- Despite the hammer bite and nearly invisible sights on this first 1911 design, I love shooting this pistol. What a piece of history!

Hickok45 videos are filmed on my own private shooting range and property by trained professionals for educational and entertainment purposes only, with emphasis on firearms safety and responsible gun ownership. We are NOT in the business of selling firearms or performing modifications on them. Do not attempt to copy at home anything you see in our videos. Firearms can be extremely dangerous if not used safely.
My son and wife gave me a Colt 45 ACP for fathers day. It is a gift that I will cherish for a life time. I was saving for one and she went and got it for me. WOW!!! It fits the hand so well. All metal and heavy but still like it. Excellent firearm. Great shooting by you.
I had a 1911 colt made by Llama that was my favorite for a long time. Not an original but all the same configuration. Thanks for the memories.
I have become a fan over only a few weeks time of the hickok45 series and i must say it is by far the most entertaining informational collection of videos i have ever seen on this website. i just recently got into firearms and have aquired 4 guns over a 3 year time span and my most recent purchase was a 1911 =-) and i am in love with it! the 1911 videos are my favorite and i lose track of time just watching them. more 1911 videos! lol. Thanks from an Alabama neighbor
Fantastic Hickok, I remember when we returned from WWII and the Colt .45 ACP pistols were hidden in our back packs as we returned to sit on the night stand for these so many years.
Hickok45, I respect you as a professional, as a older from me... I admire you !
"John Browning, l hope you are watching"...😃 This Hickok45 is such a KING😊😊😊
Considering the low sights on that version of 1911, your one hell of a shot. From one Veteran to another... thank you for your service man!
man there isnt a greater sight in the world than watching those zoomed in gong shots. you can actually see the slug traveling down range. its absolutley amazing!
hickok by far has some of the best firearms videos on RUclips
that was cooler than all get out to see those rounds actually fly down range. good job Hickok, as always!
"if i dont want hammerbites i got 5 or 6 others that i can shoot" just loves yours videos hickok!
1911 is easily one of my favorite pistols. As soon as I saw your band-aids I knew what they were for lol!! Great video!!!
1911 gang!
You served? I never knew this.. Sure, Veterans day is over. But we should appreciate you all every day. Thank you hickok!!
I love the camera angle on the GONG. You can see almost every bullets flight and see it drop.
Keep up the good videos Hickock...I enjoy the videos.
@KASYZ250, If you want something that works really well and is very handy, the Guide's Choice might be a better holster. This holster is cool from an historical perspective, but the Guide's Choice is really a better holster.
Hickok..Pleasure to find someone like you here...I just bought a Colt 100th anniversary 1991 1911 blued..LOVE it!
I don't comment very often but would like to say I appreciate your videos and have learned much from them. Thanks and keep them coming.
I was in the Civil War (in another life) and these guns are way much better than what we were using!
That's so cool, you can actually see the slug go down range when you zoom into the gong.
Thank you Hickok45.One of my all time favourite handguns, presented with clear enjoyment, common sense and a little slice of wit!.This is the closest I'll ever get to this and many other classic firearms (being in the UK).Keep shooting and i'll keep watching!.Regards,a fan from across the pond.
Good stuff sir, beautiful gun. Still come back to look at this quality video after years later
that 1911 is the best most versatule side arm there is. good knock down power & a good lookin way to do it. i always heard that germans always feared that gun. anway loved that video thanks hickok
Does anyone else not watch a Hickok video right away then get really excited when they realize they forgot to watch the new upload?
9:35 i love how slow that big 45. acp travels =)
The poor pumpkin visible at 4:40. Must have been a sheer horror for him at this shooting range with a man with 1000+ rounds of .45 ACP ammo nearby.
Oh wow!!! You can see the round just before it impacts with the far target!
my first gun was a springfield GI 1911 I've had guy offer to buy it form me for more than I payed but that one isn't going anywhere. great post hickok!!
peace
Nothing like a 1911 to brighten your day.
Never knew the .45 slowed down that much. I own a replica of a GI M1911A1. Haven't fired it live as much as I'd like, but its a beautiful firearm. Done me good with blanks in reenacting as well.
@RedRocketArms
The 1911 was designed and changed several times between 1900 and 1906.In 1906 Colt and 5 other companies submitted 45 caliber pistols for military testing. In 1907 Colt and Savage entered head to head trials until the end of 1910.On March 29,1911 US Army officially adopted the Colt design designating it Model of 1911.So 1911 has nothing to do with when it was designed but when the Army adopted it.
I bought a 1916 DWM Luger to celebrate the 100th year anniversary of the 1911.
This video makes me want a 1911 real bad.
I was a Tanker from 85 to 88 and started on the M60A3 and went to the M1Abrams and my handgun was the 1911 colt 45
Ah the memories
as of now i own a Para-Ordinance .45 1911, and it's done well the entire time i've owned it. Really reliable, no problems at all.
