Hickok45 videos are filmed on my own private shooting range and property by trained professionals for educational and entertainment purposes only, with emphasis on firearms safety and responsible gun ownership. We are NOT in the business of selling firearms or performing modifications on them. Do not attempt to copy at home anything you see in our videos. Firearms can be extremely dangerous if not used safely.
I'm just a sort of "everything" guy. So many types of guns; so little time! :-) Why would someone want to limit himself to just blondes when there are so many hot redheads and brunettes out there!!! That's Basic Hickok45 Philosophy 101. :-)
My Springfield 1911 A1 9mm jams on ANYTHING .. .. lucky to fire 2 rounds in succession. Bought it brand new and it is not something I would buy again (if only I had known) The rear sight did tear up my thumb and fingers. ..the gun stores all had meager inventory (So I prefer my Ruger Match Champion). Night Hawk says they can get it to be reliable for another $950 I have to decide what to do with it.
Who here has Hickok’s famous “gunslinger queso” recipe?
I love this guy's videos. Natural enthusiasm--never seen anyone so comfortable around guns. It's like he's picking up a pencil and writing with it. :)
He makes me want to move to Tennessee and buy some land.
I bet there's a lot of lead in those hills.
New Springfield 1911 loaded arrived. Shot about 200 rounds over the past 2 weeks and what a great pistol. It is my first 1911 and is wonderful. My dad loved them. Great video of classic firearm now over 100 years old and we are still copying the design, grip angle and more on modern pistols. John Browning was a genius.
Take a look at this horse and buggy era hand gun. The genius Browning took 10 years to perfect this weapon ,basing it on modernizing the colt 45. The 45acp matched the 45 colt ballistics but was packaged in a new fast loading masterpiece. What a man.
I always find it cool and fascinating when you zoom it in and you can glimpse the bullet in flight before it strikes that big gong.
This is my favorite 1911 because my 1911 compact is from the same time frame and love seeing how capable this firearm can be. Thank you for sharing, Hickok45!
They weren't called compacts back in the day!!
You could never go wrong with a Springfield anything.
You could argue that a mil spec Springfield 1911 is as classic as a colt 1911. Soldiers carried colt AND Springfield weapons on them for a good while. Springfield makes damn good guns.
Depends on Which Springfield The Real Springfield Armory Closed In 1960’s 😪😪😪
Springfield 1911 the most reliable side arm in the world.

I love how sometimes you can just barely see one of the rounds right before it hits the 80-yard target.
I think that's most often a magazine problem, usually weak springs. It can also be an issue with the extractor.
Picked up a used 1911 A-1 and i love it . Fun to shoot and reliable . Fits in well with my wheel guns . I like a classic over modern .
A used A-1!! ... well if it was never used you'd have a very valuable gun & play the lottery!
Well, I just bought a Springfield M1911 Mil-Spec. $620 total with tax included so heck of a deal. The guy at the gun store kept on introducing me to $1,200 Kimbers. I was like, if I have to pay that much, might as well get a second FN FNX 45 Tac! The guy smiled and pull out the Mil-Spec and two weeks later, I bit! It was exactly what I was looking for! The classic “old” 1911 look that speak to it history! Can’t wait to try it at the range!
I’ll take 1911 day over super bowl day, any day of the week.
Appreciate it. Thanks for helping to feed all my hungry pieces of iron!
Beyond decent sights and a safe, satisfactory trigger, you might not really need anything else as long as the gun seems to function reliably.
The next step might be a nice beaver tail safety. An Ed Brown Hi-Ride (I think that might be what he call his) beaver tail grip safety makes a huge difference in the way the gun feels. A flat mainspring housing and a long trigger is usually preferred, but not by everybody.
I have a SA 1911 Mil Spec and absolutely love it. I did replace the rear fixed sight with an adjustable and added a steel guide rod and put smooth black walnut grips on it but apart from that it is still right out of the box. I have put at least 2500 rounds through it, mostly my hand loads and have YET to have a stoppage. It shoots like a champ.
I have a Mill Spec Springfield just two years old now. Mine came with the good stuff in it and I also put walnut grips from the Defender as well.
Hickok I watch all your videos love your take on guns.
Some 1911s (custom, usually, I guess) have an integral feed ramp as part of the barrel, but the basic design does not. They usually feed pretty well, especially hardball. If you want to feed hollow point ammo, you want to make sure you test it well.
I love that gun. I will hopefully be getting one very soon. I turn 21 in 19 days. I hate not being able to go shooting while I am at school. Thanks for the videos Hickok45!
Did you ever get that gun my friend? I see you haven't made videos on your channel in years... Hickok makes very watchable videos...
Greetings from Brazil. Congratulations for the videos, Mr.HickoK45.

