For anyone looking for more resources about hunter movement, Ninja With No L has a great video on it. It’s about a year old so it’s more focused on a shotgun playstyle but a lot of the tips are still viable in the current meta.
@John Chaser it is, it's ok if they didn't get over shield and just marked you. Or if they just marked you and didn't get over shield. But I guess I don't know how it is to play with it. I bet you are a titan main thought. So you probably have it.
UPDATE: Things I wish I mentioned during the video... 1. Hunter jumps are impacted by how long you hold the jump button. Works for both regular and double jumps. You can tap it for a small jump, and hold for a bigger jump. 2. Your Mobility stat amplifies your strafing and jumping abilities to go higher/faster. There's a cap to this according to a useful post somewhere on Reddit, but I haven't been able to re-test the numbers myself yet in the modern sandbox. 3. Shaders/Ornaments are listed in the description :) Hope you guys found this one helpful, it's been a highly requested video. Let me know what you'd like to see me create next!
Pattycakes Gaming hey this was a really interesting video and definitely some thing that I might start trying even tho normally I don’t really think about how I’m playing to much but I somehow still make it to 13,8 soo but definitely a helpful video, definitely gonna try that slope jumping
ADS and try to remember where your aim spot (red dot) was, thats where the HC is going back to after a shot. The rest is just getting to know the RPM and the recoil when shootin git
what ive learned, for whatever its worth: pick a cannon rpm you like and memorize/get a feel for the middle of your monitor. After your first shot there is an animation for recoil but you can still shoot again before it fully resets. if you can remember that spot for the followup shots youll be able to land more shots in more engagements. But it is always better imo to only take the shots you feel confident in. also, ignore rng in current meta, the hcs got nerfed pretty hard. :)
One of my favorite hunter movements rat I’ve used for years is to engage in a gunfight (preferably close range) and then dodge to the left or right, and then immediately jump the opposite way I just dodged. It really confuses the shit outta people, especially with stompees or something.
Tip for any controller players to dodge that fast after a shot: Try switching your button layout to "Puppeteer" in the far right settings menu of your character screen. This is personal preference only, but it helps me. All this does is switches your Dodge to your right thumb stick and your inspect player to your O or B button for PS and XBox. This way you technically never have to take your thumb off one of your movement sticks and not try some crazy claw method. My shotgunning needs hella work cause I'm more of a sniper, but I can confidently say I can take a snipe and then dodge after as quickly as done in this video. Edit: Great video btw PC. I'm going to practice those shotgunning tips. I haven't seen anyone take that specific movement approach before!
@@PattycakesGaming That's Awesome! I remember switching to it in D1 and the first game I did was on Pantheon/Convergence. I hit a nasty slide snipe by the waterfall with my Her Fury and was like "....welp, I'm never going back..." hahah

I got Sony’s Bumper attachment. It works amazingly. Feels like it belongs on a DualShock
As someone on console id suggest moving to a 10 sensitivity. Ive always played on 10 because even today this game sometimes feels slow for me even with traction. It really raises your potential skill cap if you get good with it
I started off playing at 6 or 7 sens on console but a few weeks ago I realized that I just wasn’t turning quick enough during shotgun duels or other scenarios. Worked my way up to 8, about to get on 9 sensitivity. Once you get used to it, it makes the game so much easier. Also, some people saying the higher sens is harder for sniping, but I’ve been having a great time sniping on 8.
I semi agree but I've always played on 10 since d1 and it still feels way to slow. I am a really fast paced sniper and I hate how long it take me to turn alot of times.
Loved this one. I never understood how hunters got away so quick so thanks for the tip with the speed jump thing! Also, I need to get better and strafing and crouching in duels bc on controller it’s quite hard lol...

LMAO video was great but legit zoomed to comments to see if someone else noticed. that shit was bonkers rewatched like 20 times to make sure I wasn't seeing shit
Love a lot of the tips and demonstrations in the video, as well as the fact that you gave it context, but one comment you made didn't quite sit right. "It's also one of those tells I pick up that somebody might be cheating. If their aim is incredible but their movement is subpar, that's a sign something fishy might be going on." This can be true, but at the same time many players move to Destiny from other shooters, and I haven't seen a shooter with a movement style very alike to Destiny's. Obviously, that translates to aim but not the movement sitting well. Positioning taken into account (but not mentioned in-video) works better. Anyways, lots of respect and I appreciate the effort for this video. Keep up the great work, and stay safe!
