- This line up is a result both of my head start, and great weather conditions for figs ripening. On the last day of the three weeks long drought, I was able to finish picking just as the rain had started. It was a very long day and night to complete this video, finished filming after 4:00am. How did you get all theses totally ripe all at the same time your collection must be massive
@jamesfrederick. I have around 110 varieties, that helps. Second, about 50 trees were started at the same time under lights. Third, we had amazing first three weeks in September, with no rain, and average daily temperature was around 80F. That really pushed many trees into faster ripening.
Hello. Thank you for sharing. I am getting my first fig tree from a lady in Toledo, OH. She tells me I can plant it outside but I have to tie the branches up and cover it. I hope that is true. I have a small home and I bought some citrus trees this year. I watch a lady in Japan. She eats the skin and all. Is that how you eat fresh figs? I have never ate a fresh fig. You mention in the video being rained on, fig trees cant be rained on?
The Negronne aka Violette Bordeaux is the one I just bought.
Many people eat the skin, some don’t. All preference.
Some figs’ skin has a taste described as being “latex” which some people will not eat.
Hi, you didn't mention where you are, also Ohio? If you are in zone hardiness 7a and lower,figs in ground need to be protected. You should consider growing in the pot if your area is colder. It is easier to ripen figs with a head start. During ripening, most of the fig varieties can get damaged from splitting or spoiling. I am giving you very short answer on a long subject. I like to eat figs whole, skin is in most cases sweeter when fully ripe.
My bealL rippens nicely. Its a honey fig. Im going to say its likely the strain or the source you got it from.