Hands down coolest and best and honest firearm reviews on here , I always go to his videos 1st and wished there was a ringtone for the steel and gong sounds on here lol , legend status sir 💪✊✌🔫
Download the video, convert to MP3, crop audio, use as ring tone..
Hickok45, thank you for all of your video reviews. Your reviews are the only ones I watch anymore, I help out in a gun shop & I am still learning about all the different models. I had no idea how much I didn't know... I shoot as many as I can, your videos are very professional & helpful, thanks for keeping it strait & to the point. Now if only I could afford to shoot as much as you do:)
This guy is a Gun Guru. I respect him alot. He should have his own show.
No, I used to cast some round balls for muzzle loaders, but I don't do that much anymore.
I like how you drop magazines like spent garbage.
In a real situation, no one would baby the mags around, so it's good to get used to drop them. The tacticool trainers tell that.
Frederick Green because it’s his and also it’s not a toy It’s sturdy enough to be dropped
@@bigdirewolf7642 not to mention its a 1911. You could throw it off a sky scraper and it would still work
@aroccop Colt made them originally and still do, but the Springfield is a good quality 1911, too. You just have to look them over; so many companies offer them in lots of different configurations, even Springfield.
I love the Springfield Armory A1 Mil Spec & love it
Once you've shot a good 1911, everything else seems second best.
I need one
I just bought a Springfield Garrison 1911.
@@jmc2398 How is it? I'm thinking about getting the same.
@@Mike45-47Q I think it’s shoots smoothly and very accurate.
Absolutely. I have 2 Les Baers and 1 Ed Brown Special Forces. And a Springfield Armory Ronin. Love the Baers. Love the EB SF. But i love my Ronin too.
man I love your range setup. I really hope I can afford some land of my own later in life. Love your videos; keep'em coming!
The one on the first hill is almost 80 yards; the one on the far hill that is not visible unless I'm on higher ground near the front sidewalk, is 230 yards.
Helping me make my purchase decision. Thank you.
I just got my back from Springfield warranty work. I have the same original configuration. It does take some practice to shoot straight.
The single stack just allows for comfortable grips. I'm taking it back tomorrow for another day at the range
We'll do it again. We could do it more often, of course, but I don't want to turn the channel into too much of a Target Sales Venture. :-) Trying to meet requests as much as possible, though.
How can you dislike this video? Specially with 1911.1911 Colt is the most beautiful hand gun in the world and Hickok45 explains things so well, thanx Hickok ;)
It's 230 grain. It's what I've always shot for about 30 years. IT's the standard round for the 1911. I also like the recoil of the heavier bullet.
The 1911 was designed to fire the 230gr round.
Why do I laugh out loud when Hickock rings the gong over and over. Gota love the 45 and the signature target. 👍🏻
The stock Glock sights spoil more than anything. They are so visible!
always a pleasure to watch you mr hickok.from one tenn resident to another, enjoying your videos and insight into firearms.
Great demo. I guess I'm hardwired to the .45 Model 1911A1. I first stood guard duty with them on the deck of our submarine when I was in the Navy 40 years ago. Now I have a Springfield Armory manufactured c.1991 (a year newer than in the video) with the improved sights, bevelled mag well and walnut grips. The rest is stock (near) mil-spec and it shoots great. I used mine in service pistol competition when I was a LEO instructor and it is now my carry gun, even over my .45 Colt Officers ACP.
I just realized I have that exact 1911, blued, it was a match win springfield with same sights, maybe one of my best shooters.
I love how he always keeps the muzzle pointed away from the camera. That is called good "Muzzle Integrity."
@FatTarget, They've already been sold on Ebay to support the cause.
Thanks
I have that pistol! Great sidearm, and a true classic from the days of even before WW1
At the risk of showing my age, I have always loved the 1911 during my years in the military, and I was sorely upset when they replaced the M1911 .45 with the M9 9mm.
My military service using the 1911 is what compelled me to purchase my own once I was out. I didnt know much about Sproingfields at the time, but I do not ever regret buying Springfield 1911s
Kudos to you! However being an Italian American and also owning a Beretta M9 it was time for a change sir! However special forces still use the good old 45!!
WOW Hickok! I really like the old videos as well as the new stuff! Nice work!
My personal carry-plain Jane 1911A1
It just works

