This is a trailer for Super Mario Sunshine which was on a DVD that came free with NGC Magazine. Even though this DVD came out in 2002 I think the trailer is from E3 2001.
Nintendo rushed the game to try to sell more Gamecube consoles, since the beginning of this game's development they had different ideas, also if I'm not wrong Sunshine was being developed with a different engine, thats why the game models and textures look odd or different in the spaceworld trailer. In my opinion Delfino Plaza looked way more fun in the beta of spaceworld, with enemies running around, colorful goop, a train system that connected the different worlds, and many things that got scrapped.
ldog dragon They can make a new 3d Mario game where he returns to Isle Delfino, and the title for it would be somewhere in the lines of "Super Mario Bright Sun"
@Fresh Start That doesn't matter, it could have a sequel where piantisimo (when you finish the game it appears him finding bowser jr's brush) becoming a villain and Mario saving the day again, who knows!
Despite all the negative reviews this game got, it was both my childhood and favorite game. I still prefer this game over Galaxy 1 or 2. Edit: I posted this, like, three years ago, but I guess it didn't receive too many negative reviews, I've just heard it get a lot of bad comments about the new mechanics and controls and whatnot. My mistake
My all time favorite Mario game. And I never even owned it back then!!! I would periodically go to my best friend's house and we would take turns playing the game, it was so incredibly fun. We used to live in Sunnyvale, and Sunshine fit our weather perfectly. It's seriously the best Saturday morning game for me. It wasn't until years later that I bought a used copy for myself that I still occasionally play today on my Wii. Now the game is like a little time capsule; every time I play, it's like I'm almost reliving that bygone era of the early 2000s as a young kid.
Exactly. I remember that my same friend was gifted Melee for his birthday in 02 or 03 and our couch multiplayer sessions with his friends and family was so incredibly fun. And all my friends would come over to my place and play Double Dash...you're exactly right: for most games, we have to play alone to play with others. How sad is that? I miss those good times too man...local multiplayer games are ever receding.
Yeah I know what you mean, same here. No one plays in the same room anymore. What's puzzling is that local coop and split screen is what differentiates consoles from PCs (or at least that's what used to). I never wanted to get into pc gaming all that much before, because I thought "what's the point if I can't play with my friends when we get together? I'd rather invest in a console that provide fun group entertainment." But now consoles are nearly no different from PCs, it's getting to the point where there's no reason to buy a console because none of the games are "party-worthy". I wish many more PC games would allow splitscreen mode (like Portal 2 maybe), for people who are fine with lowered graphics performance so they can share multiple controllers and play on one pc together.
I remember this trailer back in 2002. I used to subscribe to a video game magazine that sometimes came bundled with a DVD packed with game trailers. It was pretty much the only way to get high quality video material from upcoming games back then. This exact trailer was on one of them and I was so hyped when I first saw it. I must've watched it over a hundred times.
You see what makes this trailer so good is the fact that it shows everything I will experience in the game. Unlike trailers nowadays with their over dramatic cut scenes that usually aren't even in the game.
Super Mario Sunshine (2002) is one of the most greatest video games of all time due to it's fun, innovative, colorful, bright, vibrant, unique, carefree, inventive, challenging, mind-blowing, exciting, and thrilling gameplay, graphics, and levels. It was decent. To this day I still play it and I consider it a classic. It never gets old.😍😎💯👍
I’m playing this in full for the first time in my life. I’ve played it plenty of times at friends houses back when this game was in its prime, but never beat it. Got 60 shines so far and while it can be frustrating, it’s still a hot blast!
I think its mostly the fact that most sound effects were actually missing in the trailer along with the BGM so they just looped the delfino plaza theme.
It's really cool how the trailers (this one and space world 2001) differ so much from the final game, it makes you wonder how the game would have turned out had they not scrapped certain ideas that were visible in the trailers.
Looks like they changed a lot of stuff from this trailer to the final release later the same year. I'm gonna assume the build of this game was probably early 2002 and not mid and they didn't want to make another trailer for mid 2002. A lot of stuff still wasn't finished in this footage but you can see that many of the now known stuff was coming together here. This trailer is a huge difference from the famous Spaceworld trailer which showed a completely different SMS.
I'm glad knowing that Nintendo acknowledges this and Super Mario 64 as the last truly sandbox Mario games and that they are returning to this style for Odyssey.
I was 14 years old when I first got this game and played it day and night during school!!!! Now I'm in my early thirties and a few months in after having purchased Super Mario 3D All Stars, by which this is one of the 3 oldies on it, the other two being Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Galaxy. Being a gamer for nearly thirty years, I'd say that this particular game is definitely worth it, just like all the others!!!!🎮🕹🤙🤟👍🙏
@@NotScared The truth is that it is a remaster, what happens is that they have done quite little, they have removed some textures and created some new ones, glitches, they have changed some values, and other things...

Yes and no, I mean, the trailer presented in Spaceworld 2001 looks way more different, this E3 trailer looks more similar to the final version but there are several differences with some areas and of course how Yoshi would work
I would have enjoy it more if it could be playable with a real controller and not that shitty wii-mote. Otherwise I think the Mario Galaxy are the most childish mario, easy games with cartoon's caracters and dysney like musics; clearly target for kids and not for old school gamers.
Interesting. This shows footage from further along in development, but still with several differences from the final product. I have no idea why old beta stuff like this fascinates me, it just does. :D
It seemed odd when it came out even though I enjoyed the game. I didn't appreciate it at the time but I'm happy with what they did now. It's the most unique entry in the 3d series. Kind of like of no one appreciated Wind Waker until years later.

Yeah you're right. Its interesting how things have changed so much all these years. I guess back then, E3 was mostly just for people that worked in the gaming industry that worked at magazines. Only really IGN and Gamespot existed as websites that covered games and they didn't really upload video footage often. So a trailer like this was just aimed to show those journalists the basic features in agame so they can write about it, rather then it being edited to look amazing and make them want to buy it.
Yeah its interesting to look back at trailers for games long before they released as there are almost always huge differences between what they originally showed and what ended up in the final game.
I like seeing how different Mario games were in their betas. Now, betas don't have much of a difference. I love this game. I remember my brother and I would play this a lot and tell the other about stuff that happens in the game if one of us isn't there yet. Now, it's not like that. People just switch to first/third person games. Screw that, I'll always play Mario games until I loose the movement in my fingers.
I never understood the hate for this game. To me, this is my favorite mario game of all time. Hopefully it gets an HD remake like windwaker, or a second game.
I re-played and re-finshed mario sunshine with my lil' cousin this 25dec holiday. Awesome game that should be shown to young and new generation of gamers how games should be, not angry bird staff, or cheap tablet games of today and alike.
