    Ser Arthur Dayne is the GOAT. In the books he fights with a sword made from a fallen star. It’s basically magic like Valyrian steel. The show decided two swords would be cooler/less confusing and makes Valyrian steel the strongest.

    In the books Ser Arthur wields the ancestral Sword of House Dayne called Dawn.
    Dawn is not made of steel but is forged from the metal of a fallen star.
    It is described as pale as milkglass and the sword is as sharp and thin as valyrian steel.
    Many book readers think this sword is the ancestral sword Lightbringer, the sword Azor Ahai forged by sacrificing his wife Nissa Nissa.
    Azor Ahai is the legendary hero who fought for the dawn in the Long Night.

    So with Cersei, I always say “I love to hate her” - she’s a fabulous villain, and while she’s a _horrible person_ they do a good job of “humanizing” her in a few ways. I hated her, but I also was able to “understand” her on _some_ level. Even if I disagreed with everything she did, I could at least still understand her to some degree. And then of course when she had to do her walk of atonement, I could sympathize bc obviously no one should go thru something like that.
    She’s smart, she’s witty, and she has some of the best lines in the show, lol (and Lena Heady was the *_perfect_* choice; she makes Cersei so fun to watch) so 🤷🏻‍♀️
    It’s definitely a rollercoaster with her character. 😅

    • @JeremiahConnor
      @JeremiahConnor 2 года назад

      Minus the "...love to..." in your quote, I feel the same way:). Some of my favorite quotes in this series are others talking shit straight up to this dumb bitch...
      "I don't distrust you because you're a woman, I distrust you because you're not as smart as you think you are" - *Tywin*.
      "*Cersei:* You're a clever man...but you're not half as clever as you think you are. *Tyrion:* Still makes more clever than you."
      and my all time favorite...
      "*Cersei*: I should wear the armor and you gown..._SMACK_ I shall wear this like a badge of honor." *Robert*: Wear it in silence or I'll honor you again."
      Uggghhhh. Cersei sucks and she deserves every bad thing that comes her way. All due respect to the Lena Heady, but seriously...fuck that bitch.

      I had no sympathy for Cersei personally. I was giddy when she had to do her walk of atonement. I mean she should have been tortured and executed but the walk of atonement was better than nothing.

      @@danielkyllo4121 lol I mean, I can understand that. I know a lot of people felt that same way.
      Idk if it has anything to do with being a woman/mother, or solely just her character development, maybe I’m even motivated bc of Lena’s performance.. or perhaps even a combo of all those things made me feel just a wee bit of sympathy watching her walk thru the streets. It’s… awful. And yes, she did awful things and 100% deserved consequences, it’s still hard (for me) to see another human go thru something traumatic like that. Idk 🤷🏻‍♀️😂 I think that’s the only time I ever felt sympathy for Cersei; I only really enjoyed her character bc like I said, she’s a fabulous villain and Lena does a wonderful job.
      Aside from that, yeah the Lannister’s deserve everything they get/got. 🤣

    • @danielkyllo4121
      @danielkyllo4121 2 года назад +3

      @@rachelMB I can understand the mother's perspective, and doing whatever it takes to protect your kids.
      I couldn't stand seeing Ned disgrace his honour by telling the lies they wanted him to tell, and then being executed anyway (not Cersei's choice, I know. But it got there because she let Jofferey be the boy/man he was). But what really did it for me was how giddy Cersei was when she learned of the butchering of an entire family, including an unborn baby. Any normal mother would not jump for joy and celebrate the slaughter of a pregnant woman and her baby, the death of a son before his mother's eyes, and finally the killing of the matriarch of a family.
      Anyone who celebrated the Red Wedding, deserves the worst death imaginable. Or at least, that's how I felt! 😅

    See Arthur Dayne was also one of Jamie’s biggest idols, so going back to season 1 episode 6 (I think) when he and Ned fought in front of Lord Baelish’s brothel, Jamie was excited to fight the man that supposedly killed him, as a challenge, and to get revenge on behalf of someone he looked up to.

      To add to that, I don't think Jaime believed Stark could defeat Ser Arthur, that he either cheated or embellished the facts and was hoping for the day when he could expose Ned's lies for all to see. Like you said, Ser Arthur was an idol to Jaime. But he was also a mentor, as a swordsman and as a knight. Jaime was perfectly aware of the skill Arthur possessed, having trained with and against the Kingsguard since he was 15.

