Dude, of course you're a minimalist. It doesn't truly matter what number of things you own, it's the fact that you consider each thing you own in a deep, thorough way, that you're willing to let go of things that do not serve you. There is no set number to being minimal-- only a journey to walk, to balance. Thanks for being so vulnerable and showing your mess. I recently reorganized & decluttered, so I've been loving my Rebuilt Boutique as well. Namaste 😌🥂💐
If things are sliding in your drawer and you don’t want to get containers I recommend a sheet velvet underneath the products! Should help to prevent movement 😅
Just a small note of validation: I’m so glad you haven’t stuffed your drawers and vanity top with an assortment of plastic cubes. I know that they can truly be helpful, sometimes. But the idea that our personal belongings in our private homes are only really organized if they are set up like public, commercial spaces is bananas. Moreover, the cubes only have a limited lifespan (we all know they break ridiculously easily) while the plastic itself will outlive our great grandchildren. So let’s say no to infinite acrylic boxes, and say huzzah to items laid neatly in drawers, where the drawer itself is the only cube needed! And thank you for the lovely follow up video 💕
A little bit of a counterpoint: For some of us, having things separated into compartments (whether it's plastic cubes, bins, or repurposed boxes) is _always_ helpful. Years ago, I had all my makeup laid out in a drawer, freestyle. I learned that for me, even though everything had a place, it was a bit too chaotic; I need the order that containers bring. For a while I used acrylic drawer bins from The Container Store. Back in 2019 I finally got a desk to serve as a vanity, with two shallow drawers. These days, most of my makeup is separated into repurposed boxes (mostly notebook boxes), plus an older plastic bin I've had since childhood that fits in there perfectly. (The acrylic bins have been repurposed elsewhere in my bedroom.
I use the Marie kondo way. She encourages the reuse of boxes or the making of boxes for this purpose. I squirrel away boxes to use for organising and it’s very satisfying when you have just the right box for the right task.
@@mizshellytee I totally understand that some folks really benefit from a box-within-a-box system. I also really admire your ability to hang on to plastic containers for a longer time period. I’ve acquired multiple types over the years and they have been mostly short lived ☹but then again, I’m a klutz, which may be part of the problem 😉 And I love repurposed boxes/ containers. That always feels like such a win!
It is fascinating to me how far have you come Hannah. From your no buy year ,trying not to spend any money on beautiful things to now embracing a few of your favorites. ❤ A total 180 and feeling at peace having less, it is poetic in a way 😊
I can relate to being so overwhelmed by the beautiful things you own that they all just sort of start to disappear into each other. I am not a makeup person, but I love yarn. It wasn't until I was using three dresser to hold all my yarn that I started realizing I wasn't actually using any of it, and that I'd forgotten what most of it looked like. Now, after selling 95% of it, I have a small collection of luxury yarns that I enjoy using, looking at, and owning. It's an entirely new thing to own such a small amount of yarn that I can actually display it all with pride. For me, it wasn't even about getting a "minimal" collection, it was about getting a collection that I could digest without stress, and that I knew deeply and understood. That just happened to be minimal as well.
I binge your whole declutter series in one night when I couldn't sleep. And then I decluttered down to less than half of what I used to own. I now feel waaay more inspired reaching into a curated collection of products I actually love, rather than facing a whole bunch of ones that I felt okay about. It's amazing to open a drawer and love everything--you'd think it'd make it harder to choose, but knowing I love everything actually makes it easier. So thank you for the series to jumpstart my new, curated 2023
I have to thank you for being the little voice in my head when I'm getting that itch to spend. You make minimalism feel cool or alluring in a way that truly no one else ever could. I thank you for that. I hope you & your loved ones have a wonderful holiday 🤗💜✨
I'm a new mother, and I'm doing a declutter cause i don't see having enough time to explore and use my whole makeup collection the way I used to. I noticed that all the palettes in my maybe pile have blues in them. I'm exploring but so far I found that I love them visually, but they look bad on me. A great lesson!
