SAME. It’s funny how I’m using green color corrector to cut down on my redness and then putting it back lol, but now where I want it. And it’s pink not red. But next time I may just not cover up my chin and let it do it’s thing
I second this! I think she has a berry shade in the Salt New York palettes that may have been forgotten that would be perfect for the vision she had in the beginning of the video!
Please do another video where you do the "HLP Version" of cold girl makeup! The berry blue cheeks, grey blue lips, no or minimal mascara... Would love to see that.
😂😂 I was telling my mother about this trend the other day and her first thought was “blue lips?” (My sister has a body that is not good at temperature regulation and often has bluish lips in the winter months)
“Cold girl makeup” just seems to be the newest iteration for many types of Japanese makeup styles and trends which have been around for much longer than 2018. Lisa Eldridge also has a great video on Victorian makeup and that “cold look” (pinching the cheeks, etc) was there too. It’s been around a long old time
We og make-up officianados have been doing this look for decades. In the late '90s it was known as 'The Snow White Look'. I remember the great Mary Greenwell doing a version of this for Vogue back then. Pinched windswept cheeks, sparkly nude eyes and a bitten glossy lip. Just like with fashion, make-up trends are endlessly recycled and updated.
Yep, I don't think it's a coincidence that "cold girl" is accompanying the recent resurgence of Clinique's Black Honey. People are remembering/learning just how flattering plummier/cooler-toned makeup is on the cheeks & lips. Especially in the winter, w/the naturally cooler ambient-lighting...
I just commented that I did this in the 70’s. I’m 61 now but in high school, in the late 70’s, everyone I knew did their blush this way. A lot of models and campaign ads were all like that 😊
I never stopped searching the Snow White look. Since I started doing makeup I loved that blushy high contrast look-even if I was against popular trends of the moment. So I am happy as an apple to find so many products for it nowadays!!!
Two things: One, I'm delighted you're trying this trend. I've been inspired by it and trying to observe my own natural flush from the cold weather to see how I could recreate that with makeup. Two: "Mr. Darcy said very little, and Mr. Hurst nothing at all. The former was divided between admiration if the brilliancy which exercise had given to [Elizabeth Bennet's] complexion and doubt as to the occasion's justifying her coming so far alone. The latter was thinking only of his breakfast." -Pride and Prejudice
This super-shiny version reminds me a lot of how i did my makeup in highschool when i wasn't doing heavy, grungy looks. Lots of shimmer, minimal liner & mascara, lots of blush all over... very sweet looking & nostalgic
Love this! The thing that gets me about a lot of cold girl tutorials, though, is glossiness or glowiness. If I’m cold and wind-chapped, there is no juice left to my skin, haha. I would be matte af, and I think that’s gotta be universal, right? So I’m always so surprised there isn’t way more powder and matte highlighting, if any 💨🥶❄️ As a result, a lot of this feels more Whoville, "high-concept” cold rather than photorealistic, “I need new skin now” cold.
Not only did HLP invent Cold Girl, she also invented the internet. I really love the more matte version of the cold girl look. I think of Laura Palmer wrapped in plastic, dead but so beautiful.
I think it's so interesting how trends repeat and spread across the world! The cold girl makeup reminds me of makeup trends in Asia from decades ago and it's finally come around to the western side and become more mainstream but reinvented versions for sure!
I purchased the Lorac plum cheek stain you talked about in one of those mentioned videos, so def remember that. Though I imagined your version as more of an autumn ideal-- like the makeup on the teacher in Rushmore as she's walking with Bill Murray during the fall semester, or Helena Bonham Carter in any of those period films. Alas, having just lived through Buffalo's historic blizzard, my own desire for the cold look has evaporated, but I dig your take on it.
As soon as I heard about it I was like, hannah already does cold girl makeup! I love the blush look, I've been doing the blush all across sometimes recently
Sooo. Idk if you noticed, but I've seen a few influencers coping your exact style!!!! At first, I was annoyed for you, but then I thought wow people who have been around far longer are adopting your techniques and then I was proud for you!! You're amazing! Keep up the great work.
