He was just so brilliant my late mother just adored him, so kind that he repaid Annie in such a good way. It always surprises me how modest these great people’s gravestones are❤😊
Lovely tribute to a real star absolutely 100% glamorous performer. ..remember his "turns" on the good old days...sadly missed....rest peacefully Danny.❤
I saw Danny on stage live in Australia in 1981. Afterwards we ran into him in the coffee shop after the show. What a lovely, funny man he was. I have never forgotten his show, it still is a great highlight of my life.
As a young man growing up in the 1970s, I always looked forward every Wednesday night to watching The Good Old Days on BBC One. It was televised at the players theatre Leeds, an old style music hall, where the audience were all dressed in period costumes. Danny La Rue stared on this TV show on many occasions and I always enjoyed his performances. He was a good singer and was very popular with the public. God rest his gentle soul. Thanks for making another great video.
An honest artist a true professional a man amongst men with loads of talent helping many others in show business know a star in the sky Rest in Peace Danny
I worked as a hall porter at Walton Hall when Danny was there. He was a nice guy and I have good memories of those days. Some of his family members worked there too, his brother was a gardener. Walton Hall still operating as a hotel in Warwickshire.
How interesting EN. It sounds like it was getting in need of repair and money spening on it, which you'll know better than me working there nice to hear the personal story of somebody who met Danny see you later friend. Alan
A big fan of Danny but never met him. Like many of my generation I was brought up on cabaret and variety shows on TV. Danny was one of the last stars of that kind of family entertainment. I miss that kind of entertainment and the wealth of stars it supported, sadly all now gone. RIP Danny.
I only just watched him in the film Our Miss Fred, it was on talking pictures tv this last week, Danny was amazing. He was always classy. Thank you for showing where he is laid to rest, I am glad he is reunited with his partner.
Hello Amanda wasn't that a coincidence and it's nice to hear that he could act well. He was the master of facial expressions so I bet he was good. Thank you for the great comment Alan
Danny la Rue was the first drag queen I ever saw. I was only a kid and I loved him!! Now I'm a huge Rupaul's Drag Race fan 50 years later. Danny was amazing!! What a legend! Great video 🐱
My mum and I, saw Danny La Rue and Roy Hudd at the Palace Theatre Shaftesbury Avenue London in 1971 I was 15, we came down from North Wales. I've still got the program from the show somewhere in the house.
Thanks Alan, I fondly remember Danny La Rue he was often on television decades ago. He was very well respected in days when gay only meant happy. Wow doesn’t Russell Harty look young, so does Danny. I didn’t know that he had a long term partner and then had a great friend in Annie. Forgot that he was Irish too. He had such a busy and varied life and you have done a brilliant job of paying great respect to him. Nice that he was buried with his partner. Great video Alan, very well done.
Hello Joan, I agree they were both very young looking but Danny was in his mid-50s with Russel but Denny's life took the opposite turn. He had to carry on with the drag act almost to the end of his life because he was robbed very quickly. I read that Annie would have liked to have been his partner if he had been possible :-) They were very close and it was super sweet on a personal level, he left all the proceeds of his costumes to her i feel sure they loved each other. But I think the true love he is buried with. Danny was a superstar and super interesting. Thank you, J, Alan
I've only just seen this, and what a befitting tribute it was. I'd always loved Danny La Rue - my late Grandma was a massive massive fan of his, and I grew up being the same... I remember my parents going to his club too, but I was too young at the time! On Sunday 22nd April 1984 I was lucky enough to be invited to Live at Her Majesty's by Jimmy Tarbuck's niece. I had been the previous Saturday to watch the rehearsal for that night's show and watched Tommy Cooper rehearse his act for the live show. I remember sitting next to Tommy's wife in the stalls, there was only her, me and a few production crew. I was supposed to return to watch the live show, but unfortunately, they were fully booked. So I was asked to come back the following week to watch that show instead. I later watched that live show, and remembered Tommy's routine as I's seen it earlier on. In the rehearsal, he did fumble about in the curtain, that was part of his act, but as I watched it live on TV, I said to my friend "Why is that going on so long? It wasn't this long earlier... then the show was halted and they went to the adverts... very very sad. I did go back the following week to watch that live show and afterwards was invited backstage, just me! I was taken to Bernie Winter's