    People who can't change with the times are useless when times change. Every one of the people Jon executed met that fate because they couldn't see how vital it was to work for a greater good. They couldn't prioritize the survival of the whole human race above their personal hatred of Wildlings, so they acted like a bunch of crybabies, punked Jon out, and got their necks stretched as a result of their stupidity. He dreamt an old dream, of three knights in white cloaks, and a tower long fallen, and Lyanna in her bed of blood.
    In the dream his friends rode with him, as they had in life. Proud Martyn Cassel, Jory's father; faithful Theo Wull; Ethan Glover, who had been Brandon's squire; Ser Mark Ryswell, soft of speech and gentle of heart; the crannogman, Howland Reed; Lord Dustin on his great red stallion. Ned had known their faces as well as he knew his own once, but the years leech at a man's memories, even those he has vowed never to forget. In the dream they were only shadows, grey wraiths on horses made of mist.
    They were seven, facing three. In the dream as it had been in life. Yet these were no ordinary three. They waited before the round tower, the red mountains of Dorne at their backs, their white cloaks blowing in the wind. And these were no shadows; their faces burned clear, even now. Ser Arthur Dayne, the Sword of the Morning, had a sad smile on his lips. The hilt of the greatsword Dawn poked up over his right shoulder. Ser Oswell Whent was on one knee, sharpening his blade with a whetstone. Across his white-enameled helm, the black bat of his House spread its wings. Between them stood fierce old Ser Gerold Hightower, the White Bull, Lord Commander of the Kingsguard.
    "I looked for you on the Trident," Ned said to them.
    "We were not there," Ser Gerold answered.
    "Woe to the Usurper if we had been," said Ser Oswell.
    "When King's Landing fell, Ser Jaime slew your king with a golden sword, and I wondered where you were."
    "Far away," Ser Gerold said, "or Aerys would yet sit the Iron Throne, and our false brother would burn in seven hells."
    "I came down on Storm's End to lift the siege," Ned told them, "and the Lords Tyrell and Redwyne dipped their banners, and all their knights bent the knee to pledge us fealty. I was certain you would be among them."
    "Our knees do not bend easily," said Ser Arthur Dayne.
    "Ser Willem Darry is fled to Dragonstone, with your queen and Prince Viserys. I thought you might have sailed with him."
    "Ser Willem is a good man and true," said Ser Oswell.
    "But not of the Kingsguard," Ser Gerold pointed out. "The Kingsguard does not flee."
    "Then or now," said Ser Arthur. He donned his helm.
    "We swore a vow," explained old Ser Gerold.
    Ned's wraiths moved up beside him, with shadow swords in hand. They were seven against three.
    "And now it begins," said Ser Arthur Dayne, the Sword of the Morning. He unsheathed Dawn and held it with both hands. The blade was pale as milkglass, alive with light.
    "No," Ned said with sadness in his voice. "Now it ends."

    We saw Rickon and Osha last in the Red Wedding episode where Bran tells them to go to House Umber for a safe haven. The Umbers were Robb's bannermen. After Robb's demise, most of the Northern Houses slowly started pledging to the Boltons. Guess the Umbers realized which way the wind was blowing. Gotta pick the winning side to survive. Wargs get to live a second life, sort of by riding in the bodies of their most bonded animal, usually. Jon probably won't remember, but Ghost kept his soul safe and intact. If they stay together to long, they sort of merge together. But while Beric kept losing a part of himself every time he came back, I don't think it will be that way with Jon. She's not trippin'.

    The Three Eyed Crow, (or Three Eyed Raven, either name works), has only been in the cave for roughly 75 years. His real name is Lord Brynden Rivers, but he was better known as Lord Bloodraven, the King's Sorcerer, because it was said he practiced magic. He is one of several bastard children of King Aegon Targaryen Fourth of his Name. He served as Master of Whisperers and Hand of the King to King Daeron and King Maekar.
    He was exiled to the wall by King Aegon 5 for the beheading of Aenys Blackfyre after Bloodraven had already promised him safe passage to King's Landing.
    Lord Bloodraven traveled to the wall along with Maester Aemon, after all, Bloodraven *is* Maester Aemon's great uncle, just as Aemon is Daenerys' great uncle.
    Bloodraven served 13 years as a Ranger before being elected Lord Commander of the Night's Watch. He served 13 years as Lord Commander before disappearing beyond the wall. Brandon, Jojen, Mira and Hodor find him in his cave 75 years later...which makes him roughly 125 years old.
    There are many great stories about Lord Bloodraven. He is one of GRRM's most interesting and intriguing characters, along with the Red Viper of Dorne, Prince Oberyn Martell, and of course, Daemon Targaryen, the Rogue Prince, who we get to see in the upcoming House of the Dragon.
    My top five favorite characters in all of ASOIAF would be Lord Bloodraven, Daemon Targaryen, Jon Snow, Oberyn Martell, and Arya Stark.
    Top five in the show at this particular point would be Jon, Arya, Davos, Brienne, and Tyrion.

    26:02 -a major point - Cercei wanted to destroy Margery because she fears the prophesy, not because she wants to punish her. For once, I don't think Cercei is motivated by wanting to hurt or lower someone, she is motivated by survival instinct. So her actions with Faith were careless, but understandable.

    His oath to the watch was ended with his death. In fact I'm not sure he technically had the authority to order the execution. When you consider that the two commanders of the watch that we've seen. Have both been killed by their own men. It really doesn't seem like a group you want to belong to.
    That's a question I would have had a hard time answering at this point. I would have been Jon before his death but now. I wanted to see a little more of this post death Jon before recommitting to him. It might have been Cersie for awhile. I was ready to see her deal with the sparrow and the snakes.