I nominate the Wind-Whipped aesthetic as opposed to the Cold Girl aesthetic. Cold girl is snow bunny. Wind-whipped is walking the moors on a gloomy day with loose tresses wild and tangling, plummy-berry flushed cheeks and matte lips, no gloss to be seen, and perhaps a barely there smudge of shadow lining the eyes *for definition* as John Maclean would say.
Yes I remember back in the day, both yourself and Cate the great talking about this (ages ago and ever since) She calls it Aspen cheeks or my favourite, "makes you look like you just had a roll in the hay" 😊
Every time I apply an abundance of lip balm, I think of Hannah talking about looking wind-whipped and slathering on a nice thick layer of lip balm to heal those chapped lips lmao
I actually wanted to comment on your last video to tell you that the makeup is looking really good on you! Now I see that it’s this makeup (or similar). Out of your comfort zone, but honestly I think it suits you! 💕
I definitely think every generation has their "original take" on trends that are seen prior. The cold girl trend is no different lol I do my own version in winter time (and have for years) however, my take is I love plummy/mauvey looks, put on cheeks and nose, and it gives you that "I've been skiing in 20 degree weather for the morning. I love it!
Yes yes yes!!! I remember that old purple/plum blush you had waaaay back when. It looked like your cheeks were wind whipped. You’re the reason I wear purple blush all of the time!
I did my own version of cold girl and agree with your color definition of the blush from the beginning of the video. I have deep skin, so pink on me doesn't look cold but summery. I have one really deep berry, purple blue leaning blush. And when I draped it like in the cold girl look, my friend asked me at the Christmas Market if I was freezing because my cheeks looked like it. I was toasty warm the whole time. I love makeup trends like that. It's a fun way to challenge myself and have a fun play time. I love how your version came out. Hope you had relaxing holidays.
I'm super late, but if you haven't already you should definitely watch Lisa Eldridge's video on this look and her going over the history of the look and how she somewhat coined it originally in the 90s/early 2000s and explained what she used to do vs what the trend is doing now and sort of mixed both together to create her look which ended up being absolutely stunning. Plus she added glitter all over the face at the end (as like a way to mimic the snowflakes on the face effect in more glam way) and I'm 100% here for it.
Omg you crack me UP! 😂😂 “Ooo I’m so coooold. And I’m a girrrl” I died! 😂 I totally agree with your take on this makeup look. I also think there shouldn’t be any gloss on the eyes and cheeks. It does make it look more glam, and not, fresh from the outside look.
I love the cold girl makeup, i do since high teenager, because i was a huge fan of Julia graf and her moscow makeup inspired, she do this cold girl look in her face, and i live in one of the warmest place for México, this was My winter makeup xD
I really love the idea of makeup as a way to mimic various physical ailments. Wind-whipped, frost bitten, feverish, sunburnt, exhausted under eye circles. It all just feels so visceral and important somehow, ya know?
7:10- i have always loved this look idea and loved your rendition, but my sarcastic side has been just WAITING for someone to do this!😂 Yay- i knew i could count on you🧡👍🧡👍
I love this look on you! The frosty eyes and cheeks are super flattering, and as a person with hooded eyes the success you had makes me want to try this too 💖 Also love the expression 'winky splinky baby bird' 🤣
Love it as always! Happy holidays you beaming ray of greased balloon 😂❤️❤️❤️ And... I'm not og length wise for your videos... But I've quite literally watched almost the whole entire channel anyways. I've been around for around 2 years.
this trend was made for you!! the wind-whipped cheeks, the sunburned cheeks (the real ones know that winter sunburn is the actual cold girl look) - you've been on this train for years. I thought the you looked the most ""authentically"" cold after that very first blush application, and everything after that was the Glam version. But so much fun!!
I totally feel like the “cold girl” aesthetic has been a misnomer! What you were saying about how cold weather really makes your skin more matte is exactly what I’ve been thinking every time I see it lol
The look on your eyes allows me to see your irises better, if that makes any sense? It reminds of those days where there is heavy snow on the ground with the sun reflecting off it. Where your other eye looks are very shrouded, mossy, misty forest. I like both!