One of my favorite pistols
I just bought a used 1990, Springfield 1911. Great gun
@Chetaz123 , It will outshoot pretty much any shooter. What else can you ask for. By far the weakest link in standing accuracy with a handgun is the operator. Guns will outshoot us.
You warm my heart..My Springfield GI 1911A1 endears me so much I carry mines for 10 years.I miss mines while I was in Iraq while I was carrying my issued M9 for 18 months on combat patrol or convoys.Im glad that I never had to use my M9 only my M4 on sevral dozen occasions for stopping power at mid range, thats a 100M or 25M.But I would have felt better with a 1911 either old military issue or my own.
I bought this gun in 1994, put it in the gun cabinet 6:00 and forgot about it until I found this video. I took it out and shot it! Had a blast with it!!! THANK YOU!😢
I just got myself a Springfield M1911A1 GI. So far I love it. as far as I can tell its not to far off from a vintage "issue" weapon from WWII to Vietnam when it comes to feel and operation. It shoots great and hasn't had any feed issues as of yet. Anyway just thought I'd throw that out there. I just recently came across your channel and I have to say... great job, love the weapon reviews and "lecture" videos (if you'll pardon the word usage).
and is really expensive too. I went with a Taurus PT1911 that had all of the options that I wanted and the whole package came to me for 850. For that price you can't even get Kimber's Custom models, let alone something "fancy". Keep in mind that I'm talking brand new from the manufacturer and not used or getting a "deal" from a gun shop. Quality hasn't been an issue with the Taurus, at least yet. I've had about 400-500 rounds go through it and never had a single malfunction.
Just bought one. Thanks for the review :)
Had one in the Army so got one now and LOVEN IT. Thanks fer vid.
I have a Springfield Armory 1911A1 that I bought new in 1992 and have never shot it. I completely stripped the frame and slide and started hand fitting NM parts. I have went through 2 wives but I still have that same pistol. I am going to finish it this year and finally put some rounds through it............it has been a long wait.
garygrady000 hey what is the "NM" significance? its on my serial too.

So let's see this long dedicated fire arm brother do a video on the final project that cost 2 wife's lol
@hickok45 -- once again your level headed approach to this realm prevails. That is the simplest, truest and indisputable answer to the "carry" question.
Hey Mr. Hickok!
I know this video is old. I've been a 1911 freak since I was a one digit midget. I still have my Colt sidearm from Service. But I've had a Springfield Military Spec for about 18 years. Love it! They got married and now I've had a baby Colt Mustang Pocketlite for a few years.
I'm a Vietnam Era Navy Veteran and a gun nut forever!
Would it be possible for You to send me a target?
I'm 67 years old and I need a thrill. 😁
I've enjoyed Your work for several years now.

