Wait... if NASCAR has money to change Auto Club into a short track, why couldn’t we just *renovate North Wilkesboro?!...* #SaveTheSpeedway
North Wilkesboro is too far gone. It’s been sitting there vacant for 24 years
Or Rockingham Speedway
@@ethantaube2512 So demolishing a track & rebuilding from scratch is less expensive?
@@ethantaube2512 Still cheaper to rebuild Wilkesboro then to get permits, tare down, and rebuild Fontana
NASCAR don’t own NW or Rockingham that’s why they ain’t rebuilding them instead of California

NASCAR fans: WE WANT MORE SHORT TRACKS
NASCAR: Tears down a track to build a short track
FANS: Why are you getting rid of tracks
Being from SoCal and attending a Cup race every year since 2007 i can say without a doubt that Auto Club has gathered a sort of legend and mystique about it. What i will miss the most is seeing the cup cars scream into turn 1 going 210 +mph.. multiple grooves and great racing.. honestly you have to be there to appreciate it and next year will be our(my) last chance ):
Nascar fans are so dumb.
@@griffinconaway732 Elaborate.
@@yoyo-vz2yt Basically what the man said above: nascar fans will complain and complain and complain about something and when nascar does something about it they still aren't happy. There are tons of people complaining that auto club is being torn down and saying it was a "great track". I assume this is because Bowman won there because NO ONE liked this track a year ago. But anyway fans (including myself) wouldnt shut up about short tracks and now we got one, and people still are complaining. NASCAR screws up a lot but the fanbase is impossible to please.
@@griffinconaway732 trust me i totally understand what you're saying...all i see in social media is complaints and whines and I'm pretty tired of it tbh...even when theres a boring or bad race i keep my mouth shut because you cant always have your cake and eat it too...im just upset that the track that i grew up with is going to be torn down. I attended my 1st race there. I saw the David Reutimann crash in 2007 in my 1st race. In 2008 i got to see Carls dominance. In 2009 we had that huge crash (bucking like a bronco) going into turn 1.. in 2010 i got to see Tony Stewart win and burn it the hell down at ACS in the last September race there..2011 we had had harvick vs johnson..2012 was meh but 2013 more than made up for it with Joey vs everybody and my boy Rowdy taking the win...i literally saw the chopper carrying Denny above me as i walked over that famous bridge behind the stands...i could goo on and on
I saw this news during Civics class and jumped out to my chair.

Can we have a moment of silence for the half of the 2 mile race tracks that are being demolished
As a Michigan native I see this as a win.
Rugar 22 that is true it will now be unique
Of all the 2 mile speedways only Michigan is left. They tore down Ontario and basically rebuilt it as Auto Club, now it's gone. Texas World Speedway is being demolished as we speak to build a residential neighborhood. This track will last about as long as all the other SoCal racetracks, i.e Riverside and Ontario.
Michigan has terrible racing
Chef Boyardee I think the racing at Michigan got stale when they reduced HP so much. When I went in 2017 was awesome to see those cars thunder into turn 1 at nearly 215 mph.
Eric: there are only three short tracks
New Hampshire: just cries in the corner
Technically not a short track

Auto Club: =]
Dover, Phoenix, and Hew Hampshire: -_- are we a joke to you?
I've got a feeling that Jimmie Johnson is going to want to come back and race at the new Auto Club
Ehh
He'll wave the Green Flag for the first race there at the VERY least
@NolanEP Because he wants to try open wheel races and he hasn't won a nascar race in about 2 or 3 years
NolanEP you might be right but just because he doesn't want to race strictly Nascar anymore doesn't mean he hates it. But idk we will see

I see nothing wrong with this.
I wondered why more tracks were not doing this. Smaller tracks give us better racing, lower cost for upkeep, higher attendance, NASCAR or the track owners can sell or use the land for other things. This just makes so much sense. I wouldn't mind seeing them use the rest of the land for a road course, but I know they wont do that lol.

