In all of the years I’ve spent on RUclips, this is literally the only dude that can keep me watching camera stuff content until the end. Bravo bud.
for me, its because he sounds like hes hosting some kind of legit tv show. Gives a legit feel to whatever hes talking about!
he's magic. not blackmagic though.
Am I the only one stressed about that C70 on the back getting smashed every time Kai turns around?
I think I even heard a faint 'clunk' at one point.
@@JohnnyMotel99 You are right, it hit the wall at 4:59 . All my fears came true! lol
Yeah, when I heard the lens bang off the concrete!
Battle scars.
Kai is literally the first dude on RUclips with the hands on footage right now.
Seems like...
CVP uploaded 4 hours before him
Nope
FilmTools had it 4 hours before the embargo time of 7am NYC time
Nope. Gordon Laing beat him by a hour: ruclips.net/video/KHueaFxfqYQ/видео.html
It feels so good to see Kai and Lok doing the videos together again. It will be nice if we can get Laimby in as special guest to do a season. You guys brought so much fun for audience back then.
Love Laimby She had me at gorgeous.....
Saw a Canon Sureshot Supreme on his table...my childhood was photographed on that with Kodak Gold
I can't even BEGIN to imagine two smashed-up cameras if the super-careful Kai Wong is looking after them. Love this video as usual Kai. Great stuff.
Here he is being super careful with the lens on that C70 on his back. 5:00 😁
Wow literally the first hands on first look of the Canon R5C on RUclips! Way to go!
love the review camera guy, u sure will have a future in this journey on youtube!
Congrats on the early scoop - great to see this camera in action.
This video was a lot of fun. And Lance is a legend.
Would love to see more Canon content in the future. Great video as always
stranger: are you that camera guy?
Kai equiped with 2 tons metric of camera gear : i'm that camera guy lmao
so good to watch your videos kaiman!
I love the chunk at the back
Makes it look extra pro
been watching you guys since the early days of DigitalRevTV and been loving every video! great jacket btw! keep it up guys!
Thanks for the long time love!
Finally a review for this camera!😃👍🏼
You didn't have much time and you worked hard to get this out. Thank you!
Thanks!
Finally Canon review !! after a long time lol
This is amazing thank you Kai
Everybody posted reviews about this at the same time but there is only one, yep only 1 Kai W review witch I have to watch even if I'm still waiting for my Z9, that was orded in November 2021. Love what you do. You rock !
You might want to cancel that Nikon order now :)
2 years later canon is copying the Panasonic s1h, they cripple the IBIS and AF system.
Good review, thought the video looked very good.
Awesome camera man! Great to see you Kai!
Thanks!
@@KaiManWong Incorrect! CLOG2 is only possible when shooting 8K
Kai, nice jacket. Great vid
That long delay between photo mode and video mode is because you have to pass through the Off position on the way there. That initiates sensor cleaning, so it has to let that complete before turning on video mode.
if you turn off sensor cleaning,,, itll be faster no?
As far as the C200 goes, it takes about 10 seconds to boot up. Guessing this is the case for this one as well. Frustrating when using it for run and gun.
@@dingdong5601 No, in another review the camera was switched on directly from 'off' to 'video' mode and it just turned on normally, like turning on an R5. It didn't seem slow at all.
@@SonnyBCreative If that can be turned off, then yes! In another review the camera was already off. When switched on (directly to video mode) it appeared to fire up quickly, like turning on an R5.
@@cooloox ah ok. Well that’s good news.
Dope Jacket Kai!
Never knew about that Yashica Samurai, what a cute and quirky little unique SLR!
Mannnn I haven’t seen Kai’s videos in so long! Miss this guy!! Such a smart and funny person!
“You think McKinnon does this?” 😂
Kai’s been banging out these on hands reviews quick though 🙌🏽 🔥
I would love a lot more R5 / RF lens videos 🙌🏻✨ I do almost entirely photos and picked up 2x R5
i can see this being the GO to for all independent and small budget film crews for small short films, small media companies. this is my opinions the way hybrid cameras should go, maybe not in the design but the implementations.
nah, black magic is still king
Small everything
@@Archonsx they may still be great but the battery, and menu is atrocious. To me a camera/ computer or software should be simple to navigate and go through black magic has a long way to go. But I think having a camera that has both OS like this can bridge the gap for smaller filmmakers
@@johnsysays I mean this be like good for pics too, but doesn't give ' I wanna take pics vibe'
@@peaceyoman123 I thought most liked the bmpcc 4/6k menu implementation? I have yet to use one.