dressing room, where he was amazed how much I looked like his niece apparently! Bernie ushered me along to Jimmy Tarbuck's room and with Bernie enthusing about my likeness to his niece! I was asked to join them for a small private after party - in that room were Jimmy Tarbuck, Bernie Winters, Danny La Rue, Stan Boardman, Engelbert Humperdinck - and me!! Danny was a beautiful a person, inside and out, that I'd always imagined him to be - he was gentle, sweet, funny, emotional and spiritual. He spent at least 20 minutes just talking to me, he even made me cry, but in a good way. Danny was something else, something special I am so grateful to have met him and chatted with him with such heartfelt honesty - I'll always be truly honoured to have done so. That night still remains to this day, the best night of my life.... God rest his beautiful soul ❤
Hello free bird, it was a good owl round entertainer hope you're doing well. I keep having a look at your channel with the horse. Look after yourself. Alan
Oh, sad for Danny in later life. The auction benefitting Annie, how wonderful. Such a modest grave. Thank you, Alan, your interesting videos are a real comfort. You've a lovely manner. 💕
Hi Mairi He certainly had terrible bad luck with that business deal at the end of his life, but he was a tough guy he carried on. Thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed regards, Alan
I remember seeing him live many years ago. He took the show way past 2am and it was epic. He was a true star and a very funny man. Thank you so much for your video :-)
This was a lovelly video Alan, thank you. So pleased Danny & his hubby are buried together. I remember going to see him at Great Yarmouth as a kid with my great aunty & uncle. He was on the telly every Saturday night..a huge star back then in the 70s...very glamorous... I was only about 7...It was a big deal seeing someone famous off the telly back then. Happy memories..thank you 🙏🙏💞
Hi Salina they used to get so many millions of viewers back in the '70s sometimes 15 or even 20 million on the weekend. They would enormous dance. I nowadays it's all diluted down so I can imagine bumping into one of them would have been very special. I like to Danny. He was tongue in cheek. Thank you, Alan
Ive only just came across you channel by chance and absolutely love it! I cant stop watching it,listening to the stories & seeing their final resting place is amazing! Didn’t ever think id get to see anything like what you do,it brings so many memories flooding back of my childhood & the men/women I forgot about who made it so special ❤️what a fantastic channel
Hello Marie, do accept my apologia just didn't see your comment but now I have. I'm so pleased you enjoy it. That's one of the best things about these channels. It brings all the memories back. Sometimes there are so special and thank you for the lovely comment. Regards, hope to see you again. Alan
Hello Barbara I just remembered the people like you do but enjoy the research and I get to know each person better and if it stirs memories that's a great thing. Thank you, alan
Ahh Danny La Rue MR showbiz when the sixties was swinging so was Danny. He was up there with the best the rest followed him. Loved by all . RIP Danny entertaining in Gods theatre now.
What a special story - I just LOVED it and I love how drag queens are so happy to share their self expression with the world - truly special people - thanks for posting - Paulette 💕🇨🇦💕
My mother adored Danny La Rue - I think more because of his glamorous costumes than anything else. A fabulous video, Alan. Informative and with tidbits that I didn't know about before, so it was a truly great watch and listen. Many thanks! Regards and .. have a blessed rest of your week. ~ Cobs.
Hi, Cobs If you ever gonna say the words it's a class act you could do it for Danny. Everything about him was that and it's lovely to see your comments. Thank you! See you soon I hope. Alan
I remember seeing Danny,in Birmingham years ago when I was younger and living in West Bromwich with my mother and father. God bless him and rest his soul. Thank you for your film about him.
Hi Alan, I really enjoy watching your videos of famous people's final resting places and hearing about their backgrounds. I too remember watching and enjoying Danny La Rues shows. As did my late parents. Please keep posting. KR
Hello Jill, Thank you ever so much for the encouragement. I will be posting many more but I can until the end of the month and then there will be lots so come back. Take care, Alan
Thanks for sharing used to see Danny popping into the bank in Southampton it's funny only two days ago said to my sister that's where I last saw Danny la rue they are pulling it down loved him as a entertainer
Thank you for this wonderful memory!! I fell for Our Miss Fred when I was 12.. of course after watching my big brother TRY too do drag, did I mention TRY! Hahaha 😂
I met him about 30 years ago in a theatre bar in the West end. He loved telling me how great he was! Funny guy and he kept buying me and a friend drinks all night!