Same I live in San bernadino
Same, I'm sad the racetrack I've been going to for many years is going to be "gone" but beyond glad that'll I'll finally be seeing good racing at the track
My home track is turning to a short track I’m sad but excited for it but it’s a good idea for nascar cause they can used the land for the fans and it’s going to be a cool thing but also I think there might be the new track twice on the schedule
Same I feel bad but I hope there more crash

I love short tracks, but i personally loved raving auto club on nascar heat 2-5 lol
We need more Short Tracks and more Road Courses
California is doing it's part with its two tracks.
And Superspeedways

Imagine how funny Daytona would be as a short track
I've been saying this make a tiny daytona or talladega
This announcement was brought to you by the letter Y, as in...
*_WHY!?_*
SoCal local here: the track’s never been repaved. It’s time was coming. It would turn into current Michigan if they just repave the 2 mile layout.
This is a million times better.
@@danielwest9955 Yes so call here Grand Terrace/ This track needed a change. Its pretty boring racing. Fuel millage. Short track in cali? Shit i'm your boy!!
Daniel West they could have made it into a 2.5 track and it would have kicked ass for the fans.
Goose but that would be impossible, repave would still be necessary, and they most likely don’t have the room outside the current layout of the track to extend it.
Chef Boyardee ok so repave it. an additional half mile would certainly be fine.
If NASCAR does it right, this can be a major win in more ways than one. If they allow for local racing to take place there, and not just top 3 series, combined with the severe shortage of racetracks in California, you would have ungodly high car counts and so many people who would want to race there. It can easily be a very self sustaining racetrack.
Thats very un expected. BUT F**KING EXCITING!!!! YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!! THEY FINALLY LISTENED TO US!!!!!!!!
Edit: This looks like Martinsville (back stretch) bristol (turns) and richmond (front stretch) all mixed together
Hahaha. Thats what they should name it. Better than Next Gen Raceway or whatever.
I could see a half mile track being used more often on a weekly basis. By Midgets, Sprints, Pro Mods, Late Models, Trucks, the list goes on. So maybe So. Cal we gain another track with weekly racing events. Maybe with the extra room. They could add a dirt track and a drag strip. Making it kind of like Las Vegas.
In the future I would love to have a schedule that has equal parts road courses, short tracks, superspeedways, and intermediates
I predict North Wilkesboro will be back within the next 3 years. It's not in the middle of nowhere like most think and the town is growing.
Eric: there's only 3 short tracks martinsville bristol and richmond
Phoenix: am I a joke to u?
@@MyMrsMoon so is new Hampshire and people call that a short track
@@OBG791 I don't
This actually intrigues me and makes me think positively of NASCAR. Great analysis Eric, it's an incredibly smart business decision. The track will likely become much more marketable to smaller series that run short tracks. And this truly goes back to the roots of NASCAR, short tracks baby! I'm a fan for the demo of the two-mile version of the track, there are plenty of intermediate tracks on the schedule. Any tracks that are similar, NASCAR needs to look at. (Atlanta/Charlotte/Texas; Kansas/Chicagoland/Kentucky/Vegas). This is a great step.
That needs to be the intro every video