And I agree this camera is great for small productions, you’d need a battery solution though
even the Kai W got a dream lens now !
Man. That jacket must've been a Christmas present :) Enjoyed.
Holy crap. Finally an upgrade for my 1DC
Keyan Prince in the Background 👑👑
Awesome review!!!!
That jacket Kai is hard 👏🏼
As always another banging funny review lol
Cheers!
I'm flinching every time Kai swings that C70 around. Yow.
Video looks really good!
Supreme letterman + R5C! Kai flexin' in these streets.
My man’s!!!!
That jacket it bomb by the way!
Great review, it's a huge camera for sure! I thought my sony a7r iv was big, but this? Probably not ideal for street photography. But more for studio work.
Really appreciate Kai with the supreme varsity drip.
And that nice guy (not you LOL) at 08:23) is RIGHT... you're amazing... and I must compliment you for putting so much humour in a FANTASTIC review... and not just in THIS one!
I bought the EOS 5 in June 2020 and the EOS C70 in September 2021... and have a big problem now LOL! Cheers Mr. Kai... continue this awesome work! Ciao, Max.
love ur jacket
Wow, apparently Canon really scaled back who they gave the camera to. Only a few videos this time. Congratulations Kai for the scoop!
That cam battle with Ikea is funny
Great review Kai! Safe to say after trying the C70, I'm even more certain the R5C is the camera I'm looking for in my career. By the way, any chance there is a Vertical UI just like the C70 when shooting Vertical videos?
I saw in a video from Wex that it’s got a 9x16 framing element, that I’m not sure if was just blanking or actually cropping the image for portrait. Not sure if you shoot vertical the UI may adapt at that point though
@@crystalpulseTV thanks I will check out that video from Wex.
The no IBIS, mediocre electronic stabilization unless you want a massive crop (spoiler alert...I don't) thing is just strange. The hot shoe audio and timecode are nice additions, but if the introduction of this thing puts the OG R5 on sale, that's 100% my play.
1.1 crop is massive? Or are you saying there’s a higher strength of stabilization that crops in further? First I’ve heard of it.
@@johnd9357 Thy showed it in the video. It has a 1.4 crop
@@johnd9357 yeah, there are 2 electronic stabilization strengths, the stronger of which yields a 1.4x crop. For my work (interiors) that's not really practical since we're shooting so wide already.
This cam will propel many careers
i loved r5c thanks
Good job camera guy!
Love it. We’ve been looking at upgrading from the Linux GH5s to the C70. But we may have to consider this instead.
If you don’t need photo performance, i think the c70 is a better option. ND built-in, low pixel sensor, dual gain, xlr input…
@@spadafoto.filmmaker thanks.
that jacket is freshhhh
One thing more to test... If these newly launched camera provides a USB video out & how good it is.
As we are in the chaos since 2+ years, many of us are still in work-from-home situation cause sectors with mass employees aren't allowed to work under one roof. This info might be helpful.
I could never leave Sony. The E mount and Alpha series has boomed bigger than anyone could have ever expected
A very lovely video 📹 ❤ 😊
On Oxford Street?
That IKEA guy had a Yashica ???? Wow
Nice video that camera guy 👍🏼
Looking forward to this review 👍
Can you get your hands on a BMPCC 6k Pro and show it in an overkill Vlog-like setup? I love your approach to reviews and I think it will be a fantastic take on it.
It seems like the photo and video modes are using separate operating systems. That maybe the reason of the big delay on switching modes.
I want that Yashica samurai!
I'm here to see the R5C reviews. But my eyes just kept looking at Kai's jacket. Looks very nice.
The DREAM LENS !! And the Canon 7 !! Please do a vid about that Kai ! I've got one !
This just cemented my decision on buying a Lumix s1h.
that canon 7 is the real star of the show 😩😍
Thank you for doing the hands on review. The no built in ND filter is kind of a deal breaker for me. I bet the next model will have it.
doubtful, it's a full frame sensor, sensor is twice the size of the c70. there is no where to put nd filters, they still have the rf to ef adpater with a variable nd filter though
Yup, they had to let the IBIS go so definitely no space for internal NDs.
The RF to EF variable ND adapter is pretty great. Pricey and must use EF glass but works REALLY well.
Thanks! I think they still have to sell the C70, so I'm not sure we'll see that for a while.
Thanks for the hands-on video, Kai! Could you please confirm if it’s possible to turn the cooling fan on in the photo mode? It could be useful for long exposures (astrophotography).
Nice to hear Dan again, behind the camera.
I still think Video cams for Video production and not all of this "add bits on" too a DSLR form factor.
Call me old fashioned.