It's definitely not a sure way to tell. It's more that when you see someone hitting unusually good shots but their movement is really bad, it's suspicious and often times when we look into they are pretty clearly cheating. I'm talking mostly about people who seem to have awful FPS fundamentals but just never miss. Good aimers from other games tend to have good fundamentals even if they don't do some Destiny specific movement tricks
damn. these tips have been my own secrets since d1 man. i knew someone would eventually make a video about slope hopping and head boosting. didnt realize it would take this long.
Amazing guide, finally someone made an up to date guide for hunters! But there is one issue with strafing, it used to be effective against handcannons as everyone and their dog used to use handcanons, but now that a ton of players use hardlight and can track you its useless now
Thanks, I still thing strafing is very important regardless of the weapon. I find it a lot harder to track players who move well compared to those who stand still... ESPECIALLY with ARs :)
Pattycakes Gaming Hmm fair enough all I'm saying is peek shooting has become much more important than strafing out in the open that will give the ar guy with good tracking the win especially with a superior ttk
Great tips! Some of these are so hard, yet so simple. Thanks for the tip about loading into a private match. I run arc strider most of the time, so the tips on solar and void make me want to think about switching around more. People are surprised most of the time when they realize I am not only a female, but pushing 60 years old. I will be referring back to this video quite often to watch more in detail to utilize these. Tips! Thank you!
I have a quick question for you. On EDZ, near Winding Cove. I was playing the Seraph Towers and I noticed on the street, which would be to the right if you were looking from where you being the event. There was a Rasputin lantern and it was playing music. By the time I got there it was complete. Do you know anything about it?
Pattycakes Gaming Arcstrider has a great neutral game, but it’s so easy for opponents to outrun the super. How do you get around that? I’ve had success popping it up close to a few opponents, but it often results in being team shot. I struggle to consistently use it well.
Oh this was EXACTLY what I needed. All of it. Play mainly arcstrider and void subclasses in PVP and I’m a bit inconsistent in super v super. I see why now ;) I really liked the map movement and combining vertical with slide. The demo’s from your gameplay are tremendous and I wish you could make more. I know it’s a lot of work, but I watch every one of your techniques videos. I’d also enjoy coverage of specific maps if you ever decide to make any. Thanks!!!
One of the things I realized pretty quickly myself is that I don't use my dodge often enough, it's almost always off cooldown when I die, and I always regret not using it. Sliding I'm still working on getting the hang of. I need to rebind keys to make it more accessible. At least my gunplay is solid. I only lose gunfights to people who either A: manage to close the gap with a shotgun slide, B: Are Using Soros Regime with its insane TTK, C: are using a sniper rifle on an angle I didn't expect (non-corridor/alley usage), or D: using Mountaintop or another non-heavy grenade launcher with high velocity. If it kills me in one hit, it's difficult to learn to play against, though snipers I really should be sliding around corners using the methods in this video. Weapons of choice are: Hand cannon primary (Thorn, Ace, or Lumina), and Gnawing Hunger secondary. One day I'll get a Stompees drop.
God your content is so good. I've watched Ninja with no L's guide multiple times (and it's great) but I still learned some new things here. I didn't know about the downward slope boost, and I have over a thousand hours in this game.
6:38 I would use this a lot more if the exotic that gives you another jump was back. Triple jump + strafe jump is amazing for Hunter skating. So for any D1 players this is really good
Well done sir. One thing I might add (maybe you mentioned and I didn’t catch) is that when in spectral, jump left click to cover ground VS left click or running only. Either way this is yet another fantastic video. Keep doin what you’re doin Patty it’s all up from here 👍
One thing I might add is how you can use quickfang/goldtusk to improve your mobility, not only is it a lightweight frame but doing a swipe without ammo replaces the mantle animation when jumping onto high grounds, allowing you to take a more vertical jump angle without locking you into the mantle animation. It is also slighty faster and you get to swap weapons while doing so.
6:21 bruh that shot was so damn lucky lol. Great clip man, I can show this to some of my friends who are starting to play on hunters from warlocks now 👌
Another thing about the sliding. If you are using middle tree arcstrider you can use you melee immediately when you see an opponent since you have already slid. This is great if you don't have a shotgun in your loadout .