Ha! As soon as I saw people doing Cold Girl Makeup, I thought of 2018 Hannah and your Nars cheek stain. Loved this version, would love to see your HLP remix of the trend as well.
I can totally attest that you are the OG: when the cold girl trend started a couple of weeks ago, I was like "But it's what Hannah thought me to do like four years ago!" and I have been doing it along with your channel ever since!
This look always makes me think of Hey Ya “Now, what cooler than being cool? (Ice cold!)” Kirsten Dunst’s character in Drop Dead Gorgeous was perfecting Cold Boy makeup in the morgue in 1999
Beautiful! I also add a black liner lining my eyes from the inside and shaped my lash line. I sometimes also wear a bright red. Cold girl is wearing red.
hi Hannah, i wanted to ask you if this is the same look and products that you're wearing in your latest video 'EPIC MAKEUP DECLUTTER 2022'?? i'm just wondering because i loved that look so much
Hehe Millenial call-out about "what's cooler than a cool girl? A cold girl!" Reminds me of the OutKast song "Fellas what's cooler than being cool? ICE COLD! Alrightalrigtalright..."
These "new trends" are just hilarious. This "cold girl makeup" is what I do for years when I have very little time or when I have a really long day and I need to look fresh. And it's what women were doing for centuries if you look at portraits. As for me, instead of shiny eyeshadows I like to use an eye gloss. It's very fast to apply and it lasts all day giving a very fresh 'wet lid' effect.
100%. And before people had access to cosmetics they would pinch their cheeks and bite their lips to bring those “cold girl/english rose” situation about!
I have two glossier blushes (I'm newer to makeup, and pretty minimalist). One is the peachy color they call beam, and one is a pink color called puff. I wear the peachy one in the spring and summer, sort of like a natural sunburn. In fall and winter I wear the pink one and it mimics a cold face in the winter, but prettier. I don't use much, so it's more subtle than this trend, but I think this trend is cute.
Do you have any recommendations for something very moisturizing to put around my eyes? I usually don't have problems with dry skin (I'm oily), but because of a few factors (winter air, use of aircon to keep my cabin warm, recent weight loss which I think has made my skin thinner and more reactive to the air, etc.) I have recently been red and irritated around my eyes. My plan so far: only wash once a day, use Cosrx snail serum, and Pyung Kang Yul Nutrition Cream (because I like how thick it is). But if anyone has any recommendations for a really good serum or method, I'm all ears.
For some Scandinavian Chic inspiration there is of course Jeanne D'Arc Living magazine and it is so amazing. Grey pewter beige wood candles and cold weather fashion. Also Anthropologie Europe Toronto and their main IGs are chock full of so much inspiration. Not make up though. Enjoy!!!! Xoxo from Canada
Thanks to my weird redness fluctuations and rosacea, I've usually got more redness in my nose and on the apples of my cheeks than I can wrangle. So I guess I'm sort of glad it's trendy? I do enjoy seeing your take on this whole thing, though!
I found you and kackie literally because I was looking for someone who did makeup from that one scene from Drop Dead Gorgeous where Kirsten Dunst's character does makeup on the recently deceased and the blush is like huge triangles on the cheeks a la someone who just went skiing, so make of that what you will 😂 The video that really made me hit the notification button though was the one with all the icy sparkly eyeshadow/highlighter comparisons, the one with urban decay's space cowboy featured prominently 💕 Forgot to add: there's another makeup trend that's going round that's like, just cried makeup, so you're all blotchily blushed and kinda damp looking and your eyelashes are slicked spikes, and your lips look bit and swollen, if you wanted to also try that out 💕 my personal prediction for one of the next big looks (and somehow this is the only thing I'm ever prescient about, this and what vintage aesthetic will go popular next) will be like, fresh out of the bath makeup, your skin looks hydrated but it's not wet-looking, in fact it looks faintly powdered, the way you do when you've just wiped down with a towel after a lobster hot shower, with long wispy eyelashes and uneven blush, stained lips and wet-looking messy hair, not slicked wet or oily looking with products, and now I'm rambling so I'm going to let you go 💗
When I've seen people do the cold girl look they use the pink that's almost lavender blushes like that dior one that everyone has like a purple based really light pink.
