Of course! That’s a given. The 2500s have low capacity from the factory, so adding a soft ride spring reduces it further. If you want to tow with a 3” system on a Ram 2500, just run a set of Timbrens when you do, and take them out to enjoy the ride quality and off road capability the rest of the time! That gets you the best of both worlds. The entire purpose of the leveling system is to retain the rear coils for people that need factory capacity at all times, and are willing to give up off road ride to achieve that.
@@CJCOffRoad I'm really wanting to do the 3" pintop system with torsion bar on my '16 2500. I like the idea of the bolt on/bolt off capability with the Timbrens to supplement. Do you have an estimate as to how much of an impact on the factory payload capacity with this set up or is it pretty close to factory?
The 3” system with rear coils retains 85% payload. For times that you need to have full capacity for towing, Timbrens are literally four bolts and go in place of the factory bump stop. You don’t want to off road with the Timbrens in place though. They’re an on road only towing/payload solution.

We just need the trucks and time to film it! Re-gearing depends on your starting ratio and personal preference. We always recommend doing 37s, and then seeing how you feel. For a truck towing that much, a 20/37 set up is probably going to be the better choice.
Okay, now let's see the trucks with Add a pack from Carli, and the full Deaver Leafs from Carli. What you're showing us is a stock rear suspension with a set of timbrens. I want to see 3k of tounge or pin weight, and 20k behind it.
Easy, if that’s your needs first off you should buy the 3500 not the 2500, and then you use the long travel Carli airbags with the leaf spring setup and load leveling electronics if you want to get fancy.
That's spot on! For that kind of towing, we'd recommend doing a 3500 with the factory rear leaf pack and air bags, or the Carli add a pack with air bags. This video is much more within the towing needs of our average customer so that's why we made it.
Was that a Thule rack system at the 1:52 mark? I have Thule racks but what do you have mounted on top of it? Very interested in that setup if it’s a tent setup!
We typically recommend doing a track bar to correct front end geometry with the level. It's included with the 14+ pintop level shown in this video, but needs to be added to the Carli Fox 2.0 level.
Looks to be a bit more squat than what I personally would like. Not sure if the trailer was loaded a bit front heavy or if you just need to add timbrens or etc for the heavy loads.