So conflicted! I’ve been going to Auto Club speedway with my dad since we both started watching NASCAR! I’ll never forget seeing Johnson win it at home - a lot of fond memories but I’d be lying if I wasn’t excited for a short track! Can’t wait to see y’all there! 🤘🏼
Genuinely the most happy I've seen Eric
I could not be any happier with this move. Having a brand new short track on the schedule is going to be amazing.
Im here just wishing we had more super-speedway's
I feel like this is something NASCAR fans can agree on. Just not most peoples top priority.
Nobody wants that shit. Short tracks are where it's at
Daytona and Talladega are enough honestly
Owen Calabrese that’s just the name. The track is actually 1.3 miles long
Was hoping for higher banks at auto club to go along with a re-pave, but this Bristol/Martinsville hybrid will be interesting.
As someone from Southern California, I'm all for this, I've been to a couple races at Fontana and it's just not that good, can barely see cars a lot of the time, the facility is okay but nothing spectacular other than the impressive size.
For a couple years I've thought NASCAR would get a better show getting rid of California Speedway and overhauling Kern County Speedway (1/2 mile short track) and putting a cup race there. But this is cool too as now there are going to be 3 paved short tracks to go see racing action in the area.
Can’t wait to head to the high banks of... Auto Club...?? SHORT TRACK!?!?
C'mon Auto Club is one of my favorite tracks, maybe not for racing but I love to play in it in NASCAR games. The fast great speeds in bumpy roads makes it fun.
So seven Seconds 0:07 into the video we get a hype intro. Now this is going to be An amazing video
Before you say no hear me out. A one mile clone of Bristol. 10 short track races 10 intermediate races 10 r/l courses 4 superspeedways. Add Pocono and Indy. You got a schedule for everyone.
I don't know if I'm happy to have a short track or sad to know that there will be no high-speed with some historic action moments auto club
In my opinion they should have 12 short track races, 14 normal speedways, 6 road course/rovals, and 4 superspeedways
There’s the video I’ve been waiting for all day!!
Putting a high profile short track out west, especially in SoCal, is a fantastic move. Tbh, I can't even think of any local short tracks in California. This is a great move not just for NASCAR, but for American Motorsports in general.
Irwindale is a half mile track that's way closer to L.A. If nascar really wanted a half mile in the LA market they should've gone there. Now we have no tracks over a half mile in all of Socal.
Fans: More Short Tracks?
Nascar: Ok lets tear down a track thats put out some great racing recently.
Yeah because the leader pulling away to 10 seconds of a lead is such great racing.
@@SirKingBoo21 Isn't it a bit strange that AutoClub made what is considered the Best Gen 6 race before the major change in package?
It’s only good because the surface is so old. It’s days as a good track are numbered once the bulldozers come out.
Trust me, it’s my home track. I’ve grown up going to races. The mid 00’s were a dry time.
Not for long. Auto Club was going to be repaved in at least 2 years, and it would've been terrible. This is a needed change to salvage the SoCal market
Riverside, Ontario, and now Auto Club. . . that's a lot of tearing and rebuilding lol hopefully this new track will be a success.
Aw man, Auto Club was my 2nd fav track after Pocono.
Ah man, the best first 8 seconds of your videos ever!
Nascar: were gonna do more short tracks
Also nascar: lets demolish one of the best tracks currently instead of going to one of the hundred legendary short tracks
It's not coming until 2022
Auto club has had a bunch of boring races.