My Dad was a Roofer and went to do a job on a huge house Danny was renting when he was doing a Panto in Bristol. My dad said he was a really nice man and when he told Danny I was a fan. He gave my dad a big signed photo for me and I got to see him in Panto too. Happy Memories
I saw Danny on stage at the WinterGardens in Margate. I was about 10. He was staying in a house close to where I lived. My sister and I always made sure we were about when he left the house. We used to watch for any activity so that we could be walking along the street. Danny always waved back at us. I remember his show so well it was amazing
Hello Alan. Such a sad story. We see all these celebrities from beginning to end we follow their lives and when they die it is like losing family isn’t it. Because they were true entertainers. On Mother Kelly’s Doorstep. Great song. He trusted two con men and that finished his grand life. If only he hadn’t bought that big place. He had a lovely place on the Thames. If a two letter word but it rules out lives in the end doesn’t it. Thankyou once again and I love your videos. ❤
Hello Barry, yes it was a mistake. He bought the big hotel cos he didn't have the time or maybe the money. And the real problem was the two comment he said on the day to his partner. This is either the best day of my life or the worst. I think he got some inclination and it turned out to be the latter. What a shame. Thank you for the great comment. Alan
I saw Danny at brick Lane 2004/5 he did a charity night and all the money went to charity I had no idea of his struggles in past so it makes that night a very prominent one and shows he truly had a heart of gold, and goes to show behind the smiles and giggles there can be heartache...never understood why he couldn't be a sir he so deserved it!
Thank you Alan for this video I was born 1972 so was grown up with him really loved him so funny wish I was old enough back then to see him all the old ones you just can beat any more your a star you really are thanks again Alan Lee barry ps you should post a lot on TikTok I can get you 20,000 followers merry Christmas Lee barry 🥰🥰🥰🎅🏻
Thank you Lee. I'll take a look at tick tock I always thought it was for younger people and wouldn't suit the subject but maybe I'm wrong. All the best, Alan
Went to see Danny ant the then Coventry Hippodrome and my word he was fabulous such happy times never forgotten Thankyou for doing these reviews there really interesting and keeps the celebrities alive x because he was so good 👍

I have to admit Alan I’ve been watching your videos for quite a while now and the I’ve followed you the more I like you your so open sincere and genuinely a lovly man and I enjoy replying to your videos because I feel like your worth while I like the banter we have regarding Danny la rue loved him what a star he was he was a georgeous looking woman a great entertainer thanks Alan take care ❤️😊
Hello Crystal, it's always great to see you! You've been so supportive of me recently, but you've got to excuse me. I can't remember what we said about Danny, but I remember being very affected by the documentary when he was ripped off and they lost all the money he either quiet later in his life and he came back again. I think he was a very strong man and he made such a fantastic woman. He was very special. I just didn't like the location of his grave because they had an industrial view but I'm sure he was happy with the location obviously. Much love to you and thank you ever so much. Alan
I remember watching him on The Good Old Days with my parents and grandparents in the 70s. I had no idea about all the tragedy that happened in his later life. How awful those con men were. I hope they got they got what they deserved. Thanks for uploading :)
Hello again, lovely to see another of your great vlogs. Unfortunately never got to see Danny live, but his film l think was called "Miss Fred" was on Talking Pictures recently, l love your homely chatty voice its like your in the room with me and not on my phone.lm a recent subscriber (signed on after your Lena Zavaroni vlog ). All the very best a UK fan...............
Hi Alan. How you doing, mate? I really enjoyed this episode. Your research was and is, excellent, as always. It's such a shame to learn that Danny was conned out of his money like that. There really are some horrible people in this world, who will do anything to anyone, and not have a second thought about it. I saw the late Lionel Blair in the video and it reminded me of a story he once told about Danny, one akin to the Princess Margaret story that you recounted. He said that Danny was in a club (might have been his own) and a bloke called him something along the lines of 'poof'. Lionel said that Danny walked up to the man and knocked him off his feet with a left hook. He wasn't one to be messed with, wasn't Danny. Please keep making the vids, Alan. They are all superb and you are a jolly nice chap indeed. Please keep up the good work so that I can look forward to the next one.
