I’ll never forget the first time hearing this on a SHITTY Toyota Land Cruiser radio on the drive home from a gold mine about 20 years ago while thinking “the drummer is certainly earning his paycheque on this track”
that feeling when you're 40 years old and you had a very, very tumultuous time in your 20s and then you forget about an album that was pivotal to your time living and partying in NYC as a 21 year old with an unstable identity and then you hear the first bars of one of the songs and suddenly you can smell the perfume you used to wear, with an undernote of the cigarettes you used to smoke and you can taste the drip in your throat from all the cocaine you were doing
When I used to go out, I knew everyone I saw, now I go out alone, if I go out at all... Wow... I can’t thank you enough for acknowledging how things are so difficult for some of us... we love you so much more than you’ll ever realize... xx
I'm now 56, and obviously I've got a huge back catalogue to choose from. And it so much depends on my mood, but, if I had to name my top ten tracks of all time. This makes it in. No ifs, no buts.
Claro Carlos, es lo k tiene la música, te anima tu estado, hasta si estas depre y te pones música depre te anima de alguna forma con que poniendo música más enérgica como esta...
I loved this (and still do) so much. I loved the fact that they were dressed in such a plain, nondescript style, all had plain short haircuts, the crude lettering of the band name on the drum, the lo-fi video. It was as if they had put everything, EVERYTHING into this incredible, intense, focused knife blade of a song, and they knew that all the rest was superfluous.
This song that comes into my head every once in a while, and I go nuts trying to remember what it is. But then I find it and listen to it for like 10 times in a row, just to get it out of my system. So much energy in this tune, amazing
The whole time I was watching this I just kept thinking the lead singer's clothes and mannerisms were just like Julian Casablancas lol even holds the mic the same way.
[Verse 1] You've got a nerve to be asking a favor You've got a nerve to be calling my number I know we've been through this before Can't you hear me? I'm calling out your name Can't you see me? I'm pounding on your door [Verse 2] You've got a nerve to be asking a favor You've got a nerve to be calling my number Can't you hear me? I'm bleeding on the wall Can't you see me? I'm pounding on your door Can't you hear me when I'm calling out your name? [Bridge] When I used to go out, I would know everyone that I saw Now I go out alone, if I go out at all When I used to go out, I'd know everyone I saw Now I go out alone, if I go out at all When I used to go out, I'd know everyone I saw Now I go out alone, if I go out at all [Verse 3] You've got a nerve to be asking a favor You've got a nerve to be calling my number I'm sure we've been through this before Can't you hear me? I'm beating on the wall Can't you see me? I'm pounding on your door
Learnt the song from Colin McRae Dirt 2 , have played and sang it live once with a band in my university. This is a very powerful song , and very nostalgic . I even had it as a ringtone for a while !
First time I ever heard of this band was on The Conan O’Brien show a long time ago. Instantly was blown away at the song and performance. Insanely good
No matter how many amazing tracks I put on my 00s era mix cds(made for friends and gfs) this song was always asked about. The Rat had that urgency and sound people gravitated to not knowing who it was. This cut made most every mix coz it’s stone cold awesome.
Sorry I missed you guys in DC last year. By the time Sturtevant was trying to hook all that up, it was on the fourth or whatever night of added shows. Stoked you guys are back on it; for those about to rock, I salute you. BW
WOW!! This takes me back to when I was 15 an wore the grooves off The Saints first 45 'I'm Stranded" That feeling when you feel like you been hit by a train - but in a good way!
A song on the soundtrack of my life. Representing the dissolution of love after moving to a big city, and thinking that everything was going to change for the better. All the drunken nights of listening this song have imprinted it on my mind forever.
Who in the fucking hell can not feel that raw beatiful power, love, agony and theres sweeeetest pain that they give(gave) us..... forever and forever in millions of years. I'm yest a nobody from Sweden ! But i do know when i heare something specialspecial right Into my heart 🤟💯👏💪😵😎😀
*Song comes on unexpectedly* 'DAMNIT! There's my earworm in place for the next fortnight!!'. I love this track, but it has been the same story for decades now!! NOTHING etches itself in my brain like this song does!!!
I feel for the guitarist. The sound is much more consistent to keep all the chords on down strokes, but when you're hammering them out nearly four times a second, your arm starts to tense up and your shoulder starts to hurt. you can see him switch to alternating down-up a few times in the video which is much easier on your arm. i wonder if he managed to keep it up for the entire recording. It sounds phenomenal regardless.
Who's here in 2024!!? Damn, this is nostalgic! Such a great ass song!
Boxing day 2024 .....what a belter of a tune
still one of the greatest songs of all time
It is
Yup
I’ll never forget the first time hearing this on a SHITTY Toyota Land Cruiser radio on the drive home from a gold mine about 20 years ago while thinking “the drummer is certainly earning his paycheque on this track”
It is! It is! It's ridiculous brilliant!
You just reached 300 likes, and welcome back to that great song 😊
The most criminally underrated band of all time.
its probably bc this song is very unlike the rest of their discography. this song is a deviation in terms of style from what they normally do
nope
Just hearing them for the first time now. Definitely underrated
They sound like The Strokes from wish
@@danielatherton1631 I like them a lot but they def sound like the strokes
"when I used go out I would know everyone I saw, now i go out alone if I go out at all" 🖤
^This.
@@TubeOrNot2Tube Always the line that got me, even when I did go out and I knew half the people I saw...
One of the best lines ever.
I’m a 54 year old Englishman. No kids. Never Married. This is my Soundtrack ❤🏴👌
52 year old Aussie here, divorced- no kids. It’s actually MY soundtrack.
Enjoy yourself innit
I'm 71 and don't understand why I haven't found this song until now.
I’m with you
Man they really gave their all on this one. The energy is infectious.
Ah - to now be 43 making oatmeal for my little boy at 7am still listening to this. One of those timeless, well crafted tracks.
that feeling when you're 40 years old and you had a very, very tumultuous time in your 20s and then you forget about an album that was pivotal to your time living and partying in NYC as a 21 year old with an unstable identity and then you hear the first bars of one of the songs and suddenly you can smell the perfume you used to wear, with an undernote of the cigarettes you used to smoke and you can taste the drip in your throat from all the cocaine you were doing
Man I'm only thirty years old and I understand your words and your feelings.
Hope you're doing good !
I love the way you described this. i hope you are writing. You are a writer!