Reducing decision fatigue has become such a motivator for me that now it even extends into whether or not I choose to buy something: do I want to have to make decisions about using/wearing this item? Do I really want to choose, regularly, between this and something else I already own? The answer is usually no, regardless of how much I like the item and know I'll use it. Sometimes the greatest gift is fewer options. Re: things rattling in drawers, you might be able to reduce the rattling and movement by cutting a square of flocked fabric (felt, velvet, etc) for the bottom of the drawer. It won't totally stop things rolling but it might slow them down and tamp down the noise a little. I like a free-range drawer too but the clacking and rolling does get old.
I really like your system and find it helpful to see the storage of a collection that is a little more reflecting of a normal consumer collection. I'm still trying to figure out how to store my makeup not just in an effective way, but also an esthetically pleasing way. I can see how being able to see all of your products in one glance, makes you use it more. I too clatter and it's a little unnerving for my mental health. Thank you and happy holidays 😊
I'm in my no buy year, just purchased the new Sweet Tarte Cravings palette and now declaring the beginning of my no buy year, for makeup and skincare. I'm allowing myself to buy clothes, shoes, accessories and things for our apartment to make it more cosy and home-y, while we spend another 2-5 years here as we build our savings (and credit scores!) to buy a house. These are not my problem areas but what IS, is makeup. I spent all of 2022 buying new makeup and I'm taking 2023 to use, love and enjoy what I already have, and I'm also starting school in less than 2 weeks for my associates in marketing and then going for my bachelor's in business admin once we move into a home. You've given me so much inspiration and excitement to really do this no buy year and look inside myself, to do the necessary shadow work to heal whatever it is that needs to heal ❤️
One of my goals for 2023 is to use my makeup more often. I love makeup, but I rarely do my makeup because I either work from home or I end up rushing out the door wearing only sunscreen and brow gel. I think one of the obstacles is how my makeup has been stored: in a bag on a shelf under the bathroom sink. Last weekend I listened to your entire 2022 declutter series while cleaning my bathroom, decluttering my own makeup, skincare and hair care, and re-organising my remaining collection so that I can see everything and it all fits in the one bathroom drawer. It was so fun and relaxing. It also helped me to make a few difficult decisions in favour of an edited collection that I’m more likely to use. I love this series so much. I suspect that I will keep coming back to it whenever I’m cleaning
I just wanted to say that for a little while there I was a bit disappointed that my makeup collection is just the contents of my one makeup bag (this is because my living situation doesn’t allow me to have a dedicated vanity space) - but your latest videos have actually made me appreciate that it’s such a curated collection and I’m excited to use up the products I already own before buying new ones now! You’re such an inspiration - thank you so much for everything ❤
I’m going through my collection too! For the passed two weeks I’ve been using one of my palettes a day and seeing if i want to keep it or not. Now I’m comparing the ones I’ve chosen to keep to further determine if I can get rid of more. Right now I’ve decluttered 6 palettes, 1 single shadow, and I’m keeping 7 palettes! It feels so refreshing to look at your collection and only see makeup that you love ❤
This really is inspiring me to get a bookshelf, for the reasons of organizing my space more. I have some objects that I love, but don’t use because I cant see them. They are just stuffed into my drawer. So now I know what I need to do, declutter and re organize :) Thank you Hannah for the video! Amazing work!
You're literally the only RUclipsr who may have less makeup than me and I love it because I can watch you and not get sucked in buying. I have a significantly smaller eyeshadow drawer but it feels like I have more eyeshadow maybe. I am looking forward to your Lisa Eldridge pallette review because I bought some and I hadn't bought a pallette since May. And they give me feelings. I swear I have worn one all week and I am loving it. All this to say I watch you for thoughtful content, as I stopped watching a lot of RUclips because I couldn't relate to so much because it is just trying and trying new things and when you have makeup you love that's not something you want to spend time on. I stopped watching other declutters because the collections always seemed ridiculous. Thank you for your content. I watch because I like talking about makeup, but I don't like just watching someone try on PR over and over. I feel like my style is very different from yours, but hearing you has helped me find mine. Thanks for letting me ramble.
Wow that's such a drastic difference! I don't remember the last time I felt at peace doing my makeup. I have acquired so much the last few years. 2023 is going to be my year to reign myself in and is everything I've purchased to find out what I truly love. My goal is to downsize to a collection more like what you have by the end of the year. Great video!