So can u add the carli long arm to a leveled truck with out adding all the crazy expensive shocks. Or is it pointless. My truck sees mostly blacktop just looking for a smoother ride
I can tow a car with full leafs on my 16 F250 and it doesn’t squat and handles like it’s empty. I’m sure a heavy 5th wheel toyhauler or something like that would require the airbags.
Cody, Question. I am having installed the full 3.5" Backcountry Kit with progressive rear spring pack. I do tow a 17" trailer sometimes. One is a V nose enclosed 7K tandem, the other a 17" open with my Polaris Ranger NorthStar. Should I need add airbags to my rear? Thanks in advance and Love your videos!
This truck is the perfect all around truck and looks🔥🔥🔥!!! And it TOWS💪💪...AWESOME content guys you guys knock it out the park!!! Time to sell my wife's car lol🤫
Very well, although for an overland style build we always recommend getting a leaf sprung Ram 3500 or Ford. The rear coil sprung Ram 2500s don’t make a good platform because of the low payload capacity.
Very well. I have Carli Pinetop leveling I kit and a 3300lb truck camper on a Ram 3500 dually. Night and day difference from stock ride. Obviously w 3300lbs in the bed there is some reverse rake, I level out with air bags and it has been a dream. Would do it again in a heart beat.
On your website it states that if we option for the full progressive leaf springs, it decreases towing capability by 10-15%. However, in multiple videos when you mention your leaf spring upgrade option, you say it doesn’t affect towing capabilities. Can you please explain?
It has to do with the exact options. The standard leaf springs alone reduce capacity, but when paired with factory air ride or Carli's airbag system full capacity is retained. Carli also has multiple leaf spring options with higher capacity for trucks with campers etc. Long story short, we can always tailor a build to your needs.
@@CJCOffRoad thank you for such a quick reply. So if I am using a gooseneck like in this video loaded down to the max, but want to have the most comfortable ride quality while on the interstate. What rear leaf spring option should I choose if I do get airbags for the rear?
If you don't mind, send us an email to sales@cjcoffroad.com and include the average pin weight of your trailer. We'll recommend the best setup! It's hard to keep up and give detailed recommendations on RUclips.
Can you run the carli long travel airbag with a daystar cup? I have more than 12" rear travel on my 2006 ram and dont want to use the airbag as my "limit strap" would you recommend airbags or timbren for 14" rear travel leaf springs. 2006 Ram 2500 thuren 3" LT leafs, and long arm front. 3.0 kings front and 2.5 resi/bypass rear. Raceline w/37x13.5R17 Nitto Ridgelines. I tow a 18K triple axle cargo trailer and a 42ft 17K lb 5th wheel toyhauler regularly.
No they need to be mounted to the frame and axle, and are designed to work with 12" of rear wheel travel. If you want to maintain a full 14" of travel, you'll need to use Timbrens or Sumos with spacers and remove them when empty. Any airbag kit will sacrifice either upward or droop travel sadly.
Definitely do a full 3” system on the truck. If it’s street driven only, the Commuter is great. If you want to hit the dirt, the back country and pintop are where it’s at!
I have a 2019 ram 2500 gasser. I almost hit the buy button on your level kit with fox tuned shocks until I noticed it was for diesel only. Do you have something like that for a gasser? I tow a 36’ travel trailer about 10 times a year. I’d like to run 35’s on it.
So how do you combat the gear ratio change in the wrong direction putting bigger tires on the truck? My RAM has the middle ratio giving me more towing capacity, tires over the stock size reverses this .
I'm curious how your products would perform with a camper mounted on the back. I just bought an F-350 and will be installing a 2800lb pop up camper. Of course I'm not going to be jumping the truck or driving down a rough road so fast that everything in the camper goes flying about...but it sure would be nice to improve the ride over what's stock. I think I read/heard that you guys don't recommend more than 2000lbs on the back with your products?
For something in that weight range we recommend running a Carli pintop system paired with a Custom deaver spring rear leaf pack. They can build a pack for any weight, so it’s always best to build out the camper and weigh it with all your gear before going ahead with the pack. That will get you the best ride with zero sacrifices!
@@CJCOffRoad Thank you sir. I'll look into it. Camper won't be built until February. Very expensive truck and camper...why not make it real nice, huh? Especially since I travel to remote trailheads, etc...it would be nice to see some video of this spring/shock combo on a rig with a pop up on it. Not doing "Rapor" like moves, of course...just driving down an uneven dirt road without all the drama. That video you guys had of a stock F-250 vs. another with the Cali really opened my eyes.
The 2500 trucks have coil rear springs so you can’t run a full leaf pack. As for the trans, this truck is able to shift through all gears just fine, even with the load.
If you're running a ram w/ 68RFE i would do 4.30,. 4.10 puts you -5% under stock, 4.30 puts you 15% over stock with 37s. My mid-life 35" with 4.30 im at 1900 rpm@ 70mph
This truck is using Timbrens, but keep in mind those are the factory rear coils with a level system, so it would be the same result as if the truck was completely factory. Timbrens can also be used on the 3” systems.
Does this truck have the 3.42 gears like most 2500s? I am definitely considering the Carli leveling system with 35s or 37s for my 2014 2500 that I tow a 37’ Montana 5th wheel with that’s about 14000 lbs. I am concerned about the 3.42 gears not pulling my trailer with 35s or 37s.
ran 3.42 on mine for years w/ 35" towing a 40ft 17k toyhauler. sucks in the hills, but fine in the flats. I did gear to 4.30 w/ 35", with the option for 37". on your 68RFE 4.10 is good, but puts you est. 5% under stock RPM.
This is a poor example. The leveling kit uses stock rear springs so of course your towing capacity stays the same. Only issue is a level kit makes a truck squat in the back when towing which some of us don't like. Please post a video of a full Carly lift and how towing is affected. At what weight do you need to add airbags and does it squat with just a bumper pull 10k pound camper? That's what I tow and what concerns me.
Actually this is a fantastic example since the Carli leveling systems were designed SPECIFICALLY for customers that want better off road performance, with no impact on their factory towing and payload specs. On the 3" systems you have multiple options depending on the make, model, and year of your truck. If you share that, we can recommend a set up and give specific payload/towing specs!
@@CJCOffRoad I think what he is saying is we don't see a bunch of comments from people who are claiming a front only level is effecting tow capacity so why even make the video? Does anyone expect to lose tow capacity when they are retaining their rear factory set up? You sort of made it sound like there is this "myth" out there that this is the case when all I have ever read are people saying the Carli rear options reduce payload fairly dramatically, which is true. Anyway, I wish there was a way to keep the rear capacity AND get a softer ride but that isn't physically possible. Airbags can correct the sag but won't increase the payload. I'm going with a front level and bigger blocks in the rear and still adding airbags.
@@suburbanhobbyist2752 Believe it or not we get this question via email and phone EVERY DAY. For some reason people think that a leveling kit will impact towing and we wanted to correct that idea with this video.
5th wheels handle better than bumper tow. Now do a new one with a large bumper two camper, get on the freeway, and talk about what happens when semis pass you, not just head on in opposing lane, but on a multi-lane where they pass you going down hill. Report back.
This system maintains factory rear coils and capacity, with massive 2.5" custom tuned king shocks made so you can jump the truck. The increase in composure over a stock monotube shock is night and day.
I think those skid steers are over 9k by themselves. Not sure on the trailer weight but I’d expect a couple of tons for that too. Whoops, hadn’t got to that portion yet.
We couldn't put anything heavier behind the truck and stay legal! This load was exactly to the truck's max towing/ GVWR. Those skid steers and GN trailers are heavier than they look.
This is a Carli level system. All Carli and Thuren level systems retain the factory rear coils and as a result, the complete factory payload and towing specs.
If we were towing this multiple times a week we’d probably re-gear, but the owner of the truck is actually very happy with factory gears even towing his 5th wheel camper that comes in around 16k pounds.
@@CJCOffRoad Geezus - 90k miles? You guys just got it less than a year ago. I get it though. When you're not driving it, you're thinking about driving it.
Rears were set at 55psi for the towing portion of this video. Pressure is entirely dependent on your exact tire specs though, so make sure to consult the manufacturer load inflation table for your exact set up.