Hii Dez Wow! That was a funny one that made me laugh. The idea of Danny punching the guy out. They've been even better if he had done it while she was in drag. Thank you for the great comments. I hope to see you again soon. I am making lots more films by the way. Bye Alan
@@MotorHomeBeepBeep I know what you mean, Alan. Fancy being knock out by a geezer in high heels! I'm glad the story made you chuckle. I'm also glad to hear you're going to be making more films for us all to enjoy. Don't stop doing what you're doing, because your videos are always brilliant.
Hi Alan what a huge cemetery with lots of wonky headstones I burst out laughing 🤣🤣🤣🤣 when you said about his equipment you certainly make me laugh. Gosh it must have taken some finding he was a great entertainer it’s a good job I didn’t have a sweet in my mouth I would have choked 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 you are so comical. Thanks again for another very interesting tour and as always I am glad you have a little word with them . Hope you are now relaxing it’s 6 30pm and about time I put the baked potatoes not the oven. Enjoy your evening. Keep beep beeping and most of all keep😀😀😀😀 smiling. Bye for now 👋👋👋👋 look forward to the next tour safe driving. Sandra
Hi Sandra long time ago I went into a gay bar and was watching the erotic dancer that l thought looked rather nice only to be told it was a not-woman :-). That same evening a man squeeze my bum so I've got nothing more to say aha Sometimes things are out of our control but Danny was a great performer, a class act. And thank you for your comments. Bet the potato was lovely. See you, Alan BEEP
Fantastic video Alan i can remember him performing at my local theatre in great Yarmouth never actually see him live on stage but he used to stay in Gorleston near were I lived and I happened to see him a couple of times around the town great video Alan
Really interesting what i have taken from watching your episodes is it seem to be no matter how much money and fame you have we all end up in a patch of dirt or pot and if lucky have a head stone ..i do enjoy your wise words at the end of videos about not to worry to much and try and live the best you can because one thing is for sure this is no rehearsal ..Top work
Hi Daniel well that's so eloquently put bye you but true, you made me laugh :-) But beyond the last bit and the bit before the last bit if you get my drift It's amazing how many of these celebrities that were thought of as important end up with sad endings. Even this one had a sad end when in his fifties all his money was stolen !. There seem to be more sad ones than happy ones but as they said, don't let sweat the small stuff, let's just enjoy everything we can, i try. Lovely comment. See you soon friend. Alan
Woww what a story what a life. I remember him from watching tv with my mum . thought he was funny . Didn't realise he had gone through all that heartache 💔 he sounded like a very thoughtful and caring guy. He lived a long life. Was so nice of him to think about the lady what a lovely guy. Thanks again for sharing this I found it very interesting love Gill Holmfirth West Yorkshire 😀
Hello Gill, either had a fantastic life in his old age. If he hadn't have been conned just shows you how quickly Sunday's life can implode. Thanks for the message. See you for the moment. Alan
Thank you so much for enlightening us on Danny’s life. He really was a popular character, but to see the photo of him with his medal was quite amazing. So different & smart in his morning suit! Love your narratives, must do a lot of research before you shoot the video. Thanks again👍👍😉
Love your name. Roger the Dodger it reminds me of school. I had a friend called Roger . Franky he was a very stylish and genuine man. It was a pleasure to the film and the great pleasure to answer your comment bye Roger
Your videos are great, and this one brought back so many memories of watching Danny on the old black and white sat with my Nan who loved Mother Kelly’s Daughter and taught me the whole song when I was about five years old 😊 the wet seat story was just a story I hope! I’m a 54 year old woman and I’ve never wet myself in my life… so gawd knows what Danny was doing to make them pee 😂😂
Hi Dia amazing! What different memories these performers being back to us? I love reading the stories like yours. It's like you revisited that time I remember your Nan. The story about the seats I don't think was untrue it was said as a statement of fact but I've got to admit I don't think I'd want to sit on the seats in that theatre even if they were dry :-) look after yourself. Alan
Hi Alan I never liked Danny la rue I'd turn the TV off lol but having watched this tribute I feel sorry for him getting ripped off and very surprised about the Princess slap thing.Cheers again this one has been one of the best!