Wind-whipped Hannah and fjord-frolicking Kackie need to collab on merch... the og cold girls.
At the very least we need some more collab videos they were so good!
my favorite part of the video was "ooh I'm so cold ... and I'm a girl!" had me laughing out loud 💚
Cracked me up 😂
Me too!
I re-watched multiple times laughing harder each time - oh my!
“The winky schplinky bird that just hatched…” As one with hooded eyes, I loved this depiction. Made my day.
I have rosacea , and this “cold makeup “ is me during winter 😂
Same!!! So I would never do this lol
SAME. It’s funny how I’m using green color corrector to cut down on my redness and then putting it back lol, but now where I want it. And it’s pink not red. But next time I may just not cover up my chin and let it do it’s thing
I feel like we need Hannah’s own version of cold girl tutorial
Yes! The OG HLP wind whipped cold girl!
I second this! I think she has a berry shade in the Salt New York palettes that may have been forgotten that would be perfect for the vision she had in the beginning of the video!
I agree! I came here to say this 😊❤
Yes!
@@SimpleTidesI have their blackberry shade and it is divine!
Please do another video where you do the "HLP Version" of cold girl makeup! The berry blue cheeks, grey blue lips, no or minimal mascara... Would love to see that.

yes! i remember chasing the perfect products to get the "snow white look". in the 90s.

Lavender blush is my usual go to for cold girl makeup. It mostly reads bright pink on my skin tone, but still retains a slight blue-ishness.
Two things:
One, I'm delighted you're trying this trend. I've been inspired by it and trying to observe my own natural flush from the cold weather to see how I could recreate that with makeup.

Cold Girl Makeup is very pre-bang, Faber Poets Hannah
Very true

Whoville, high concept captures it perfectly.
i was watching Andreea Ali and she actually said for this look the skin has to be matte. maybe other MUA also said this
I would LOVE to see this berry blue blush cold girl version!!! I’m going to try it also!!
Not only did HLP invent Cold Girl, she also invented the internet. I really love the more matte version of the cold girl look. I think of Laura Palmer wrapped in plastic, dead but so beautiful.

I’d love to see you do a take on your personal, literal interpretation of cold girl makeup with the minimal eye makeup and matte cheeks.
I’ve been doing cold girl makeup because of you for years!! And splink splink baby bird eyes😂
I think it's so interesting how trends repeat and spread across the world! The cold girl makeup reminds me of makeup trends in Asia from decades ago and it's finally come around to the western side and become more mainstream but reinvented versions for sure!
It was in the West already, it just came back again, lol.
‘Tis true. Hannah has been talking about wind whipped cheeks since she was a wee babe. 😊
TBH I think your eyes look really awake! The look has a lovely subtlety that allows your natural eye shape to . . . shine?!
For what it’s worth I’m 61 and in high school in the mid to late 70’s we did our blush exactly like this 🤷🏻♀️
This look turned out so ethereal, love it! I would love to see an updated cream highlight video from you 🙏
I’ve always loved how my cheeks and nose look when I’m cold! Then red nose makes it, I’m so excited for that look to be in right now!!
I purchased the Lorac plum cheek stain you talked about in one of those mentioned videos, so def remember that. I nominate the Wind-Whipped aesthetic as opposed to the Cold Girl aesthetic. Cold girl is snow bunny. “Ooh I’m so cooold. And I’m a girrrl” 😂😂😂😂 I love your style of irony and humor
They're calling it cold girl when I used to say it was an ice queen look. I wore it all of 1998. lol
i love shop your stash videos and you look sooooo good with this makeup look!!!
Yes, love this. You always learn about your makeup preferences when you try to follow a trend.
I love this look! So glad you filmed it. I really enjoy these trends focused on application type and not a specific product.
Love that I get to (virtually) hang out with you! Just had my baby girl and am in my hospital room with her tonight! Gonna chill and HLP together ❤
I would like to see you recreate some old makeup tutorials from ogs like Michelle phan or whoever else you like ❤️
This is one of my favourite looks for you. It's so simple. Youthful pretty. Love.