The Fords actually tow better since they use a leaf spring rear end. Capacity is higher than the Ram 2500s, and there's more airbag options for supplementation too.
Naysayers yeas and no. 1 that trucks ass is sagging, meaning it’s towing it but light on the front end and CVSE would pull that truck off the road in a heart beat up here. 2. 15000#. Isn’t really that heavy by today’s standards. There’s a place for a 3/4 ton and a place for a 1 ton and the naysayers like me tow more than what a 2500 is legal for. That being said, I’m sold on better, taller springs, not pucks and a more substantial track bar as well a steering box stabilizer and of course a shock upgrade. I will be calling you guys this fall for either a Carli or Thuren levelling system for my DRW 3500. ( front only, air bags in the back). I tow on the highway and or logging roads more often than off-road.
Any truck is going to squat at the maximum towing spec. You can't expect zero squat when towing at the absolute maximum specs of the truck! You have to be reasonable with your needs and do suspension accordingly. If you're looking to tow over 20k, then a 3500 with air bags is a must, and you'll probably want to retain the factory leaf springs. You can still get a solid ride quality improvement with a Carli 3500 level and actually improve towing comfort using high end, tuned shocks with more damping to control trailer feedback. The other option is doing a Carli Air assist system on a factory air assist truck. That's the only 3" system on the market that has full four corner springs, dramatically improves ride, and keeps factory towing and payload specs.
There's no mystery to uncover! The Carli level systems retain stock rear coils and just add better shocks, so you end up getting stock payload/towing specs with more damping control thanks to the shocks. The whole purpose of a level height system is retaining the factory rear springs, but controlling sway and ride more effectively.