MetalMastodon I mean a lot recently in the past year. The last interesting was 2013.

This is pretty cool news considering I wanted to go to a short track with my dad and he lives in California. This fits in great for what I wanted to achieve
A short track with high banks no less
I wasn't sure about it at first, but you've sold me on it. I'm excited to see what happens.
Well after having one of our largest races this weekend we wake up to this. What a bummer for all the other racing organizations in California that race at this track the other 51 weekends of the year. Good luck NASCAR we will continue to support all the other race tracks that support Road Racing for INDY Cars, Motorcycles and road cars. Very narrow minded
Screw NASCAR. They’re taking racing away from other forms of Motorsport that happens at that track. Track days, road course, drag racing, Autocross, carting, etc. A lot of grass roots racers use the infield (Roval) track for testing and racing. If your a SoCal local like myself that enjoys all forms of Motorsport or a car enthusiast who enjoys taking your street car to the drag strip or track day, you should be upset about this news.
Damn Eric grooving in the intro
The News I see what you did there
They could have done that in the first place in the '90's when Sir Penske put the kibosh on that with his land in... Fontucky!!!! That's when he got his west coast Michigan.....
Auto Club is always boring!!!!!!!!!!
This is my home track I always go to the race but I'm not against turning it into a short track
I swear to god I was so happy, then on Twitter a majority of people wouldn’t stop complaining, saying ‘this is cool, but let’s do it to Texas instead’ like shut up and be grateful we are getting a BRISTOL MARTINSVILLE HYBRID
Ima miss the original but I'm excited for the new one
I would've liked it if they turned Auto Club into a Plate track, called "the superspeedway of the west". Now THAT would be frickin awesome
Imagine if they made Auto Club Speedway into a super speedway instead of a short track
Now we need Roger Penske to come through getting Iowa ready for cup cars. The amount of races they do there I can't imagine it would need much done to it.
Roger is too busy with improving Indy and running the series.
Auto club is the one of worst nascar tracks. Just another expansions cookie cutter track. Im so happy they did this. The next gen will be the one of the best eras for nascar
A short track out west, I wonder if Ray Evernham and Tony Stewart will be trying to get NASCAR to let SRX run there. NASCAR signs everywhere on a different television network.
Kentucky would’ve been my first choice Auto Club is solid
I didn’t know that, but you don’t have to be a jerk when telling me that but whatever
Martinsville with Bristol banking, what a time to be alive
Disappointing... I love auto club speedway.
I’ve been checking your channel since the announcement came down... I needed your take, Double E!
Second. There were like 10 “First” comments.
Couldn’t agree more Eric, something like this is long overdue. Love your videos man, keep up the great work!
This reminds me of the pre-1988 Richmond Fairgrounds Raceway.
I’d also love to see Atlanta go back to its pre-1997 layout.
I would love to see them bring back North Wilksboro and Rockingham too. They could get rid of return dates for some of the 1.5 cookie cutters to fit these in.
NASCAR’ will probably move the spring race to the championship race in the next couple of years. LA market to end the season sounds like a win win. Great weather and big market with a short track for the cup
Your reaction to Fontana was the same as mine. Haha. Literally made my year. Closet track to me so this is great news.
Eric, what the #NASCAR NEEDS to do is make it a 3/4 mile track with 40° banked turns (progressive-wise) & 30° (progressive-wise) on the straights! You’re opinion if you have time?🤔
I can’t even believe this haha. Never would have I imagined NASCAR going smaller on a track rather than bigger.
They should have went bigger. Another plate track would be epic and they’re are already other short tracks they could go to. Greedy bastards.
FYI: The line along the backstretch is where the main pit suites are now. That will look pretty cool.
That's what made Auto Club the right place. They can have a short track on the cheap cause they can build around the current grandstands and pit suites.
The NASCAR gods have started to give us what we want. We NEED more short tracks!!!!!
Now Los Angeles will have two short tracks one in Irwindale used by the Arca Menards West and the Auto Club Speedway
Obviously this will become the Championship race in the near future.
I am so sad. One of best tracks on schedule gone. :(
I live in SoCal so I appreciate the short track pitch to get me excited for a local race. I will miss the 2 mile though, so many great memories!
This was the perfect track to change. I live 10 minutes from the speedway and never went because the races were boring. I’ve been bugging nascar and nascar drivers on Twitter to change it into a roval night races but I can’t complain about a short track. Anything is better then MMS sister track.
Gateway is supposed to replace Chicagoland next year
I like the idea of this, Auto Club as a track has been alright, I can only think of two races that sucked there because the package sucked. It will suck seeing the big track go but I'm glad they are building a short track that is a combination of Martinsville and Bristol
Many people thought I was pie in the sky when I said in a chat a few months ago that nascar would consider reconfiguring some of their Intermidate tracks into short tracks. Well I guess I was proven right.
Love their idea,I love short track racing
Cool more Short Tracks!!!#great racing!!
The high banked Fairgrounds 5/8 th mile speedway at Nashville provided some very exciting racing back in the day. There wasn't a bad seat in the house. Will love to see what Nascar does to a half mile track.
That intro was beautiful Eric haha
A short track near me?.. HECK YEA!!!
I Got 3 near me

So stoked for this. Being my home track it never was the most exciting race to watch but this is better than completely losing the only So. CAL
Now auto club will be better than it never has