One thing that I think a lot of people miss is how tracking works when dodging. If you dodge while a projectile is tracking at you or about to track you (ie. Jotuun, Dawnblade, blade barrage, etc.) the tracking is disrupted and won't track you and instead follows the original trajectory. This makes it easy to dodge rockets like Truth as long as it isn't to close, and is extremely effective against Jotuun. It can even allow you to completely dodge blade barrage if your opponent relies too heavily on the tracking of the blades. I remember this worked for aim assist in d1 as well but I'm not sure about d2 as I'm on PC so I don't really notice anything.
I 110% agree with the skill gap in destinys extremely movement based pvp is the movement positioning and i will also add radar awareness. The average may have better gunskill to land shots , but the top tier player who has 100% mastered the the class they when it comes to movement will always come out on top. As someone who has mained hunter since d1 beta i think on the surface the hunter class looks very simple , but there is a lot of depth there and depth is in the movement top tier hunter mains can make you look stupid with their advanced dodge jump movement combos.
You improved my gameplay in just a week. I had to come back and sub. May you make vid guides on different primaries? In the current meta it feels like you have to use a hand cannon to compete at the highest level. Either way there is a huge oversaturation of hand cannon gameplay on RUclips in high stakes matches. I was wondering if you could do nice guides on other primaries for those who are stall of hand cannons.
The super movement tips are great, gotta bump my sensitivity anyway. Been on like 3-4 since beta D1 and I do pretty damn well. But that's with strictly offence on console. Now these days after a few months I'm rusty. Even with subpar movement skills I usually Dodge pretty effectively. Though I wish I knew how you can get your spectral blades air slice to move you so far laterally. That's a big issue I have
Awesome video and I really appreciate the tips you have included regarding different ways to get kill enemies and move around to avoid getting killed. I don't use the shotgun much, but might give it more often to see how things go. Keep up the good work mate.
Is there any chance you could do a video like this for Warlock and Titan? Like others have mentioned your videos have been a great help to improving my game! I look forward to more!
@@PattycakesGaming That'd be great man. I've been a punchy boy with antaeus for a while and I felt myself relying on them to often and just mindlessly apeing in for kills. I've been having a blast with top tree dawn blade and sniping recently.
Awesome video, some next level stuff here. The best hunter movement video I’ve seen, focused and concise but advanced techniques. I incorporate a lot of this in my game, but not consistently. My biggest issue is jumping in duels. It gets me picked by their teammates most times, but it’s a habit I’m struggling to break because it’s reactionary. I’d really like a video on really close range combat. When things get messy up close and I lose sight of my opponent I seem to lose more than I win. What strategies do you use to find your opponent and kill them (I’m on PC).
Pattycakes Gaming Thanks, I need to use Kovaaks more. It’s when I lose sight of them I’ve had it. I tend to get meleed before I find them. One bad habit is not meleeing straight away and trying to find them to shoot them.
Hey, that was helpful! i will try it in the next matches. The last part was interesting, almost never played on arcstrider, usually people shoot me out of it pretty fast. Actually i play very little on hunter and i'm so bad on all of it suppers! One thing that i saw over the last months in different videos, was that inexperienced players are bad in their suppers, will you make a video for advanced use of suppers, not only for hunters, but for warlocks and titans? edit: also watched your video for keybinds, it helped a lot, needed 1 week to adjust to new buttons, but now is way better
Patty could you make a general destiny movement guide video as well? Or if you would prefer to keep it class specific that’s cool too. Thanks for a great vid!
You know what, as I think about this more, I think what I actually want to see is a positioning guide. I’m sure movement would be a factor in that too; however, I think choosing the perfect place & time to be at a given point in time is one of those high skill things that is hard to learn. Especially with 2 teammates. I’m not quite sure what this would look like in a video, but I know when I play with better players and ask if they have any tips for me they almost always say something like “it’s all positioning.” So maybe a blended movement & positioning guide for 3v3 scenarios...? Take it as you will-excited to see whatever’s next regardless. :)
Definately vital movements. I started copying them by watching iFrost & ZK. Im a hc main & it saved my hunter ass so many times VS ARs, Arbalest & snipers which are hard to contest.
