And I ask "Is your name Frank?" And he replies "Yes" and I started to fanboy. He was very kind and humble. Such a surreal moment for me that I won't soon forget.

Well he eventually came to the register with some clothes and was standing in front of me and my heart starts racing because i'm almost positive it's him but i'm trying to do my job as well and trying to take the security tags off his clothes but i'm shaking and dropping stuff because it's Frank Black for Christ's sake and I keep looking up and staring and that's when he asked "Is everything alright?" I have been watching this band perform this song for 30 years now and the last couple of years it has become an almost religious experience. It has transcended everything it has ever been before and ascended to a plane of pure sonic joy for me that nothing else has even come close to. I'd say that in its current incarnation, the live version has achieved perfection, but that doesn't do it justice. It's perfect, but it's perfect even for a Pixies song. There is simply nothing to compare to the experience of standing in the middle of a dance floor in a crowded auditorium, eyes closed, gently swaying to the calm-before-the-storm bass groove, knowing that with each controlled-chaos verse, hell is going to break a little more loose. By the time we get to "break the walls and kill us all", I am screaming the words back at Charles Thompson with the understanding that though he wrote them, I am feeling them, because that is his will. This song, and the way it is played today, stands as one of the greatest rock and roll achievements of my lifetime.

I think a strong appreciation of their '90s material is essential in coming to that conclusion, which is something that sadly far too many Pixies fans lack. Those are the albums that raise the Pixies from a band that can hang with (and often better) the best Rock n Roll and Punk bands to a band that can hang with the best "serious" pop and art bands (Beatles, Kinks, Beach Boys, Pink Floyd, as well as stuff they inspired themselves like Radiohead and Arcade Fire). @@clancykobane9102 3K for a bass is some serious coin
@@TracyLanebike I may be wrong but I think they were being sarcastic that it has a fake store bought 'worn' look. At any rate, Paz has been around gigging for a long time and I tend to think the wear is real.
2001 Monolithic 🎯
Tracy Lane
The bass is from 1969 so 50 years old
David Lovering rules on them skins. He’s tight and loose at the same time. Great groove.
Perfection, no other way to describe it
Pure, strong, simple. Ageing well. Definitely one of my all-time favorite. Love you Pixies!
They are killing it still huh?
One of the most influential bands still doin their thing.
Bass is absolutely perfect and hypnotic
Man, they are super tight. Joeys guitar sound is so good.
He used to be able to get those same sounds with nothing but a Les Paul and a marshall now he has a pedalboard the size of a table
The Pixies , brilliant. Saw them in Curitiba Brazil around 2005 when they re-formed. One of my fav all time bands..
Timeless bass 🔊
aaahhhhh pinches Pixies! That was a superb performance! See you guys on your 2020 USA tour!
pinches putos pixies alv
CHINGONES!!!...
Paz and Dave in perfect harmony!
A masterpiece
one of the most underated bands of all time
not to some...and if you mean by popularity...you don't get it
You know, this is always the comment on bands that are always rated? Pixies aren't underrated at all. Everyone knows them, they had hit singles and albums, they filled and continue to fill arenas. Save your ire for bands that truly are underrated please, this is just lazy.
Sublime!!!
Paz and David, the rhythm section from heaven..... the fabulous guitar histrionics and bellowing vocals equals the most important band still around today.
Loved them 30 years ago.....and guess what??????
Love even more now!!!
Paz is an asset to die for!!!
Loved her in Zwan.
Love her in Pixies TONS!!
At Alexandra Palace, they just tore it up!!
Awesome!!!!❤️❤️🤘🌹
I was 16 when this song was first released and a
young punk rocker at the time, after 5 or 6 pernods and black currants we would love dancing to this because it's so catchy❤
The texture/lyrical/musical genius that Charles and Joey created together is lightning in a bottle that won’t be seen again in anyone else for a long time. Can’t forget how much Kim brought to the table either.
Never heard this song before. I'm in shock. :OThis is so good.
Where have you been???

Just buy all their records. Twice.
@@omgwtflmaololrotfl2368 that one's the ultimate version of Gouge Away. Sometimes I stray away and look for other versions that might be as good, but none ever came close
Wow! I think this might be my favourite version of this song. Love the Pixies.
After building the tension for over two minutes that chorus really comes crashing in bringing a wave of relief.
Good comment finally
Exactly. Pixies are all about contrast between bassy calm verses and noisewall choruses
Nah, bro. It brought a wave of mutilation.
I'm in love with that bass tone.
Every day I watch this - and I watch it everyday - somehow, some way, it just gets better and better. A masterful performance that is everything Pixies are. Behold, this is pure brilliance.
First time hearing. Very nice!
Espectacular
no es sencillo, para nada. una flor es sencilla? solo si no sabes nada. ;)
Su complejidad está en su simpleza
I watched/listened to this 50 times at least. Love it.
I saw them open for U2 in Pittsburgh around 1992
As good now as they’ve always been, simply incredible how good they sound after all these years. Never leave us Pixies ❤️

Saw them in Cardiff two days ago, went out for a cig quick came back in only to hear the last note of this song. Long story short, I've quit smoking.
Dude, that sucks. I'm seeing them in 2 days at Leeds!
Who the fuck goes to smoke during the show, Ive been smoking for 10 years and have never done that
Malaysian_ Asian were a lot of the songs played off their new album?
@@ojasvipatel1281 setlist.fm is a great site!
Maybe just try and quit being dumb as spit. Leave during Pixies. Maniac.
The layers work perfectly together in unison. The perfect song executed without hesitation.
Always been my favourite pixies song and god damn it was good when I saw it live.. yes kim was great but I’m so sick of people not giving Paz the respect she deserves. She had big shoes to fill and I am never going to forget hearing this !
Still some of the greatest music I've heard and it came out in 1988
Love the groove ❤
Pretty awesome and intelligent..don't underestimate the time of the nineties rock the world 🎉
I have followed a few bands since my childhood and Pixies have been the only band to not let me down. Consistently Pixies while ever evolving
A master class in class. Hats off to you Pixies.
The balance of that bass, damn...gives me goosebumps!!!