I just started laughing non-stop when the video opens with the iconic "Hickock45 here" line to the background of a TON of bullets.
Just picked up the 01911, can't wait to take it out. Thanks for the vids
It'd be cool to see Hickok and John go at it on the dueling tree a few times
I love how at 15:57 all you can hear when he's walking is the shuffle of spent shell's on the ground.
Hey Hickok, because of you I'm $1600 lighter in the pocket. I watched you with the Socom 16 about 20 times and had to have one. Can't wait to get it!! Thanks for the info!
Round of applause for the cameraman. As usual, good camerawork. It's a treat to actually be able to see something in a shooting vid!
Always fun to watch the .45 bullets fly into and hit the gong. Great vid, Ty.
hickok i always fall for your little side storys lol, it gets me everytime.
also awesome video i love 1911's
never knew you were in WW2....respect man
Oh, Thank You! Boy, Hickock you got back to me quickly! LOL!! If you can't laugh at yourself, who can you laugh at!!! Should have watched the whole vid!!!!! HA! HA!
@JRBaker84, I'll try to remember to do that and even put the link. I didn't even realize you could put a link in Twitter. I've had the account for quite awhile but just have not used it much. Most of my Hickok45 Internet time has to be devoted to the channel and trying to answer questions here (PMs), at least the ones that get through the filter of what I outline on the profile. :-)
well happy vetrans day hickok and thanks for your service brother !!!!
hickok45 = Class Act Gun Enthusiast! I always come here when I wanna learn and see a firearm in it's element. Really well done videos and I would love to see a Sherman on here someday!
I still can't get over the slugs hitting the 230 gong. Amazing..
I agree with you 100% on the original configuration. Something great about the 1911. Makes me feel excited just looking at one. I love these guns. I did buy a Springfield with better sight picture, beaver tail ext for the misses though. It's a great gun. But I wanted the GI model that day. At least she wanted the 5inch barrel over the colt defender.
I like that not only do you know a lot about guns and shoot them well, but you use words like anachronism correctly. And don't sound like you're selling SWAT gear.
@creepacarbineM4 , "Turmoil" is good in any party. Gridlock is especially good; it's the sign of a free country. Freedom is messy. We never hear of politicians arguing and backbiting, or gridlock, in those countries with no freedom. It's all actually the sweet sound of freedom. :-)
The 1911 is a handsome pistol. It is an icon.
That's a beautiful tanker holster!
@Rail9222 , Right at 80 yards and a little over two feet in diameter, I believe. It's pretty big, which is why it's so much fun to shoot at.
I have a Springfield Armory A1 I open carry in Tex Shoemaker flap holster everyday, everywhere I go. I like it very, very much!
I want all of that ammo and the stack of mags.. i envy you Hickock45 my 1911 is jealous watching you shoot all of those shots down range
@whiskeymedic , Yeah, my dad served in WWII. Pretty interesting that we could both be there at the same time. :-)
You are well preserved for a 90 yr old! Ha!! Got Em with that one!! Great video...
"Let's see if I can find some more ammo, Hey I just happened to find some" LOL, he says as there are nearly 20 clips on the table. Best sense of humour ever!
I've got an old Iver Johnson .32 revolver .My grandfather gave it to me, he said it was his fathers pocket gun. he gave it to me with an old war trophy Nambu he got on Peleliu.
I think we all know, If Hickok did throw away his youtube channel and went on TopShot, The man would steamroll the competition.
Also, I would love to see a full WW1/WW2 pistol series...
It is so funny to actually see the slow .45 slugs go down range before hitting the gong. Reminds me of shooting at clay pigeons at 100Yard with the old 1911 since you can see the bullet travel.
i know veterans day just passed, but thank you for serving our country
Very cool seeing those .45 slugs on their way to the gong in the distance.
Sir you are looking good for being a WWII vet, my dad was WWII vet passed in 1996. God bless you. He talked a lot about the 50 cal., BAR Browning Automatic Rifle and the Thompson which in North Africa he said some guy flipped out and used the Thompson to hunt cockroaches at midnight....Dad set the $%#@ flipped and woke us all up hunting cockroaches with a Thompson...Then he would laugh. Just share it with you. Peace and love! just recently purchased a military standard 45 acp.
Those sights are just phenomenal.
Thanks to ammoforsale :)
visited the website to show support to you and the company
Wow, you can see the rounds in flight when he zooms in on the 80yd gong. Pretty cool, that's what happens with a big slow moving bullet.
All those loaded mags on the table look awesome. Gotta respect the 1911. Thanks for the video Hickok.