Awesome vid! It made my realiza how bad my Strafe is because of Spectral blades, I crouch at the start of a gunfight and make myself an easier target to hit because of the movement penalty. Definitely going to share this video to my friends, you earned a sub
I know about the sliding. And one step away from cover, but I feel everytime I do with a primary/ snipe etc I'll easily easy shit lol, like they are expecting me or I just can't push correctly. Sometimes it just doesn't work
This is way late, but great vid! Also I miss the invis off crouch snipes. It was really fun with chaperone or my firmly planted snap shot eye of sol. With graviton forfeit, you used to get 15 seconds of invis for a single headshot
Great advice! I've never used strafe jump before so I'll give it a try. These days I've been using Le Monarque bow with a slug shotgun for kinetic, and I wonder if you'll cover some tips on good plays for bow in pvp. Looking forward to your next content!
The scariest bow play I've come across is my friend Mystic / Triwq who quick swaps between Le Mon and a handcannon with opening shot. It's infuriating to play against in a 1v1. You basically have to hit a snipe headshot to beat him because he doesn't miss much with it
Ninja with no L did a really good video way back in forsaken talking about it. This is more relevant now because of the changes but I still recommend watching that for even more insight
Really looking forward to playing on console with my friends once I finish my PC, but my biggest reason for favoring controller over M&K is that I'm left handed. Sure, I can remap all the buttons to make things easier on myself, but I always feel as if there isn't a good setup that makes M&K feel just as good for left-handed people than right-handed.
1:11 I can hear the other side of this moment without actually hearing it. Jokes aside, great video, Pattycakes. Going to be working on some of this myself in the future.
This came up in my recommended. Flawless video, no complaints. I’m a console hunter and I actually kinda needed this to improve my game haha. Also, what’s your usual setups in terms of Primary/Secondary and Exotic Armor?
Sliding and Jumping are things I never do, I rarely use Dodge as well, except to reload. Maybe years of CoD has ingrained this into me, don't know. I ALWAYS miss trying to be a dancy pants mcfancy player. Use to be top 100 in my state back in the day, so I never fixed what wasn't broken. Might try to use some of these in my gameplay, but I'll need to remaster aiming. Either way, great times for younger players who don't have decades of FPS habits built up.
hey patty i was wondering if you could create a video about game knowledge because I Really enjoyed this video and it helped lots but my biggest problem is in decision making and knowledge of maps
Binding your crouch to hold crouch while spamming your shots, especially with something like suros is the most powerful tool I’ve ever discovered in crucible. No macro involved but it’s insanely fast.
I've always had the mentality to dodge close to enemies because of pve. I can't get out of this mentality. When I'm critical I'm always spamming dodge trying be speratic. I also try to make use of exotics like ophidia spathe because on top tree those 2 throwing knives are absolutely stupid and if you pair them with a trip mine you basically can trap an entire area and as long as you dodge near an enemy with gamnblers dodge, you get 2 more knives to play with.
For anyone looking for more resources about hunter movement, Ninja With No L has a great video on it. It’s about a year old so it’s more focused on a shotgun playstyle but a lot of the tips are still viable in the current meta.

Glad you mentioned the crouch spamming macro's. That drives me crazy. Great info on the super dueling. Don't think enough people know about it.
Omg bro I totally agree with you when u said if there movements is trash but they aim is great.
Nice work, did touch on some good subjects
Awesome tips! Just what what I was looking for to help me improve as a player 👍
some people like me are used to call of duty, and this really helped us so thank you for that.
Awesome!
Well organized, concise and insightful commentary throughout the whole video!
I made it twelve minutes without eating from this fresh box of crayons.
Just realized the music you have in beginning of video is on my playlist....one of my favorites. Good choice.
Ah cool, from epidemic sounds?
This mans is super underrated, learned a bunch of stuff and will try and master that slide sniping move on console 😂
"advanced movement"
Laughs in controller player
Same =,)
Its not impossible for controller just difficult. I have pretty good movement but i use ps4.
They need to add look around Sensitivity and ADS sensitivity. 10 sensitivity is still too slow!!!
@@KillaBean416 it got updated now goes up to 20
@@KillaBean416 and they also have an increase turn radius setting now, its pretty damn good
Finally someone post a good video thank you patycake
Thanks :)
The new Felwinters Lie coming out soon will probably by VERY strong
Is there any chance you could do a video like this for Warlock and Titan? Like others have mentioned your videos have been a great help to improving my game! I look forward to more!
Yeah I think I will in the future :)
Up close is tough, I find aim training drills in Kovaaks that train this type of combat helps ( like Close Fast Strafes)
Awesome! Yeah that super video would be cool to make sometime, I'll add it to the list :)
Big thanks for this Patty. Would like more of these vids, perhaps map layouts and advanced lanes and angles with the movement between.