Hello Roger, it was horrible He lost everything so quickly that it worked for all his life but he came back. He was a fighter. Thank you for the comment. Alan
He was just so brilliant my late mother just adored him, so kind that he repaid Annie in such a good way. It always surprises me how modest these great people’s gravestones are❤😊

I always remember my parents singing on mother Kelly's doorstep it brings back so many memories, Danny was so talented
Hello Valerie, how nice it triggers the memory. It does remind you of the olden days that song. I'm still looking for paradise lane ? . Take Alan
I saw Danny perform at Fairfield Halls, Croydon. He was and always will be a legend 👍🏻👍🏻😁
My old hairdressing lecturer was great friends with him and used to do his wigs Alan
@@nigelmarshall5262 that is wonderful 👍🏻👍🏻😁

I was fortunate to see him in pantomime a couple of times. Very interesting. Thanks for uploading.
I remember mother was a fan of him in the early days never knew he had passed away though thanks again for finding his burial place.
Wow poor Danny. He really lost everything in his mid 50s but he kept on battling on. He was a fighter. Cheers, John
Thank you Alan. I only remember Danny as an entertainer so all his life history is very interesting.
Hello Elizabeth, what a lovely childhood memory it was so feel good to read. See you, Alan
Alan
Thank you mate very good, keep up the good work
And you Dean all the best mate
I saw Danny at brick Lane 2004/5 he did a charity night and all the money went to charity I had no idea of his struggles in past so it makes that night a very prominent one and shows he truly had a heart of gold, and goes to show behind the smiles and giggles there can be heartache...never understood why he couldn't be a sir he so deserved it!

God bless him 🌟
A very clever performer.
Thank you so much for a wonderful insight on Danny, got his autobiography xx
I loved watching Danny great entertainer. R.I.P Danny🙏😇💖
Very interesting thank you 😊
Very interesting Video. Thank you.
Kind of you Philip best Alan
That same evening a man squeeze my bum so I've got nothing more to say aha
Sometimes things are out of our control but Danny was a great performer, a class act. And thank you for your comments. Bet the potato was lovely. See you, Alan BEEP
Great Entertainer our Danny was. Thanks for sharing this
Fantastic video Alan i can remember him performing at my local theatre in great Yarmouth never actually see him live on stage but he used to stay in Gorleston near were I lived and I happened to see him a couple of times around the town great video Alan
Cheers Karl
Great he as. Due Lesley Phillips he was great just died yesterday very sad
Yes Ken :-( he was 98 !
Alan
Hi Alan loved Danny growing up your videos just get better and better never stop. Doing these videos Alan just love them. Regards Sharon
Hello Sharon, are you really enjoy doing them, especially with your comments. Great to see you. Alan
Seen Danny many times when he tread the pubs and clubs boards
Lovely person Rip ❤
I met him in a bar in Cannes many years ago. He was a nice chap
Alan
Part of my childhood watching him on the Good old days.i don't live far from graveyard will visit
A very good Pro forma and a gentleman to know🙏🙏🙏👍👍👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I saw his show at the Brighton Dome when he was getting on a bit and admired that he was such a grafter.
A regular on the Good Old Days, Mother Kelly’s Doorstep, I sang it to my children, RIP Danny Boy, lovely tribute to a great showman
Alan
It's wonderful that Danny is with Jack. RIP Danny La Rue.
Enjoyed the video thank you ❤
Hi Sandra :-) Alan
Hi Alan I never liked Danny la rue I'd turn the TV off lol but having watched this tribute I feel sorry for him getting ripped off and very surprised about the Princess slap thing.Cheers again this one has been one of the best!
Hello Roger, it was horrible He lost everything so quickly that it worked for all his life but he came back. He was a fighter. Thank you for the comment. Alan
Thanks
My parents loved Danny ,they used to watch him on this show called 'The Good Old Days '. He had a figure to die for,I was so envious
I remember him when i was a child mainly on a programme like a variety show but wasn't, Andrew sacks used to host it.