Noticed you have a bunch of new looking wilson mags there. Those seem pretty good, but with the one in my Kimber, I still get a bit of a clunk or stutter when feeding, esp. the first round of a full mag. I bought a couple of checkmate Mil-spec mags, like the old original tapered lip ones specified for hardball use only, and now it feeds em in as smooth as dropping the slide on a Glock. I still need more range time with em, but so far im impressed.
And Hickok gets all the free reloadable brass he can dream of!
I have the same exact 1911 and boy it is a amazing firearm!
That is one beautiful row of magazines
I have a Colt WWI re-issue and its my everyday carry gun, I absolutely love it. I dont get hammer bite though.
I love those Wilson Combat mags, they rock I have had several of those 8 round mags!
I finally found the exact same pistol NIB at a LGS and had to buy it. It has the WWI +number so it's the Colt Black Army Model of 1918. As far as reproductions go IMO this Colt is the finest and except for better hardened steel it's just like the originals.
You have an awesome little setup there. Great video !
Thanks for the discount code, needed to replinish the 40 S&W and 45ACP. So, a new 500 rounds in the armory and the code payed shipping plus a little bit extra. Your the MAN and keep up the awesome work.....be well :) Ohhh shopped around a bit and AmmoForSale cannot be beat for price.
*FINALLY.......a 1911 video........ I was going through WITHDRAWALS*
Don't get me wrong theres a lot of nice plastic around these days, but nothing beats a good old heavy block of American steel, flinging slugs that are to big for their own good.
Got to love Hickok45!!! Still my favorite RUclips channel, and still the only one I actually get excited when I see "new uploads".
Sometimes I will not watch right away and "Save" the video for an after work treat.
great video Hickok you make a good point on the 1911
Not much time left in 2011...gotta pack those Colts in, Hickok! I'm sure you still have a few slab-sided guns hidden behind a huge pile of Glocks somewhere...keep 'em coming!
6'8"? Danger your a tall fella. You actually had me going. I was like there is no way Hickok is old enough. Wawaaa. Dohh you got me. Cool holster. Ccw maybe???
I was wanting to get a 1911 of that style and type when I was searching out one for CCW. All of those features just lend themselves well to CCW.
Sadly I couldn't find one made well enough to suit me, much less at a reasonable price point, and went for a base model stainless kimber. Very happy with it, but of course I'm not a huge fan of FCS, nor the look of stainless. But it's easy enough to refinish a stainless gun.
Those small sights make sense, nothing to snag on, made for close defense, can kill 7 enemy in semi auto with a reload after. Bloody beautiful.
haha no, he was joking about being in WW2.
Great video, Hickok! I will have a 1911 some day. I want my first 1911 to be something like that one, close to the original military version. Its really a good looking gun.
Anytime you see the pony stamp on a firearm...It just makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside....becasue you know that pony stamp means every time you pull the trigger you will never get a "click" and always get a BANG!!!!
@scott6207, The final design with the tweaks the military wanted was at about that time of adoption. None of the earlier models are nearly as appealing to me. I prefer what they ended up with in around 1910-1911.
@hickok45 learned two new things about you today. 1. your were a tanker in WW2. 2. You are 6'8 holy shit
The sights on that gun make what Alvin York all the more amazing. How you hit the gong with those itty bitty little sights I'll never know!
Yup, that damn hammer bite. The only reason I dont have an original config 1911, I gotta have that beaver tail
I´m from Austria so I love the Glocks but the 1911 just has so much more style!
Dame you probely took out a shit load of people in ww2 wit that aim of yours
Sometime before Cheistmas ring jingle bells on the gongs. Love your videos they are informative and hugely entertaining.
@adamgagnon Chill out buddy, if you are new here and don't like it, then don't watch. this is a great place for us gun enthusiasts and we enjoy Hickok's humor. On top of that, this is a very informative channel that I enjoy immensely. Don't be such a wet blanket!
@picassopainter2 , I didn't realize that so many people don't watch entire videos or maybe don't hear what I say. Maybe that's a good thing if they don't listen to what I say. :-)
Hickok is to shooting what Chuck Norris is to the roundhouse kick. When Hickok left home to strike out on his own, he turned to his father and said "You're the man of the house now..."
The title just puts a smile on my face. :)
thank you john browning!
Goodness, the M1911 .45 acp is my all time favorite handgun.
Hicock the 1000 rounds of S&B 0.45ACP FMJs you have piled up at the start has me drooling! That's 3 years' worth of ammo quota where I come from (most handgun licenses are limited to 300rds a year or less) and would cost you the equiv of USD 1500. Its almost painful watching you sling so much of it down-range!
It's no Colt, but my Thompson looks very similar to that. It was my first handgun and I plan on it being my son's first. And they are extremely fun to shoot. Probably run 5000+ rounds threw it and the only thing I repalced on it was a cracked barrel bushing.
