props for being THE ONLY RUclipsR thus far to mention the new ability to use AFC when using the sigma adapter for EF lenses !!! i actually have that adapter for my S5 and thats actually a really important feature for me so i'm really happy that you mentioned it :) !
How has it been working out for you with the Canon lenses especially? I just got a r62 and I feel like this is even better because you can use other brands lenses and you're not locked out!
@@simonmaduxx6777 i guess by r62 you mean the canon r6 II...? in my case i use the adapter with the cheap 50 mm f 1.8 stm which is really nice because its so small amd compact it makes the whole thing look like a point and shoot... for me its a great combo when i dont want to attract a lot of attention and just want to have sth small and light with me .. the image quality is great and its fun to use ... only big disadvantage thus far was the inability to use AFC
Richard Wong also covered it in his review and AF tests, he has a couple really good videos on the S5II. But seriously that is exciting, that MC-21 is probably going to get a lot more use now. I just wish Leica would do another TL or CL camera that also supports it

Very very impressed with the AF for Panasonic's first attempt, especially with the EF lenses! Also, I really love the Panasonic bike shots!!! Goofing around in a camera store testing AF looks really fun, I'm partly jealous.
I wish i had phase detection AF on my S5, but regardless I'm glad that Panasonic have moved in this direction and as much as i'd want to get my hands on this new camera, My S5 is still going strong and I was able to film 2 weddings with it so far and keep enough in focus to produce an amazing final edit for both.
I just got an S5 four months ago and so tempted to get this new one but dammit I can’t justify upgrading for another two years 😅 contrast focusing until then
My plan is to buy the X on a interest free payment plan while I wait for it to release. Much easier to budget a small amount off a week, and perhaps just living a tad more frugally for a few months so I can still save normally, and then either keeping my S5 as a b cam (replacing my GH5 for event or weddings) or selling my S5 to pay off probably over half the cost of the S5iiX
I'm excited as a Panasonic LUMIX FANS!!! It maybe late but they FINALLY catch up with the Phase Detection AF technology! When I saw it's a review from Kai for over 30 mins, I know how exciting S5 II will be! We all know how good Lumix hybird cameras are (except AFC), it's an important step for them to break the monopoly of $ony. I wish they can also develope a competitor model of A7c, an let MFT/M43 users enjoy the PDAF excitement soon.

Kai is the OG. Very entertaining, informative, still hanging with Lok, and we get to see the sites and sounds of other cultures. I don't normally watch any vlogs but this one was very interesting and showed practical aspects of using the new S5II, illustrating many nuances that other reviewers have missed. I also enjoyed the contrast in scenery from bustling street life to intimate little camera shops after hours. The contrast seemed to correlate with the level of information Kai was conveying.
The Hamburgler sighting made me spit my tea. Great video Kai. I'm not brave enough to attempt making a video in Shibuya, in the crossing, in a mask. I tip my mask to you.
So in other words, panasonic is about to eat Sony's lunch and then bully them for not bringing enough. Lumix + good af is GOAT. Better menus, better ergonomics and camera design, better features, etc. Damn....I might even buy one. Hope they make a gh6II with this pdaf
Just better philosophy in general. Sony's inability to develop a camera that doesnt over heat in order to maintain their small size and high image quality make them unreliable tool to me. Lumix focusing on cameras that simply work in almost every situation you can place them in to me is the real indicator of where the two companies put their focus.

Panasonic getting their autofocus game together is great for the industry. As more cameras are more competitive with each other on features, it makes things better for the consumer with the competition with one another.
Good challenging AF testing. Panasonic didn't need to get it perfect, they just needed it to stop stinking. It seems to work great now. Maybe the "snap to the focus" thing that Sony does can be enabled in a Panasonic menu, it's possible they felt it was too abrupt.
One thing I like about S5II not being as snappy as Sony is, is the feel that looks more organic somehow, like there's still somebody pulling focus nicely instead of the "perfect and robotic" AF from Sony. I think Panasonic should bring a snappier AF in still mode, and keep that smooth AF transition on the video mode.
When I see so much people downvoting because he wears a mask to protect him and other people, I think humanity is heading in the wrong direction. Nice review by the way.
Great photo. Like the longer form factor. If phase detect auto focus had come along when the R5 came out I'd have got this in a heart beat. But now I'm fully invested in the RF system there's no switching now. I wonder if they'll bring phase detect to micro four thirds?
Thanks Kai, your video on the S5II was one of the best! I'm looking to expand my video skill and have been looking at this camera for a while. I also like it since its decent stills and weather sealed making it a good choice for street photography in bad weather - something I wont do with my Sony gear.

That's one thing that has kept me with Fujifilm. The AF doesn't suck. I can deal with WB and color in post. Focus not so much. Though the auto WB is good 95% of the time.
PDAF on the same system as the most useful landscape lens from any manufacturer. And it's the kit lens!! I was expecting that another manufacturer would have brought out their own 20-60 first - largely because of this lens, the S5ii is more tempting to me than any of the canikony options

I bought the s5 thinking we would get a few years of firmware updates. But love the colors so can’t wait to have enough money to buy the other s5 I the one with internal intra and prores
When there is fan there is often sound noise depending of the fan force. Nobody seems to test that in a hot environment. It is surprising it took so much time for a company like Panasonic to create decent AF. Just to say. I had a small lumix in the past but didn’t like the noise. I bought s Nikon D3100 which was good but not in video. I bought now a Sony a7c and i am very happy with photo and video (with a cage to make it heavier and more stable as the camera is very very lightweight otherwise). Sony a7c with lenses tamron wide and tele and a professional flash, a bluetooth remote, and if i want the best stability i can add a crane m3 or weebill 3. I suppose this lumix fullframe must be very good as a newest camera. But now i invested and complete my setup, i stuck with it for many years. You have to stop at one moment and utilize fully your devices.

Finally! Someone tested a EF to L adapter! If you aren't rich, then buying a bunch of L lenses doesn't make sense. You can't adapt E lenses to an L mount body, so EF is the obvious lens choice.
Everybody sleeps on panasonic. I'm a wedding videographer and all the dudes I meet are using sony or canon...they look at my s5 and grin. S5 is the absolute best full frame for the money. Now is s5II makes it a much better bang for the money. BTW, I use AF on my s5 with panasonic 50mm and performance is awesome.