Hannah I think this change will be really great for both you and the business of the RUclips channel! It feels a bit like you're finally getting a "work" cell phone/laptop and better separating the personal and professional aspects of your collection. I hope the shift brings you peace
It's helped me to think of minimalism as a spectrum. There are many "minimalists" out there who may not identify that way, but I'd consider them on the spectrum. On one end, you have those trying to reduce the amount they own to only the essentials, ie the bare minimum. On the other end, you have those who are mindful about their consumption and only want to own things that serve them in some way, whether that's performing a function or just sparking immense joy. From a practical standpoint, I'm kind of with you in that I want to own few enough items to where I can see everything, and don't need an elaborate organization system 😂
Hannah! I'm laying here with my napping baby, thinking about eyeshadow, as one does. I've been in pursuit of the *perfect* bronze single shade. Today, it clicked. The reason I can't find anything that is better than my Auric bronze shadow is because it *is* my perfect bronze. I, like you, do the thing where I want more of the thing I already like. In thinking about this, it reminded me that you were recently talking about Tom Ford Naked Bronze being discontinued and that you were considering buying a backup, etc. I'm here to remind you that in your original Auric review, you compared the Auric formula to Tom Ford, and I think even suggested that it may be a better version of the Tom Ford thing. So, perhaps, the Auric bronze could be your replacement should Tom Ford ever leave your collection.
The lack of glitter and black in todays look is so different and cute but so stark a difference since I recently just watched your “collab club-drag” video.
I think your recent declutter videos may be the most soothing and life altering series I’ve ever seen on RUclips. I can’t get enough and keep watching! You’re right, having the only things you can and want to use, instead of keeping everything you love for any multitude of reasons, is so liberating and satisfying. I want to take that approach to everything in life in the new year! Xo
You did an amazing job!!! Clean/organized, minimal coutertops makes me happy. It is so hard for me to upkeep the visual spaces but this is encouraging.
Your look in this video is my absolute fave makeup look. Your vanity looks fantastic now. I’m on a green color corrector journey myself now. I just ordered the Exa one. I think we have a similar complexion so I’m really hopeful it’ll work. The Dr Jart cicapair line is interesting. I know now the green solution won’t work for me but hopeful the other products in my sample set will help. For the drawers: maybe consider using a kitchen drawer liner. They have grip but don’t take up space and will stop the shifting when you open and close it.
In the past 20 years I've come to realize that I come from a long line of hoarders and am a hoarder as well. That "before" pic was almost triggering. :D. I have to "reset" my space on the regular because I don't actually know how to be tidy/organized on the daily. I also have ADHD and find that when my space gets like that my executive function takes a nose dive because I have to expend so much energy to blot that out to work. Since watching your declutters I've been thinking about current no-buy/project pans and am planning a big declutter for the New Year, using your "after" video as inspo. I love the two tier shelf you got for skincare. Drawers are a blessing for people with ADHD because out of sight is definitely out of mind!
If you buy a roll of drawer liner, you can put it underneath your things just as they are and they’ll continue to be as they are, but won’t roll around. It’s cheap as chips too!
I would love to see an updated perfume collection! I'm curious how it's changed since your year of less stuff declutter and if you ever got any of the full bottles you discussed in that video way back when. Much love! :)
Hannah! You should get a pretty non-slip drawer liner for your eyeshadow drawer that way you still have that open vision board of options, but they won’t slide and rattle around as much, to protect your products and visual clutter ✨
I’ve loved this declutter series. It’s such a visual way to evaluate your makeup. It’s literally overwhelming seeing so many products and so relaxing to listen to why you make certain choices Also loved the subtle eye look for this video looked really fresh ❤
It’s interesting hiw many ppl are becoming minimalists, me included… I recently found out that more minimalistic living is sooo helping my mental health, I often felt so chaotic and nervous, now I feel hhhhh….relieved😊
This happens to me with clothes too... if there is just too much stuff, I don't tend to go to that drawer or that area of the closet, and I miss out on good stuff. Paring it down really brings it into focus.
I don't know how you guys do it! I would be so overwhelmed by the choices everyday, but glad you'll go the hard yards for us. Speaking of which, you recently "influenced" me to get Chantecaile elephant eye shade with a gift card. It's so gorgeous and I love it love it! ❤ He's standing up on my dressing table, winking at me...