Do you have a 2500 or 3500 Ram?
@@CJCOffRoad I have a 2020 F250 Tremor 6.7

Thank you!
How do these suspensions perform with a higher c of g load like a truck camper?
Very well, although for an overland style build we always recommend getting a leaf sprung Ram 3500 or Ford. The rear coil sprung Ram 2500s don’t make a good platform because of the low payload capacity.
Very well. I have Carli Pinetop leveling I kit and a 3300lb truck camper on a Ram 3500 dually. Night and day difference from stock ride. Obviously w 3300lbs in the bed there is some reverse rake, I level out with air bags and it has been a dream. Would do it again in a heart beat.
@@adamsaint-prix6632 Thanks Adam
Can I add airbags to a carli suspension to get my full towing capacity back?
Yes you can on the leaf sprung truck, but we don’t recommend using airbags on the coil rear end Ram 2500s.
@@CJCOffRoad why do you not recommend using bags on the coil sprung trucks?
@@CJCOffRoad why don’t you guys recommend bags on the coil spring trucks
Where did you guys go in Nevada?! It's beautiful!
Parts of that video is definitely Utah too!
The off road sections shown were filmed in Utah. Sadly we didn't take any video of the Nevada dirt trip!
You guys have kit for half tons, I got a tundra
Can you run the carli long travel airbag with a daystar cup? I have more than 12" rear travel on my 2006 ram and dont want to use the airbag as my "limit strap"
would you recommend airbags or timbren for 14" rear travel leaf springs.
On average 4 times a week I have my set of golf clubs in the back. 2019 2500 Cummins. It rides a tad harsh. What system do you recommend?
Definitely do a full 3” system on the truck. If it’s street driven only, the Commuter is great. If you want to hit the dirt, the back country and pintop are where it’s at!
Try Bilstein 4600 shocks. They are standard on the Power Wagon.
What trail is he talking about in minute 2:18
I'm interested in no soft ride front coils... But I bet you're not going to be snow plowing with those 🤔
I have a 2019 ram 2500 gasser. I almost hit the buy button on your level kit with fox tuned shocks until I noticed it was for diesel only. Do you have something like that for a gasser? I tow a 36’ travel trailer about 10 times a year. I’d like to run 35’s on it.
We do! It’s a off menu kit, but send us an email and we’ll get you set up!
what about the 3.25 systems? how would they do in this situation? cheers CJC
Since those use a softer rear coil, we use these airbags to tow just like a stock truck: ruclips.net/video/A2k_oswlITo/видео.html
So how do you combat the gear ratio change in the wrong direction putting bigger tires on the truck? My RAM has the middle ratio giving me more towing capacity, tires over the stock size reverses this .
If you feel that you need a gear change, simply re-gear the truck!
Do you do any 3" lifts on old Ford I have a 2002 f250 7.3

Did this truck have air bags?
Are there more videos of this truck?

Is there something like this for a 2017 Ram 1500 4x2.i tow about 7 to 8k 6 days a week
R1’s or R2’s in the rear?
Tinted front windshield?
How about a 2019 250 with a rear full Carli spring pack - what about shifting with 37 on 6 speed transmission, will it still use the 6th gear?
The 2500 trucks have coil rear springs so you can’t run a full leaf pack. As for the trans, this truck is able to shift through all gears just fine, even with the load.
Love the videos, do you ever have people a little more conservative with maybe a 35 tire with these setups?
Lots! Check out our Instagram page for examples.
I think 35’s are the best compromise if you tow heavy with the carli leveling kit
Michael Liechty yeah I’m thinking level or the lift down the road, I just don’t see a need for more than 35’s
CJC Off Road thanks, I’ll add y’all to my IG
With 37's(or38's) do you recomend ordering the truck with the optional 4.10 gears or does the 3.73'swork fine?
Either one works, but for towing heavy on 37s 4.10 is preferable.
If you're running a ram w/ 68RFE i would do 4.30,. 4.10 puts you -5% under stock, 4.30 puts you 15% over stock with 37s. My mid-life 35" with 4.30 im at 1900 rpm@ 70mph
Do you make suspension for ram 5500 for heavy hotshot hauling
We do not unfortunately.
From the way it didnt sag , I'm sure it had airbags on it , right?
This truck is using Timbrens, but keep in mind those are the factory rear coils with a level system, so it would be the same result as if the truck was completely factory. Timbrens can also be used on the 3” systems.
@@CJCOffRoad Ok , Thanks. I have the same truck , completely stock 2018 , so I'm really liking your channel.

