The way that matte black shadow just drinks and all of the light around it doesn’t reflect anything it’s so compelling. Black eyeshadows always scare me, but that one really drew me in.
This was incredibly satisfying and at the end when you created your own precious jewels palette, I actually felt excitement! Like, the way I feel excited by an unexpected and amazing artistic performance. I really like what you said about joy of being artistic even if you’re a normal makeup person! I’ve been trying to do that too. Declutters are usually not my thing bc people in the youtube beauty space always have so much stuff that it’s overwhelming but yours are so refreshing. Makeup collections weren't even a thing until the influencer age. When I was growing up, everyone just had a small makeup bag worth of items that they used regularly until they ran out, and that was pretty much it. Hell, I don't remember anyone calling the makeup they owned a "collection." Makeup was just a fun, pretty functional item. I hope we can return to that mindset to some extent. There's nothing inherently wrong with collecting makeup if that's what brings us joy. But I genuinely don't think that's what most consumers are after, and are mostly overbuying makeup because influencers are good at influencing and capitalism rules.
After watching the palette declutter I was inspired to go through my ND palettes and just keep the shades I love (and the ones that are still good) and get rid of the rest. I went from 4 down to 2 palettes and they make me so much happier now.
@@rachelforshee6014 maybe you could give it as a Christmas or birthday gift instead or donate it to a women's shelter. Don't keep it if you don't want it, just give away and that would probably make you happier.
This was so satisfying and surprisingly succint. It seems that the muscles of decluttering is at its peak performance and you already had a clear vision in your mind. The end result is still very Hannah and I am so glad you kept UD Lounge!
I love that during the month of vlogmas and hauls, you’re adding really balancing content. Ultimately, anything I don’t absolutely love will meet the same end, so the shiny new now doesn’t have as much sway 😅

I've just now finally finished watching all of your declutter videos, and I have to say I'm truly impressed. I've watched so many declutters over the years where SO MUCH is kept. I've seen so many influencers hang onto multiple palettes that seem to me like functional dupes of each other, and it's such a stark contrast against your end result here, which is a true Hannah edit of the exact colors that I actually see you wear on the channel. At the same time, I can acknowledge that your reasons for getting rid of things would not be my same reasons; for example personally I'd rather hang onto a slightly dusty old matte that I can still get to work (even if it's not at its peak) because I don't have a lot of new makeup coming in so it's more comfortable and economical to just keep using what I have. Just a really thoughtful and actually satisfying set of declutter videos, and exactly why I'm still engaged with your channel when I've drifted away from so many others!
In my opinion, Sydney Grace offers the best quality and the best price for their amazing single shadows. I absolutely adore them. If you’re ever looking to fill some single shadow gaps, I could not recommend SG more.

Watching these ruthless eyeshadow declutter and seeing those gorgeous colors made me revisit my own collection - my one and only palette(a UD Born to Run dupe) I was just about to declutter prior to getting a new one. I am so grateful to find atleast one shimmer that I really liked applied as a one and done shadow, and 2-3 mattes that I can work with. I know I'm being quite a cheapskate but I'm trying to keep my makeup as few as possible for financial and ease of decision-making reasons. The shopping beast is tamed for the time being, maybe until I've panned those eyeshadows. Thank you, your videos really helped me in my current makeup journey
Can def imagine how satisfying this was! I ended up reducing my eyeshadow collection down to exactly six singles. I found a vintage palette i loved, but it wasn't magnetic so I made it magnetic, figured out how many could fit. Six. I knew I really loved that tiny palette, and wanted to keep my makeup simple and fresh. So I decided that every year, I can buy six new singles (from Sydney Grace, I love them). It might sound wasteful to know I throw the old six out, but having this special thing to look forward to each October stops me from buying any other eyeshadow throughout the year, and I personally think that ends up being less wasteful. Plus, it's really really fun. Having just a few shades you really vibe with feels great! I really loved this video. Your declutter series was relaxing as heck!