In lieu of containers in your drawers I had a vision of you putting in some layer of luxurious fabric... Like a soft velvet cushion to hold your makeup jewels
I love makeup, but funnily enough, it was after a single year of having a subscription to IPSY that I realized I did not need that much makeup. I have slowly been using up the products I received and replaced strictly the things that I know I will use regularly. My makeup collection is now around 20 products total. I do more classic/vintage, vampy and simple editorial looks, so the products in my collection have to be versatile and be able to take me from casual to special occasions easily.
I look forward to following you in your new journey. I followed the no-buy year and had similar struggles with spending. We had different paths, but are in a similar space of having the goal of a smaller curated collection that sparks joy and is used and loved. Also watching your declutter was very helpful to me in separating what’s beautiful and what works on me. I have clear neutral-cool coloring and while I love the rusts and grungy tones you wear- they are my worst colors. Now if I see anything that looks like you’d wear it, I know to stay away from that color way.
for the drawers to keep the items from rattling around try putting kitchen cupboard liners inside the drawers. Simple, inexpensive, minimal change still visually spread out.
I'm pretty new to your channel (by way of Kackie) and I really do love it, so happy to have found you. I'd always been very intentional with my skincare and makeup because I was a creature of habit: one skincare routine, one makeup look, and that's all. I bought only 4 eye palettes and 2 foundations in 10 years. Then stuff happened, including 2020...now I'm inwardly embarrassed by how much I've amassed, esp in 2022. Your content is now helping me to ask myself the right questions before pressing the "place order" button, and I've been rediscovering my love (or apathy) for what I already have. Your organization is impressive! Not sure I'll ever get there, but I want to be sure I love what I've got. Thanks for sharing this evolution, Happy Holidays to everyone.
I've not watched the declutters. I'll have to do that. But i can't believe you got rid of a lot of the single eye shadows. You went through a phase where you curated your own little eye palettes. You did have a lot. And all those creme blushes. My bathroom vanity looks like your vanity did. i'm needing a little clean and declutter. I'm not bringing in much these days, only using what I have already.
Your skincare shelf is so aesthetic - and that Okie Henrikson moisturizer is fabulous I swear by that stuff! Also can I just second what other people said about liking that you don’t have a bunch of containers in your drawers? While containers are aesthetic it’s nice seeing it so much more organic - I also might be biased because it looks like how I organize my makeup and skincare. I don’t have enough drawers for everything to have it’s own container so I love the organic nature of it! My eyeshadow palettes and blushes are more stacked up but pretty similar. The being able to see anything thing is a big one for me too! Just also wanted to add that I hope you’re having a good holiday season and thank you for inspiring us to always enjoy our pretty things while not running out and buying every single new thing! I have bought some new makeup over the past couple months and I’m waiting on an order to arrive, but my goal for 2023 is to actually use my makeup and enjoy using the pretty things I have, to enjoy using my red lipstick even if the edges aren’t always perfect, things like that. I have bought what I wanted and filled the gaps that I felt I had and now it’s time to enjoy it while enjoying watching other people enjoy different products in videos. Excited for those goals in 2023!
I used to have a massive collection and I’ve reduced down to a makeup bag, plus a few extras for summer that I keep in a drawer. I still have enough options to be creative, but not enough to be overwhelming. It’s really freeing.
I have a small collection as well, less than 60 makeup items total. I love having less like this than when I had 150 makeup products. I also adore your makeup in this video!
I gaze upon my eyeshadow palettes and Marie Kondo’d the crap out of it right back into my drawers! Love them, despite the fact that no one needs that many eyeshadows! I did get rid of some expired lipsticks and colors I won’t use… win!
Since I severely decluttered my doll collection, I am enjoying dressing and posing them in a way I had not for several years. As you say, when I have an overwhelming amount of stuff, I don't even want to look at any of it.
there's a lot of makeup i would like to own in theory, but i know if I have too much I'll get overwhelmed and just end up using none of it so a smaller collection is best !
I don't wear makeup, not ever. But I do have t clutter and organization problems. This video is encouraging and helpful. Thanks for your videos and enthusiasm. I like your honestly, vulnerability, boundary wisdom, and mindfulness. I'd be interested in any topic you'd like to share.
