The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

The 1954-58 Elvis - or as many like to say the "pre-Army" Elvis, of Sun Records and early RCA, is the Elvis Presley I think of when I think of him. He just sounded so good and was so cool and full of energy. When you listen to his early songs you feel like a million bucks.

So innocent and young. What a different time. He was very handsome before all the ugly people and things came into his life. People would still be buying tickets to see him now, had he chosen another path in his life and left the drugs and certain people out of his life. It was all so sad.

So many bad things crept into his life after he returned from the Army stationed in Germany in 1960. But I think the biggest problem for him was Parker. He controlled and influenced Elvis terribly, and unfortunately for Elvis he didn't have a strong enough backbone to fire him.
You mentioned people would still be buying tickets to see him - consider the fact that Paul McCartney is 78 now and still sells out stadiums, where you will see people from 8 months old to 80 years old at his shows. And knowing every word to every song he sings.
The same thing would happen for Elvis today if he'd have just fired Parker and found a manager who looked out for Elvis' best interests and not his own.

On that day, October 28, 1856, I was 5 years old, in kindergarten, and never saw this because my family did not even own a TV and the neighborhood had mostly little kids with very few big kids. If i watched TV at other kids' houses it was only a few daytime cartoons. We had no idea what we were missing

People choose him, sometimes I think people in the past were smarter than today They saw exactly something big come.
People often fall into the trap of putting elvis down: “he never wrote his own songs” “the Beatles were far better” “he was a fat sweaty Las Vegas has been” and I myself sometimes fall into this trap when going months without watching elvis. However when I return to elvis and watch something like this, it takes me back and reminds me why this man was the king and was probably the greatest frontman of all time. His looks, his charm he was fucking unique and still is to this day! Absolutely extraordinary! I feel bad for elvis that he is not still held in such high regard as an artists and performer compared to say the Beatles are today.
When you say as much as you did, you lose any audience you may have had.
If you were intelligent, you'd understand that elvis's soul depth and diversity, destroys the beatles.

Best live version of this song IMO. Great, full sound, simple but nice groove by DJ. I love that Elvis sometimes 'forgets' to play rhythm-guitar - then, when he starts playing, it wonderfully adds to the sound.
I alway loved, when he played rhythm-guitar and you actually could hear the guitar - he was an absolutely underrated rhythm-guitar-player: Johnny Cash said in his autobiography, that when he saw Elivs the first time (Sept. 1954), that what he really noticed that night, was Elvis' fabulous rhythm-guitar-playing.