Yes I remember back in the day, both yourself and Cate the great talking about this (ages ago and ever since) She calls it Aspen cheeks or my favourite, "makes you look like you just had a roll in the hay" 😊
Love your new look - bought two tubes of Chantecaille, Lotus Lip Cristal, Pink Opal - so in love with this lipstick
Every time I apply an abundance of lip balm, I think of Hannah talking about looking wind-whipped and slathering on a nice thick layer of lip balm to heal those chapped lips lmao
It turned out so beautiful! The eyes look amazingly simple and the lip and blush is such a great combo! Happy Holidays!🎄🎉
I actually wanted to comment on your last video to tell you that the makeup is looking really good on you! Now I see that it’s this makeup (or similar).
Out of your comfort zone, but honestly I think it suits you! 💕
For me, “cold girl makeup” is using a cool toned pink/purple blush. I think that is more convincing on my medium brown skin.
I absolutely adore this look on you and am watching this as I do my own makeup and striving to serve #ColdGirlHannah vibes.
I definitely think every generation has their "original take" on trends that are seen prior.
This look always makes me think of Hey Ya “Now, what cooler than being cool? (Ice cold!)”
Kirsten Dunst’s character in Drop Dead Gorgeous was perfecting Cold Boy makeup in the morgue in 1999
Thank you for this gift of a video!
Your light eyes sort of make your lids look heavier, if that makes sense. More sleepy - which lends itself to the cold girl fantasy I feel. Love it
Beautiful! I also add a black liner lining my eyes from the inside and shaped my lash line. I sometimes also wear a bright red. Cold girl is wearing red.
Beautiful look on your. It looks very fresh.
What about Salt New York blackberry?? 🖤

Super cute on you. I have hooded eyes also, so I get you on the just shiny part and no depth.
I assumed cold girl makeup is just the cool-toned winter version of the warm-toned fake sunburn summer makeup look
Thanks to my weird redness fluctuations and rosacea, I've usually got more redness in my nose and on the apples of my cheeks than I can wrangle. So I guess I'm sort of glad it's trendy? I do enjoy seeing your take on this whole thing, though!
I found you and kackie literally because I was looking for someone who did makeup from that one scene from Drop Dead Gorgeous where Kirsten Dunst's character does makeup on the recently deceased and the blush is like huge triangles on the cheeks a la someone who just went skiing, so make of that what you will 😂
The video that really made me hit the notification button though was the one with all the icy sparkly eyeshadow/highlighter comparisons, the one with urban decay's space cowboy featured prominently 💕
Forgot to add: there's another makeup trend that's going round that's like, just cried makeup, so you're all blotchily blushed and kinda damp looking and your eyelashes are slicked spikes, and your lips look bit and swollen, if you wanted to also try that out 💕 my personal prediction for one of the next big looks (and somehow this is the only thing I'm ever prescient about, this and what vintage aesthetic will go popular next) will be like, fresh out of the bath makeup, your skin looks hydrated but it's not wet-looking, in fact it looks faintly powdered, the way you do when you've just wiped down with a towel after a lobster hot shower, with long wispy eyelashes and uneven blush, stained lips and wet-looking messy hair, not slicked wet or oily looking with products, and now I'm rambling so I'm going to let you go 💗
I love those chantecaille liquid blush! I tried the bronzer too, but it was not as good.
Can you please do a video where you create a youthful look ? And explain throughout the video the how and why. ☺️❣️
Could not find exactly what I was looking for online but if I get the print copies I will snap and send on to you. Thank you.
“Oooo I’m so cold….and I’m a girl!” 😂
Makes me think of Morning Ritual’s single cold 🥶 Ben Darwish collab w Shook twins
When I've seen people do the cold girl look they use the pink that's almost lavender blushes like that dior one that everyone has like a purple based really light pink.
This is so interesting as I am living in a freakishly cold city... I will send some photos from a Celtic Icelander brand. Thank you! Xo Joanne