I love to buy a lot of skincare and makeups earlier at 2017. It was the era when beauty vloggers started to hit the social media. I bought this and that, kind of FOMO. My skin was not happy with that. It had acnes easily. Turned out that my skincare was too much and I put too much makeup product, too. I started to minimize the product to only a few essential. My skin has been improving I also save a lot because I can combine many makeup to many usages, such as lipstick. I could turn it out to blush and sometimes eyeshadow 😂
We are moving houses and I had to take a hard look at my collection today. I’m really happy I got rid of some things and everything has a place. As always I love love love your videos ❤
I watch your videos for quite a long time! You are my inspiration! Im nearly done with my collection. I have only lip products to go through and decide which one are my jewels.
Your makeup in this video is different from what I feel like I've seen you do recently! I like the eye look a lot, I wonder if it would be overshadowed or elevated by using that black gloss thingy you have, the one that you wipe away? You are beautiful, as always :)
Watching this, the first thing I see is just the EDITING in this video. I make videos too so I can visualize this process and it stresses me outtttt. You are appreciated🖤
Everything looks awesome! U inspired me to declutter my makeup, but I still think I need to do a reckoning and I’m putting it off. When I would hear Beauty RUclipsrs say, “This is really hard.” I would think to myself, “Ok, whatever”🙄 but OMG…it is so hard!!! I’m curious to see if I’m going to use what I’ve decided to keep for awhile and then go in for round 2. It was so heartbreaking and disgusting to see how much money I had spent on makeup that I wasn’t even using AND a lot of it is sitting on my credit card😩I don’t usually do New Year’s resolutions, but 2023 is going to b my year of being super picky about what I let come into my space and work on digging myself out of debt. I know now, bc my makeup space was organized and in containers and it didn’t look like a hot mess, that it was ok…but its not. Thank u for teaching me this lesson and giving me some valuable tools to use moving forward.
Wow you look so different with this makeup?? I mean, both this and your usual makeup I like, just I feel like it makes your whole face shape look different, I keep thinking I’m looking at like Kesha or something haha 😅
Your new setup looks so luxurious and useable! Now I'm torn because I love the calmness of it, but part of me hopes you accumulate a bunch of product just so you can do more declutter videos in the future. I loved all of them. :D
You are so inspiring. After your declutter videos, my sister and cousins were sooooo happy about all of their "new" makeup! And I feel so much lighter.
My friend has very small house. I used to tell her it's like a sonnet; it's small and compact, but beautiful because it works within its own parameters, so full of life within the rigidity of its form. Perhaps that's how you can think of your makeup collection?
Me, sees the vanity and calls out, "Hannah"! I'm spiritually lifted with the clearing. I have experienced this joy with other messes of my own. So happy for you. Thank you for sharing the real deal 💞
Are you going to be doing a new project in the new year? If not, are you going to make a video on your budget if you are going to decrease or increase it? 😊💕
Could you possibly do a video to dupe/dupe the vibes of the OG naked pallet by urban decay? It is a staple in my makeup routine/collection and mine is so old and nearing the end of her life, and since its been discontinued for a few years now I can’t repurchase 😭
announcement: the makeup declutter is actually in seven parts. I can declutter but I can't count
So many videos, you almost decluttered one 🥲 I loved this series
It’s ok! In the words of Peter Monn: I don’t have my glasses on- I can’t do math.

This is the vibe! ❤
Love this reaction!
I love this!! It's so true. A minimalist isn't just someone who lives in a beige sad room. You're right, it's all about intentionality.
Love this. thank you so much!
I saw this comment and wanted to say "girl, make more videos", but I peeped your channel and you have!! 😍😍😍
Definitely appreciate seeing a reviewer who recognizes the importance of prioritizing mental health around owning things.
If things are sliding in your drawer and you don’t want to get containers I recommend a sheet velvet underneath the products! Should help to prevent movement 😅
I use one of those non-slip sheets to keep my skincare from sliding around. Arguably not as aesthetic though 😆

so true!! i cant hlp but feel that the impulse to put everything in its onw little acrylic box is not an environmentally friendly habit

Your makeup feels so in tune with this video today. Fresh, minimal, beautifully curated!