While others just talk about it you take it and use it nice job 👏
Thanks Good Review Kai! I have both R5 and C70. But I buy R5C. I'm worried about DR and HDMI.
Great video. I think I still prefer the c70..for me i can't see this as a comparable option.
I kept worrying Kai was going to smash his C70 into the wall as he was walking...
Great video!
I'm pretty sure he did smash it at 4:59. I hope the lens was OK !
i was pretty interested in that Yashica footage
Bomber jacket hard!
Silly mode? I'm sold!
8:30 - Renaming your channel to „That camera guy“? How about „That camera Kai“ - oh look that‘s that camera Kai
Fire!
the body reminds me of the Panasonic S1H, specially with the big fan in the back
LETS GOOOOO
I had no idea Dan Chung was filming you until the very end! Man I haven't seen that dude since Steadicam workshop in 2012. But anyways thanks for the review! It helped me decide to NOT purchase the R5, but rather wait for a hybrid setup like the R5C.
While this was filmed on a Sony it’s so hard to tell them apart when they switched. We live in a great time to have these beast at our disposal that is for sure. Not really sure who this camera is for, ppl that are true cinema shooters are complaing about lack of hdmi and built in nd’s, while run and guns are complaing about no ibis, size, battery life etc. i just switched to Sony with the a7iv and a7siii so I will not be able to get this camera but happy with my decision.
filmed on a Panasonic.
Three moment I saw the new power switch, I knew that was gonna hinder ita but from being a 100% true hybrid. But as it is right now, it does seem pretty damn near that.
amazing
I love this guy. So funny so chill. But not 1 sec of useful footage. Also he crashed his lens on the back hard on that wall. Cheers bro.
What looks beautiful about these logs is the c200 image as usual. Or c300 ii in earlier videos.
Need a video about the bags in the background 👀
Omg, seeing that delay in switching to video mode is staggering. That would be completely unusable in a fast paced hybrid coverage situation.
Not to mention, if shooting video (huge resolution/bitrates/codecs) you’ll have to wait another few secs for the data to write to the cards before switching to photo mode. Otherwise premature switching may result in file corruption
@@jonagreyphoto this is why I love my new Z9
Wait for firmware update, it will lessen that gap.
Faster than setting down a picture taken camera and reaching for the video camera.
@@davidlove8098 I'd rather have 2 cameras, that delay would 100% be unusable for the situations I shoot in.
9:38 i was, like, "forget about that Canon whatever...what camera is THAT?" upon closer look, it's a Yashica Samurai x3.0...wow i never knew this camera even existed.
Oo cool the video / photo switch. Fuji get it for the xt4🤪 long time ago.
Wow.. too good
Thanks for the review "That Camera Guy". To be honest I've watch a ton of your videos, but it would take a while to remember your actual name.
I got motion sickness watching this video. I could count each and every step your cameraman took, so much shakiness and so many out of focus shots and extra blurriness etc.
While this does do photo, for video shooters, it makes more sense to get the fx3. You get full hdmi, ibis, and a lens for the price of one r5c.
The FX3 is a quarter the resolution though and doesn't do internal raw. Quite the difference in those aspects.
Edit: Also the timecode port is super useful
If you're a Canon guy for decades with Canon lenses, and want just 1 camera/system, I don't think it makes sense.
@@Slettador Yes, I should have clarified that if you need the resolution, it makes sense. But for those just shooting 4k, its a tougher sell if you like the convenience offered by the Sony. pros and cons
Fx3 ibis is junk & their colors suck
I was a bit surprised to see that piddly little HDMI under the R5C's flap.
Kinda suprised it's not 10K because V L O G
Good review! OK, not camera-related, but the long hair looks good, Kai. Grow it even longer! Cheers from Toronto!
p.s. Been to London twice (2018, 2019) and love the place, also notice Big Ben is finally pulling his/her skirt down!
That 8 to 10 seconds is not good at all for me switching is a killer. Great codecs and frame rates but no IBIS, no full HDMI, battery eater and mixed cards. No way to have a backup in 8K or 120fps 4k. it's a very different camera over all. It just seems like a more indoors studio production video camera more good for very slow pace, controlled environments but not a fast pace, out door or moving type camera. Just me
I think, I will just get this as a back up for my Z9
The boot up time (10sec) on the C200 is pretty frustrating as well. You will miss shots when running and gunning. Honestly, the original R5 is perfect for my needs. Lightning fast when turning on or switching modes.
I think as far as cooling the R5C must have had a chat with the Panasonic S1H😁
Kai's reviews gives me such a nostalgic feeling
