How is the wear life of the tread on the 5's compared to the 4's? I wear 4's now, and love them, but I wear them out quickly (6-7 months of weekly hiking or 12 months of less adventurous wear).
About the same that’s my biggest complaint about these is they west so fast. Maybe that’s the problem with having such large lugs. I would say mine last the same amount of time. I am using the 6 now & it hasn’t changed maybe even worse than the 5. Still love the shoe.
@StephenAldaco someone at an REI told me they thought the 5 had a harder compound, but it seems they may have been misled. I was hoping that would be the case, given the larger lug size. Thank you for the reply, and keep up the good work!
I've watch a fair few other review vids of these and all of them mention the shoes fit small and they all recommend a half size above your regular fit. Now I'm confused. I've just bought a pair half size up. Hopefully the majority were right. I add that I have square, thick feet, so sure I'll be fine.
I feel the 5 is a bit more roomy inside of that makes sense. It’s not loose but my foot can slip in and out of it easier & the taller heel is very helpful.
@@StephenAldaco I’ve owned the SC3 and the SC5- I’ve found all Solomon shoes to run smallish TBH, but i did find the 5’s to have a lot more toe box room than the 3’s. I suppose everyone’s foot is different tho, so YMMV
Hey Steve I think they would be great for a Spartan race! The gortex version is going to be good for those muddy bits. The only downside I could see is weight being slightly heavier than some shoes.
@@StephenAldaco Thank you. You are right about the weight. I've been looking into the Hoka Evo Jawz as well because it is lighter. I'm sure either one will perform well. Both are really good brands.
Beware the Solomon range don’t always come bigger than there size chart suggests..They are sized differently & most people say there small for there sizing…In England I got a half size up & there a little snug in length & I heard a lot of people say this even in America. There a slim fit too so not for wide feet & the arch is high so not for flat feet. I’ll have to wear thin socks with mine but if I got another pair I’d buy a whole size up.. I’m concerned there is no comments about the tread wearing & every re design they enlarge the tread as if it’s wearing down fast as you would expect from soft rubbery spike style grips.

Hey report back to us once you find out! Hopefully I didn’t get a random deformed pair 🤣🤣🤣
wore a hole in the bottom of my solomons 5 after a good long life of rough use
Thank you for the comparison. What is the size comparison between 5 and 4.

is it ok if i run in them on asphalt or just regularly wear them? just got them and they are amazing
Glad to hear that!!! I wouldn’t wear them on asphalt often. You totally can but it causes the shoes to wear supper fast.
Great review. I've loved my Solomons to death as well.
Great shoe glad I’m not the only one 😅😅
⚠️ There's NO EXTRA SPACE in the toe BOX of the speed cross 5 (!)
I got spd cross 3-4-5
So I know 🤫
Hay I bought some speed cross 5 and they say made in China I’m wondering do your say the same?
Hey friend I’ll check mine out in the morning and report back to you!
Hey good morning yes mine say made in China as well.
I've just bought some 4's for £59. Versus the 5 which is currently around £115..
Nice good deal! Where did you get them?
@@StephenAldaco I have watching them for some months on Amazon UK.
HOW MANY YEARS WILL IT LAST FOR A NORMAL USE?
MINE LASTED 2-3 YEARS WITH HEAVY USAGE. DEPENDS ON HOW ROUGH THE TREKS ARE.
Nice review. Would you recommend the SpeedCross 5 for a 5K Spartan race? Or are their better trail runners for those types of races?
