Looking great sir ❤ I have really enjoyed the move and new fish room build and all the great information that has come with it. I hope the barbs sell well for you 😊
True and I like that> I dont often mention the monetary value since thats not my main drive but you inspired the new thumbnail for it, thanks! I think it should hook more :)
😄 I will be keeping a few back and will update them when I can. I do have some older videos of them as well. Ive had them for about 5 yrs now. Also nice to see you around the channel and all the comments :)
That is so cool. You really have a lot of fry. Know that was a happy surprise. Wesley up on the loft feet dangling...he's going to have such great memories of his childhood hangin' with Dad in the fishroom. I was trying to think of the equivalent of when somebody can grow and propagate any kind of plant, shrub, or flower and we say they have a green thumb... Trying to think of what you have where you can keep, grow, and breed any kind of fish, shrimp, or aquatic critter... Water thumb? Fish hands? Fish fingers? Aqua Man Hand? LOL, I Iike that one...Aqua Man Hand. 👍❤️👍
Lol fish fingers and aqua man hands… I like those 😄 Wesley was upset with me cause I quit playing to look at the fish lol Crazy most all those fish are gone now and sold 😳
Awesome 👌.. I have just done same with filament barbs.. I probably have 30 juveniles growing up now.. I wish we had them here in New Zealand.. nice fish..
So much more small food for small fry in dirty tanks... Algea is a breeders best friend...! I know I like it and the filth...! Thanks for another good one, keep it up and go enjoy some nature today...!
It's pretty cool when new fish are born that you never expected to happen I finally got some new Albino Cory fry & O M I was so thrilled to see them in the tank I cried cause I knew I wasn't going to be able to catch them. But now after a few weeks they are still doing good & I hope to see more soon & maybe enough to sell 1 day but not holding my breath just in case.
Nice! Yeah catching them out can be the hardest part. I was actually trying to breed these guys this way and why I set all the rock in it. Thankfully it worked really well. I will probably have to fish the babies out at night again to make it easier on me.
@@LRBaquatics yea that's going to be fun I think I'd wait till they were bigger where you could catch them cause at that size they can go in the rocks unless you take them out.
@@LRBaquatics thanks man glad your move went well I'm sad of covid because you were coming to speak at our meeting then covid hit. So i guess I don't know when i'll have the chance to met you and thank you for what you do in the hobby
Lucas, you had me hooked on this fish since you lived in Indiana and they were in with the hill streams. i have since ordered 7 from rod and wet spot. yours seem so much more colorful than mine. if you sell the babies, I'll definitely be ordering some from you. Amazing job!
I love barbs.. I have several tanks of them from Aurulius Barbs to Odessa .. Finally found some filament barbs... I think they are .. they are juvenile and hard to tell. .
Hi sir, can you recommend what size of rocks do you use for rock piles in breeding egg laying fish? are they like 1.5-2 inch ave. size? Also how tall should the rock pile be?
Depends on the fish and the size of the fish. You want the crevasses small enough so the fish cant get in but the eggs can. make the pile at least 6 inches, more the better. 1.5-2 size rock is good for smaller fish and can do bigger for bigger fish.
I wish I could see all my tanks front to back, it really is so cool that you found those babies with the different view 🐟 Facts: "Nature's dirty" . The adults are beautiful! The babies do look really cool from the top view, once you separated into the cup, you can see the stripes; too cute ❤ Lucas, are they in a 20 long?
I've got some Norman's Lampeye killifish breeding in a 75g community tank with white clouds and green neons. Nothing seems to bother them as I have jungle val and they seem happy in there. Should I move them anyway? I have a 10 gal with shrimp. Would be safer?
@@LRBaquatics Thanks LRB! I more meant I have babies now. All of my tanks have blue dreams in them and the lampeyes don't seem to care about them. Been thinking the fry would be safer in the shrimp tank even if I never see adults chase after them in the 75
It was very interesting, like #441, but I didn’t understand why you removed the fish from the aquarium in which they were fine and they bred, and why you cleaned the glass from the algae that the fry ate.
Just an idea if you seperated an end of the tank sectioned it off with a big sponge pad or something that you could put the rock pile up to and against it with holes through it lower down and more rocks on the other side so the babies can go through to the sectioned off area and you could just net them out or leave them in the same water but parents couldn't get them. I also thought of plastic tapestry net stuff or even shadecloth if that makes sense. you could even put some plastic pipe on the bottom in the rock pile going through the barrier and put live food on the other side to lure them over?
I thought about sectioning them off but need a bigger tank for them so I can move side to side and harvest. Also mesh net on bottom to lift up for easy catch. Was what I was going to do for the custom pond rack system.
And yeah they can be hard to find especially these ones. A lot of people sell them under the name but end up being something else. I’ve had it happen to me.
Thanks for your sharing ,in fact I have two baby fish born ,but now only have one alive,so i think i need to isolate the babe fish,i have 6 fish of dawkinsia assimilis
They did sell out but they were at a sale price for $25. I added a few more (20) for others to try and get some but this will be the last round for awhile.
Do you think they pretended to be either Bumblebee Gobys or Clown Killifish to avoid some type of predation (or something like that) in the beginning of their lives?
I like how you are thinking. It is very unique for them to look so different. From their local in india in the western ghats Im not sure what striped fish are there.
Wow that definitely helps, thank you! I was so excited about that order I ran all the way to the house to tell LadyLRB lol Also will upgrade to express shipping no extra charge for you so you will get them on thursday if that is alright? or can wait to ship them express when you will be home to get them. I saw your not to far from me.
I have never seen them labeled as anything different then assimilis on multiple occasions of buying. Also the filamentous is what lead and made me research to get these specific assimilis. If they changed the name that doesnt change my fish. Unfortunately this has been a issue recently in many species types which is nonsensical and just creates purposedful confusion. Alot of real hard core keepers feel the same as I do about it.
@@LRBaquatics I agree about the confusion aspect, but species do exist in this really complex way in nature that is what leads to new species being described from the previously known species. The ones you have are Dawkinsia apsara indeed based on the color and body aspects. Normal aquarium trade doesn't mention these details which is why i think you haven't seen them labelled as something else. But i feel knowing the right id is very important for fish keeping and since you are doing informative videos as well righy information should be imparted to the audience.
I never see the parent picking at the glass but once in awhile try to go for food in the rocks during feeding but for the most part they cruise around in the water column swimming around. Having guppy grass and other soft plants for them to eat helps detour the hunger.
Nice. Barbs are so underrated.
These Dawkinsia grow pretty big. I just love to see channels of new species of fish, they're new for me. Great job!

They could predate your shrimp but playing musical fish with them can sometimes produce babies.

Ah yeah the babies would do good in a shrimp tank. They tend to have lots of microorganisms for them to eat and feed off as well.
It was very interesting, like #441, but I didn’t understand why you removed the fish from the aquarium in which they were fine and they bred, and why you cleaned the glass from the algae that the fry ate.
It’s part of the experiment. They should do it again and eventually they will be back in that tank. I’m not to worried about replicating it.