I'm 42, liked this at 25 etc... am now a crack addict lol. fairly mundane life eh?
An anthem. It doesn't get any better than this...
Never EVER get tired of hearing this. The Walkmen can be happy that they have created one of the best songs of all time. Job done lads and thank you.
I'm now 56, and obviously I've got a huge back catalogue to choose from. And it so much depends on my mood, but, if I had to name my top ten tracks of all time. This makes it in. No ifs, no buts.

From the very depths of hell, it brings my soul back into the light ✨️
I play 'Young Americans' by David Bowie. It calms me down or brings me up.

Those drums...WOW!!!
Love the sound of desperation in this song
When I used to go out... Just such a fucking great song! Start to finish! Goosebump shit!
The Only other Group from NEW YORK CITY that can give THE STROKES some serious Blank Generation Firepower!!!!!!!!

@@lucassage554 So it's not the same guy then, right.
I'm knackered just looking at them!
Such a British comment!
Love it!!
Still the best song ever! So great to see these guys playing again in London a couple of months back, what a night that was!

Nice one 👍
I was in my 20s here in New York and there was a lot of great music coming out at this time like The Strokes and this underrated band and song
Relevant in isolation 2020 - now i go out alone, if i go out at all :/
I would love to see them live, I never had the chance.
Dang had no idea they weren’t a band anymore
@@ivanvargas2425 They are on hiatus so technically they aren’t broken up!!!
The lead singer makes amazing solo music though. A lot of it is very similar to The Walkmen
they were really, really good
Saw them in early 09. Beach House opened for them. That was a good show.
one of the best..... I absolutely love it always, anytime, always ready for this song......
Just like that, a masterpiece is created
the bass really sets the message that is being conveyed
The drummer of all drummers

There's something so The Animals era 60s about this song. Like time travel. Love it.
First time I ever heard of this band was on The Conan O’Brien show a long time ago. Instantly was blown away at the song and performance. Insanely good
I was just watching this performance the other day
I still go back to that performance to this day