Well you’ve come back into my life at the perfect time. This series had encouraged me to go through all the stuff I bought in my 2017-2019 makeup binge. I’m even saying goodbye to one of my motherships! I remember when there was a time I felt like I was gonna die if I didn’t get the latest and greatest the day it launched. 😍😍
I've been with you almost since the beginning so it really is a walk down memory lane. I want to dedicate a day to going through my singles. I remember commenting to you how I don't know if I could depot palettes into singles, it felt so messy but you & other creators showed me just how much fun it was to "dupe the vibes" or create your own color stories.

just wanted to say how much you have absolutely helped me. i have a large collection, more than any one person needs or can use, and i've been employing the hannah louise ruthless declutter™ technique when approaching it this week, and i have been able to let go of far more than i have ever let go in the past. i try to approach things with a 'what would HLP say?' when looking at new makeup, or looking at my old collection, especially during the holiday season. the tenets you talk about in your videos when it comes to buying makeup/keeping things have also been immensely helpful, and i am trying to have a more curated collection, like you. so thank you again, hannah, for all you've done, said, and shown us, i appreciate you more than you know! xx
I really relate to what you said at the beginning. I have slowly been decluttering my eyeshadows over the years. I no longer own any palettes, although I have depotted a few shadows here and there. I only have singles, and those are slowly being decluttered as well. I just understand now I am basic.
Curious about where the J.D. Glow shadows are! Maybe hiding for their lives in another magnetic palette somewhere? unless they were decluttered a while back and I just dont remember 🙈

But even your very thoughtful de-clutters have strengthened my resolve to really revel in “good enough” makeup. Is there a better blush out there than the one on my cheeks? I’m sure! But this is the one I have now, and it is pretty and satisfying to use-and the hunt for better will absolutely lead to excess. And just like you, I don’t really need that in my life right now.
Woooowww, I gotta say, of all of eyeshadow declutters this one feels like the most radical. I feel like I've looked at that tiled floor and that amorphous blob soooo many times, but even before you said it I was thinking about turnover. Paring down like this, especially in eyeshadow, just gives you so much more nimbleness and I can only imagine how much easier it will be to navigate! Love that “grungy rainbow”! ❤ If it came as a palette I’d buy it immediately. I don’t know why the grunge is more appealing but those muted tones seem more wearable and I know from experience that they look richer and better in use.

This is so refreshing as I can see that you just shed all the old weight and are only left with the colours that make your heart sing. I have shed 2 singles a blush and 3 lipsticks so far but I think I may go in for a deeper pass to see if I have redundant shades or ones I won't use there is no point in having too many of one shade.

Like many others, I've been doing a bit decluttering (goodbye to the ABH shadows from 2018) and it feels so good to not have the guilt of thinking that I should still love and use things that are cluttering my makeup drawer.

I guess I didn't realize your singles collection was the size that it was! 🤗🙌 Not to promote spending, but I do personally believe you'd enjoy some of the looxi shimmers. I know many poo poo them as a brand, but I personally adore their semi sheer, super sparkly, semi shifty, somewhat textured formula. It's so affordable also which is just a bonus! ✨

Today , no, actually yesterday I semi rearranged my singles on preparation to declutter & downsize them , since I know now what I'm wearing these days , suddenly i feel so minimalistwith my makeup , I can't afford collecting more makeup anymore so my goal is having enough for practical use & fun experiences 😀

Watching these ruthless eyeshadow declutter and seeing those gorgeous colors made me revisit my own collection - my one and only palette(a UD Born to Run dupe) I was just about to declutter prior to getting a new one. I am so grateful to find atleast one shimmer that I really liked applied as a one and done shadow, and 2-3 mattes that I can work with. I know I'm being quite a cheapskate but I'm trying to keep my makeup as few as possible for financial and ease of decision-making reasons. The shopping beast is tamed for the time being, maybe until I've panned those eyeshadows.

Can def imagine how satisfying this was! I ended up reducing my eyeshadow collection down to exactly six singles. I found a vintage palette i loved, but it wasn't magnetic so I made it magnetic, figured out how many could fit. Six. I knew I really loved that tiny palette, and wanted to keep my makeup simple and fresh. So I decided that every year, I can buy six new singles (from Sydney Grace, I love them). It might sound wasteful to know I throw the old six out, but having this special thing to look forward to each October stops me from buying any other eyeshadow throughout the year, and I personally think that ends up being less wasteful. Plus, it's really really fun. Having just a few shades you really vibe with feels great!

Yes, this question has been haunting me. I even went back to a single shadow organization video from the summer and think I saw them there. What happened? I mean, on the one hand, Hannah doesn’t owe anyone an explanation. But on the other, I desperately need to know and how dare!!!

