years mentioned, is that a good period to get into? What is your opinion, or would you recommend a different year. Thanks.

    • @ChrisWorldTV
      @ChrisWorldTV  7 лет назад

      IMS issues mostly relegated to 996 Carrera. 996 Turbo used a different motor. 997s are pretty safe and out of flavor right now with the 991 being in production. Of a 997 Carrera or 996 Turbo, Id go 996 Turbo. Way underpriced right now for what the car is, reliable, fully depreciated. Get in while others are looking elsewhere. Probably a year or two left in the window.

      Momo Olympic in zebrano wood and leather. Not to be confused w/the slightly different Olympic 2000 which has an oval center cap instead of round. I believe it was a JDM wheel only and is no longer in production. I checked my service records and a previous owner installed in 2001 for $425 new from a local rim/wheel dealer. When I got the car I bought the matching shifter for it. No idea on fitments. Check Ebay. Hope this helps.

      Agreed go for the 3.2 carrera 86 to 89, they are 'bullet proof' by most in the industry. The 3.2s are also way easier to drive, better torque and power curves at lower RPMs and also the performance is not much different about 0.6 of a second 0 to 60mph and a slightly lower top end... is 150 mph fast enough?

    Why of WHY do people have whale tails on daily driver cars? LOL....just a TOTAL joke ....making themselves spectacles of stupidity to other people ....I mean okay IF you actually track your car at levels where it actually helps at all. I know a woman who droveSOslow scared todeath to drive ANYTHING approaching fast EVER and yet she paid so much extra money she could not afford to have the turbo performances diction Only because of the looks! Imbecile!