The reason the old GI's requested an arched mainspring housing was because revolvers were much more prevalent back in the day, and GIs were used to the feel of the palm swell of a revolver grip in their hands. Back then, they felt that the arch made it feel more like a revolver in the hand so made it more accurate. Of course, back in those days, they didn't learn the weaver style grip and stance or the modern isosceles grip and stance: they were taught to fire "cup and saucer" or just single handed and intuitive....they didn't expect GIs to stand and carefully aim their pistols as if you had to resort to pistol instead of your long gun, you were already in trouble and needed to shoot instinctively.
Yeah, I guess so, but I'm an old revolver guy myself, and that hump has never felt anything like a revolver grip to me. Just always feels so much better with a flat mainspring housing.
You are a amazing youtube video maker, thank you for making these.
@Papieck37 ,
Yeah, pretty much.
Not a great deal of difference, but Colt might have the edge. Colts of any stripe tend to hold their resale value really well, but I'm not sure of the small differences. I know a lot of people count the number of MIM parts a specific manufacture uses. That has to do with injected molded parts, rather than parts ground out of steel the old fashion way. It's a controversial subject and starts lots of arguments among 1911 folks.
I have a Springfiled Amory Mil Spec 1911. Right now I am doing modifications on it. I add a Wilson Combat Bever tail Safety Grip and Wilson Combat Hammer with a Aluminum trigger . It's going to look Awsome when I am done.
Hickok made what I think is a great point on weak springs and 230 grain bullets. I have owned a bunch of 1911s and found that guns that ran poorly with 230 grain loads often ran well with 185 grain loads. I am not sure it is a function of magazine spring or maybe slide velocity. This seems to hold true whether jhp or fmj.
On a side note, I am not sure 230 JHP in .45 auto is a reliable expander. In my experience, the added velocity of 185 grain jhp makes it a very reliable expander. On the other hand, if for some reason you are committed to shooting FMJ ball, 230 grain in .45 auto is probably as good as it gets.
At any rate, if i was going to carry a 1911 in .45 auto it would be loaded with 185 grain jhp. Most likely either Federal 185 jhp or Winchester Silver Tip 185 jhp.
I hope to have a personal range like yours some day..
Yes, the Springfield in this video is basically a clone of the Colt 1911-A1.
When you buy a Colt, then you're buying a name.
@JohnnyMurata , Yes, it came with some ugly brown plastic grips.
@keeponkeepinon88 , I prefer them loose. Reliability is the most important factor. I can't tell any difference in how a loose one shoots versus a tight one. See "Accuracy" video.
@manonglakas, Only from the original 1911 models. If I stretch my thumb out to the left, I tend not to get the hammer bite.
everytime i see it, i say it "I love the setup there" andthe shootin is phenominal.
Springfield 1911A1's had some damn good metallurgy in the bbl. The bbls are tough & very strong as compared to a great deal of 1911 bbls. Kimber has some good bbls also.
Hi greetings from Canada I have just orderd my springfield 1911 basic model (blued) I cant wait for our cops to clear and approve delivery
HELLO Hickok, I have 3 PISTOLS IMBEL 1911 , The 1911 Springfield and manufacturing IMBEL BRAZILIAN?
Good video.
I own 2 Colts and a Springfield... I honestly believe that the Springfield is built better. I am in Florida and the parkerized finish on the Springfield has held up well .
just got this exact pistol was made in 85 and was given to me by the original owner with only 30 rounds through it. cant wait to shoot !!!thanks for the video to hold me over til then!!!

Pleasure watching you popping those .45 rounds sir. A classic 1911 in action.
Another great video Hickok, kudos to you and your son. You keep shooting, ill keep watching.
Just got my first 1911 about a month ago. SA LW Champion Operator. Holy shit. Put some Hogue's on it, this pistol has turned me into a Hawkeye. It's VERY forgiving of my deficiencies as a shooter. Had a trigger job, down to 4lbs even. Amazing, amazing firearm. Has ate everything I've fed it. PERFECT carry pistol for me, I could pick which eye to shoot you in under 5 yards. Strongly recommend it if you can find one. Would love to hear Hickcock's opinions on it in a video sometime.
Ah, the 1911. Beautiful, classic gun.
Dude... is this your backyard? Frickin' awesome. If that was my backyard, I'd be broke. would spend way too much money on ammo. Great video... keep 'em coming.
impressive shooting with the springfield. I had a 1991a1 at one time and people would always cut it down as a inaccurate gun. It did require more concentration but to say you could not hit anything with it was simply untrue. the main thing I did'nt like about it was it only worked well with 230 fmj.
Hey Hickock45, love your channel. Ever consider a video on a Springfield LB Operator? There's loads of reviews on the MC, but not many on the loaded.
Thanks
@JohnnyMurata , I think it would be like the Mil Spec, not sure. I won it back in 1990. Not sure what they were calling them at that time.
great video...never knew you were at one time a 1911 guy!!!
hickok admits to being left eye dominant. he has troubles shooting rifles, and shotguns. i know the stuff he has to go through to shoot. i'm left handed, shooting right handed (i shoot better as a righty), but i'm left eye dominant, and i wear glasses too...okay, okay i'm a mess...i admit it. but at least he has the best place on earth...his house with an outdoor shooting range, in the back yard...nice!!
semper fi, carry on!!
I'm right handed and left eye dominant. I shoot handguns right handed and long guns left handed.
It's not that hard...
@Kuemmel234, Define public. Those who have been raped or murdered while moving around in public would probably like to answer this one for me. I've not had to use the fire extinguisher in my house, OR the fire insurance I have on my house. I'd hate not to have it, though.
@willssonline , We do.
yep, i had all kinds of fun while i was in boot...i still wonder to the day if i can really walk and chew bubble gum at the same time...

I have a request man this is a long shot but do you have a suppressor for any of your guns by chance? That would be amazing if you could make a videos with a silenced glock or something. btw, your an amazing shot.
@buzzclark , Gosh, I'm not sure; it might have been CDNNinvestments. I've ordered from them for years, mostly with magazines, but also for a few other minor parts.
