quick question: what do you do if you draw lines of action and contour lines but the overall art looks flat once you erase/remove them when trying to make the finalized version of said art?
@@corncobbob2326 if it's more into just lineart, I'd say depth is also important like making something bigger or smaller depending on perspective. If it's colored, it's either opacity of the colour or the blending with the shading and base colour.
Omg I didnt expect xiaofanchuanart to show up on my recommended feed Ur art posts in FAO never fail to impress me! Hope the algorithm blesses u Also I remember u were working on a horror game? Or am I misremembering. Just wondering how it went
@lunarwolf-pie813 as long as they follow the form it's fine for example if drawing the contour lines (string ) around a tube don't draw a series of straight lines , wrap the string around the object, that way you can visualise it 3D
The amount of help this girl gives me
I choked on air when I saw the first image-
ME TOO 😭😭
Learning it is easy and fast, but doing it intuitively take years. Be patient people, your art is not running away

@@corncobbob2326 You could also probably try thickening the line art in certain places, shading, and upping the contrast. Hope this helps!
This is crazy helpful
what i don’t get is how are you supposed to make stuff not look flat if the contours don’t show up in the final product
Because you use light and shadow to describe the contours more dynamically than if you didn’t have them as a guide
You use it to know where to place to place light and shadow
Contour flattens any image, because it isnt real and always remind you that this is a piece of paper
Tbh if u sketch it right it will look 3d even without the shadows etc , its kinda hard but it’s ez after a while
Also wanna add color theory works absolute wonders with depth, especially making sure your tones contrast each other
I’ve heard of this technique before, but this is the first time I’ve heard it explained so well. Thank you ❤
The 2nd piece is beautiful

mine looks flat because of hard edges
✨ thanks!
this looks like 3d vtubers in blender
The red and blue lines run in perpendicular directions, not opposite ones.
شكراً 🙏 🤍
Volume. Got it:)
I feel like I'm still confused about how you use the lines 😢
Imagine some string wrapped around the object
@@PhantasmThe so does it matter exactly how you use the strings?
@lunarwolf-pie813 as long as they follow the form it's fine for example if drawing the contour lines (string ) around a tube don't draw a series of straight lines , wrap the string around the object, that way you can visualise it 3D
@@PhantasmThe I guess that makes more sense. thx for the extra explanation. 😊
I thought those chars were made in blender lol
