I'm from Germany and I have a special edition of a Gun Magazine about the 1911.
There was a nice story about a 1911 that a German civilian was presented by an US veteran.
The German guy was in wounded in the hospital when the town was liberated by the US Army.
Because he had 3 years English lessons in school, he became the translator between the American Officers and the German medical personnel.
He became a kind of friend with a Sergeant.
He was send home in 1945, and thought he wouldn't see this Sergagain.
In 1964 he became a chairman in a big German Company, and they had good contacts with an American Artillery in Neckarsulm.
And who was the Manager of the Rid&Gun Club? This Sergeant.
The German guy became a Lifemember of the NRA, and when the Sergeant was retired in 1966,he sold the 1911 that he carries since WW II, and give it as a present to his German friend.

When I was in the USN I qualified with the this pistol, the M14 and the Remington 870. My first three real loves! lol I was actually in when we were transitioning to the Beretta M9. A lot of grumpy old salts were chafing at the idea of change, I loved it. We gotta keep the tech curve moving forward, but I still have a Colt Officers model, which is just a little more compact than the full size with 3.5" barrel and a shortened grip frame with 6+1 capacity. I also bought a .22LR conversion kit just to plink and hunt small game.

    • @valuedhumanoid6574
      @valuedhumanoid6574 4 года назад +2

@The Muffin Man More durable than...what? The M9? I am not sure I agree with that. I had one for seven years and I sold it with over 15,000 rounds through it. Maybe more. Hard to keep track of that sort of thing. But it is one tough customer. So is the 1911 though. I would say that if both are well maintained and decent ammo ran through, they should last. When you start feeding junk ammo through them, then you're asking for issues.

I don't know if it was a World War II veteran gun or a classic remake but I do know that in the hands of a 10 year old it kicked like a mule, lol :) I always remind my older brother of that day and how much that pistol influenced my fight for our rights to individual freedoms especially 2A.

I have my dads 1911A1 that he carried in his 23 year career in the army. Not the one he was issued in ‘41,which was lost when he was wounded, but one he snagged at the end of WW2. Its a Remington Rand, made in 1944. He had it nickel plated in Japan in ‘49,where I was born, and carried it in Korea and Formosa (Taiwan). First gun I ever fired. Been told the nickel plating ruined its collector value, not that I care. To me is priceless.

The first 1911 I bought was a Remington Rand in 1970 when I was 17. Paid a $100 for it, that was a lot for a 17 year old working in my dad's grocery store. Had some pitting on one side of the slide from being stored in its original holster but it shot great.

Love this gun. I don’t have a WW2 era 1911, but I inherited my grandfathers which I think he bought around 1968.

My grandfather taught me how to shoot from age 10. My first pistol was a few years later. His father’s actual WW2 1911/A1 whichever you’d officially call it. Was a great piece and really something to be used 3 generations later.

The design is incredible for being 109 years old. It is still a very visible option for self defense in the modern day. How many guns have that reputation.

How I imagine Hickok puts this gun away. Sets it on the table and lets out a sigh of satisfaction, then gently wraps it in a soft clean cloth, transfers it to a slightly beat up case as if handling an ancient relic. As he puts the case away he whispers "you're history" sometimes with a single manly tear in his eye, walks away knowing everything going to be alright.

I have a 1943 Army issued 1911 as well and a 1985 Auto Ordinance 1911. The 1943 Colt is obviously older yet shoots and functions 100 times better than the AO. Just more proof that they don’t make’em like they used to! Thanks for the great vids Hickok and stay safe.

The 1911 has a good reputation Hickok, u have a nice one. Great shooting buddy. It was nice of u to help out a veteran, and what people don't know won't hurt them. Great shooting as always. U and Tennessee take care Hickok.

That is a really historical 1911. There was a lot of action in the Pacific during WWII. My Father was in the Coast Guard and made it back as did one of my Uncles. Another Uncle went MIA in the Pacific in a Heavy Bomber in the Army Air Corp. So anything from that era is a huge interest to me. I always think of the man or men that depended on their sidearms and how they may have been the only reason they did make it back. Thank you for a wonderful video and some real history. Peace To All!

When I got out of the service in 1980 one of the first things I did was purchase a Colt government model 1911 and a 12 gauge (both mainly for home defense). Over the years I have bought and traded guns but one that I will never get rid of is the Colt. The fell of it in my hand is just so comfortable that unless you have had a gun fit so well I have a hard time explaining the sensation. It becomes an extension of your arm.
    Anyway thanks for sharing 👍✌️🇺🇸

Carried one in the Navy on ship during watch on roving patrol and shore patrol. Discharged in 1984 just before the Beretta 94 became the official sidearm. Thankfully my Brother was still enlisted during their decommissioning in 1985-86 and he got me one when the USN was selling them to active duty. It is my most cherished sidearm to this day.

Of all my dad's guns from WWII , The .45 is my favorite still ! my father gave it to me when I was about '40 ! Just an awesome weapon and great piece of history. I dreamed of getting a Colt but due to the prize I had to go a little lower in price for now. The looks and feel of my Ruger sr1911 is like going back in time when I was a boy playing PS shooting 1911s in WWII games. Awesome video and good shooting sir.
