"When i use to go out I knew everyone i saw, now i go out alone if i go out at all." It rings even more true now than when i first heard it 20 years ago.
The Walkmen is one of the most underrated bands in music history! The songs are melodious and have things to say, the band members put all efforts into performing their songs! I deliberately don't wanna use past tense!
These dudes play like they're playing for their lives. One of the best songs I ever heard in my life and I'll be sure to make sure my daughter plays this when I leave this poisoned crust 🤘😂
Yeah dude was trying to figure out like I think only a BD a snare a Tom, hi hat and maybe a small ride cymbal! Not sure! Dude kills the minimalist set though for sure!
i seen walkmen at a small venue. less then 50 people were there. they played like they were at a sold out stadium. i will always be a fan of all theese guys.
Still to this day, The Walkmen are one of the best bands to come out of the golden era of Indie rock. I still hope to catch them live since they reunited. I can remember the first time i saw the video for The Rat on MTV2 like it was yesterday
I used to sing "In the new year" and "The rat" outloud as I walked to summer school back in 2009. These guys are so nostalgic it hurts... I'm 24, and the English language cant successfully convey how old this performance makes me feel... Wow.
I turned 30 this year and had the same experience with those same songs walking around my university campus. You & Me in particular was such an important album. I lost my original CD copy to a girl in the music program. One of the few albums I repurchased on vinyl a few years later.
Hamilton´s voice ist just incredible. It makes me think of baby´s being born laughing, of workers singing in the afternoon, of sundays encountering friends and neighboors in the park, of something that is happening all the time, not precisely before our eyes, but in every moment in its self. Englobing the whole moment and life as a whole, while it is still just happening, just another birth, another afternoon, just a small encounter in the park. Makes me think of hope, new possibilites. "It´s gonna be a good year... I tell you I love you... our troubles are over"
Apparently this video is 4 years old. Naaaaa. .more like 13. I love this band. They were my 20s. There will never be a band like them. Im glad I existed during the hay day. X
Having an ad in the middle of this performance should be a crime

FUCK, The Rat is such an epic song, one of the best drum performances in indie rock as well
I agree. check Muzz. amazing
Yeah it was good 2 c Matt playing with Banks 2
@21tombombadil Great character, Tom Bombadil is one of the best characters in the works of Tolkien
Thank you, Yes it is.

The best band for me period, there is something special about their sound that cannot be explained.
Yes! 100% agree. I hope they come back someday.
Unbelievable that they aren’t famous
Maybe there are under played on the radio but underrated ? Never

GOAT drummer. Most underrated band of all time and it’s not close.
Yeah dude was trying to figure out like I think only a BD a snare a Tom, hi hat and maybe a small ride cymbal! Not sure! Dude kills the minimalist set though for sure!
Amazing performance. Never heard a better version of "The Rat". That drummer just drives that song and hits like a train!
In the New Year...every year...face melter...tune for generations.
here too!
The Walkmen is Truly a underrated band. It is wild to think how they weren't a bigger thing.
its better that way
just bought tickets to their first shows in 10 years, for spring 2023. Glad the boys are coming back, endlessly excited!
I watch this once a month.
They perform every song as if it will be the last song ever played on earth, even in a basement.
Well said!
I love him screaming at pipes... I could swear I've seen this video on youtube like 15 years ago
that fuCKIN DRUMMER! love his playin
I know right? Man, he fucking crushing it hard, like to see that dude play the NIN perfect drug drum solo, be nuts!
Honestly, he's great. Agreed.
New drummer
You'll never see or hear a better version of In The New Year than that one. For realz.
"The Rat" is a Masterpiece
This performance will always feel new. Cause they are timeless. Period.
I love this band. They don't just sing and play with their souls they let their souls become a song
i seen walkmen at a small venue. less then 50 people were there. they played like they were at a sold out stadium. i will always be a fan of all theese guys.
The candle that burns twice as bright lasts half as long. So thankful this band existed.
And they have burned so very, very brightly
They'll be back.
2019 and still here singing my throat out
So glad these guys are back. Seem like an Incredible live act
Are they back?
@@MrMisticoMagico back in terms of playing some live shows! Not sure about new music..I got to see them at a festival in Atlanta this year.
these guys performed in brixton, london and as always they played that gig like it was the last night on earth. What a performance

The song around 5 min. Is so awsome. It wasn't on RUclips for a while a few yrs ago. Glad it's back.
it's like the ambiance is so casual but his voice is transcending everything

That passion is still here! I'm 16 and rocking out to these incredible songs. Crazy to think that The Rat came out on my birth year.

@@jackallenproductions I'm 26 now, and my original comment still holds truth.
All love.
@@jackallenproductions When you said, “You & Me in particular was such an important album. I lost my…” I thought you were going to say something else
@@Paul-dw2cl Ha, oh no, I lost that in awkward silence.
i mean, it sounds so raw, the attitude is everything, i really makes you feel in the room. i love it.
Impossibly good - it is just pure music. One of the most awe inspiring bands ever
Please reunite. The Walkmen stand well above their peers.
They’re back!
And your ( and my) wish is granted
I am so f'n pleased they're touring next spring! The Walkmen are one of my favorite bands!
About to see them for a second time in 5 days
Everyone should see this, but they won’t.
I love them and I love this performance.
Amazing stuff.
Tocan con una pasión tan abrumadora que me he vuelto creyente de The Walkman.
Excelente performance, muy auténtico.
In The New Year
Bloody hell, this version has everything. Total total class. Thanks to my son Jamie for letting me in on it 👍🏻
Your kid's got taste, I'll tell you that much
Now I know how all those teenage Beatles fans felt back in the 60s - screaming, crying and passing out. Christ, they were miraculous.
This and Iceage in the basement have made me so God damn happy I can't stop playing them

@@MBArkestra Lololol that battleship has been sunk
I like to think of his voice as Bob Dylan going off on an enraged anti-semitic rant.
@@MBArkestra Mann-crush
Saw them in Austin this weekend and holy crow they are a treasure.
those are some crazy drum fills during "The Rat"
The last one, followed by the guitar chords changing! He's so sick in that peculiar one
I can only pray by some miracle I will see this band play some day, then I can die peacefully.
ohh man i love this video, i ve been watching this live for years.
This is from back n the dayyyy
Just a short 15 years ago.
This is the internet's best kept secret
This is by far my favourite Video on youtube
I can’t stop loving this tune... and the kick-drum cam
Apparently this video is 4 years old. Naaaaa. .more like 13. I love this band. They were my 20s. There will never be a band like them. Im glad I existed during the hay day. X
The feeling I got when I first heard them is still very much alive to this day.

Check Muzz.
Frenetic rodent schtick
The Rat! What a fucking tune and the drumming is top notch!
Awesome set. My favorite songs by them.
agree - it was quite funny to see these exact songs make a set!
dat drummer doe
There's no way I could of sat still for that performance. By the time The Rat starting playing I would have been dancing all over that tiny basement.
Well if your intention with posting this video was to make me nostalgic job well done.
Just one more tour, please!
these guys need to comeback
best band ever thank you pitchfork for bringing them back

So dope... if the triple zeros are next in line for nostalgic significance, these guys were a tight group.
If you're trying to learn how to play the drums, do watch this guy. Nothing he does seems to make sense. Great video. Nostalgic...
