Absolutely beautiful. I've loved this gun since I first shot it in bootcamp back in '85. All the other "GI 1911s" from RIA, Kahr, etc. just aren't the same.
Very nice. I have several of the 1991-A1 models that I bought when they originally came out. I don't shoot them as I just wanted to have some Colts in my collection. I have other 1911's that I shoot. I also find that Colt's are way out of the price range that I like and I don't buy them anymore (plus they only come with one mag). Keeping it all original is the great. I do the same thing. Everything that comes with the gun, stays with the gun. I alos have a WWII 1911... Remington Rand that has all matching parts.
These came in the Kraft cardboard box with the pistol and magazine(s) in wrapping paper. WWII guns came with a knurled short trigger, arched knurled mainspring housing and lanyard loop. They all had the a1 finger cuts in the receiver. Early guns had checkered wood grips. By 1943 plastic grips were standard.
I have WMK2365,. It's my favorite pistol I own! The only thing I changed was the grips, actually found a original mint colt bakelite grips from ww2 and put them on! If you like the old war horses and can't afford today's prices on them this is a good reissue! I have an original mint checkered trigger I plan on installing to make it more authentic!!!
I picked up a series 70 last year from the seventies. Someone had it parkerized. It has that greenish WW2 look and a bit worn looking. I put some original Colt M1911A1 plastic grips on it. It looks pretty cool. I can always change out some parts and have the slide laser engraved like an original too, but even as it is now, I really like it. I gave it to my dad a few months before he died. He carried one in the British SAS WW2, in the USMC at the end of the war and in the Dutch Royal Marines in Java and New Guinea. Now, one of my sons will inherit his Colt 1903, 32acp, which he carried in the service, the other will inherit the 1911 that we can also say he owned. You can see a documentary on him. RUclips Arie Noot MyLastWord.
I had the Springfield version and it was nothing but problems. Sent it back and it was supposed to be fixed but still problems. Neighbor wanted it so i sold it and bought a Springfield SS Champion. Great gun.
I've seen a few copies of these that have a defect where you can see the recoil spring right between the frame and slide. Texas Gun Vault did a review of his O1911A1 and that was clearly visible.
Classic historic legendary you could not if picked a better iconic pistol ! Now if you don't have the WW2 US Holster you should get one , they go together !!! Peace excellent video Sir .
My O1911A1 is from the first run. The first run did not have the United States Property just above the right grip panel. The rollmark on the slide is correct to the original but not as deeply rolled as the original. The rollmark on the right side of the frame has the M1911A1 US Army a little further back and a slightly different font and not as deep. The reissue is patterned after a 1942 A1. The slide stop, thumb safety, trigger, hammer and MSH are all supposed to be checkered. The trigger is not and the MSH is serrated. The transition to all serrated parts occurred towards the middle or end of 1945 when the war ended and all contracts were cancelled. The hammer is more in line with the pre-A1 model. Colt states this reissue is a faithful reproduction and not an exact copy. Colt collectors were quick to complain to Colt that they didn't want any reissue to affect the value of original Colt manufactured between 1911 and 1945.
I've owned one of these since around 2005! Mine is in the 2300 range ser no! It's a good gun, I've upgraded to a real ww2 checkered trigger and have actual large ring mint colt grips from ww2 on mine!! It was my first 1911 and of course she will never be for sale! I also had an early ww1 repo and never put a bullet in the magazine ! Sold it to a friend yrs ago! Everything I see him he says he hasn't ever shot it and asks if I want to buy it back! I haven't said yes yet! I have a government SS 38 super also!!
I knew nothing about 1911 model pistols. I got a RIA in 45auto. I’m a fan now and have my eyes on a gold cup. Before I was not thinking $1,700-$2,000 for a pistol was worth it. My RI was $525. And even at that price that pistol is a nail driver and I’m deadly accurate out to 60 yards with it. My buddy with a colt gold cup let me shoot his….. I gotta have one.
If I ever get a Colt Goverment 1911 I would leave it as is because we'll it's a Colt and it's the real deal. On my Springfield Armory 1911 A1 Mil Spec well that's another story. In my oppinion SpringField Armory did a crappy job on the replica World War II plus the trigger suck so I did some modifications on it putting a Wilson Combat Beaver Tail and Hammer and a Kilomous Custom Trigger. With the modifications it shot better. Nice Colt you have it looks awsome.
That is a great question! This particular model run follows the original M1911A1 markings. Why patent numbers are included on this firearm (and many, many others) I'm not actually sure. My only guess is that it serves to warn people trying to copy them that certain parts and features have been patented and protected. That's my best guess but maybe someone who sees this and knows for sure will comment. Thanks for watching!
Not yet but I just got some .45acp in. I imagine I'll have a video up over the next weekend. It's a lot of fun to shoot, just have to be aware of the hammer bite.