I expected this declutter to be a lot more difficult for you. I imagined a 45 minute long video where you separated everything by color and kept the best of each color, but wow! Well you’ve come back into my life at the perfect time. This series had encouraged me to go through all the stuff I bought in my 2017-2019 makeup binge. I’m even saying goodbye to one of my motherships! I remember when there was a time I felt like I was gonna die if I didn’t get the latest and greatest the day it launched. 😍😍
I've been with you almost since the beginning so it really is a walk down memory lane. I want to dedicate a day to going through my singles. I remember commenting to you how I don't know if I could depot palettes into singles, it felt so messy but you & other creators showed me just how much fun it was to "dupe the vibes" or create your own color stories.
You are crazy ruthless on these declutters! I love the curated end result though. I can see how it would make the remainder of your collection precious though. I wish I could do that. Great video!

This series has been extremely satisfying to watch but I also feel like it would be interesting to see your reasoning for products that are ~easier~ to use up but are still in the world of beauty and PR vs makeup products that tend to be a lot harder to go through

just wanted to say how much you have absolutely helped me. i have a large collection, more than any one person needs or can use, and i've been employing the hannah louise ruthless declutter™ technique when approaching it this week, and i have been able to let go of far more than i have ever let go in the past. i try to approach things with a 'what would HLP say?' when looking at new makeup, or looking at my old collection, especially during the holiday season. the tenets you talk about in your videos when it comes to buying makeup/keeping things have also been immensely helpful, and i am trying to have a more curated collection, like you. so thank you again, hannah, for all you've done, said, and shown us, i appreciate you more than you know! xx

I really relate to what you said at the beginning. I have slowly been decluttering my eyeshadows over the years. I no longer own any palettes, although I have depotted a few shadows here and there. I only have singles, and those are slowly being decluttered as well. I just understand now I am basic.

I’ve been so inspired by your recent declutter series to go through my collection and ask myself if an item is my precious…and if it’s not then I got rid of it. It was exhilarating! I got rid of so many high end products that have made it through dozens of declutters over the years. I’m a bit appalled tbh that I was actually able to let so many items go.
Alyssa Calloway: I really hope you re-homed them with a women's victim shelter, LGBTQ organization, or Project Beauty which gets gently used or new products to those in need.

I am so grateful for your reviews and makeup exploration Hannah, and obviously that cannot happen without quite of bit of acquisition. But even your very thoughtful de-clutters have strengthened my resolve to really revel in “good enough” makeup. Is there a better blush out there than the one on my cheeks? I’m sure! But this is the one I have now, and it is pretty and satisfying to use-and the hunt for better will absolutely lead to excess. And just like you, I don’t really need that in my life right now.
One more salvo in the long march towards more satisfying, more aesthetic, and more ecological consumerism. Well, well done!

Woooowww, I gotta say, of all of eyeshadow declutters this one feels like the most radical. I feel like I've looked at that tiled floor and that amorphous blob soooo many times, but even before you said it I was thinking about turnover. Paring down like this, especially in eyeshadow, just gives you so much more nimbleness and I can only imagine how much easier it will be to navigate! Shkoyach - congratulations - I can't imagine there are too many installments left and I hope you feel amazing about it
Love that “grungy rainbow”! ❤ If it came as a palette I’d buy it immediately. I don’t know why the grunge is more appealing but those muted tones seem more wearable and I know from experience that they look richer and better in use.

This is so refreshing as I can see that you just shed all the old weight and are only left with the colours that make your heart sing. I have shed 2 singles a blush and 3 lipsticks so far but I think I may go in for a deeper pass to see if I have redundant shades or ones I won't use there is no point in having too many of one shade.
May I ask what happened to your JD Glow singles? Did I miss something in the video or weren't they there?

I'm so excited to see what your content will look like with this edited collection! This is all very exciting! Like many others, I've been doing a bit decluttering (goodbye to the ABH shadows from 2018) and it feels so good to not have the guilt of thinking that I should still love and use things that are cluttering my makeup drawer.
Thank you so much for this series. I find it really really hard to get rid of stuff even if I haven't used it in years. But you explaining why and how it's actually better for you to mindfully think about what you need versus what you want really struck a chord with me. I'm not ready to declutter as much as you have, but I have gotten rid of 40+ lip products and 10+ palettes and I actually feel so much better about what I have

Phew! This way way less painful than I expected! I guess I didn't realize your singles collection was the size that it was! 🤗🙌 Not to promote spending, but I do personally believe you'd enjoy some of the looxi shimmers. I know many poo poo them as a brand, but I personally adore their semi sheer, super sparkly, semi shifty, somewhat textured formula. It's so affordable also which is just a bonus! ✨
