Raoh is an asshole ..... Sadly the vast majority of fans refuse to admit this. I love Raoh but I'm just saying. " I have not one regret in my life! " = literally killed children if you read the manga. " I've never struck a woman before! " Our literal introduction to this asshole is him trying to kill Mamiya with a shit eating grin on his face. Raoh is all about his own pain and his own wants aside from the few and far between moments where he shows some altruism like with Yuria at the end. He aint a hero and he aint better than Kaioh or Souther. It's only Kenshiro and Yuria's love for him that makes them say such things. The idea that Raoh was this great anti hero who did what he thought was right was clearly a late addition to his story and a last ditch effort to run the idea home that he wasn't all bad. This is a recurring theme in HNK which Jagi is ironically exempt from when villains as evil as the other three I've mentioned get a pass. The difference between Kaioh , Raoh and Souther is that Kaioh is the only one who truly shows deep remorse and regret. This puts him above the other two. Raoh is wrong to not feel remorse or regret over his cruel actions and it's just mahco bullshit for him to say he doesn't feel any regrets. Even Toki soul calls him out on this at the very end but Raoh still can't admit the real love he feels for Kenshiro in words. He's forever playing the old tough guy act. Kaioh is better because from start to finish he's more consistent. People try to say he's a copy but what he really is is a refined and better version of the ideas they failed to properly justify and explore with Raoh and Souther. Kaioh has more reasons than either of them to do the things he does because of his decades long abuse at the hands of Jukei and losing his mother. Raoh lost their mother too but he didn't endure the aject insanity that Kaioh endured because of Jukei. Kaioh was in constant emotional agony and despair and his actions are motivated not by foolish pride or some misguided sense of " the ends justify the means " crap but out of his deep pain , anger and sorrow. When Kaioh kills Sayaka he is trying to kill the absolute last reminder of his humanity and to kill his own heart. He wanted Kenshiro and Hyoh to destroy one another at all costs even his own heart. He wanted to destroy the cursed main bloodline which had taken everything from him and was the cause of his lifelong torment. Kaioh never had a chance to be anything else but a " cursed evil blood. " Jukei warped him so so deeply. At the very end of his life Kaioh unlike Raoh and Souther is able to admit his faults , to admit his failings and to from the very depth of his soul to weep in regret and sadness. He cries for what he's done to Hyoh and Sayaka from the bottom of his heart and he CHOOSES death to atone for all he's done. NO ONE else in this series goes to such lengths to showcase their legitimate heartfelt redemption. Kaioh dies with love in his heart he dies reawakening the love he tried to rid himself of for most of his life. He's one of if not THE greatest story of redemption ever told because he shows that this man this man that we were led to believe was the most irredeemable monster of all was actually the most sorrowful man who more than anyone else was weeping for love deep in is soul. More than ANYONE Kaioh was yearning for love.