There are lots of 1911A1 versions out there. I think Springfield has a good repro. There are probably some aftermarket beavertail extensions for the A1...I've just not looked into it. I think most who get the 1911A1 want to keep the same look and feel of the WWII era without an extension. The Colt Series 70 has a similar look and feel and may have just a bit more length on the beavertail. Pricey, but it's a Colt.
Colt has one thay call the classic. Got one it has MIM parts but is well built and shoots great. Fairly cheap got mine for 650. Also have a mil spec Springfield also shoots great. The best part is thay both have A1 sights but are bigger than GI versions.
Colt should either round off or slightly bob the hammer or extend the beavertail slightly to eliminate the hammer bite. I had a Colt government model that bit me all the time. We parted ways a few years ago. That type of pistol is not for me. Shooting is supposed to be fun, not painful
I'd sure like to have one of those but too much for my current finances. Inland Mfg makes a great 1911A1 clone but its a series 80. if it wasn't for that I'd get one, they're a little less than $1k.
Man what bad ass piece dont ever sell it cant wait to get mine finally the wife is gonna let me get one just bought us a house and shes cool with me spoiling myself this tax return with my dream gun im gonna get the blued series 80 version
Was hoping you would field strip it, so we could see if it is a Pre 70 series/actual G. I. or if it has a series 80 style firepin safety. The Colt ww1 reproduction is a pre 70 no firing pin safety, like the original. The only thing keeping the Auto Ordnance from being more like the orig. ww2 is the firing pin safety, and not being a short checked trigger and checkered mainspring housing.
Definitely not upset. I welcome all genuine comments and discussions on the channel =) Hickok's gun is the WWI version. Colt came out with remakes of both the WWI and the WWII A1 versions. This one is the WWII A1 version. There's a really good article at w w w .m1911.org/prodte28.htm that discusses the small differences between the original Colt A1s and this Colt A1 reissue like the hammer spur you pointed out. Definitely a good eye!
Please don't be upset, but the hammer and beaver tail you have on your pistol are from the WWl. The WWll version have a more straight and up hammer spur and a just a little longer beaver tail. Maybe they mixed by lapse, I don't know, these two pieces on your gun. Compare it with a regular Colt 1911A1 and you will see. For instance check the "1911 WWll Colt close-up" out, from Hickok45's channel.
Nothing wrong with beaver tail grip safeties, but I've fired thousands of rounds through 1911's with the standard grip safety and standard Government hammer, and I have never been hammer bitten by one of them. My Browning Hi-Power does bite a little, because of the short tang.
This one definitely gets you if you aren't careful (sometimes even when you are). The beavertail doesn't really cover the entire width of the hammer. It'd be interesting to see the auto ordinance beavertail and compare.
I own the Auto ORDNANCE 1911A1 COLT CLONE, my beaver tail looks exactly like this one though I have never had it pinch me when shooting? I have medium to big size hands I guess?? My Taurus 1911 has the nice, target shooting beaver tail, I shoot both pretty good, the AO has just enough beaver tail, just EXACTLY like the old mil spec 1911's do.
Just saw this video and im jealous lol. In all actuality this gun to be really true to the T is its supposed to be blued not parkerised!! It looks more like a Remington Rand or an Ithaca than anything else.
All the details complaining is interesting. I served in several Army National Guard units and some 1911A1’s had wide hammers some narrow. The checking varied on triggers and thumb safety. Remember more than one company made complete firearms and many made copies. This Colt is probably how Colt made them in that time period so. Get one.
Hey just curious as to when did National guard start the transition to the M9? I guess it depends on the unit but ive read some stuck around for a very long time .
John Dillard thanks for the reply. I found the last big M9 contract for the NG/Reserves/Navy was around 96-97 which is in line with other accounts I’ve read of the 1911 being phased out. I can finally put my mind at ease lol
If nostalgia is your game, an actual one made in the early part of the century are still available for the same price, or close. I see 1917 models for 1100
@BHPfan26 Thanks! I keep my eyes open with all of the gun shows in Dallas and Ft. Worth to find another. They're definitely scarce and when you find them there's usually a nice premium on the price. I guess dealers know what they have. Love your channel by the way. Can't wait to go through all these new vids!
The military will be releasing 10,000 of the Colt 1911M1A as surplus firearms very soon. Look out for them, they will go fast. These are og firearms that have been refurbed by the mil armory.
Acid Rap the Civilian Marksmanship Program, the sell surplus rifles like the m1garand, check there website and contact them see when they'll be receiving them. Cherish that beauty ✊
Hell ya! I’d love to that old war horse.
Im getting ready to give it to the grandson of the guy in Vietnam who saved my ass several times

That's A WONDERFUL Idea.
That's what I would do. Got
Mine after NAM that was made in 1917 saw MARINE Action in WWI and WWII

My uncle has one from ww2 and it is the nicest feeling pistol ive ever seen, you cant beat the craftsmanship of that time.

Thanks! Me too! I would love for Colt to bring back some of their classics like S&W has done. Some of the older revolvers would be nice to have.