    In the books, Edd is probably my favorite side character. His personality reminds me of Eeyore. He's called Dolorous Edd and he is really quite humorous. One of my favorite scenes is at Crastor's Keep when everyone is starving. He and Sam are burning a body and Sam is thinking about how good it smells. Edd tells Sam he hopes he doesn't die because he would probably smell like cracklin. And Edd wouldn't be able to stop himself from eating Sam 😂

    Just when you think Tommen is about to grow a pair, High Sparrow verbally disarms him again. Tommen stays getting manipulated by the Faith. The bit about purity of the mother's love rings pretty true for Cersei. When you really think about it, this whole thing started cause Cersei was willing to go to any length to protect her children. Alliser Thorne is a man who lives and dies on his principle. He fought bravely during the battle of the wall. He didn't make excuses for betraying Jon and he accepted his fate without flinching. From a different viewpoint he simply stayed true to the Night's Watch oath of keeping Wildlings out. That's a worthy antagonist. His last words deserve a mention.

    In European nobility, 'prince' is a rank of peerage. The highest lords of the realms are "princes". As in, they rule over territory large enough to be considered 'principalities'. Just like in the Catholic Church, Cardinals are considered "princes" of the Church. Only someone of the rank of "prince", technically, can inherit the throne. If you watch the Tudors, when Henry raises James Cavill's character to the rank of Duke, the ceremony declares that the king has made Cavill's character "a prince of the realms" by giving him the title of Duke. Because if the throne is empty, a Duke is on the top rung of nobility and in a position to claim the throne. Also, they have enough territory to be the 'principal' or main ruler of a pretty significant region.
    When Robert Baratheon became King of Westeros, Robert Baratheon gave up the title of Lord Baratheon because King of the Iron Throne was more important and the crown's lands and crown's business took up his time, not his ancestral family home and lands. So the title of Lord of House Baratheon passed to Stannis Baratheon, Robert's brother. Lord Stannis, as the head of a Great House and controller of the Baratheon money and lands, was "a prince" of Westeros in the way I mentioned above.
    (If you think about Macchiavelli's great work from the Rennaissance, titled "The Prince", it was a very twisted and cutthroat manual aimed at instructing the highest rulers of the day on how best to rule and conquer and subjugate their enemies at home and abroad, and thus ensure the success of their domain over those of their rivals. In essence, Macchiavelli's work "The Prince" could have been titled "How to Play and Win the Game of Thrones". Anyone we see at any point in Game of Thrones who is making a bid for power or ruling over their House or their Lands? They're "Princes of the Realm".
    Hope that helps.

      Robert gave Storm Land to Renly; and Dragonstone to Stannis. This upsets Stannis for a life, and the reason why stormland lords sided by Renly at first

    • @pacio49
      @pacio49 2 года назад

      @@mhorset Interesting. He gives his brother the captured ancestral lands of the house Robert destroyed (Targaryen) but he gives young Renly the ancestral home. I'd have personally thought to switch those awards. Give the tried and true brother the lordship over the family lands, and the young unproven relative the opportunity to make something of Dragonstone. But then, I would have done many, many things differently if I had been Robert Baratheon. LOL

    the three eyed raven (or blood raven) was actually a targaryen bastard from about 50 years before the start of game of thrones, he was hand of the king but got sent to the wall after commiting basically war crimes in one of the Blackfyre rebellions, where he became lord commander of the nights watch, then dipped beyond the wall and rooted himself in a tree, so he hasn't been waiting for 100 years, closer to like 20 or 30

  • @reevesavage
    @reevesavage 2 года назад

    The three eyed crow or raven is an entity that takes on a new host when the old one dies...so the entity itself has been around for a thousand or so years but the hosts have changed...the current host is Brynden "Bloodraven" Rivers who was a legitimized bastard of King Aegon V (Aegon not only couldn't keep it in his pants but made the path to succession muddled by doing this and giving his legitimized bastard, Damon "Bittersteel" Rivers the ancestral sword that was passed down to each heir, Blackfyre) During the Blackfyre Rebellions, Bloodraven was a staunch Targaryen supporter for his brother Daron Targaryen and eventually was sent to the Wall because he killed a Blackfyre ambassador. Some may say that Targaryens are wont to delusion and madness about having magical powers in their bloodline, but it always seems they end up involved with deep magically driven lives X'D

    I think an important part of understanding Thorne's reasoning is that the audience knows way more about some of the wildling characters than he does. From his perspective they just go south and rape, reave, murder and eat the villagers whenever the wildlings get over the wall. Everything he has seen throughout his long service to the Watch points to the fact that if the wildlings are let through the gate, they might just maraud south as an army instead of staying in the north to fight against the White Walkers. You could compare it like this: if space aliens suddenly attacked Earth tomorrow, would you let an ISIS army into your city to fight together?