Thanks, one I plan to work on fairly soon is a teamwork guide for playing together around a map
@@PattycakesGaming Awesome can't wait! Thanks again for the Vids and tutorials.
Nice video sooo smooth man i play on console its nice but on pc it looks soo nice
The frames and FoV are awesome :)
Probably your best vid to me good stuff
Thanks!
Patty could you make a general destiny movement guide video as well? Or if you would prefer to keep it class specific that’s cool too. Thanks for a great vid!
Hey I could, what kind of topics would you like to see me cover in it?
You know what, as I think about this more, I think what I actually want to see is a positioning guide. I’m sure movement would be a factor in that too; however, I think choosing the perfect place & time to be at a given point in time is one of those high skill things that is hard to learn. Especially with 2 teammates. I’m not quite sure what this would look like in a video, but I know when I play with better players and ask if they have any tips for me they almost always say something like “it’s all positioning.” So maybe a blended movement & positioning guide for 3v3 scenarios...? Take it as you will-excited to see whatever’s next regardless. :)
Subbed. Enjoyed the lil "wouldn't think about" bits
Dude! Phenomenal video. Really looking forward to watching more of your stuff 🤙🏼
I was today years old when I learnt you could do the light attack light attack heavy for a palm slam I've been playing since black armoury lol
Glad you found it helpful!
Thank you so much for the wonderful info and taking time out to make this video
Awsome video, I knew I was about to see a whole new world in D2 competitive
Keep grinding 🙏🙏🙏
This information is world class. MORE MORE MORE!
Thanks!
I know about the sliding. And one step away from cover, but I feel everytime I do with a primary/ snipe etc I'll easily easy shit lol, like they are expecting me or I just can't push correctly. Sometimes it just doesn't work
yeah sometimes they will expect it. One thing I should have mentioned is to use your dodge to 3-peek angles you think someone might be sniping
Use stomp
Even on console this guide is relevant. There is still some stuff you can't do like whipping round 180 degrees, but it still really helps
Adjust your sensitivity to max.
Played you a little while ago in rumble. You slapped me
I wish you could've added a few tips for fusions to use with this info because bastion is rocking crucible Rn
Dude. Love this video, thanks so much! You deserve way more subs!
This Guide + Stompy's + 100 mobility + Traction = big juicer
Nice video ur movement in normal and super is insane
1:11
I can hear the other side of this moment without actually hearing it.
Jokes aside, great video, Pattycakes. Going to be working on some of this myself in the future.
Thanks!
Learned a few new things! Thank you!
Rapid crouch strafing brings me back to my Rogue Spear days. RtC for life 🤘
Great video!
Thanks!
ooh, what shader is that on your mindbenders shotgun?
Gambit Emerald
@@PattycakesGaming Ooooh it looks sick, this is enough of a motive to make me go grind gambit
This came up in my recommended. Flawless video, no complaints. I’m a console hunter and I actually kinda needed this to improve my game haha. Also, what’s your usual setups in terms of Primary/Secondary and Exotic Armor?
I have an exotic tier list video coming out soon :)
Favorite competitive weapons are dire promise, beloved and mindbenders
Ooou nice, I’ll be looking forward to it 👀 and okay cool. I’m gonna try Spare Rations and Beloved and see how that works out with the tips you gave 🤞🏾
I cannot do some of these since I play on controller but it is sure as hell useful
We call this bob&weave in boxing, glad to know how I can implement a rl skill in game 😁
Really great tips :D thank you
New hunter vanguard
Right, now I need to remember this when it matters
Practice :)
Ik ik, I want to grind more
Love watching hunters have seizures every time they dodge
Yes we do be good at that lol
Binding your crouch to hold crouch while spamming your shots, especially with something like suros is the most powerful tool I’ve ever discovered in crucible. No macro involved but it’s insanely fast.
I prefer hold crouch as well
Loved this video, could you do one for titan and warlock? :)
Yeah I'll add it to my future video list :)
@@PattycakesGaming awesome
Imagine having 160 fps and no connection issues :')
that 5nik clip is legendary B)
When using stompees do I use strafe jump high jump, or triple jump?
I am hunter main and clearly I been playing it wrong, great content :)
Thanks :)
Damn this is the first time watching your vids and they are insane🙌
Thanks!
I just got into the game and this helps a lot
Awesome!
Feels like I will never be good at this😅. Thx for the tips