I would recommend re gearing to 4:10
Definitely would not pull that much load (w/35 or 37) without a re-gear
This truck has 3.42 gears and is not re-geared. For what you're describing though we'd recommend re-gearing to 4.10s.
ran 3.42 on mine for years w/ 35" towing a 40ft 17k toyhauler. sucks in the hills, but fine in the flats.
You know the truck squats in the back before you add the leveling kit right?
Beautiful, #1 all the way....
Will the front springs handle a snowplow?
We’d recommend sticking with the factory springs if you’re driving around with a plow for months at a time.
How wide are the wheels and what is the offset?
These are 17x8.5 wheels with 5.5” backspace.
Geez, put your purse down and find some mountains already! You must be 'overlanders' 😂😂
What’s the lift called? For the truck that’s towing ?
That truck is on the Carli Pintop 2.5” level.
What psi do you guys run when towing at max capacity on 37s?
That all depends on the tire and the max pressure/load rating of that exact tire.
@@CJCOffRoad well say on the setup in the video. Did you guys max out the psi on the tire?
Only if it's required for the given load. That wasn't super heavy on pin weight since it's a gooseneck, so no.
Pretty cool but a skid steer isn't alot of weight IMHO. Still you Carli is the best suspension . If you want the best you've got to pay for the best
So this pickup didn't have rear Carli springs?
This is a Carli level system. All Carli and Thuren level systems retain the factory rear coils and as a result, the complete factory payload and towing specs.
What gear ratio is in that truck and is it stock engine power wise ?
Stock powertrain with factory 3.42 gears.
@@CJCOffRoad how does it pull with 37s that load is 16k at least
If we were towing this multiple times a week we’d probably re-gear, but the owner of the truck is actually very happy with factory gears even towing his 5th wheel camper that comes in around 16k pounds.
With or without rear springs?
Just shocks
Do you guys do tundra?
😂
😂
🤣
I believe they only sell lifts for trucks
Cropgun 😂
Have you ever had a customer that hauls a truck camper in the bed of their truck with these suspensions?
Absolutely! We typically recommend the 3500 Rams for that though.
Was this truck re geared?
Nope! Factory 3.42s with almost 90k miles daily driving, towing and going off road on 37s!
@@CJCOffRoad Geezus - 90k miles? You guys just got it less than a year ago. I get it though. When you're not driving it, you're thinking about driving it.

How about a Ford towing video?
The Fords actually tow better since they use a leaf spring rear end. Capacity is higher than the Ram 2500s, and there's more airbag options for supplementation too.
Did I miss the part of what gear ratio you are running?
This truck is on factory 3.42 gears.
CJC Off Road 3.42? Is that a new ratio they offer I thought it was 3.73 or 4.10 Thanks great video I will be calling as soon as I get my new Ram
No, it was a common ratio for the 14-18 2500 trucks. 3.73 and 4.10 are going to be the preferred ratios especially for 37s!
You definitely BUSTED the naysayer's asses with this one! : )
The chain boomer you used is illegal!
That poor 68rfe w this 37s
Over 100k miles on this setup without issue!
Is that truck regeared?
It actually isn’t! The owner kept it on the factory 3.42 gears.
Can I barrow 13,000 to upgrade my 2022 Ford F-350 so it can be the best 🤣
Cool, but I want to see you tow at capacity with a fifth wheel on a windy day, then we'll see
There's no mystery to uncover! The Carli level systems retain stock rear coils and just add better shocks, so you end up getting stock payload/towing specs with more damping control thanks to the shocks. The whole purpose of a level height system is retaining the factory rear springs, but controlling sway and ride more effectively.
@@CJCOffRoad awesome, thank you!
