I love Konmari, really changed my mindset. And yes on the "joy" becuase sometimes you find things you didn't use but it was because of disorganization. I hate it when organizers are like you didn't use it/wear it throw it out! And its like no, get rid of the stuff you're wearing and don't like much and start wearing/using the thing that's just been sitting there being "saved."
I totally agree with you that you need to get it ALL out with skincare, haircare and makeup. I recently did this and it was 3 tubs full!!! I’ve been shopping my own stash and using up what I have since then. I discovered that if it was a face cream I didn’t like I’d force myself to use it on my neck, chest or hands. Also I stopped jumping ship on products and buying more. Not all skincare gives immediate results and I had to learn that.
I'm glad I don't use any makeup at all lol. I think I tried when I was a teenager but never got the hang of it so I quit. I've probably saved thousands of dollars. I have great self-esteem and I have no problem with other ladies using makeup but it's just not for me.
I too never got into make-up.I had eczema quite badly in my teens so had to be careful what I used. I remember once I went to a session where I had a makeover and it looked OK but still couldn't wait to get home and wash it all off!! It felt like I was wearing a mask. Now and for the last 50 years I have simply washed my face morning and night and then either day or night cream. I just have shampoo and conditioner for my hair. Aloe vera gel as a hand cream if necessary and a foot cream for rough heels. I just replace when I am nearing the end of any product. That's it!
I wouldn't dare let you come into my house to see all of my hair and skin care products along with my make-up. LOL! I've always been a make-up junkie, and finding the beauty bloggers on RUclips just helped with my addiction. I'm slowly trying to use up my stash and not buying anything new until I absolutely need it. I know I will never be a minimalist when it comes to beauty products, but I do want to get down to a more reasonable amount. Thanks so much for the inspiration. Maybe in time, my husband will be able to find room in the bathroom cabinet for some of his things. 😄
The other day I went through my makeup and beauty products that I wasn't reaching for so that I could give them to my sister BEFORE they expired. She never buys anything for herself and needs to replace a lot of old, expired makeup and skincare. She was so appreciative and I still have plenty to choose from. I'm on a replacements-only No Buy this year! I've always been happier with less. I'm not an essentialist in terms of minimalism but I never like being overwhelmed by too much stuff. I am a beauty-product lover though and always have been. If I have 5 lipglosses I appreciate them so much more than if I have 20!
That's a lot of skincare products u use. I just us coconut oil for skincare and , like u, recently I bought castor oil for different reasons and I haven't seen the benefits either, but it is still kinda new. This was a great video, I need to clean out mine, haven't done it in a while. Thanks for ur great tips always.😊
You are so welcome! Also - since I filmed this video I've been using the castor oil at night as a last step in my skincare - and also on my hands and I definitely noticed my skin is no longer dry and flaky in certain areas! I struggle with dry skin in the winter but the castor oil seems to be helping a ton!
"Dry, scaly eyes don't spark joy." 😆 I only use an eyebrow pencil and lip balm. I can't stand the feeling of anything else on my face. Eyeliner doesn't bug me in that way but I'm allergic to everything I've tried so I'm over it. I'm happier with the time it saves me and taking that mental load away of having to always be conscious of not touching it and having to periodically check it and reapply.
@@tarynmaria_ Same... C0VlD really messed up my immune response and now I have an autoimmune disease (Hashimoto's Thyroiditis) and more (over)reactions.
Cool, thank you so much I'll have to check it out! I want to try an eye cream for fine lines but I haven't used one in so long now because of the irritation.
I have a hard time getting rid of expensive makeup even if it was gifted to me. I think my newest blush is from 2019/2020 and it was gifted 😅 I have a ton of nail polish where I don’t really wear the color but they were all gifted. Maybe I should get rid of some of the very old stuff.
I decluttered my beauty stuff yesterday and I still have too much....ughhh. My niece is a freelance makeup artist and I am giving her all my unused palettes, highlighters and blushes. I accumulated all this when I subbed the beauty boxes. They are great but most of the time you are sent items you will never use. I have used castor oil since the 80's not just for beauty but for therapeutic use like inflammation, joint relief, cramps etc.
You need to check your expiration dates !! Most creams and lotions are only good for 6 months after opening. Your powder materials are good for about 1 year from opening !! On the back of your products there is a picture of an open jar with a number - that’s how many months it is good after opening. Using products after expiration can cause eye infections or acne. Please don’t use old products “to see if it’s okay”. Eye products should never be shared with others.
@@lauras4472 ok then you must know that many people use Konmari as a verb and when a lot of people decide to use a word in a certain way it gets adopted as a vocab word and that's how languages work and evolve. I love good grammar as well but this doesn't seem like a worthwhile hill to die on.

Yes - such a good point! After this declutter, I'm now using an eyeliner I had and hadn't used before :)
I didn't know this is a method. Im doing this type of declutter decisions since college days. ❤

Yes so true about the results! Also great idea about using the cream elsewhere! Now I wish I’d saved my eye cream to use on my hands and neck! 😊

Hahaha don’t even worry! I am definitely minimal in some categories and more maximum in others. Do what works for you! 😊

perfect timing! im getting a totally unnecessary Ulta haul today. im going to clean out the old stuff right now
Great idea! Maybe you'll even found some stuff you forgot you had (like I did!).
Watching this because my wife has an ungodly amount of beauty/skin/nail/hair/lip/etc stuff that’s driving me f***ing insane

Castor oil can be used on the skin for dryness hair for hair growth including brows and lashes
Thank you - I've been using it since this video and I'm loving it! So good for dry winter skin!
I have very sensitive eyes, too. I find the No.7 eye creams from Boots doesn't bother my eyes at all ❤

@tarynmaria_ No7 Protect & Perfect Intense advanced Eye Cream is one I've used, which didn't irritate my eyes and brightened them up.

Use the caster oil on your lips and face. Now that you’ve discovered what you have use it up.
Since I filmed, I've actually been using it on my face and hands and I"m really enjoying it!
At my 55 years okd, Ionly have: 2 eau toilette, 4 hand cream, 4 foot deodorant, 2 body deodorant, 2 solar shade, 1 tretinoin, 1 eye cream, 1 night cream, 1 lip gloss, 1 lip balm, 1 eyelash mascara and 1 loose powder... nothing else.
I have so much more than 40, is this only makeup or skincare included
This was mostly makeup!

I have to use CLINIQUE ……..no more skin irritation
YES! I used to use Clinique All About Eyes (the rich formula) and I loved it!
When you didn’t put a towel down on the bed it gave me anxiety. Things spill.
I'm living on the edge over here 😂☺
Sorry Taryn but I feel you have way too much, especially skin care.
... she has perfect skin. Whatever she's doing, it's working! 💝
You are probably right, Cheryl! I know I still have way too much skincare!
Konmari isn’t a verb!
Actually it is! :) www.dictionary.com/e/pop-culture/konmari/
Marie Kondo is a person who created The Konmari Method so it's become acceptable to say, "I Konmari'd my closet".
@@AngelissimaASMR I’m aware of who she is
