  • With such a large audience and my mastery of videography I should start a blog. For now this will have to suffice.
This is what happens when I neglect the garden in favor of other things. Living by a fairly busy road sucks too as it throws a lot of dust onto the front of the house.
It's a non-stop battle to stay on top of everything.
This was a trial year for the cover crops. Next year will be much more organized and more tame with different cover used in some places.
The hairy vetch is an interesting pollinator attractor but looks too messy for public view like I had it. Next year I need to make a wall of chicken wire for it to grow onto so it's not so unruley. Its a nitrogen scavenger so it's an important plant to have.
The winter rye will look a lot nicer grown in a defined block, more densely without the vetch.
The compost pile needs to go to another location; I would ideally not have one anymore because it's too much work to turn and the no turn option just takes too long. Maybe just better concealment will make me feel better. The area this one is in has proven to be heavy with rock and, gravel, and the occasional dead body from previous owners.
It's been one year since we got the pool which destroyed our lower yard because there's probably ten yards or dirt and rock that was excavated that's also just to much work to deal with after all of the overtime we do at our regular work. We have done a bunch of renovation inside which produced a lot of wood scrap that I'm trying to burn off because taking it to the dump is not an easy option.
I cut down a lot of the hedges as well because they too are just too much maintenance and the previous owners didn't trim them correctly so they became leggy and woody. Now trying to kill them completely has become another challenge. So far they have survived a douse of diluted hydrochloric acid. I need to try a more concentrate formula.
I'm not a chemist but I think it's actually a fairly organic way to go about it.