The drawer IS the container! This is so functional!
This really is inspiring me to get a bookshelf, for the reasons of organizing my space more. I have some objects that I love, but don’t use because I cant see them. They are just stuffed into my drawer. So now I know what I need to do, declutter and re organize :)
Thank you Hannah for the video! Amazing work!
Omg how I love your videos! No matter how anxious or sad I am, you give me that ,,calm'' feeling, I can't describe
thank you Elene!
This was a lovely way to recap the declutter series! Also your eye and cheek make up is dazzling in this vid! Wow wow wow.
Unrelated to the video topic but I really like this soft shimmer makeup.
Your cheeks and eyes are ethereal
Yay love me some HLP on a snowy Pennsylvania day!
Same here! It’s so windy and cold out right now!
I can’t thank you enough for inspiring me to continue loving my own collection. and save money ❤
The lack of glitter and black in todays look is so different and cute but so stark a difference since I recently just watched your “collab club-drag” video.
i was just shocked that you kept the Gucci palette and decluttered others
Much love! :)
Your collection is so well-curated and aesthetically pleasing! Very inspiring! Happy holidays to you, Joe, and Sadie!
I’ve never needed a tutorial for a makeup look more than I need a tutorial for this look. PLEASE
Hannah please 😍
Thanks for your honesty about what your space got to lookin like.
I cannot wait to try your tutorial for this makeup look! I hope I look 1/10 as gorgeous as you do in this video!
It feels so good to not see the white ikea storage for once.
It’s really freeing.
i LOVE storing and organization videos, they scratch my brain just right
You look so dreamy! That sweater and hair combo 🥰 can’t wait for the cold girl makeup vid
Oh Hannah, I LOVE it!!! Spectacular!!!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻😍😍😍😍
Thank you so much for being you ❣️ wish you and your loved ones the merriest of Christmas and a very happy new year!!!!
I have a small collection as well, less than 60 makeup items total. I love having less like this than when I had 150 makeup products. I also adore your makeup in this video!
yessss I was dying to see the overall after
now I am revived
I love your vanity desk and bench!!! Please tell me where you found!! ❤️
That is super satisfying! And your space is absolutely lovely!
Hannah your makeup in this video is stunning
My skin has been improving
I also save a lot because I can combine many makeup to many usages, such as lipstick. I could turn it out to blush and sometimes eyeshadow 😂
I’m so early but I’m excited for this! :D
I AM IN LOVE WITH YOUR LOOK TODAY!!!
Very much enjoyed this vid! Thank you! I am trying to organize myself before my baby boy arrives and I do find your vids inspirational always. 💙
I am going to organize my stuff.
Inspiring !
Your makeup in this video is different from what I feel like I've seen you do recently! I like the eye look a lot, I wonder if it would be overshadowed or elevated by using that black gloss thingy you have, the one that you wipe away? You are beautiful, as always :)
Woot woot!! I loved that 😍 thank you for that lovely video this morning!
It feels so good to do a declutter.
Admirable declutter! Your vanity looks so pretty!
The less you have, the faster it is to reset your spaces. Its my primary motivation to declutter/organize
Was wondering when the Lisa Eldridge eyeshadow video is coming? I'm so curious about your opinion ☺️
it's in the works! Hopefully by the end of the year
My friend has very small house. I used to tell her it's like a sonnet; it's small and compact, but beautiful because it works within its own parameters, so full of life within the rigidity of its form. Perhaps that's how you can think of your makeup collection?
I literally just got done declutering I am so excited
Hi! Now that you've decluttered yours shadows, what do you recommend best for a gold/champagne shadow to add a pop when creating a bridal look?
All of the footage is just so beautiful~!
Your draws look fine. I have enjoyed this series
I love your makeup look in this video. It almost seems a little like the “I’m cold” makeup trend! 🥶
that's what it is! I filmed it, the video will be up in a couple of days :)
I LOVE your makeup look!
thank you Alyssa! I filmed the look, the video will be up in a few days :)
You look BEAUTIFUL in this video-the makeup, the outfit, the hair! Do you mind sharing where this sweater is from?
it's by Pistola Denim, it's a rental through Nuuly
Ahh, room to breathe, balance is key. ♥
